Final Cut Studio 3 & Logic Studio 2 order of installation

Greetings Apple Discussions:
About to install the latest versions of Final Cut Studio 3 and Logic Studio 2 on a Mac Pro (2009) 1TB HD. Which one should be installed first?
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you.

Thanks for your information Edgar:
I recalled Final Cut Studio 2 and Logic Studio 1 having this problem. Thats why I asked if it persisted in Final Cut Studio 3 and logic Studio 2.
Here is the link to the problem in the previous versions.
http://www.zoom-in.com/blog/film-tv/todd-howard/problem-solution-installing-fina l-cut-studio-2-after-logic-studio
Now that you have confirmed it has occurred in the latest versions I will check for the problem file in:
/Library/Receipts/ProMediaIO.pkg
Hey Bill, which Suite did you install first?
Maybe I should install Logic Studio First?

  • Final Cut Studio and Flash Macromedia 8

    Hello everybody,
I would like to know if I can export swf files from Flash 8 (For MAC) to Final Cut Studio in order to convert them to Video files such as *.avi, *.mpg and to modify them. On Flash we can publish a flash file as quicktime file, but several effects included in Flash 8 are not available. We can to export it as AVI, but just from Windows, from Mac is not available, anybody knows why?
    For this reason, I have:
    1) to publish a flash file as SWF
    2) to convert the file from SWF to AVI (with a program like Magic SWF2AVI (from Windows))
    3) and it will be ready to work with it on Mac with Final Cut Studio.
If anybody knows how can I simplify it? and how can I work with Final cut from a Flash file using just a MAC?
    Thanks a lot!

Yes. It is possible for you to create a *.avi if you have the source *.fla file. In Flash File menu > Export > Export Movie and in that you can choose avi, move, jpg sequence or anything like that. You need to ensure the *.fla file is created with right settings interms of Frames per second etc that is relevant to the settings you need it in FCP. Guess that is what you wanted !!!

  • ARD: Deploy Final Cut Studio

Relative newbie to ARD. I have to deploy Final Cut Studio to 17 iMacs in a lab that already are in production. I would have expected to find more information available on how to accomplish this task, especially with this software since it is Apple software.
I cannot seem to find anything definitive that explains if this is possible or that can be used as a guide to doing so.
Anyone care to share any pointers? Links? How Tos?

    Hello,
A no go there my friend, because Final Cut studio is multi-disc installer and requiring the serial number during the install.
The best thing you could do is to make a disk images of Final Cut, then push them over the network with ARD to the iMac's & then run the installer manually on each via screen sharing. When your done use ARD to send a task to delete the images of the iMac's.
    Hope this help's!

  • Final Cut Studio & Logic Studio upgrade issue

I am mainly audio based but have been working on projects more recently with Final Cut Studio 2 to deal with the video. As I use both Logic Studio 8 and Soundtrack Pro 2 a lot, and Final Cut Pro less, I plumped for the upgrade to Logic Studio which also contains STP 3 and Compressor 3.5 which seemed the right thing to do.
However the install info and dvd doesn't want you to install STP 3 or Compressor 3.5 if you have Final Cut Studio 2 as they "contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Personally I didn't want to run to the expense of upgrading Final Cut as I don't use Motion, Colour or Cinema Tools and although I am working heavily in DVD Studio Pro they haven't done anything to upgrade that application (boo!)
So what's the deal? Am I unable to upgrade ST Pro to version 3 and also unable to benefit from the upgraded Compressor even though I've actually paid for an upgrade that promised me these options, and no mention until I'd opened the package that there would be any incompatibility issues with Final Cut Studio 2!
Anyone know what these 'incompatible components' are?
Sounds like sharp practice and bad product integration to me...

I just spoke with someone in Apple Reseller Channel Sales and he told me that what is shipping now is strictly the Universal version. So, if you order a Final Cut Studio Upgrade from FCP HD ($699 retail, IIRC), you will receive the FCS Universal version in the big box with all the docs.

  • Final cut Studio 2 - how much a no-go with logic 9?

I have the new Logic 9 upgrade but I see in the installation notes that the new compressor 3.5 and Soundtrack Pro 3 Is "incompatible" with Final cut studio 2.
Now I also run Finalcut studio 2 apps regularly but I hadn't planned on upgrading just yet but I certainly want to see soundtrack pro 3 (so many bugs in v2!!).
Does anyone know what will happen if I install STP and compressor from logic 9 regardless? How incompatible is incompatible?

My experience with logic9 and FCS 2...
I've installed the full package of Logic 9 regardless of the incompatibility problems (yes, brave, I know:-)
You are indeed "allowed" to do this - you just click a sort of "do it anyway" button.
So far I have launched existing projects and done basic edit cuts in FCP with no problems. I've edited for a day so I feel happy to conclude that basic editing in FCP is not broken.
I have exported ref. and self-contained movies via quicktime conversion so thats not broken.
I have exported XML files from FCP to Logic 9, thats not broken.
Soundtrack v3 launches, plays audio and appears to be ok after about 15mins of me testing - by no means conclusive testing.
I've used logic for a day and it seems just dandy.
I have not used colour, compressor or motion.
Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else is facing the same dilemma as I was.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Apple Loops, Jam Packs and Logic express 8 installation?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I've currently use Final Cut Studio 2 +Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2+ application with all included Apple Loops.
I own several Jam Pack Apple Loops packages (with a less than impressive integration with Garage Band for older one).
I purchased Logic Express 8 pro today.
Is there more Apple Loops files included with Logic express 8 than with Soundtrack Pro 2?
What is the best way to install Logic express 8 Apple Loops to avoid duplicate loops files?
    Thank You.
    Michel Boissonneault

Well, the installation was very simple, no duplicate files and tight integration of GarageBand loops and JamPacks.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and Logic Studio on MacBook

I have a white MacBook bought in late 2008. It has a 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor w/ 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
My question is: has anyone run Final Cut Studio 2 and/or Logic Pro with these specs? And how was it?
I was told performance would be weak. I was also told nothing could be done to improve the performance other than buy a MacPro or at the very least get a MacBookPro. I have no reason NOT to believe this but I am interested in a second opinion.

    Hi there,
Ignore the other posts, both run absolutely fine on a macbook! I use final cut studio 2 on a white macbook and so do about 10 of my friends almost without problem. Final cut works perfectly, dvd sp works perfectly, motion works perfectly, soundtrackpro works perfectly! the only problem i ever had was rendering with 'color', none of my other friends grade their videos so they have no problems at all. Are you going to do any grading?
I believe the macbook is not officially supported though, so I don't think you'll be able to get help from apple if there's any problem solving to be done. I've been using FCP and FCS for years now though and have honestly never had a problem I couldn't solve myself
Logic also runs amazingly well too.
    hope that helps

  • Installing and Using Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio 2 On the Same iMac

In March of this year, I switched from being a long-time user of PC's to a 24 in. 2.4 GHZ iMac. In late May I purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and Aperture and have greatly enjoyed using both of these applications on my iMac. Both run with no problems under Leopard which I installed shortly after it came out. I am now considering the purchase of Logic Studio since I have enjoyed midi sequencing and audio editing for years on my PC's but wish now to do this on my iMac.
I note that two of the applications included in Logic Studio (Soundtrack Pro 2 and Compressor 3) are a part of the Final Cut Studio 2 suite of programs that I already have installed on my iMac. How will Logic Studio handle this issue when I run the install of that software, i.e. will it be aware that I already have Soundtrack Pro 2 and Compressor 3 and just have those install options grayed out or will it overwrite my FCS2 installation of those two applications? Are there other issues or conflicts between Aperture or Final Cut Studio 2 applications and Logic Studio that I should know before installing Logic Studio?
Thank you very much in advance for responding, and I look forward to reading this forum from this point onward.
    Tom

Thanks again for your prompt responses, blayzay. I look forward to getting and installing Logic Studio. If anyone has any precautions on using it with FCS2 or with Leopard, please add a comment to this thread.

  • Logic Studio 2 and Final Cut Studio 2...will they play ball?

I just bought Logic Pro Studio2 and it will not allow me to install STP3 and Compressor 3.5 because of my current copy of FCP Studio 2 that is installed onto the same machine.
What is the work around for this? It would be nice to be able to use the newer software. Could I just uninstall STP2 and Compressor 3 and then attempt the install again with Logic Studio 2 and let it do its thing?
    Thanks guys in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Final Cut Studio is a suite of applications for many video-related tasks. The video editing component of FCS is Final Cut Pro. The main differences between Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express are FCP's ability to handle natively many different types of media (particular HD) and its media manager and color correction tools.
Final Cut Express is functionally similar to FCP, but works with a limited range of video formats, resolutions, etc. Working in FCE is excellent preparation for an eventual move to FCP if your needs grow, but many people find that FCE fulfills their needs at a fraction of the price.

  • Order status of final cut studio universal version?

