Final Cut software free trial that is compatible with older macs?

Is there any way to get a free trial of an older version of Final Cut Pro...one that is compatible with an osx 10.6.8?

No.
The only free trial is the current version FCP X 10.1.1.
You need a late model Mac and Mavericks OS.
You best bet is to hunt around for a used version of Final Cut Express or Final Cut Studio depending on budget.

I recently installed older version of Imovie and final cut pro free trial now imovie 11 wont open what do I do?

Do you mean that the old version of iMovie (which version?) worked until you installed the FCP trial?
Note that you can only transfer projects from the latest version of iMovie (10) to FCP 10.1

If you upgraded to Snow Leopard, then it would seem that Suitcase 11 is not compatible with Snow Leopard and you'd need to buy Suitcase Fusion 3 for $99.95.

  • Looking for a GREAT mini DVD Camcorder that is compatible with my MAC! :-)

Ok. Here it is: I have a Sony DCR-TRV350 Camcorder, which I LOVE. However, the DVI port on the camera is screwed up. I bought a new DVI firewire, alas, to no avail. I cannot get the information from the camera to my Mac. So, making my fun, goofy movies is being inhibited by a fix, that will cost nearly as much as a new camera. I am looking for a new camera, that takes advantage of the firewire port on the Mac. Any suggestions? I would prefer a Sony. I am looking for advice from someone who knows, better then I, (that should be easy) of a good camcorder (miniDVD?) that works well with a Mac. I just want to have fun, bringing in footage to iMovie HD, editing, and posting them to Metacafe. Any and all input is, of course greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!

"..I wish Apple would tell me "why" a standard MiniDVD camcorder would not be compatible with I-Movie, because I can not think of a single logical reason.."
iMovie was designed to work with "DV" digital camcorders. These were, and are, camcorders which record video in a particular method onto DV, or miniDV, tape. iMovie wasn't designed to import or edit analogue 8mm or Hi-8 recordings, so it won't. iMovie can't handle an incoming analogue (non-digital) signal. (..But if you put one of those 8mm or Hi-8 analogue tapes in a Digital-8 camcorder such as the Sony DCR-TRV350, mentioned in the very first post, above, you can then import it as a digital signal through the camcorder's FireWire connection..)
Various other digital recording methods came and went, and Apple have supported some, but not others: there was the short-lived Sony "microMV" tape format which Apple didn't support, although you can handle that with MPEG Streamclip. Then there was HDV, which Apple does support ..but they did that by creating an Apple Intermediate Codec, into which the MPEG-2 video format of HDV tape gets converted during import.
Then there were various MPEG-2 DVD video formats, and the various movie formats used by solid-state memory-chip camcorders. Now there's AVCHD format, for memory chips, hard drives and DVDs.
These methods of recording video just keep multiplying - because the camcorder manufacturers want to offer "Look! Ours-does-it-better!" claims. But just because they produce a camcorder which records video, that doesn't mean that Apple (which doesn't make camcorders) has to provide a means to edit all these weird formats which keep springing up. Surely, the camcorder manufacturers should be providing Mac-compatible, or iMovie-compatible, editing methods for their devices, shouldn't they?
As Thomas mentions, there's a list of some compatible camcorders (see above) ..but that's a list of camcorders which are compatible with the latest iMovie '08 (..which can deal with some DVD camcorders, but not those which record DVDs in AVCHD format..) and AVCHD format can be handled only by Intel-based Macs, anyway.
So for an MPEG-2-based mini-DVD camcorder and iMovie HD 6, copy the files into your Mac, and then use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to iMovie HD 6 compatibility.
For iMovie '08, some miniDVD camcorders are compatible (those using MPEG-2 recording). For DVD camcorders using AVCHD recording, you may have to copy the recordings onto your Mac, and then download and use "Voltaic" to convert the recordings into iMovie-editable format.
"..I can not think of a single logical reason.." ..the reason is that manufacturers just want you to buy these cameras. But they don't give a hoot that you can't edit the material they record, and so it's left to Apple, and other software developers, to try to devise some way to "unravel" the compressed recordings for you, and make them editable.

  • Looking for a sports video camera that is compatible with the mac

Looking for a video camera that can record sports well and is also compatible with the mac. I've been using iMovie to edit videos for a highlight reel of my highschool soccer games that I coach.

I like Sony HD MiniDV (HDV) Handycam Camcorder - HDRFX1000, but I have also used several older Sony (DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70) and Canon (VIXIA HV20, VIXIA HV30, and VIXIA HV40) tape-based Firewire-equipped camcorders with good results.
I prefer tape-based Firewire-equipped cameras because of their IEEE 1394 transfer speed, compatibility with iMovie HD, and ability to serve as the source recording directly into iMovie when desired.  If none of these characteristics is important to you, other Mac-compatible camcorders with suitable zoom ranges and lens speeds for the light levels you encounter should also do nicely for recording at your games.
You do not say which iMovie version you are using, but you can find about known compatible camcorders by searching for the info in a search like this one.

