Final Cut Studio 2.x Sony DCR-TRV900 Compatibility
My Sony DCR-TRV900 camera is not listed in the FCS 2.x compatible devices list. Any one know what this means exactly? Apple techs just say "it's not compatible" without further explanation. I upgraded to the Mac Pro/FCS from Adobe Premiere Pro running on my PC expecting increases in quality and now my film quality has gone south with grainy editing footage etc.
Thx

As long as you have an IEEE 1394 (FireWire/iLink) connection (which you do) then you should be fine. The support issue may have to do with device controllability (in Log and Capture, play/scrub/etc the camera from the FCP control interface).
If Final Cut cannot control your device for whatever reason, there is the simple workaround of using the +Non-Controllable Device+ preset under the Capture Settings tab.
For more info, refer to page 287 of the FCP user manual.

Final Cut Studio 2 and Sony SR1e | AVCHD Format
Hi,
I'am new to this forum and can't find any useful information regarding the support of the AVCHD-Format used by Sony's SR1e.
So does the latest Final Cut Studio 2 support the .mts AVCHD Format by the SR1E?
I see Sony in the partner list, but the cam is not on the device list.
I found some scripting and complicated ways to convert the .mts to mpeg, but maybe there is a smarter solution out there?
Or is it really true, that I have to use the Nero Burning Application on Windows to convert the AVCHD's instead of the latest Final Cut Studio editing software?
btw: Squared 5's Streamclip Software is not able to convert the .mts files.

Not sure about FCS2 but you do have options with a capture card and bring in to FC in many different codecs. Depending on your computer you could use a Black Magic Intensity card for the all digital HDMI port on this camera and bring it in as DVC PRO HD and edit in an all digital all I frame codec. Even if Apple comes out with support for this AVCHD you may still want to avoid it as most HDV shooter/editors do.
Good Luck

Final Cut Studio 6 and Sony Deck HVRM15U
Is Final Cut Studio 6 compatible with the Sony HVRM15U deck. NTSC Format connecting to Mac with Firewire and recording back to tape from Final Cut.
I bought the HVR-M15U Deck last week but I am having difficulty understanding the Menu settings. I intend to transfer HDV video (mini-DV tape) from the deck to FCP and then from FCP out to the Deck on a full size DV tape. I have connected firewire directly to the computer (no 3rd party capture card) and FCP tells me that my device capture pre-sets are wrong. I used Easy Set-up for HDV. Is there something I need to do with the Deck's menu setting so that I match up with FCP? Also I tried capturing from the deck to imove 08. imovie does control the deck but I get no image in the imovie capture screen on import. Anyone used the deck with imovie 08?

Final Cut Studio 2 and Sony HDR-HC5
Hello, my name is Marc Bostian.
I'm a new Final Cut user, have shot some video on my HD Video on my Sony HDR-HC5. I have hooked it up with a FireWire 800 cable. to my Dual 2.3 G5 tower. I am able to control the camera in the Capture windows, but I'am not able to see the video on screen or capture anything.
I'm using an Easy Setup of HDV - 1081i60 FireWire Basic.
I have several full tape I need to transfer over and get started learning how to edit. I'm hoping I have something set wrong.. ??
thanks
MarcWelcome to the club' .. I have been on Final Cut since #1, which is about 9 years I believe. And for me, I sometimes feel I have just scratched the surface'. But Final Cut is professional grade software, with so many different possible ways to do things. Unfortunately it has never been just plug & play, at least for me. I can't even remember how many hours I have sat & scratched my head wondering what was wrong, and it would turn out to be something simple I overlooked because I didn't take the time to learn the fundamental's .. I was always to anxious to make a project, and just dive in .. really wasting a lot of time stumbling along by experimentation.
I will say this though, these forums are a life saver, especially the FCpro. forum, for me anyway. A couple weeks ago I didn't have a clue why all of a sudden I couldn't capture HDV. anymore when it has been working fine for close to three years .. Even the certified Apple tech's where I have purchased all my computers couldn't, or probably wouldn't tell me what was up .. but I have the feeling they new about the conflicting issues with earlier software and the new Intel processor's .. After all they are in business to sell computers, not teach. They suggested I call Apple, or search
these forums. There a lot of very helpful & knowledgeable folks here .. and usually most problems get solved .. for better or worse. Lots of Luck ... -
Final cut express 4 with Sony DCR VX2000E
When I connect my camcorder Sony DCR VX2000E through the firewire 400 socket I get the message it is not connected or switched on. I can't capture any video.
Who can help ?Nobody with the amount of information you've provided. What OS, what version of QT, what drives are you using, how are they and the camera connected, what settings are on the media, what settings are you using in FCE, and does the system profiler see the camera?

