Final Cut Studio 2 Minimum System Requirements
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi....You're my only hope
I own a Dual 867 MHz Power PC G4 with 1.25 GB of ram and want to purchase Final Cut Studio 2, OS X v10.5 Leopard and Adobe Photoshop CS3. I know Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Leopard are compatible, However what concerns me is Final Cut Studio 2. These are the Minimum System Requirements stated [A Mac computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4 or G5, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, or Intel Xeon processor] So my question is would Final Cut Studio 2 work efficiently or even at all on my computer? My thinking is with collectively 1734 GHz power it should work, But i could also be delusional. I really would hate to end of buying it only to find put it won't work.
Thanks in advance!!!
If you're LUCKY, you might find a replacement processor card for your MDD Powermac G4 - (ideally dual 1.42GHz) - maybe eBay? - maybe from a Mac "breakers yard"? or someone selling off parts from a blown motherboard example?
It's a drop-in replacement, assuming you're OK with a screwdriver and replacement thermal paste.
Edit: Hey! There you go:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Processor-1-25-Ghz-Dual-661-2707_W0QQitemZ220236017864
(Actually, you might be better putting that money towards a MUCH better Mac.)

How to register Final Cut Studio after upgrading system?
After upgrading my system and changing to a new G5 Final Cut Studio lost Registering Info.
Always after around 5 times booting Final Cut I have a dialog box, that I have to register.
But the "Register Now" button is not aktive!
What to do?
G5 2x2 GB 1,5 GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.7)
G5 2x2 GB 1,5 GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.5)Make sure you have filled out all the fields
If I remember right, there is one field that is left blank (can not remember which one). Fill that one in, and the register button should become active. -
Which system for Final Cut Studio upgrade...iMac or MacBook Pro?
I am currently using FCE on a Powerbook G4 and am considering upgrading to Final Cut Studio. Which system would give me better performance: New iMac 24" (2.8 Penryn processor) or MacBook Pro (2.5 Penryn processor)? Does the NVIDIA graphics card for the iMac upgrade significantly improve editing performance.. or is the AGI 2600 Pro card sufficient? Anything else worth considering when comparing these systems?
Any input is appreciated... thanks.

Not all HD formats require eSATA drives, DVCPRO HD for example can be handled by FW 400 or FW 800 drives and HDV streams pretty much the same DV does.
Things change if at some point you need to deal with Uncompressed SD or HD, ProRes etc.
eSATA then would become mandatory.
If you'd like to set up a desktop then MacPro is what I suggest.
If you don't make a living from editing then I guess an iMac will do for a while.
A MacPro allows you to host/replace multiple internal drives, host/replace capture cards or GPUs if you need for business purposes.
Increase RAM up to 32GB etc
iMac does not offer such options.

MacBook 2.16Ghz Black and Final Cut Studio 2
Hello,
Is the black MacBook with:
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
200GB hard drive1
Double-layer SuperDrive
Capable of running Final Cut Studio 2? Obviously I would probably need more hard drive space to edit a proper video so I'm thinking of buying a firewire hard drive as well but for now I would be editing videos that would be no longer then 30 minutes and recorded with a SD camcorder, not High Definition video.
Final Cut Studio 2 says it requires:
An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
and
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
I couldn't see anything on the online store (mac) to tell me if this macbook has either of those. I assume it'll have 1024x768 but I know nothing about graphics cards.
If anyone can let me know about this I would GREATLY appreciate it.No.the MacBook's integrated GPU can't handle FCS 2.
Although it easily handles Final Cut Express. -
Final Cut Studio software license agreement
Hi,
I have a question about installing Final Cut Studio on two systems - on one Mac Pro and one Macbook Pro. The software license agreement states that you can install and use one copy of the software on one desktop and one laptop.
Are there any issues with using the software simultaneously on each machine? I ask because I've heard of this issue with Microsoft Office.
thanks. Are there any issues with using the software simultaneously on each machine?
1. The license specifically prohibits it.
2. If both machines are connected to the same network, the second instance will refuse to launch. -
Am I eligible for $299 Final Cut Studio Upgrade?
I own the following versions of Final Cut Pro. Some of them are very old.
Final Cut Pro 1.2 (Academic)
Final Cut Pro 3.0 (Academic)
Final Cut Pro 4 (Non-Academic, Upgrade version)
Will my ownership of any of these versions qualify me for the new $299 Final Cut Studio upgrade? And how does the upgrade work, does one just input their serial number from a previous version (I ask because none of my owned versions are currently installed)?
Thanks for the help. Much appreciated! Not quite sure how your FCP4 upgrade works as the previous academic versions were not upgradable.
The Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade version requires a non academic, full retail (non-upgrade) FCP serial number as the basis for upgrading.
However, when in doubt about this, best to have a conversation with Apple directly as they are the ultimate authority on whether this will work or not.

