Hi,
welcome to FCP forum.
Yes, FCP works fine with the X1600.
Do you have Logic 8 installed in your MBP?

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and Macbook (not Pro)

Curious to know if anyone has any experience running Final Cut Studio 2 on a non-pro Macbook. Can Macbook handle Final Cut Pro alright? Is video memory an issue?
    Thanks,
    Mbs

For the record, Motion will run on a MacBook. It's just that some of the features aren't supported, and will produce incorrect results. So I wouldn't rely on it.
Final Cut, however, works perfectly. No problems at all.

  • Installation of Final Cut Studio on new Mac Pro

    Hello all,
I have just purchased a new Mac Pro, and am preparing to install Final Cut Studio upgrade. The wrinkle for me is that I have Final Cut Pro 3.02 installed on an old G4 Power Mac. I have two video projects on the old computer, also backed up on external drives, that I want to be able to edit on the new computer.
I am planning to install my old FCP software on my new Mac Pro, then install the FCS upgrade software. Is there anything I should know or do before doing this to make sure that I will not have any trouble either 1) installing Final Cut Studio upgrade, or 2) accessing my old FCP files.
Many thanks in advance for your wisdom and assistance.

I've successfully installed Final Cut Studio. Thanks, David, for the installation tip.
Now I am holding my breath that I will not have any trouble copying scratch files for my most important projects to my second hard drive, or opening these projects on my new computer.

  • Cannot install Final Cut Studio on new Mac Pro

When I go to install Final Cut Studio on my new Mac Pro, it tells me that "Final Cut Studio Installer requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
I have the ATI 5870 and, just a wild guess here, I'm betting it does support Quartz Extreme.
A software update doesn't help me here because I cannot get the software installed the first place to be able to update it. What should I do?

FCS 1...Final Cut Pro 5.0? Won't work on an Intel. PowerPC only. You need at least 5.1...which wasn't a free upgrade, so updating won't work. You need FCP 5.1, FCP 6 or the most recent FCP 7. Those are the only versions that will work on the newer macs.

  • Final Cut Studio - Install on Two Macbook Pros?

I just purchased the academic version of Final Cut Studio. I have been reading the forums and have discovered that it is possible to install this on one desktop and one laptop, and both work as long as you are not working on them at the same time.
However, I have not been able to find if it is possible to install Final Cut Studio on two Macbook Pros. Does it have to be one desktop and one laptop or is it limited to two installations total? The license agreement says one desktop and one laptop, however how would it know if it were two laptops?
    Thank you for your feedback.

Used by you doesn't mean used by someone else that doesn't own the computer
I'm an editor. Been one for several years. Any company I've worked for and edited with FCP has been on the company's computer and software, not owned by me. Are you saying that an editor for a company is expected to purchase their own computer and software in order to edit for a cooperation? Unlikely. A freelance or independent editor may have their own system that they edit on, but I am talking about an editor as an employee at a cooperation (where personal computers are restricted) or Macs and software that are available at an educational institution like an Apple Authorized Training Center.
I went to Apple Campus as a requirement of becoming ACT and "used" Final Cut pro on a computer that was not owned by me. Several others have done this and will continue to do so because it's a loophole that is apparently intended in the SLA for these reasons. Unless you're saying that Apple is breaking their own SLA agreement and advising others to do so in their training facility requirements which states:
    The AATC is responsible for:
    • Providing all hardware and software described in this document
The definition of the word "used" in this circumstance begs further clarification. Until that happens one can assume that the ordinary circumstance of its meaning for this situation is open to various interpretations.
OK so let's say I agree with your comment even if I don't. It still doesn't mean that if I owned a laptop and desktop that I can't use both at the same time according to the SLA. Only that they can't both be used at the same time over a network. So If I was encoding or rendering video on my desktop I could still use the laptop to edit at the same time.

  • Final cut studio 2 on mac mini

has anyone tried it on a mac mini?
i want to get a new mac pro but since the design is about to change sooner or later i prefer to get a desktop in the meantime.
does it run on a mac mini with that slow graphic card? what about color or motion?
    thanks
mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html
"A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor
    1GB of RAM
An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher."
That is the requirement to install all of the applications. Motion and definitely Color won't work.
You might be able to run DVD SP and FCP 6, however.
But then what do you capture video footage to?

  • Problems installing Final Cut Studio on my new Macbook Pro

I just got my new 17 inch Macbook Pro, and am trying to install Final Cut Studio 3.  It installed just fine, and accepted the serial number.  The problem is that every time I open the application, I have to reenter the serial number.  Once I do that, it runs fine, but the next time, I have to reenter the info again.  Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

do some searching here.  I remember other people having this problem.  You might also try repairing permissions on your startup drive, deleting your fcp preferences

And creating a new account in system preferences:  accounts.

