Final Cut Studio 2 Licensing

Quick question that someone may know the answer to. I just recently purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and i am waiting for it to arrive. My question is, does Final Cut Studio 2 allow me to install it on both my Mac Pro and my PowerBook laptop? Or is it just a single license to one computer? If it does allow me to, can I be running it on both machines at the same time or are there restrictions to this?
Any info would be great. Thanks in advance!

I meant to write FCS2, not FCP2 in my reply above. Didn't catch that until it was too late to make the edit.
Just out of curiosity, I pulled out the FCS1 SLA, and it has the same wording about one desktop and one laptop. But then a couple of sentences later it says the license does not allow the software "...to exist on more than one computer at a time..." This sentence is not in the FCS2 SLA. I guess this is the one that's interpreted as meaning FCS1 cannot be used on two Macs owned by the same person at the same time.

Final Cut Studio license invalid after upgrading to Leopard?

Hello,
After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.1, Final Cut Studio v5.1.4 and its companion apps like DVD Studio 4 do not recognize my FC Studio License as valid. I input the license key and it says:
"Licensing Error
This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I am a licensed user via the FC Studio Crossgrade since 2006 and all has been fine with Tiger before Leopard.
I have used Disk Utility to "repair permissions". I have removed the FC files from the Preferences folder to give it a clean start.
PERHAPS A HINT?:
So I tried to re-install FC Studio 5.1 from the FC Install DVD and I get this message after inputting the key:
"Alert
Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I have Administrator privileges on this account and I even tried to install it as 'root' and the same error occurs.
Is there a file that I need to change permissions on?

Hi,
Unfortunately there is also an issue with installing FCS2 on a brand new installation with Leopard and this licensing error.
"Alert Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
This also occurs, apparently, that if you are logged in with an Active Directory user with Admin privileges it still will not let you install the product keys.
This is much the same as a problem with Adobe CS3 products, only the updates work when you are logged in with a local admin - not an Active Directory Admin.
Both these problems are really really annoying for those on corporate networks - such as myself.
For my problem, I had to log out as my AD account, login as a local admin and then install the software. .

Anyone know how to change the license key for Final Cut Studio HD v5. I just bought additional copies and need to update some installs with the new license keys.

License info is stored in:
/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut Pro System ID
delete the file and the next time FCP opens, it will ask for the relevant information.

Hello, i want to know if i can install final cut studio in more than 1 computer with the same serial number, or if i need to pay an extra money for the licences for using in 3 computers?

The license agreement is (1) desktop and (1) laptop...as long as they are both owned by you, and not used at the same time. This is to take into account you using one machine at the office, and the other machine at home or when you are travelling.
You may not install FCP on multiple machines and use all of them simultaneously. That is against the agreement.

Final Cut Studio 1.1?

A little background: got the Software Update pop-up just now - I have it set to Daily - and, by accident, clicked on the link for the Apple SLAs.
I was about to close Safari when I noticed some new-to-me software versions (FCP 5.1, DVDSP 4.1, STP 1.1, Motion 2.1). Also, there's an SLA for Final Cut Studio 1.1. I clicked on that and noticed this:
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you.(Of course, it goes on to contradict itself by saying that "This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time" but anway...)
For reference, the Final Cut Studio license (not 1.1, that is), reads:
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time.
A search of Apple.com for "Final Cut Studio 1.1" only returns the SLA page.
So that brings me to my question: Is anyone here familiar with Final Cut Studio 1.1? Is it some other type of license, like a special Volume License? Or perhaps the Crossgrade license?
Please don't use this as a jump-off to speculate - I ain't trying to get any heat brought down on us - I'm simply curious if anyone knows anything about this license since the SLA is available online.

My question is about the very fact that SLAs 'exist' for FCP 5.1, et al.

Final Cut Studio floating license.

Hi, I was wondering what kind of licensing Final Cut Studio comes with. I have a Macbook Pro, and am about to get a Mac Pro as well. At the moment I do not have FCS, but am about to buy a copy ... I was wondering whether I can install it on my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro and use one or the other depending on where I am. I will never need to use both at the same time (if I'm home its the MP, if I'm travelling its the MBP) so if I can carry a dongle from my Mac Pro to MBP it would be great.

That's correct, except that what you refer to as Final Cut Studio 5.0 was really just Final Cut Studio. Apple had not yet begun numbering the Studio. It contained Final Cut Pro 5.0, but the Studio didn't have a number, just a name.
Apple added permission to load FCS on a desktop AND a laptop for the first time with the SLA for FCS 5.1.
But in a confusing move, they have numbered the version that follows FCS 5.1 as FCS 2. Huh?
Regardless, it's the biggest upgrade in recent memory. Can hardly wait to receive it next week.

License Error on Final Cut Studio install

We just purchased Final Cut Studio 5.11 from the Mall of America Apple Store. After entering the serial number for Final Cut Studio, the Install screen moves on to the installation type, but gives me the following error,
"Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges"
I have one account on this machine, which is the Administrator account, I am logged into it during installation, I even have a done a few things that made it ask me for my password, and this still comes up.
After encountering that error, i was still able to install the software, but none of the programs will run, each asking for name/company/serial, then telling me the liscense file is not found.

