  • FINAL CUT STUDIO PRO - CAN'T GET "SMOOTHCAM" EFFECT

    PROBLEM:
FINAL CUT STUDIO PRO - CAN’T GET “SMOOTHCAM” EFFECT
    I use a Macbook Pro 17”
Software: Leopard 10.5. External LaCie Hard Drive 1TB
I upgraded my Computer Software to Leopard and reinstalled Final Cut Pro and Motion on my Laptop. It worked fine with SmoothCam, but as I had lost too much space on my Laptop Harddrive, I decided to reinstall the full program, choosing custom location the external LaCie drive.
Since than Final Cut Pro can’t find SmoothCam and it asks to reinstall SmoothCam.
    ➢ ./library/Plug-Ins/FX /Plug< Not Existing
    ➢ ./library-Application Support/ProApps/Internal Plug-Ins/FX Plug<
    This file is empty.
My project I work on at the moment is a film, where I had done a lot of SmoothCams, but since reinstalling it will not find the effect anymore, it asks to reinstall SmoothCam.
In the mean time I tried several times to start from scratch and reinstall the whole Program, but now I’m not even able to register anymore, it will not accept the correct Registration No.
I would appreciate anybodies help very much.

I had a similar problem when I upgraded my MacBook Pro to leopard as well. This is what I did (after several trial and errors)...
1.) Wipe the computer again and reinstall leopard. I suggest doing a custom install and just leave out things you do not need as they just take up valuable space.
2.) Reinstall FCS but DO NOT let it install the additional content as we will get to that part later. Just install the core programs themselves and uncheck the boxes to install the additional content.
3.) After FCS is installed re-run the installer and install the content but change the location to your external drive. At this point I created a folder on my external called "Final Cut Studio" and Created separate folders for each program and its content.
4.) After you have reinstalled the content on to your external drive, go into each program and point them to where the extra content is kept. <--- This step and step 3 arent really needed, but they make things easy for when you have to wipe your computer. This has saved me LOTS of time on reinstalling FCP because now all you have to do is install the core programs from now on.
You once you start FCP all your effects should be there. The main thing here is to do a complete wipe of the system and rebuild. Not just an uninstall / re-install. As far as your registration problem your going to have to call apple. I had a problem with an old serial number where it would not take it anymore after updating the software to 6.0.2 from 6.0. They can give you a new number to use and it does not take too long.
Hope that helps you out some.

  • What do I need to do to install Final Cut Studio version 2 on a new Mac Book Pro

What do I need to do to install Final Cut Studio version 2 on a new Mac Book Pro that does not support power PC anymore

You need to install Rosetta from a OSX 10.6 install disk.
FCS2 is intel native, it is only the installer that requires PPC support.

  • Can Final Cut Studio be installed on a new Mac Pro?

My G5 PPC died.  The processor went bad.  It would have cost me around 2 grand to fix.  So I just bought a brand new Mac Pro thinking that would be the better investment.  Tried to install Final Cut Studio and it is not supported.  Is this true?  If so - this Mac is going back to apple for a refund and I'll pay the 2 grand to fix the old one.  I can't afford to loose years of past projects.  Not to mention I am in the middle of project and have no way of working on it. Any fix for this?  My trust in Apple low and my years loyalty may have to move to another system.  I thought it was just drama when a college said the end has come for FCP.

FCP 5, 4.5, 3...no, they will not work on Intel Macs.  FCP 5.1 was the first version to work on those machines.  So if you have FCP 5 or earlier, no, it will not install.  Sorry.  And since FCP as you know it has been discontinued, you can't really upgrade to a later version that will open your projects.  FCX is the new version, and it is very different than FCP was, and cannot open older project files.
Sorry man...when you hold on to old old software, and get new machines, it won't always work. This is true for any software, on any machine.  FCP 5 is over 6 years old...7!

and if you've previously had fcp installed on this system, as mentioned in the user tip, be sure and wipe all traces of the app using digital rebellions uninstaller, before reinstalling.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 -can't make good slide shows?

    Greetings,
As I understand it, getting a good quality DVD produced in FCP from digital slides isn't possible.
Having acquired Final Cut Studio 2, I hoped to avoid more software purchases.
Do I really need a third party application such as Fotomagico to produce quality video from digital slides?

