Final Cut Studio 2: Import Problem

Hello all,
I am new to these discussion boards, but have been having some troubles with my FCS2 software. I just had my computer serviced by Apple and it came back reformatted. So I install all of my FCS2 programs etc. and it seems now that none of my import features work. I have tried in both color and FCP, I can drag and drop clips but when I go to File>import on either program it does nothing...
If anyone knows what I could do it would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Nothing what so ever, its as if I didnt even click it. Before I had my computer re-formatted it only did it in color. Now it has happened to FCP6 as well... It isnt too big due to the fact I can drag and drop but at the same time its a tediouc hassle to have to give into with such an advanced program.

  • Final Cut Studio 3 installation problem

Working on my Mac Pro 1,1 and I'm habing rouble re-installing Final Cut Studio 3 on it.
Here's the background:  I've hesiated updating the OS beyond 10.5 so that I could keep using a legacy copy of ProTools LE.  Recently, I decided to add a new hard drive to one of the open bays so that I could have a 10.7.5 startup disc for most applications, and I could simply rebppt in 10.5 when I need to.  everything went smootly until I tried to re-install FCS-3.
The installation keeps hanging up whenever I try to install any components that need content (i.e. DVD Studio Pro, Sound Track, etc...).  As a test, I did an install of just FCP (and default Compressor) and that seemed to be OK.  Once installed, I thought I'd try to add one compnent at a time - so I started with DVD Studio Pro.
Just as had happed when I tried to do a full install, it failed.  I got an error message that
"the installer encountered a problem and that I needed to contact the software manufacturer"
So far, I've tried with both DVD Studio Pro and Sound Track with the same result.  It seems to go through the entire process of copying over files on the content disc before it fails.  On the DVD-SP as soon as it ejects the one (and only) content disc, I get the error.  On SoundTrack, it seems to take all the data from disc 1 (of 3) then it askes for disc 2.  As soon as i put it in and it tries to read it, the the install fails and I get the same error as I listed above.
Anybody have am idea of what might be happening?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Have a look in disc utility and see how your drive is formatted.
It should be Mac OS extended.

  • Exporting scoring markers in Final Cut Studio and importing to Logic Pro

I want to export my scoring markers with the movie in Final Cut Studio and see them as markers in Logic Pro 7.2.x. I need to use the markers as "hit points" to calculate my tempos and effectively lay out my score based upon the action in the picture. I'm exporting the Final Cut Studio project to a Quicktime movie and choosing audio and video + "scoring markers". Thanks for your help.

Don't bother rendering a movie out of LiveType, simply save the project file and import it into FCP.
LiveType outputs in the Animation codec only, so you will always have to render. Using the project file has another advantage -right clicking and choosing "Open in Editor" will drop you back into LiveType where you can quickly make adjustments, save and return to FCP with the changes in place.
To set project properties, you can use the Place Background Movie function in LiveType. Drop a short clip in and it will automatically adjust the properties to match. You can delete it once you have the settings. If you have Anamorphic video, you will still need to adjust the pixel aspect ratio -exact settings depend on the format, you haven't told us that yet.
Again, depending on the format, you might have to set the Anamorphic flag in FCP's Item Properties for the LiveType file.
When you view the FCP export in QuickTime Player 7 (not QuickTime Player X) make sure that the High Quality Playback preference is selected.
    Typefaces in video:
Avoid using small, thin, delicate and Serif typefaces. They never work well.
A well known example of a Serif font is Times, which you should avoid at all costs in any case -it makes it look like you made the titles in MS Word. Stick with San Serifs with clear, bold strokes. Helvetica is a popular example of a San Serif.
If your titles are white, reduce the brightness to around 90%. Apply a shadow or border to distinguish them from the background. While it might sound counter productive, applying a tiny amount of blur can help too.
One more thing: Don't put your email address in the body of your post. The forums are open to anyone who wants to read them and by extension, web bots. They will harvest the address and bombard it with spam. We don't do personal email on the forums anyway -we share information amongst all users.

  • Final cut studio 2 upgrade problems

i recently purchased the upgrade from final cut studio to final cut studio 2. after entering the upgrade serial number it prompts me for the original serial number. after entering this in, it says number invalid. both copies are store bought and i have tried every variation of the numbers, ie. upper case lower case. i've tried calling the store from which i bought the products but they keep referring me to my installation manual.. please help!!!

    There are two upgrade paths.
One from FCS1 and the other from individual applications.
    The latter is more expensive.
Which did you buy and from what original purchase? If you got the wrong one, it won't upgrade.

  • Final Cut Express File Import Problem

Can anybody help me? I am doing a class project with final cut express and I imported some songs in AIFF encoding into final cut to work with them…I finished the project but realized I made a huge mistake for class. When I imported the music files I did it from my flash drive directly, instead of copying them to my hard drive first. So when I try to open the project without the flash drive I get an error message saying missing files and then there is a reconnect, ok, and another button. This means it is searching for my flash drive for those source music files, plus the sound edits I made don’t load without them. If I copy those files from my flash to the hard drive how can I have the software locate the files in the new location? I can’t have this project loading from the flash or my professor can’t grade it after the semester….I hope I don’t have to delete my edits and start over….PLEASE HELP!!!!
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Copy the song files to a folder on your hard drive. Then disconnect the flash drive. Start FCE, open your project. When you get the Reconnect Media message, be sure to check "Select Files Manually" and then follow the dialog boxes to point to the files in the folder you just created. Once FCE reconnects to the song files, save your project and you should be fine.