  • RE: Best camcorder that is compatible with a MAC

I just bought A Sony DCR-DVD 505 so I could download video's. It is one of the few that is not compatible with a MAC. Anybody know what camcorder would be best with MAC compatiblity and easy???

This can be an issue but not always so. I've capture using a cheapo Canon camcorder, numerous XL1's, XM1/2's and, yes I've occasionally had a problem but only in a small %age of occasions - but, hey, I may just have been lucky.
Yes it's worth bearing in mind, but I wouldn't eliminate Canon's solely on this basis. As a camera operator, you may prefer the features of a Canon and you can always add a 2nd FW bus via PCI FW card, or attach an external esata drive via esata card, although be sure to get ones which match your computer, there's differences between the earlier single and later dual core G5 Powermacs for example.
Of course, you could always get a cheap non-Canon camcorder to capture with or a dedicated deck, if the budget will stretch to this.
Another consideration is that using a camcorder (or deck) to capture with slows the rate of data capture (correct term??) to, I think 100MBPS, so if you have this connected to the same FW bus as the external FWHD, everything slows down to that speed, which can cause problems such as dropped frames.
A 2nd FW bus enables you to keep the camera/deck attatched to a separate bus and the FWHD to operate at almost 400MBPS (Or 800, if using FW800 connectivity).
You could also capture to an additional internal esata drive.

  • Final Cut Express  HD 3.0- NOT compatible with intel I Mac ????

I just bought a new I MAC running 10.5.2 and for some reason when I try to load Final Cut XPRESS HD 3.0, it loads just fine but when i try to launch, an error window pops up stating this software requires certain hardware or software which is missing. * AGP GRAPHICS CARD. And then proceeds to NOT launch the program.
Hmmm??? My graphics card is: ATI RADEON HD 2600 PRO. I had the first IMAC 20"(white body) and loaded the same program on that machine. It worked great.
I will be bummed if this intel thang is what is cutting my feet out from under me.
    Thanks for any help.

It's on the forum like every other day. Press the escape key to bypass the message. You're using non-Intel software on an Intel machine.

  • I need a new license of final cut. Can I buy Final Cut X and use that serial on an older version of Final Cut?

I work in a small studio and we hired a new editor. We are staying on an older version of Final Cut Studio and need a new license/serial so we can run it on the new machine without having the 'protection error' over the network.
We CANNOT upgrade all of the machines at this time - we are in the middle of a few projects and need to keep the workflow going smoothly.
If we purchase the newest version of Final Cut Studio can we use the license on our old product and wait to install the new one until we can upgrade all of the machines at the same time? we're still on studio 6.
    Thank you!

    >If we purchase the newest version of Final Cut Studio
The newest version of Final Cut Studio was FCS 3 (aka FCS 2009) which contained FCP 7.  It has been discontinued by Apple and recalled from retailers.  If you can still find a legitimate copy to purchase, you can only use the serial number for that version.  Serial numbers from other versions will not work.

  • Is there other software like Java that is compatible with firefox 9.01?

I use QuickBooks Online for my work as a bookkeeper. From the Pay One Vendor/Bill Payment screen I type in a vendor name then hit tab. Normally after hitting tab, all of the vendor's open invoices will automatically load onto the screen. But on Tuesday, Firefox automatically updated. I hit tab and nothing happens. I updated my plugins but Java said that its not compatible with the new version of Firefox. What do I do? Or is it something else that needs to be fixed? Please help. Thanks!

Thanks! The procedure worked great for me (using iTunes 10), however there was one caveat. I also had to edit “AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi” with Orca and change the entry in “LaunchCondition” from
    VersionNT64>=600
    to
    VersionNT64>=501
in order for the Device Manager driver update procedure to work, and iTunes to recognize my iPhone4. Prior to doing this, only “digital still camera” was displayed in the “imaging” entry in Device Manger. Once I did the above, “Apple Mobile Device USB Driver” was listed, and the procedure worked as written.

  • Where do I find and download the old version of Firefox that is compatible with my MAC Power PC G5, please?

Refer to Question 877611 for the full history of '''why''' I'm looking for the old version. Suffice it to say - I need to download the old Power PC version. You must have a copy of it somewhere for us dinosaurs who haven't succumbed to Intel. I was using 3.6.16. It worked fine. I want it back, please. Thank you.

-> Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac.
    * Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/6.0.2/system-requirements/
-> IF you want to keep using Firefox 3.6.x, it can be found here:

-> For an unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:
