Final Cut Studio 3 installation problem

Working on my Mac Pro 1,1 and I'm habing rouble re-installing Final Cut Studio 3 on it.
Here's the background: I've hesiated updating the OS beyond 10.5 so that I could keep using a legacy copy of ProTools LE. Recently, I decided to add a new hard drive to one of the open bays so that I could have a 10.7.5 startup disc for most applications, and I could simply rebppt in 10.5 when I need to. everything went smootly until I tried to re-install FCS-3.
The installation keeps hanging up whenever I try to install any components that need content (i.e. DVD Studio Pro, Sound Track, etc...). As a test, I did an install of just FCP (and default Compressor) and that seemed to be OK. Once installed, I thought I'd try to add one compnent at a time - so I started with DVD Studio Pro.
Just as had happed when I tried to do a full install, it failed. I got an error message that
"the installer encountered a problem and that I needed to contact the software manufacturer"
So far, I've tried with both DVD Studio Pro and Sound Track with the same result. It seems to go through the entire process of copying over files on the content disc before it fails. On the DVD-SP as soon as it ejects the one (and only) content disc, I get the error. On SoundTrack, it seems to take all the data from disc 1 (of 3) then it askes for disc 2. As soon as i put it in and it tries to read it, the the install fails and I get the same error as I listed above.
Anybody have am idea of what might be happening?
Thanks,
Steve

Have a look in disc utility and see how your drive is formatted.
It should be Mac OS extended.

• Final Cut Studio 2 installation hangs under Snow Leopard

I've since seen this on two machines and have filed a bug with Apple, but wanted to post to give people a heads up.
When attempting a new installation of Final Cut Studio 2 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6, the install hung with "about a minute remaining."
Examination of the running processes using "top" showed one thread spinning in user space using 100% of the CPU:

/Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg/Contents/Resources/ConfigureMim eTypes -rescan -verbose

Running the same thread by hand succeeded immediately, so manually killing the spinning process seemed to have no ill effects and allowed the installation to proceed as expected.
Just to be safe I manuallly ran

/Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg/Contents/Resources/ConfigureMim eTypes -rescan -verbose

again after disc 1 was finished installing but (obviously) while disc 1 was still in the drive.

Hello,
I fortunately came across this discussion. I want to install FCS2 on my iMac which is now running under Snow Leopard and I also got stuck at "about a minute" remaining time.
But it seems that the answer to solve this is give in an answer William has given. The only thing is, I don't get it what to do.
I typed in the word Top in Terminal I saw that it is indeed "hanging" on ConfigureMimeTypes. Through "show contents" I got to the ConfigureMimeTypes file (at least I think that is what I should do). But then...?
Another thought was, that I had to install the QuickTimeMpeg2Pro.Pkg. So I have tried that also. But then the same happens, it got stuck at "the remaining one minute issue".
Can someone please tell me what to do?
Please consider the fact that I'm not a very technical person and that english is not my native language.
Thanks a lot.
Kind regards,
Richard

• Final cut studio 2 installation stalled out

I just purchased my macbook pro and I am installing final cut studio 2 for the first time on it. It seems that the installation has stalled out on the first disc at the point where it says "finishing installation: running proappseffects installer script". Its been running proappseffects for over 2 hours now but there are no errors in the installer log. Anyone have any ideas?
Just so you know, I am installing an upgrade ser # and have never had the previous version on this laptop. I am assuming that this is not an issue but maybe I am wrong.
I may just start from the top...

I finally tried to quit the installer and it wouldn't let me. Then I tried to restart and as I was doing that it requested the next disc. So I guess I am good now.

• Final cut studio 2 upgrade problems

i recently purchased the upgrade from final cut studio to final cut studio 2. after entering the upgrade serial number it prompts me for the original serial number. after entering this in, it says number invalid. both copies are store bought and i have tried every variation of the numbers, ie. upper case lower case. i've tried calling the store from which i bought the products but they keep referring me to my installation manual.. please help!!!

There are two upgrade paths.
One from FCS1 and the other from individual applications.
The latter is more expensive.
Which did you buy and from what original purchase? If you got the wrong one, it won't upgrade.

• Final Cut Studio 2 installation

Upon installing Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade my harddrive crashed. I thought I had more room than I actually did. I just got a new hard drive and I want to install final cut studio 2 again. Do I have to reinstall all of my final cut studio 1 discs and then do my upgrade discs or can I just install the upgrade discs?
Also, I can't find my studio 1 discs and I've registered them, how do I replace them if I need to?

I found my serial # through my email because I registered it. However, upon installing the upgrade discs its telling me that the # is not valid. My email reads my serial # without any dash symbols. Do I need to have dashes? If so where are the suppose to go?

• Final Cut Studio 2 Installation issue

When I was installing Final Cut Studio 2, at the beginning of the install when it verifies if you system is compatible, I received the notice that Compression and Live Type would not load. My retailer tells me my system should handle FCS2 and I shouldn't be getting that message.
I also have FC Express pre-loaded on my system...could this be part of the issue?
Thanks in advance - creative type here and not a techie...

The computer was purchased in Sept. 2010. The OS is updated as per automatic notifications and this is the initial install of FC.
Thanks for the quick response.

• Final Cut Studio 2: Import Problem

Hello all,
I am new to these discussion boards, but have been having some troubles with my FCS2 software. I just had my computer serviced by Apple and it came back reformatted. So I install all of my FCS2 programs etc. and it seems now that none of my import features work. I have tried in both color and FCP, I can drag and drop clips but when I go to File>import on either program it does nothing...
If anyone knows what I could do it would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Nothing what so ever, its as if I didnt even click it. Before I had my computer re-formatted it only did it in color. Now it has happened to FCP6 as well... It isnt too big due to the fact I can drag and drop but at the same time its a tediouc hassle to have to give into with such an advanced program.

• Final Cut Studio 2 won't except my old serial number, what should I do?

Final Cut Studio 2 installation software reports invalid serial number when I enter my serial number from Final Cut Studio.
What am I doing wrong?
My Final Cut Studio is an upgrade from an older version of Final Cut. Can I upgrade an upgrade?
My computer is not connected to the internet, is this a problem?
Please HELP!

You don't need an internet connection to install Final Cut Studio.
You will be asked to register the software, but you don't have to do this. Although a reminder to register will pop up about every 4th or 5th time the software is opened.
When you use upgrade serial numbers, you usually get a warning that you need the number from a full licensed copy. Enter that and then the new serial that came with the upgrade.

• Opening Final Cut Studio 3 Projects on Mac Pro (Snow Leopard) & MacBook Pro (Lion)

Hi Everyone,
Right i've been trawling the forums in regards to Lion's compatibility with Final Cut Studio 3. There seemed to be a mixed bag of reports, some running FCP fine on Lion, others having issues.
For this reason alone I decided to keep my main editing system, my Mac Pro, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and not upgrade to Lion.
More and more frequently i've thought I need to get myself a MacBook Pro, for data wrangling on location and for some cheeky edit sessions when i'm away on jobs.
The thing is, all new MacBook Pros ship with Lion as their OS.
My question is twofold really. Firstly, I've read that Final Cut Studio 3 installs and runs fine on Lion systems, can anyone confirm this?
Secondly, do any of you know if i'll be able to swap between, and freely work on projects across the two different systems, namely a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro running Lion? is this an issue at all?
The last thing I want to do is spend three grand on a MacBook and then realise I have issues opening or working on projects from my MacPro (or vise-vesa)
As ever, your help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance,
Scott

I've read that Final Cut Studio 3 installs and runs fine on Lion systems, can anyone confirm this?
Yes, FCS 3 installs and runs without issue on my Lion system.
There are a couple of careats however with the primary one being DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF THE OS AND THE APPS. Upgrade installs over major version changes are problematic.
do any of you know if i'll be able to swap between, and freely work on projects across the two different systems, namely a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro running Lion? is this an issue at all?
Again, not an issue in my world.

• Final Cut Studio Installation problem HELP!

Hi
Ive just bought Final Cut Studio and have a laptop G4 and a new G5.
I previously had FCP 4.5 in the G4 and updated to 5.1 with Final cut studio.
Then I installed the Final Cut Studio on the G5. Initially I got an error message: "Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I continued installing the software which took around an hour to load all different parts of studio package.
I tried to open the various programs but when I entered the serial number I get a message "Licensing error, This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I get this error message even when I try to open Motion or DVD studio Pro which I didnt install on the G4.
The licence on FC studio states that the software can be used on 2 computers (one laptop and one standalone) but not at the same time.
So am I able to use the software on the G5?
Many thanks in advance

• Final Cut Studio install problems

Well I was thrilled to get Final Cut Studio 2, but cannot get the thing installed. Looking to do a 100% uninstall so I can start fresh
I have the following disks:
1. Final Cut Studio
2. DVD Studio
3. Livetype1
4. Livetype2
5. Motion
On my first install everything went as planned and it asked me for serial number. I made it thru the first disk with no problems, and the 2nd one installed for awhile, but suddenly stopped. A message popped up saying to put the Final Cut Studio disk back in. When I did that it failed. So I followed these steps:
Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Pro back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
Remove receipts and reinstall Final Cut Pro
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Pro. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Final Cut Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the "FinalCutPro.pkg" file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Pro" to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.
I started a fresh install, but noticed it never asked me again for my serial number. I was skeptical, but the installation went on and I made it all the way to the last disk, but when I put the Motion disk in the computer seemed to struggle to read the disk and eventually asked for the FCP disk to be put back in which resulted in another error.
I have tried several times since then to get this thing installed but keep failing. I worry about how it never asks me for a serial number. Are there some files that I am not deleting?
I have also tried to install one disk at a time and installing without Content.
Using a brand new Imac

Not sure if this is related but I've upgraded from FCS 1 to FCS 2 and all went well. I've now started to install all the various application media and Motion fails around 75% through the installation. I've tried to do a disk image of the disk but again that fails approx. 75% of the way through with the error "I/O error"
Tried the Soundtrack Pro media this morning and got through the first disk and again about 75% through disk 2 the installation failed.
Maybe Apple has bought a job lot of 'cheap' DVD's to save some money? I'll pop into an Apple store and see what they have to say!

• Final Cut Studio upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 problem

I am trying to upgrade my G5 from Final Cut Studio to Final Cut Studio 2, I have the key for the upgrade, but it is asking for the serial key of the original Final Cut. I have it, but it still won't accept, says it is an invalid serial number. I bought my "turn-key" system from B&H photovideo and had no problems with the system or programs until this. I cannot understand what is going on. I have a previously used Final Cut Studio 2 software. All materials are here, and the key seems good, I just can't get the installer to recognize my original copy. Any suggestions?

Call Apple.

• Final Cut Studio 2 Apple Loops, Jam Packs and Logic express 8 installation?

Hi(Bonjour)!
I've currently use Final Cut Studio 2 +Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2+ application with all included Apple Loops.
I own several Jam Pack Apple Loops packages (with a less than impressive integration with Garage Band for older one).
I purchased Logic Express 8 pro today.
Is there more Apple Loops files included with Logic express 8 than with Soundtrack Pro 2?
What is the best way to install Logic express 8 Apple Loops to avoid duplicate loops files?
Thank You.
Michel Boissonneault

Well, the installation was very simple, no duplicate files and tight integration of GarageBand loops and JamPacks.
