Final Cut Studio 2...Full version or just Academic?

Good Evening:
Someone is selling to me a final cut studio 2.0. I Want to know how is this version is full or academic : Sticker at base says: MA886Z/A Final Cut Studio 2.0.1 RETAIL ......There is no indication on box.

If it says RETAIL, it isn't the academic version (unless someone replaced the sticker).

Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade version and Lion

I was all set to buy a new Macbook Pro, and I know Final Cut Studio 3 will run on Lion, but I've just realised that my version of Studio is an upgrade from 2. Since Studio 2 doesnt seem compatible with Lion am I at a dead end here in trying to get FCP 7 etc onto a new machine? Can I install it without installing Studio 2 first?

You just do the install for studio 3. Or am I missing something? It will ask you for both the serial numbers of fcp studio 2 and 3. But you will have to install rosetta from a snowleopard install disk to run the installer.

Final Cut Studio 7 full suite -- Cheapest priced new computer that works?

I purchased the full retail FCS 7 suite along with Logic 9 Pro.
My shoots are basic music video's and shorts shot with Canon consumer level amateur camcorders, mini dv and hard drive in both standard and HD, Elura 100, Optura 50, HV20.
I can shoot and record everything in standard definition if I need too.
I just want to learn how to run this software in a real time editing situation, and finished product situation that works.
Simple stuff.
Which is the minimum computer that will function realistically and efficiently in all suites please.
I have the learning books and DVD's.
I just want to learn efficiently.

Would this do it effectively.

Final Cut Studio Academic Upgrade to FCS 2??

So, I just recently bought the Final Cut Studio 5.1 set, but seeing as how I'm a broke college kid, I bought the academic. Can I still upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2? Do I just buy the 499 upgrade? Just a little curious. Thanks in advance

Sadly you cannot. However, if you are a college student, you can always acquire the full academic FCS2 for the academic price. If you check the Apple website (store) it's quite clear on these issues, both when you buy and when you try to upgrade.
It's actually less expensive in the long term to buy a full version and then upgrade. That is, if you're planning on staying with the FCS ship for some time.

Final Cut Studio 2 Upgrade

I've got an old version of FCP and I've just purchased the upgrade to FCS 2.
My question is, when the next version of FCS (FCS 3?) comes out, what upgrade would I be entitled to now that I've went from FCP to FCS 2? Would I need to purchase an upgrade for FCP again, or would I be considered a FCS 2 user at that point?
If the pricing for the next FCS is how it is now, there is a significant pricing difference when purchasing an upgrade from FCP or FCS 1. Thanks.

Can't say what is going to happen since it hasn't happened yet but judging from the past when you upgrade to a new version of Final Cut the upgrade is equivalent to the full version. Meaning if there is an upgrade option you may use your newest version to upgrade to next version. When you upgrade you are upgrading from a full version so you still need the full version disk and serial number. Hypothetical scenario would be you purchased Final Cut Pro 4 full version then upgraded from that to Final Cut Studio 1. If you wanted to upgrade to FCS@ you can upgrade with the option of Final Cut Studio 1 to FCS2 instead of the option for Final Cut Pro 4 to FCS2. When you instal FCS2 you would need full version Final Cut Pro 4 serial number and FCS1 serial then FCS2 upgrade serial. This is a hypothetical situation and can be assumed for future versions although unconfirmed for reasons previously stated; namely that there is no Final cut Studio 3 available so no one can say for sure.

Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade from FCS 2

What is the main difference between the Final Cut Studio 3 Upgrade version and the full retail version? I already have FCS 2 installed with all content but wonder if there's anything missing from the upgrade version compared to the full installation. Is it just the applications that are updated or is there any new content that I'll be missing with the upgrade?

And why would you trust us? We don't work for Apple and it is unlikely one of us will purchase both versions - so how would we know?
When in doubt, throw money in the general direction of uncertainty. It won't be a better solution but you'll feel that you've done everything possible to acquire the best solution. You'll also have the benefit if being able to sell your old FCS version on ebay because you won't need its serial number as a basis for the upgrade.

Am I eligible for $299 Final Cut Studio Upgrade?

I own the following versions of Final Cut Pro. Some of them are very old.
Final Cut Pro 1.2 (Academic)
Final Cut Pro 3.0 (Academic)
Final Cut Pro 4 (Non-Academic, Upgrade version)
Will my ownership of any of these versions qualify me for the new $299 Final Cut Studio upgrade? And how does the upgrade work, does one just input their serial number from a previous version (I ask because none of my owned versions are currently installed)?

Not quite sure how your FCP4 upgrade works as the previous academic versions were not upgradable.
The Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade version requires a non academic, full retail (non-upgrade) FCP serial number as the basis for upgrading.
However, when in doubt about this, best to have a conversation with Apple directly as they are the ultimate authority on whether this will work or not.

Slow Rendering Time After Installing Final Cut Studio 2 Upgrade

I have a Mac Pro with two dual core processors, 8 GB of Ram, and 1 Terabyte of storage. I'm running the latest version of OSX. Ever since I upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2 my rendering time in Final Cut Pro 6 has become painfully slow. For example, it now takes at least an hour to render a short 5 minute video project. A project that size used to take just a few minutes. I uninstalled Final Cut Studio using AppZapper because I couldn't figure out how to remove the program any other way. Then, I reinstalled Final Cut Pro 6, but it didn't fix the problem. I called Apple's Final Cut Studio tech support, but they just had me upgrade Final Cut Pro 6 to 6.0.1. Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem. Everything worked fine with Final Cut Pro 5, but ever since we upgraded everything has fell apart. Can anyone give us any insight into fixing this problem? So far, Apple's Final Cut tech support has been unable to find a solution.