My friend placed order final cut studio last monday (March,27)in stead of me.
My question is that is it comming universal version or not becasue he does not know about anything final cut.
also I cannot contact him right now.
So, if it comes final cut 5.0, i have to return and reorder. because I placed order macbook pro.
would tell your order experience and when apple released the last version of final cut studio?
    POWER MAC 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well, you probably should have waited. I believe the Universal Version was realeased for shipping on the 29th.(I ordered the upgrade myself). It is my understanding that If you ordered it before the release date you will get the old version(runs on PowerPC macs only). I your friend gets the wrong one, I would suggest not opening it and return it for an exchange.

  • Audio Content 1,2,3 Logic/Final Cut Studio

    Hello.
Do I have to install both Audio Contents 1,2,3 from Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio ???
or the content from these three DVDs is perfectly the same???
    LOW DISK SPACE HERE...
    Thanks

It's easy... just boot from your OS CD, and choose erase and install from the optional installs button once booted. Run Software update a few times until there is no more to update... This will erase the hard drive and install a new OS on it.
    Install whatever.
To boot from this drive, hold down the option key during a startup , and you can pick it from the dialog box that opens. To reboot just select the other drive in the startup disk pref in Apple System prefs.

  • Exporting scoring markers in Final Cut Studio and importing to Logic Pro

I want to export my scoring markers with the movie in Final Cut Studio and see them as markers in Logic Pro 7.2.x. I need to use the markers as "hit points" to calculate my tempos and effectively lay out my score based upon the action in the picture. I'm exporting the Final Cut Studio project to a Quicktime movie and choosing audio and video + "scoring markers". Thanks for your help.
    TG

Don't bother rendering a movie out of LiveType, simply save the project file and import it into FCP.
LiveType outputs in the Animation codec only, so you will always have to render. Using the project file has another advantage -right clicking and choosing "Open in Editor" will drop you back into LiveType where you can quickly make adjustments, save and return to FCP with the changes in place.
To set project properties, you can use the Place Background Movie function in LiveType. Drop a short clip in and it will automatically adjust the properties to match. You can delete it once you have the settings. If you have Anamorphic video, you will still need to adjust the pixel aspect ratio -exact settings depend on the format, you haven't told us that yet.
Again, depending on the format, you might have to set the Anamorphic flag in FCP's Item Properties for the LiveType file.
When you view the FCP export in QuickTime Player 7 (not QuickTime Player X) make sure that the High Quality Playback preference is selected.
    Typefaces in video:
Avoid using small, thin, delicate and Serif typefaces. They never work well.
A well known example of a Serif font is Times, which you should avoid at all costs in any case -it makes it look like you made the titles in MS Word. Stick with San Serifs with clear, bold strokes. Helvetica is a popular example of a San Serif.
If your titles are white, reduce the brightness to around 90%. Apply a shadow or border to distinguish them from the background. While it might sound counter productive, applying a tiny amount of blur can help too.
One more thing: Don't put your email address in the body of your post. The forums are open to anyone who wants to read them and by extension, web bots. They will harvest the address and bombard it with spam. We don't do personal email on the forums anyway -we share information amongst all users.

  • Pro App Serial Problem - Final Cut Studio Logic Studio and Soundtrack

    Installed Logic Studio 8
    then
Installed Final Cut Studio - Academic
    both include Soundtrack.
now Soundtrack has the academic splash screen.
If i wanted to... how can i assign soundtrack to my logic studio serial?
would i have to reinstall soundtrack? is there any situation where this would matter?
    i don't know.
    thanks everyone.

If i wanted to... how can i assign soundtrack to my logic studio serial?

I wouldn't worry about it. The program is exactly the same whether it thinks it's an academic version or not, and I can't think of any other reason why this would make any difference.
If you really wanted to see whether you could get it connected back to Logic, go to HD/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps, and dump the file that says 'Logic Studio System ID.' This is the file that holds your Logic serial number. Next time you load Logic, put your serial number in again and it will create a new Logic Studio System ID file. When you do this it will make the Logic System ID file newer than the FC System ID file, and maybe Soundtrack will be connected to this one instead of FC's. But again, don't worry about it - it really makes no difference at all.

  • In Thailand and thinking about ordering Final Cut Studio 5.1 NEED ADVICE

I own a 2006 Power Book G4 notebook. The computer has a 1.5 GHz processor, 1.25 GBDDR SDRAM memory, and 80GB HD. I have enjoyed using iMovie but am ready to give my podcasts a more profesional look. Can my computer operate Final Cut Studio 5.1? If it can not is there an older version that would work?
    Thanks you,

    Power Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   processor 1.5 GHz memory 1.25 hardrive 80GB

your powerbook may not be the latest and greatest but it is certainly good enough. version 5.1 is "universal" meaning it will work on both PPC macs (like yours) and the newer intel based macs. go for it.