  • Exporting scoring markers in Final Cut Studio and importing to Logic Pro

I want to export my scoring markers with the movie in Final Cut Studio and see them as markers in Logic Pro 7.2.x. I need to use the markers as "hit points" to calculate my tempos and effectively lay out my score based upon the action in the picture. I'm exporting the Final Cut Studio project to a Quicktime movie and choosing audio and video + "scoring markers". Thanks for your help.
    TG

Don't bother rendering a movie out of LiveType, simply save the project file and import it into FCP.
LiveType outputs in the Animation codec only, so you will always have to render. Using the project file has another advantage -right clicking and choosing "Open in Editor" will drop you back into LiveType where you can quickly make adjustments, save and return to FCP with the changes in place.
To set project properties, you can use the Place Background Movie function in LiveType. Drop a short clip in and it will automatically adjust the properties to match. You can delete it once you have the settings. If you have Anamorphic video, you will still need to adjust the pixel aspect ratio -exact settings depend on the format, you haven't told us that yet.
Again, depending on the format, you might have to set the Anamorphic flag in FCP's Item Properties for the LiveType file.
When you view the FCP export in QuickTime Player 7 (not QuickTime Player X) make sure that the High Quality Playback preference is selected.
    Typefaces in video:
Avoid using small, thin, delicate and Serif typefaces. They never work well.
A well known example of a Serif font is Times, which you should avoid at all costs in any case -it makes it look like you made the titles in MS Word. Stick with San Serifs with clear, bold strokes. Helvetica is a popular example of a San Serif.
If your titles are white, reduce the brightness to around 90%. Apply a shadow or border to distinguish them from the background. While it might sound counter productive, applying a tiny amount of blur can help too.
One more thing: Don't put your email address in the body of your post. The forums are open to anyone who wants to read them and by extension, web bots. They will harvest the address and bombard it with spam. We don't do personal email on the forums anyway -we share information amongst all users.

  • Final cut studio and intel macs

How well will final cut studio run on the new intel macs that were announced today? thanks for the help!

According to Apple the new intel machines will not run the current version of Final Cut Studio. You either have to wait until March when they release the Universal version or you can buy the suite now to run on your G4/G5 then get the Universal suite for $50 in March.

  • Final Cut Studio 7 and Mac Pro RAID recommendations

    I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) with 4 x 750gb SATA drives and 1 Promise DS4600 eSATA, decked out with 4 x 1TB 7200 RPM drives.
I am considering the following setup for the disks. I am trying to make sure there is enough redundancy in the setup to survive a hard drive failure and enough performance to satisfy edit and uncompressed HD capture needs over a BlackMagic Intensity card (120mb/s required):
    1 x 750gb RAID1 System Drive - Macintosh HD (internal drives 1 & 2), block size 32kb
    1 x 750gb RAID1 for FCP Scratch - ScratchDisk (internal drives 3 & 4), block size 128kb
    1 x 2tb RAID10 for FCP capture - FCP Capture (Promise DS4600), block size 128kb over eSATA
…purchase something for Time Machine backup or use CCC (external firewire800)
Anything I've missed or anything I should or should not do? Thanks for the input.

I know of audio folks that use mirror for live recording and editing, yes, but there they need multiple drives and to spread out their tracks and libraries and plug-ins, not HD video.
There are excellent RAID6 card setups that make sense. And stick with quality drives.
Audio high-end anyway use to mean SCSI and FibreChannel.
So yes, move project files to RAID6 would be a good move. And do 'torture' the drives to death - BEFORE they are used - for like a week at least, to work and break them in and iron out any bugs.
Use Enterprise RAID Enabled drives, stay off bleeding edge and use safe trusted and reliable equipment (drives, controller, software). One of the real "killers" is if you need new hardware, are forced into an OS that hasn't had a year of testing and your applications usually take 6-12 months (or more) to really be certified.
There aren't a lot of RAID6 controllers, but there are some, and some SAS/SATA.

  • Re-Installing Final Cut Studio 5 on Mac OSX 10.6.8

I used to use FCP 5 on my Mac using OS 10.5.8, after I upgraded to 10.6, I realize there's some problem opening FCP files,
I tried to unistall and re-install FCP 5 on my Mac now, which is using 10.6.8 now, error message shows

In addition to that, I had changed my display card from ADM Radeon 2600XT(which used to work) to NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT; I'm not sure if that's also a cause, but I suppose not.

A follow-up question, I had it successfully installed and worked on the same computer with FCP 5 when the OS was 10.5.8.
and is there anything can do to upgrade the FCP 5 to 5.1 (instead of buying a new version FCP x)?
    Thanks!

  • How's Final Cut Studio on a stock MacBook Pro?

    say the 15"er.
anyone doing it? ok, or just FCP?

unless you're rich and can afford the 17 the 15 is great. I love mine, like a son. Some one should kick Unsanity and get them to make all their appz universal, i had to uninstall shapeshifter to use CS2 etc. But yea, it is so flipin powerful, went to throw the feature i am cutting into idvd for a quick screener and BOOM it riped through it on best quality (i usually leave it on over night, it took maybe and hour or so.)

  • Final Cut Studio 2 on new MacBook Pro 15"

Is this configuration enough to run FCS2 on one of the new (June 2009) MacBook Pro 15"?
    -2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    -8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    -500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    -SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
-MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
If so, do I need the 8GB RAM or could I stick with the new standard of 4GB? I don't plan on working with HDV too much, but I may need to edit a few clips of it. Other than that, everything will be standard DV or miniDV.
    Thanks.

Yes, these specs will satisfy FCS2, with some exceptions (notably, Color requires a 17" screen). Here is the full list of requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
8GB is way overkill for HDV (it's moot at present anyways, as FCP can only utilize 4GB), and WAY overkill for DV.
500GB is enough HD space, but you'll get better performance and reliability with an external HD rather than working with media on your system drive.