System requirements for Final Cut Studio 2
Hello. Can anyone help please?
There's a Final Cut Studio 2 that I have been offered to purchase, and I would like to go for it, only I'm not sure my machine will install it.
The machine is this:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP55.00AC.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.47f2
Serial Number (system): W894993366E
Hardware UUID: A0C3CB0E-3521-5238-8B44-450211CE479C
And it is running OSX 10.6.5
I mainly want to run the Final Cut Pro 6 from the FCS2 Suite.
Will it work!?
Any help gratefully recieved.
Many thanks
JWell I've asked him if he will. He's an Amazon seller, so... fingers crossed. Are there any other ways I can check? I've looked at the minimum system requirements on the Apple site, and it seems to be okay, but of course the Apple rep I spoke to seemed very doubtful (said that I should have to re-install the older OSX (5.5?) (that was out at the same time) by partioning my computer, so I could run both, and wanted to sell me FCP X instead. I of course told him I had heard the reviews and would only buy it over the counter named "my dead body". He promised me he wasn't on a commission basis, but.... he didn't seem very helpful! Cheers Ian.

I am thing of using Final Cut Pro but when I try and download I get the message “Your computer’s video card does not meet the minimum system requirements.” Can I do anything about this? I am using a Mac Pro early 2008 with Yosemite 10.10.2. My current graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB.

It is just as the message says. Your video card is not compatible.
You can add a compatible graphics card and use FCP X with your mac. I can't suggest which one, but maybe other people on this forum can guide.
And you may also get good suggestions in the Mac Pro forum. -
Final Cut Studio 2 System Requirements...
"An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)"
I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Can someone tell me if this is considered an integrated Intel graphics processor. If so, I cant use FCP?Can someone tell me if this is considered an integrated Intel graphics processor.
No. it isn't. The specification you gave refers to the CPU, not the graphics capability.
That model shipped with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card.
You can use FCP with the computer. -

Looking for advice on a new Mac Pro system mainly for Final Cut Studio 2
We are a small video production company that works mainly on broadcast and internet projects. We're looking to upgrade from an aging Avid system to a Mac Pro running Final Cut Studio 2. The primary thing we want from this system is to be able to work quickly in Final Cut while at the same time doing other operations, and we're willing to spend what it takes to make that happen. We've done a lot of research but still have some issues where we could use your expertise - it's a big investment and we want to nail it.
Here's the configuration we're considering:
Processor: Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
Memory: 16GB (4 x 4GB)
Hard Drives: 300GB 15,000-rpm SAS (for OS X, Final Cut, & other programs) plus 2 x 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (for video storage)
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
We're thinking about spending the extra $1600 to get the best processor available, since we want this machine to be the hub of the business for about five years. Any thoughts on whether to save a bit and go with the 2.8GHz? We've also heard the bus speed presents a bottleneck so the Quad-Core processing power can't be fully utilized - should that have any bearing on our processor decision?
The memory choice seems right - we'll see how well that works and retain the option to double the RAM, particularly as prices fall and new applications or hardware upgrades become tenable. However, we're thinking of perhaps buying some or all of the memory third-party - any advice on whether this tends to be worthwhile, where to get it, and what to watch out for? It looks like there may some issues with getting proper heat-sinking.
We like the hard drive plan, though we've heard a 15,000-rpm drive may generate a lot of heat - any thoughts on this?
The graphics card is where we're most torn - specifically between the Quadro 5600, the GeForce 8800, or perhaps even getting the computer with the standard card (or no card) and getting a different third-party card. We do mostly DV now, but we foresee doing HD projects in the future. We often use a green-screen that's in our studio and also apply minimal 3D effects as well as 3D text. We're debating whether to get the Quadro 5600 right off the bat and hopefully have no issues with it, or whether to get the GeForce 8800 for now and if we have issues then consider upgrading to the Quadro 5600 or potentially something else that would best suit our needs at that time. Would love to receive any and all advice on this issue.
Also, it looks like we're gonna buy Final Cut Studio 2 and are considering also getting Final Cut Server. It seems the combination would allows us to use the Final Cut suite on other computers (both Mac and Wintel) that don't have their own version of Final Cut installed. Is that the correct interpretation? Any other advice on whether to get FC Server would be appreciated.
Thanks very much for reading - we look forward to getting any and all advice you may have.