  • Final Cut Studio install problems

Well I was thrilled to get Final Cut Studio 2, but cannot get the thing installed. Looking to do a 100% uninstall so I can start fresh
    I have the following disks:
    1. Final Cut Studio
    2. DVD Studio
    3. Livetype1
    4. Livetype2
    5. Motion
On my first install everything went as planned and it asked me for serial number. I made it thru the first disk with no problems, and the 2nd one installed for awhile, but suddenly stopped. A message popped up saying to put the Final Cut Studio disk back in. When I did that it failed. So I followed these steps:
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Pro back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
Remove receipts and reinstall Final Cut Pro
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Pro. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Final Cut Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
    Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the "FinalCutPro.pkg" file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Pro" to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.
I started a fresh install, but noticed it never asked me again for my serial number. I was skeptical, but the installation went on and I made it all the way to the last disk, but when I put the Motion disk in the computer seemed to struggle to read the disk and eventually asked for the FCP disk to be put back in which resulted in another error.
I have tried several times since then to get this thing installed but keep failing. I worry about how it never asks me for a serial number. Are there some files that I am not deleting?
I have also tried to install one disk at a time and installing without Content.
    Using a brand new Imac

Not sure if this is related but I've upgraded from FCS 1 to FCS 2 and all went well. I've now started to install all the various application media and Motion fails around 75% through the installation. I've tried to do a disk image of the disk but again that fails approx. 75% of the way through with the error "I/O error"
Tried the Soundtrack Pro media this morning and got through the first disk and again about 75% through disk 2 the installation failed.
Maybe Apple has bought a job lot of 'cheap' DVD's to save some money? I'll pop into an Apple store and see what they have to say!

  • Problems installing Final Cut Studio on my new Macbook Pro

I just got my new 17 inch Macbook Pro, and am trying to install Final Cut Studio 3.  It installed just fine, and accepted the serial number.  The problem is that every time I open the application, I have to reenter the serial number.  Once I do that, it runs fine, but the next time, I have to reenter the info again.  Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
    Rob Krampf

do some searching here.  I remember other people having this problem.  You might also try repairing permissions on your startup drive, deleting your fcp preferences

  • Problems exporting HD timeline in older Final Cut Studio HD

I've been working on an older version of Final Cut Studio HD. I had originally offlined the footage so I could edit it, and I finished onlining the footage with the original HD footage. The aspect ratio of the project and the footage is 1920 x 1080, and the codec of most of the footage and the timeline was set to H.264. The only problem is, now that it's onlined, it refused to render any of the transitions. It gives me some kind of codec error. I have also tried exporting the timeline as a Quicktime Movie, but it always fails at somepoint in the process. I have tried exporting Quicktime Conversion, and it failed too. The only way I was able to get it to output was to change the codec of the timeline and in Quicktime Conversion, but this provided a subpar quality file. I understand that I'm using and older version of Final Cut Pro on an older system, but I'm trying to find work arounds to this issue that will allow me to output a quality full HD file. Any help is appreciated.

    DVCPRO HD 1080i60
Choose it. Set your Field Dominance to None.
Gaaaah! That's what I get for trying to save myself some typing.
Now get on with it. Start editing

  • Help please importing mpeg files to be edited with Final Cut Studio

Hey everyone, new to the video editing thing. I have a JVC GY-HM100U Pro HD camcorder and a MacBook Pro 5,1 with 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB 1067 MHz DPR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & NVIDIA GeForce 9600MGT running OSX 10.5.8. Have recorded footage in mpeg4 and want to now edit using Final Cut Pro 7. Have downloaded Quicktime Pro and am still getting a "the movie could not be opened when trying to import the mp4 file. The movie contains some invalid data" window when trying to open the mpeg4 file. I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake if these help convert to another supported file format. Please help!

That camera is promoted on the JVC website as being Final Cut Pro compatible.
Have you tried to import the clips via Log & Transfer?
You might also want to read up on the [workflow for that type of camera|http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandwork flows/#chapter=6%26section=0].
    Have downloaded Quicktime Pro....
QuickTime Pro is installed automaticallly with Final Cut Studio. No need to buy it again.
I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake...
That software is all pretty much useless for working with Final Cut Studio.
MPEG Streamclip is free and much better.

  • Problem Installing Final Cut Studio

I am trying to load Final Cut Studio on my Mac Pro Tower and it told me that i need to have an Intel processor. How do I fix this problem?

Understand that running the final cut apps on a g5 is not supported. The PPC architecture of the G5 is quite different than that of an intel machine.

  • I'm having problems registering Final Cut Studio

I recently purchased and installed Final Cut Studio. I successfully installed it, except there was a message at the beginning of the process saying there was some sort of registration problem. I don't know exactly what the message was and can't replicate it now. the program did complete the install process but when I try to open individual application I am prompted to enter a registration again. I tried entering the number that registers the whole suite but that didn't work.

I am afraid to do this because my hard drive is almost full. this brings up another question. I wanted to do a custom install and put what ever I could on another ATI drive in my computer but somehow that custom install thing seemed to fly right by without giving me an oppourtunity to do anything. What will happen if I reinstall? Will it install all the content again? I only have 9GB left on that hard drive. I was going to try to move all that once I was able to open the apps. How can I just uninstalll everything and just start over?