I can't seem to find the license file, i've looked under library, and application support.
I have checked on my permissions, and I have read&write permissions to my home folder, applications, system, and both library folders.
In the Final Cut forum it said people were having problems with upgrading. I had an old version of FCP that I thought I had deleted, but maybe that is causing problems? Should I somehow uninstall all FCS/FCP info and start over?

Final Cut Studio Crossgrade License Question

Our office is in the process of updating all our G5s with the FCS crossgrade and have run into a little snag. The update comes with one serial number for Studio and it is presumable that it replaces and supercedes the previous versions of FCP, DVDSP, Motion, Livetype, and Soundtrack... So far, most of the machines are doing that. However, we have a couple of machines that are still attaching themselves with the old licenses.
Is there a preference file that can be deleted or an xml tag that can be changed in order for the new Final Cut Studio installer to prompt us to enter in the new serial?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you rename /Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut Studio System ID that should prompt you the next time you open an application...

Final Cut Studio software license agreement

Hi,
I have a question about installing Final Cut Studio on two systems - on one Mac Pro and one Macbook Pro. The software license agreement states that you can install and use one copy of the software on one desktop and one laptop.
Are there any issues with using the software simultaneously on each machine? I ask because I've heard of this issue with Microsoft Office.

How do I get a Final Cut Studio 3 license

I am interested on buying Final Cut Studio 3, but it is proving to be an uphill struggle. I am from Spain, and the few sites I know of that sell it can't send it overseas. So what can I do to get the suite?
And please, don't even mention Final Cut Pro X, it is not my thing...

Final Cut Studio 3 is no longer available new. Amazon sold it until they ran out of stack. Your only hope is to find someone who no longer uses any part of the suite and is prepared to uninstall it and sell you the pacakage. This will mean that you will own the rights to use it. I did this with a copy of Smoke . I only use it now for the other parts .. not FCP7 , I use DVDSP and Sound Track Pro ..

How many computers can I install Final Cut Studio 2 on?

Here's my dilemma. I'm a poor soon-to-be college grad with an old 2004 PowerBook G4. I'm starting to do video projects this summer and want to get a new computer and Final Cut Studio 2. The problem is, I don't have money for both. However, my current computer DOES meet the requirements (1GB RAM, 1.5Ghz engine, and 17" monitor) to install the apps and run them. So, ideally, I would buy Final Cut Studio 2 and install it on this old computer until I saved up enough money to get myself a Mac Book Pro in a few months. Then, I would install FCS 2 on my new computer. Is this possible? Can I install FCS 2 on my old G4 and then months later when I get a new computer, on my new computer? Or at least transfer the apps to my new computer?

Install it on the PowerBook, and when you get the MacBook Pro, download and use this tool on the PowerBook prior to installing it on the MacBook Pro. The license for Final Cut Studio 2 permits it to be installed on a desktop and portable but not two portables.
If you're in the middle of a project when you get the MacBook Pro, complete it before changing the configuration.

eBay heavily "overprotects" copyright owners.
The BSA is hired by Apple to look out for copyright violations. They simply go after everything without any investigation. eBay plays along and so you are the one with the problem to do something completely lega.
Here is the relevant section of FCS's SLA:
3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. All components of the Apple Software are provided as part of a bundle and may not be separated from the bundle and distributed as standalone applications.
This means that you are allowed to sell the package if you are the original owner of the software.

I need to re-install Final Cut Studio 2

After a major problem on my original booting HD - 6 years old - that I discovered while backing it up with SuperDuper (used successfully for years), I had to exchange it and after a week of fiddling... I managed to save almost everything from that faulty drive using Data Rescue II and Disk Image Restauration and have now my system almost back in shape - most of the programs (QT Pro, Photoshop CS, Acrobat, aso. requesting simply their original license/serial numbers BUT its another story for my suite of editing programs...
FCP is seemingly running but the rest of the Studio is not! I finally came to the conclusion that I have to re-install the whole FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 that itself is an upgrade of FINAL CUT PRO HD!
My question is quite simple: how do I go about desinstalling EVERYTHING so I can make a fresh new install?

Data Rescue worked fine for me - for everything but the Final Cut Suite - for my other programs like Photoshop aso, I just had to get my hands on my license numbers to get them back to work ! You might have had a problem Data Rescue describes in their manual as wrong ABL "allocation block layout" ! Please don't ask me more on that... I have no clue on what they're talking about!
I did erase everything Final Cut with FCS Remover, then re-installed FCP HD, then upgraded, then installed FC Studio 2 then upgraded (a busy day talking with those dialog boxes) so I supposedly now got everything back to before crash/drive exchange. I will give it a real test in the morning.

Unable to use final cut studio on more than 1 computer at a time

I bought an imac about 3 years ago and got final cut studio now i bought a g5 and put it on to the g5 as well. but i keep getting this error saying i cant have it open on 2 computers and i need that im trying to figure out how to make it work, the guy at apple support said it should work.
does anyone know how to fix this?

You could call Apple and ask, but I would be very surprised if they were still selling the licenses. They sold additional copies of FCS3 via phone sales only after the official discontinuation, but that was, I believe, to appease corporate customers that had budgets in place to acquire additional licenses and were blind sided by the discontinuation.
But that was, in the computer world, a long, long time ago.
