Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP 6) on MacBook 1.83 Core 2 Duo

One (probably very stupid) question:
Will the just announced Final Cut Studio 2 (and especially Final Cut Pro 6) run on my (pretty darn new) MacBook Core 2 Duo (1.83 Ghz White)?
And which of its applications just won't run on it? I will be upgrading my MacBook's RAM to 2 GB in the next few days.
Thanks!

On Apple's FCS2 site, it says:
"Minimum Requirements to Install All Final Cut Studio Applications
A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor
1GB of RAM
An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later
QuickTime 7.1.6 or later
A DVD drive for installation"
Well, the MacBook seems to have all of these... or does it? What's the graphics card on my MacBook? From looking at my specs, I fear that its graphics are powered by the "Intel GMA 950" (internal) processor.
So no FCP6 on here for sure, right?

  • Is it possible to install Final Cut Studio 2 with a MacBook 2.1 GHz 13.3in?

I just purchased a new MacBook and Final Cut Studio, but my computer won't let me install FCP 6. I think it is a graphics card problem. Is there something I can purchase or download to make it compatible, or do I need to replace computer or use an older version of FCP?
    Thanks
    Tara

    Hi Tara,
    welcome to the forums,
I beleive your MacBook comes with an integrated graphics processor.
Unfortunately FCP requires a separate graphics card see minimum specs in the link below:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html
Perhaps you can replace your MB with a MBPro as the latter is perfect for FCP6.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and New Macbooks with Nvidia graphics

Do the new Macbooks announced today (10/14/2008) meet the minimum system requirements for running Final Cut Studio 2?

Lecturing? Really? Not hardly, but I'll answer your query as succinctly as possible.
Will the new Macbook run Final Cut Studio 2? I will wager that FCP will operate, DVD SP will operate and Soundtrack Pro will operate. I highly doubt Color will operate and am not sure about Motion due to the graphics card.
That should answer your question. To "lecture" some more, where will you have media stored and how will you get media, any sort of media into these applications?
As far as graphics and video are concerned, that distinction has been met above. I'm sure the Macbook will operate Photoshop with no problem.
But again, why not check the minimum tech specs for yourself?

  • Problems installing Final Cut Studio on my new Macbook Pro

I just got my new 17 inch Macbook Pro, and am trying to install Final Cut Studio 3.  It installed just fine, and accepted the serial number.  The problem is that every time I open the application, I have to reenter the serial number.  Once I do that, it runs fine, but the next time, I have to reenter the info again.  Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
    Rob Krampf

do some searching here.  I remember other people having this problem.  You might also try repairing permissions on your startup drive, deleting your fcp preferences

And creating a new account in system preferences:  accounts.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 on a MacBook

    Hi!
I am thinking about getting a MacBook and want to know if FinalCut Studio 2 will run on it. I know its not recommended but will it run on a MacBook 2.2GHz with Leopard?
If not can I export movies I work on at a mac lab in Final Cut Studio to Final Cut Express?
    Thanks,
    Brian

I ran Final Cut Pro on a powerbook G4, no probs, and I cannot se how a newer machine should not be able to do the same.
I don't think that the entire suite wil run, but FCP will I am sure.
    Anyway found this:

These are rendering benchmarks, and I'm sure that with 5 video tracks, and 6 audio tracks you don't just drag 10 minutes of video 50 frames without it lacking a bit on the screen.

  • Final Cut Studio - Install on Two Macbook Pros?

I just purchased the academic version of Final Cut Studio. I have been reading the forums and have discovered that it is possible to install this on one desktop and one laptop, and both work as long as you are not working on them at the same time.
However, I have not been able to find if it is possible to install Final Cut Studio on two Macbook Pros. Does it have to be one desktop and one laptop or is it limited to two installations total? The license agreement says one desktop and one laptop, however how would it know if it were two laptops?
    Thank you for your feedback.

Used by you doesn't mean used by someone else that doesn't own the computer
I'm an editor. Been one for several years. Any company I've worked for and edited with FCP has been on the company's computer and software, not owned by me. Are you saying that an editor for a company is expected to purchase their own computer and software in order to edit for a cooperation? Unlikely. A freelance or independent editor may have their own system that they edit on, but I am talking about an editor as an employee at a cooperation (where personal computers are restricted) or Macs and software that are available at an educational institution like an Apple Authorized Training Center.
I went to Apple Campus as a requirement of becoming ACT and "used" Final Cut pro on a computer that was not owned by me. Several others have done this and will continue to do so because it's a loophole that is apparently intended in the SLA for these reasons. Unless you're saying that Apple is breaking their own SLA agreement and advising others to do so in their training facility requirements which states:
    The AATC is responsible for:
    • Providing all hardware and software described in this document
The definition of the word "used" in this circumstance begs further clarification. Until that happens one can assume that the ordinary circumstance of its meaning for this situation is open to various interpretations.
OK so let's say I agree with your comment even if I don't. It still doesn't mean that if I owned a laptop and desktop that I can't use both at the same time according to the SLA. Only that they can't both be used at the same time over a network. So If I was encoding or rendering video on my desktop I could still use the laptop to edit at the same time.