No you can do it in FCP.
From what I've read about Fotomagico, that program will do it much quicker.
If you can pre-format all your pictures and use tiffs or pngs instead of jpgs then you're better off with FCP. But I've used jpgs. Just used used about 2000-3000 of them for a family project.
I don't advise using that many, but if you create lots of different sequences and put them all together at the end it's doable...also you will need to dramatically increase your Still Cache memory in the Memory and Cache Tab within your System Settings.
    Good luck

  • Final Cut Studio 3 can switch from Japanese to english?

I live in Japan and I want to buy Final Cut Studio 3, but there is only Japanese language only. I'm afraid of purchasing it and it won't switch to 100% in English. Is there an International version in Japan? Has anyone purchased from Japan and using it in english? Any info would be most appreciated.
    Thank you

Thank you for answering the question. I went ahead to call Apple Store Japan and ask the same question. It should work on any language once you set your main computer to the language your of choice. I will purchase and will keep you posted.
    Thank you

  • Which system for Final Cut Studio upgrade...iMac or MacBook Pro?

I am currently using FCE on a Powerbook G4 and am considering upgrading to Final Cut Studio. Which system would give me better performance: New iMac 24" (2.8 Penryn processor) or MacBook Pro (2.5 Penryn processor)? Does the NVIDIA graphics card for the iMac upgrade significantly improve editing performance.. or is the AGI 2600 Pro card sufficient? Anything else worth considering when comparing these systems?
    Any input is appreciated... thanks.

FW 400 is enough to deal with DV footage,
Not all HD formats require eSATA drives, DVCPRO HD for example can be handled by FW 400 or FW 800 drives and HDV streams pretty much the same DV does.
Things change if at some point you need to deal with Uncompressed SD or HD, ProRes etc.
    eSATA then would become mandatory.
If you'd like to set up a desktop then MacPro is what I suggest.
If you don't make a living from editing then I guess an iMac will do for a while.
A MacPro allows you to host/replace multiple internal drives, host/replace capture cards or GPUs if you need for business purposes.
Increase RAM up to 32GB etc
iMac does not offer such options.
    Your call,
    G.

  • Need Help Installing Final Cut Studio Version 2.0.1 on Macbook Pro

I am trying to install an old version of Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Studio Version 2.0.1) on my macbook pro (OS X Mountain Lion). When I tried to install it, it said, "power pc applications not supported on this computer". I was told to "uninstall" OS X on my computer, install Final Cut Studio, and reinstall OS X Mountain Lion again. Is this true? If so, how do I do this?

There is a "bug" in the installer application of Final Cut Studio Pro 2 that will fail to work in Lion or Mt. Lion; it will work successfully in Snow Leopard and a subsequent upgrade to Lion or Mt. Lion after the successful installation of FCSP2 will continue to work.
Once Mt. Lion is installed you can use one of these two methods to install FCSP2:
    1)  Pacifist
    2)  Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method:

  • Does final cut express 4.0 work in new macbook bought in Oct 2013

I bought Final Cut Express 4.0 in 2008 and recently I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" around Oct 2013 and updated to Mavericks 10.9. I copied all the contents and apps from the old macbook to the new one and when using the Final Cut Express, it asked me for the serial number and when I tried to add it, it says serial not valid. What can I do to be able to use my Final Cut Express? Please any suggetions?

    Three thoughts,
    1.  It is usually better to re-install pro apps (like FCE) from scratch instead of migrating them from an older Mac.  If you migrated FCE from your old Mac, this could be the reason for the hiccup with the serial number.
    2.  The serial number is very long, and it's very easy to mistype a character.  Try entering it again, being very careful typing and check the serial nubmer visually before you hit the enter key.
    3.  Keep in mind that FCE was discontinued in June 2011, even before Lion was released.  It is no longer supported and there is no guarantee it will run, or run properly, on later versions of OS X including Mavericks.   Users have had spotty success with it on Lion, Mt. Lion & Mavericks.  YMMV.
Final Cut Pro X is the currently released & suported video editing app from Apple.   You can download, install & try it out free for 30 days.

  • Will Final Cut Studio 2 work on the new 24" iMac?

I'd like to buy the iMac, but not if I can't run FCS2. Will it run it and how do I need to upgrade/configure it?