Sony HDR-CX7 and Final Cut Studio 2 ???
Hey there people,
I live in Australia and I am new to this forum & couldn't actually locate a specific thread for my questions so hopefully anyone could be of assistance.
Basically, I have just bought a Macbook Pro 2.4ghz notebook, Final Cut Studio 2 and a Sony HDR-CX7 hi def camcorder.
Has anyone come across issues with Final Cut Studio picking up the hi def clips straight from the Sony camcorder when you try to import files to Final Cut? After some research, it seems as though this can simply be fixed by buying a FireWire cable to connect from the camcorder straight to the FireWire port on the notebook. Is this correct??
Any assistance would be great or if anyone knows of a link to a thread specifically for the Sony HDR-CX7 and Final Cut Studio 2. The standard def seems to work ok but the hi def isn't picked up on either the Macbook direct or Final Cut Studio. I just would like to ensure that i am able to use the camcorder hi def with Final Cut
Cheers!!You should be able to transfer from the camera to FCP through the log and transfer window with a FW cable... FCP 6.0.1 added AVCHD support anyway...

Final Cut Studio - Sony VTR HVR-M15P
Can anyone tell me if they have successfully used a Sony HVR-M15P VTR tape deck in Final Cut Studio. On the compatibility list a Sony HVR-M15U is there. Is this the same deck but Pal Version?
yes I have used the deck to firewire import to FCP on a powerbook G4 1.67Ghz from tapes recorded on sony a1 hdv and a canon MV6i dv cameras with no problems.

Final cut Studio package is it worth the money ?
I have the most recent iLife package along with Toast, and Photo to Movie. My main goal is to make high quality photo slideshows to play on a TV. Will the Final Cut Studio Package really produce a better looking product, or does it just give me more control over what I can do with the images?
ChrisThe Pro Apps allow for the use of conventional DVD-R media (like Verbatim DVD-R) as well as "Digital Linear Tape" or DLT which is what professionals prefer to write to rather than burning to standard DVD-R media.
Do a search on the DVDSP forum for DLT devices like the Quantum DLT4000 to learn more about this process.
Standard DVD-R media (for the most part) has significantly higher error rates as opposed to DLT which is extremely precise. From DLT an exact Glass Master can be produced which is like the "mold" for all future commercially pressed DVD copies which in turn also has far fewer error rates than conventional DVD-R media since it is pressed rather than burned to the surface of the media. Hope this makes sense.
This entire process is much more conducive for mass distribution of DVD's and can be very costly for small or what is called a "short run".
I can't give you an opinion on FotoMagico since I do not use it. Fred Shippey & others know much more about this app than I do. Anyway, I sure hope the above is semi helpful & good luck to you!

What Mac to get for Final Cut Studio?
I've been doing most of my video editing for the last year or so in Sony Vegas on a PC. I'm looking to get into it a bit more seriously and want to make the switch to Final Cut Studio.
Can I run it on a Macbook Pro? Can I run it WELL on a Macbook Pro? Currently I'm running Sony Vegas on a PC with a Q9350 quad-core CPU, 4gb ram, and an 8800GT graphics card, and I'm not fully satisfied with the way it runs (encoding times are fine, but it's difficult to preview within the software with any semi-complex effects added). What should I be looking for in terms of processing speed and whatnot here? Could I get away with the 13 or 15 inch Macbook pros and still run things well?
Hard drive size is not an issue, as everything will be archived to a server. This isn't the thread in post in.

It depends on which MBP, what type of video you are editing, and other factors.
Remember as well that FCS3 2009 includes FCP, DVDSP, Compressor, Color, Motion, and Cinema Tools, some of which are GPU based in part. -
Recommended Cameras for Final Cut Studio
We have a Power Mac G5 with Final Cut Studio and we recently bought a Canon Elura 80, which did not work with our system. It was on the apple list for cameras. What have the members of this forum found to work for them for a camcorder capture device?
THanksGo with a Sony. They are tanks. They last forever. Here's a good one

Using one right now plugged into the font port of my G5 with 7 external FW drives plugged into the rear FW port and no PCI cards. I Don't get dropped frames or any problems typically seen with deck issues. -
What Is The Difference With FInal Cut Studio 2 Academic To Full Version?
Hi there I just got a Macbook Pro and plan on buying Final Cut Studio 2 but found the Academic version cheaper and was wondering what the difference is especially with quality and the handling of hd video Sony EX HD to be exact). Thank you for any responses.
The software is the same; the only difference is that you cannot upgrade an academic version and you have to be able to qualify for the academic pricing (students and teachers).