  • Final Cut Studio & Motion on new Macbook

I read some reports that people couldn't install/run FCS and especially Motion on their Macbook.
I just got my new core duo 2, 2Gz, 2Gb ram model and installed the universal upgrade without any problem, nothing special needed doing at all.
And motion seems to work ok (just tried loading some templates and they worked fine) although I'm sure it would get chuggy with more complicated sequences. I saw 17 fps when one of them was running in the preview window. Good enough for me to learn it.
And FCP works much nicer than on my 1Ghz G4 Powerbook, but I noticed the waveform still takes a while to draw (perhaps that is always going to happen). The screen is high res enough for the FCP layout to look nice and not too tiny/squashed.
I haven't used any of them that much so I will report more when I have put them through their paces.
Anyone else got any experiences to share ?
    Macbook2 2Ghz 2Gb   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Yeah, this update is bizarre.
Plus, I was really hoping the new machines would have ATI cards in them since Motion has been crap with the NVIDIA ones. Also, what the heck is up with the glossy only screen?
So much for pro I was really excited for the possibilities of these notebooks too.

  • How does Final Cut Studio run on a MacBook ?

Anyone installed it, and able to give comments & performance comparisons ?

Then no PC card addition 800 FW port or additional port ever... Nevertheless, you could still do DV and lower data rate stuff, however RT will be limited by FW 400, and you'll have to be careful about looping FW 400 devices. Use a known FW drive that loops your camera/deck's FW imput without a hitch. There's several out there that will not do this well. Look at Weibetech, Granite Digital or G-Tech drives, I know they work OK looping DV signals thru them.
I think I'd want a MacBook Pro for FCP myself, at least it's certainly worth the difference in price from the new MacBook...

  • How's Final Cut Studio on a stock MacBook Pro?

    say the 15"er.
anyone doing it? ok, or just FCP?

unless you're rich and can afford the 17 the 15 is great. I love mine, like a son. Some one should kick Unsanity and get them to make all their appz universal, i had to uninstall shapeshifter to use CS2 etc. But yea, it is so flipin powerful, went to throw the feature i am cutting into idvd for a quick screener and BOOM it riped through it on best quality (i usually leave it on over night, it took maybe and hour or so.)

  • Final Cut Studio 2 on new MacBook Pro 15"

Is this configuration enough to run FCS2 on one of the new (June 2009) MacBook Pro 15"?
    -2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    -8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    -500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    -SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
-MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
If so, do I need the 8GB RAM or could I stick with the new standard of 4GB? I don't plan on working with HDV too much, but I may need to edit a few clips of it. Other than that, everything will be standard DV or miniDV.
    Thanks.

Yes, these specs will satisfy FCS2, with some exceptions (notably, Color requires a 17" screen). Here is the full list of requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
8GB is way overkill for HDV (it's moot at present anyways, as FCP can only utilize 4GB), and WAY overkill for DV.
500GB is enough HD space, but you'll get better performance and reliability with an external HD rather than working with media on your system drive.

  • Final Cut Studio compatible with new Macbooks Nvidia 9400 chip?

    Hi!
First post here. I plan on finally getting what I always needed; a Mac. But MBPs
are a little too expensive for my wallet. I read in the FCS specs that it is not compatible with integrated Intel graphic processors, but I wonder if it applies to newer MB graphics (Nvidia 9400)? Anybody here uses it on their MBs? Does it runs flawlessly?
    Thank you

Can't expand the capabilities of a MBP? That's just plain wrong, Nick. Sure the options are limited, but they do exist. First: firewire - buy an adapter so you can use FW400 devices on your FW800 connection. Second: If your capture device is FW400, you can capture to USB2 with some success. I agree that you don't want to use USB2 for editing, though. Your best bet for capture drive is estata, which you can adapt. You have to buy an esata card for the slot.
Or you could buy one of the new flashy Mac Pros that just came out today. That's probably what I'm going to do. You have more options for expansion than you will with a MBP. If you are going with a MBP, put in a little extra for the 7200rpm drive!

  • Problem installing Final Cut Studio 2 on MacBook Pro

I'm trying to install Final Cut Studio 2 on a MacBook Pro / Snow Leopard but when it comes to choosing install options Final Cut Pro is greyed out and just says skip.
I've done some research and found people with the same problem but none of the fixes I've seen have worked. I also have Logic Pro installed - which I installed first - which seems to be causing the problem. I've tried removing Logic but am still seeing the same problem.
Besides a clean install does anyone have any suggestions?

Read this article on how to install final cut pro after logic studio.

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • Final Cut Studio Install troubles

    Hi,
I am just trying to install my Final Cut Studio on my new MacBook Pro but the installation program is stuck with the last minute of the first FCP St. installation DVD on :
    -Running Packages scripts...
-Install time remaining : about a minute
Any idea what should i do ?? should I delete all related files including in the Library etc.. and if I have to do this, how ?
    Thanks

Ran into same problems. Tried many things. Finally removed Apperture because with FCS Remover, it says not to do a complete uninstall if you have other Pro software on your computer. (This is a new computer and I didn't have any pics in Apperture yet). After removing Apperture, I removed ALL of FCP with FCP remover. Then I installed ONLY Final Cut. Yeah! It installed. So I got brave and installed only Motion. It worked fine as well. Then I got greedy and tried to install Live Type. Got hung up again on the "running package scripts". Ugh. Out of time. I really wanted these three applications at least. I'm bummed that I can only get two of them.