*Don't do it!* Stick with the dual-2.8GHz config. A jump from that to the dual-3.2GHz gains you only an approximate 9% increase in power at a 52% increase in cost! Not worth it all. That money is much wiser spent on RAM, RAID array, or a broadcast monitor.

The processor is only one part of the whole, and as I just mentioned, the power:cost benefits are not good.

Quadro 5600 is pricey, but I'm not sure about its benefits for people in our field. Even if I had the money for it, I would be hard pressed to consider it considering, again, money is liekly wiser spent elsewhere.

I don't know much about FCServer, but my impression is that it is -- simply speaking -- Final Cut version of Avid Unity. In other words, I am pretty certain that your understanding on that is false. I may be wrong. -
No Final Cut Studio System ID file: Must re-enter the SN every time.
I was having trouble with needing to re-enter the FCS 3 SN every time I open an app. I am going mad. Another thread said to delete the Final Cut Studio System ID file then restart the program. Well now I have no Final Cut Studio System ID file and I STILL need to enter the SN every **** time I launch a program.
This was an upgrade from the FCS academic version.
Any help?OK, let's give this a try.
First, let's create the systemid file again by launching Final Cut Pro and and re-register. This should create the files in the /tmp/ directory.
Then run this command in the Terminal.
launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.aelwriter.plist
launchctl start com.apple.aelwriter
Finally, run this command in the Terminal. It will ask you to enter your admin passward.
sudo /usr/sbin/AELWriter -installer
The files should have moved from /tmp/ to /Library/Application Support/ProApps/. If not then, something might be preventing from moving those files... perhaps a permission problem? -
Does Final Cut Studio require Adminstrative rights to work
Does Final cut Studio require Admin rights or will it run as a standard user
I know that it has to be in Admin to installIf properly installed it will run on any type of account.

Final cut studio system recommendations
i cant find the system recommendations for final cut studio, only final cut studio 2.
i have a 1.6ghz single-core Powermac G5 with 768mb memory that works well enough with final cut studio. i wouldn't mind making it as fast as possible and was wondering where i can get good but cheap memory and how i could further boost my machine.
help anyone?RAM can be had from Crucial.com
Don't know anything about processor accelerators. You might check over in the hardware section of the forum. Lots of smart people over there to offer advice.

Final Cut Studio has slowed my system down creating beach balls
Hello,
Ever since I upgraded to Final Cut Pro studio from Final Cut Pro Production suite I have noticed an inordinate amount of rotating beach balls and the computer locking up. The previous Final Cut Pro bundle created few beach ball and locking up situations. What could be causing this? I do have the universal Final Cut Studio package. Is this the problem? Do I need to update anything to correct this? Currently, I have two G5 computers, a dual 2.5 and a quad core 2.5. These should be screaming machines that roar. I don't find it that way, yet.
Thanks,
Jordan Simkinsif you trash plists in the studio programs you will cause templates to become unassociated along with other things
would you mind elaborating on this? for which Pro app is this an issue?
for your reference Final Cut Pro is not one of those apps for which this is a problem.
a plist file is a "properties list" file which serves a an applications primary preference file. when you first install an application is has no plist file, it doesn't exist ... this is written when the application is launched and/or quit. if you delete an applications preference file then it will simply launch as though it were the first run and hence write a new one.
consider ... if you create a new user account and log into it, then there can be no preference file (plist) for the appliaction for that user
try it ... create a new user and log into it. don't launch any apps, just take a look in the users Preferences folder and see if you can see any plist files for Final Cut Pro or any of the Pro apps ... ok now launch one of those Pro apps and see if the templates are unassociated (and other things). now quit and take another look in the users Preference folder and see if the plist files now exist.
when we talk about trashing prefs we are talking specifically of trashing these user preferences. this is tried and tested and is 100% reliable advice. as suggested, these helper apps such as FCP Rescue and FCP Attic take all the pain out of this process by doing it for you (also ensuring that you don't trash the wrong files).
remember, this is a Final Cut Pro board, not a All Pro Apps board ... the advice being handed out is specifiv to FCP. you're wisdom and insight is much appreciated but please don't hand it out without fully explaining yourself ... it will only serve to confuse those with less experience and expertise. no advice is better than bad advice.