    Hi there,
I run FCP2 on a new 24" iMac (I max'ed out the RAM, which I would recommend if you do go that way). Everything is fully operational, but there might be some downsides depending upon what you are doing.
    - the iMac will take longer on rendering tasks, and will not have as much available for real-time viewing in your timeline with effects applied as a beefier Mac Pro will. To elaborate, when you add effects (or if you want to live preview certain effects) you will have to render before viewing your video.
    - the iMac is no where near as expandable as a Mac Pro, for storage, memory, CPU, and video cards. Even the lowest config of a Mac Pro is likely to wipe the floor with a loaded iMac on many intensive tasks. Imagine what a loaded Mac Pro can do! Of course, it will cost you...
That said, the 24" iMac makes a decent "budget" editing box. I added Lacie Quadra d2 external hard drives on the Firewire800 interface which are ALMOST as fast as internal. I don't add much in the way of 3D or particle effects to the majority of work I do on the iMac, so the performance is quite nice. I work primarily in SD still and the standard editing performance is very snappy (not too bad for rendering either; 2 hours of SD output takes like 15 minutes, I've heard this can take as little as 5 minutes on a Mac Pro)...I think I would abandon the iMac for a Mac Pro in a second if I was working a lot in HD, or if I did a lot of compositing and so on.
One thing to keep in minding if you are purchasing as you grow in editing knowledge...If you purchased an iMac today as used it for 2 years before you decided you had outgrown it's capabilities and need a Mac Pro, it wouldn't be a waste of money. The Xsan cluster rendering that FCP2 can do is really neat in that you can distribute some of your rendering tasks to other Macs on your network, allowing you to keep the iMac doing something useful while the Mac Pro remains your main editing station.
There was a post about not using an iMac for "professional" editing, and I would tend to agree. If you make your living by editing, do yourself a favor and buy the "right tool for the job", namely a Mac Pro. My iMac does a nice job for what I paid for it, but if it was paying my bills, I'd upgrade without hesitation.
However you end up deciding to go, enjoy your new Mac!

  • New MacBook Final Cut Studio More Detials.

Hi since my latest posts have not been very informational Than here is a complete new more detailed one.
    I have purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD9-8GB
The SD9 records to a 8GB SDHC card
It can record Full HD 1920x1080/24p or 1920x1080/60i
It can record at 17mbps highest data rate so far.
It records for 1 hour at HA
    Has no FireWire.

I plan on purchasing the new MacBook. "Specs below"
    MacBook 3rd option
    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    320GB Hard Drive
4GB ram "I know HD requires 4GB of ram"
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of shared main memory

Final Cut Studio And Shake 4.1
How well will Motion 3 work on the new MacBook with Apple Pro Res 422 in 1920x1080 60i and or 24p
How well will Final Cut Pro 6 work on the new MacBook with Apple Pro Res 422 in 1920x1080 60i and or 24p
How well will Shake 4.1 work on the new MacBook with Apple Pro Res 422 in 1920x1080 60i and or 24p
Each clip I usually take is only a few minutes long. Unless we have some Family thing than its about an hour but in that case I would be using Final Cut Pro 6 to maybe cut some things out but nothing big editing wise and DVD Studio Pro 4 or iDVD 08 to make a DVD for the Family.
I am not a payed professional.
I do not use firewire right now fore video intake or editing. I don't know how it applies at all. If i need the firewire for a scratch disk. Why not just make a partition on the internal drive and use it as the Scratch Disk.
Yes I know how to do a lot with these applications.
I only edit for fun and to learn more and more cool stuff.
I may one day start making Applications that is when I finally learn how to write code.
I may start off by making Dashboard Widgets.
I plan on getting the New Apple Display for some great at home editing on one nice big screen.
Apples site says on the MacBook pro.
Minimum graphics memory usage is 256MB. An additional 16MB is required when using an external display.
Does this also apply to the MacBook because on the MacBook site is does not say.
So will/should the New MacBook handle all of what I mentioned hear.

Note I am currently doing this on a MacBook with 2.4GHz processor with 160GB of hard disk space 2MB of ram 144 shared main memory Intel graphics card X1300 or something.
Motion works well but either quits or gets slow when analyzing a video in 1920x1080 24p.
Shake works great but analyzing slows down my MacBook until the process is done. With 1920x1080 24p
And Shake tends to cause my MacBook to get a little slow when rendering out file nodes.

  • Final Cut Studio HD problem with new Macbook Pro

I bought FCS HD and installed it onto my new Macbook Pro, but when I went to run Final Cut, it told me it was missing the graphics card. Now, the graphics card is different to my old laptop and G5, but surely the new macbook pro should be able to run my Final Cut Studio.
I was planning to buy the upgrade, not a whole new programme - now I am worried I will need to buy both an upgrade and Final Cut Studio 2.

This is a FCP HD, but no Final Cut Studio HD
My guess is that you are trying to run FCP 4.5 HD on an Intel Mac.
It isn't reliable even if you could install it.
You need FCS2 -- at the upgrade price.