Just a couple things to double check.
1. Repair Disk permissions, RESTART.
2. Try setting your RENDER DRIVE to something Different than the Media drive, RESTART.
3. Try Hosting your Media on a new Drive, RESTART.
Also, at this point since you are having system problems, I would backup all of your Media, Projects, etc. I just read a post of someone else that didn't have backup of their project and it became corrupted. I use Lacies SilverKeeper to automatically backup about 20 times a day, so we have dupes of at least all our Projects. And the first thing I do every morning is start the system up, repair disk permissions, and RESTART.
The reason why I suggest restarting after each attempt at changing preferences and such is so that the next time you load FCP it loads the settings that you have saved/changed as native settings as opposed to changed settings, this does make a difference. You will know what I am talking about if you have experienced the Log & Capture Input problem for FCP 5.
Let me know, I have some other suggestions if these don't work.

ive been looking around to buy final cut studio 3 for weeks now with no success and i think ive found a solution i'm just wondering if it will work by buying final cut studio 2 full and then buying final cut studio 3 upgrade overall will everything be final cut studio 3?

You can still get the FCS3 upgrades from the apple shop
No you can not get FCS upgrades from Apple retail stores or Apple dealers, they have been recalled by Apple.
Only places that will stock is independant retailers and online used software vendors.
Apple have clearly stated that FCS is now ''end of life''

Transcoding 720p50 for SD PAL Broadcast using Final Cut Studio v2

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I shot some 720p50 footage on a Sony EX3 to send over to a customer for use in a SD broadcast programme (PAL 16:9). I'm struggling to get it looking clean in compressor (no small jagged edges).
So far I've put the footage straight into compressor and tried exporting it as:

I am looking at it on my desktop (Apple 30" Screen if that helps?). I have high quality playback enabled on QT and I'm using 100% in the canvas window on FCP.
I'm afraid I can't access an interlaced play out monitor today. I can tomorrow but would like to send the stuff asap. Is there any other way of checking the quality just using the desktop?

Help with Installing Soundtrack 3 alongside Final Cut Studio 2

Hi All,
I am looking for advice on how to install Soundtrack Pro 3 which is part of my Logic Studio Upgrade. I have a Macbook Pro with Final Cut Studio 2 and Logic Studio. I just bought the upgrade to Logic Studio (and not Final Cut) as I mainly do audio work and rarely video editing any more.
The installation instructions say that Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor 3.5 have new components which are not compatible with my older Final Cut Studio 2 and will not be installed.
Is there a way to install Soundtrack Pro 3 as a standalone application in another part of my computer, like under a different user or in some way where I can open it independently from the Final Cut Studio 2 program? Or is upgrading Final Cut Studio 2 to version 3 my only option?

It's easy... just boot from your OS CD, and choose erase and install from the optional installs button once booted. Run Software update a few times until there is no more to update... This will erase the hard drive and install a new OS on it.
Install whatever.
To boot from this drive, hold down the option key during a startup , and you can pick it from the dialog box that opens. To reboot just select the other drive in the startup disk pref in Apple System prefs.

Final Cut Studio floating license.

Hi, I was wondering what kind of licensing Final Cut Studio comes with. I have a Macbook Pro, and am about to get a Mac Pro as well. At the moment I do not have FCS, but am about to buy a copy ... I was wondering whether I can install it on my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro and use one or the other depending on where I am. I will never need to use both at the same time (if I'm home its the MP, if I'm travelling its the MBP) so if I can carry a dongle from my Mac Pro to MBP it would be great.

That's correct, except that what you refer to as Final Cut Studio 5.0 was really just Final Cut Studio. Apple had not yet begun numbering the Studio. It contained Final Cut Pro 5.0, but the Studio didn't have a number, just a name.
Apple added permission to load FCS on a desktop AND a laptop for the first time with the SLA for FCS 5.1.
But in a confusing move, they have numbered the version that follows FCS 5.1 as FCS 2. Huh?
Regardless, it's the biggest upgrade in recent memory. Can hardly wait to receive it next week.

What can i do to get the install disk to work supplied with final cut studio??

and click on the install item nothing happens HELP!!!!!

Problems installing Final Cut Studio on my new Macbook Pro

I just got my new 17 inch Macbook Pro, and am trying to install Final Cut Studio 3. It installed just fine, and accepted the serial number. The problem is that every time I open the application, I have to reenter the serial number. Once I do that, it runs fine, but the next time, I have to reenter the info again. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

Snow leopard and Final Cut Studio 2.0

Snow leopard comes out tomorrow but will Final Cut Studio 2.0 work with it or will I have to upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3.0?

I just opened up a multiclip project in 10.6 (FCS2) that had been created in 10.5.8 (FCS2) and it seems to be working fine if not better. My multiclip playback had been a little choppy and now there isn't any noticeable choppiness.
Before I was using FW800 but my port died last week. Now I'm using USB 2.0 and its working better than the FW800. I suppose my multiclip playback could have been choppy before because the FW800 was on its way out. I guess there might be too many variables to assess any performance increase.
Bottom line is that there are no problems in 10.6 and FCS2. I can't wait to buy the new FCS (3)!
