  • Final Cut Studio 3 on a 2010 Mac Mini?

Hi, I've searched the web high and low and can't find an answer to my question. Can the new Mac Mini dual 2.4 run Final Cut Studio 3? My main concern is the graphics card which SHARES 256mb ddr3 sdram. The Final Cut Studio 3 page says the hardware should be at least 128MB Vram. Is the shared 256MB SDram seen as "V"ram by Final Cut Studio?
If I'm reading the specs right the only thing the Mac Mini can't do is 4k & DPX rendering which requires 512MB Vram in Color (and I'm sure other intensive tasks would crawl).
Of course we would all like a Mac Pro, but my budget is tight.
Thank you so much for any feed back.

What do you mean by "Forget Color, forget Motion. There is no way to properly monitor what you are doing.
COLOR: I mean that to properly use COLOR you need a separate capture or video input/output device. One designed for video. Color will not send out a video signal via the HDMI port. That is, in essence, just another video out option...a video signal, via an HDMI port. So that you can connect the mini to an HDTV. But, it will mirror the desktop, send out an RGB signal, not a proper YUV video signal. For Color, you need proper monitoring. But you don't need to use Color...just saying.
and extended desktop is possible across the two for dual monitors, correct?
Yes, dual COMPUTER DISPLAYS...not proper video monitoring.
    Color only requires 1680x1050)
For workspace...to use the interface. But to get a proper video signal you need a professional IO device. None works with the Mini. Well, there is the AJA IOHD, but that doesn't work with Color (firewire issue).
MOTION: Well, it might work. I just know that on the Mini I have it is a dog to work with. So I skip it. Let the kids edit on the BIG TV...they have fun with that.

  • Final Cut Studio Only?

i found STP to be the wave editor i've always been waiting for. the workflow is amazing. i haven't touched Peak in 6 months. i'm scripting custom batches for myself and others. it's been a dream come true. now it's essentially gone. if i want it i will have to purchase Final Cut Studio. yes, it's a great deal but i have ZERO use for anything other than STP. this is disappointing. i guess no other non-video using musicians or sound designers bought STP standalone? it's a real shame because Apple could have had a class-killer app in the wave editor market. guess it's back to Peak for me and my clients. gross.

because i've moved to Intel processors and in order to use STP on them i have to upgrade to the entire Final Cut Studio. granted it is a great deal at $199 but i just don't want it. i'm not a video guy. STP is thee best waveform editor ever to hit the Mac and it's just a drag that Apple doesn't want audio people to use it. they really could have a killer app situation with STP and audio folks. the only real competition is Peak which i used for many years and dropped it like a disease as soon as STP came along. the AppleScript support, the amazing workflow, the whole thing just rules. but now i have to purchase a video production suite to use it. if they targeted this thing at audio people they would have had a huge user base. it's an incredibly useful, powerful and easy-to-use editor. not to mention the multitrack arranging capabilities. it's a real bad@ss.

  • Will Final Cut Studio 1 run on new silver imacs running leopard?

looking for advice or answers to this dilemma of mine...
i've got a client who needs to run final cut pro 5(client owns intel upgraded version) using basic cutting features almost as an off-line editor to send his edit files and media to me to on-line edit. have been looking at used imac and have found a g5 imac but it seems too expensive compared to the price of the new imacs.
so my question.. is anyone out there running final cut studio 1 (FCP 5 et. al.) successfully on an intel machine using the leopard OS (ideally new gen. imac)? or should i bite the bullet and buy the used g5 imac at a ridiculously inflated price?
    thanks in advance,
    grant

I have a Quad G5 and an 8core 3ghz, both running FSC2 side by side. G5 is a FCS upgrade to FCS2 with the 8 core a brand new FCS2. The G5 still rocks, I have set renders going of the same HD edit and the 8 core wins by a tiny margin. The G5 has no problems but the 8 core fell apart with the 2.01 update. Compressor problems!
I thought about selling the G5 and buying another Intel but it hasn't let me down once in 18 months so I'm keeping it.

  • Upgrading to Final Cut Studio, but on a different Mac

    OK, here's my dilemma...
I have an 867Mhz PowerPC Quicksilver G4 Power Mac with 512mb SDRAM and I'm running Final Cut Pro HD, version 4.5, on Tiger.
I also have a 1.5Ghz PowerPC G4 Powerbook with 1GB SDRAM and I'm running Final Cut Express, version 2.0.3, on Tiger.
Now, I'd love to own the Final Cut Studio and I've seen the Crossgrade Upgrade option. My question is, as my PowerMac is quite up to scratch with regards to being able to run FCS comfortably, can I apply for the upgrade and then install FCS on my Powerbook instead?
I'd love to hear that I can do this but I don't believe I'll be able to do it. Can I? You help and guidance, as usual, is very much appreciated. Cheers

I do not see why not. The install on the powermac may request the old serial number from the version on the G4. Technically I do not think the license agreement allows you to then run both the upgrade on the Powerbook and 4.5 on the G4 at the same time. That is between you and your higher power.
And as the other poster indicated, once you upgrade you will no longer have your 4.5 install disks. You will have a new set of 5.1 install disks.

  • Is there any way I can install and operate Final Cut Pro 5 on an Intel Mac with a Mac OS Lion 10.7.3?

From an online survey I'm pessimistic.

Final Cut studio  sold on Ebay is an installation set of discs.
The only thing that is ever downloaded relating to final cut are incremental updates direct from Apple via Software Update in the Apple menu.

  • "Clean Unintall" or Final Cut Studio 2, running on Snow Leopard ?????

    Hey Folks:
I am a newbie to Final Cut Studio 2 and have had some major problems. I run the latest version of Snow Leopard and was able to install FC Studio 2 with no problems. I have a JVC BR-HD50 deck and took some test footage this week. Finding out how to log and capture JVC 24p was a task in and of it's self, but I get it to run and captured some footage into FC Studio 2.
Now the problem, Final Cut Studio stopped letting me log and capture. I tried to wipe and reinstall the software 4 times in the last 2 days and can't get rid of it completely. I used "FCS Remover" by Digital Rebellion, reloaded the FCP disks and still; still had old registration info appear when I rebooted.
I tried Apple's "Final Cut Assistant 1.0.6" the second time to wipe out user prefs, everything in fact - then reloaded all the FCP Studio disks and again the registration info is the still the old one (I misspelled my name so I see this each time I launch the application) and importing from the JVC deck is now not working correctly. I trashed all the FCP scratch files, ran all the utilities, scanned for anything on my drives that might be old pref files. Still on the forth reload of the DVD's the same registration name comes up. I can't log and capture, (I have it set to the correct import prefs for my deck)
Three xanax later, 48 hours without sleep; still have a app that won't run, I am at my wits end.
Anyone know how to totally wipe FC Studio 2 so I can get a "clean" start?
Thank you for your help in advance! (Rehab is in my near future)

    [FCS Remover|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm]
    [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm]
    Deleting FCP Preferences manually:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.

  • HT3866 How to locate original serial to Final Cut Studio, only have upgrade serial.

When rebuilding my system, Final Cut Studio lost serials, Soundtrack Pro asked for serial, I entered what came with my upgrade box set. It then said I needed to enter the original serial, which I no longer have. Any thoughts on how to obtain this? Big thanks.

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1 on Intel Mac Pro

    Hi,
I have been running successfully Final Cut Pro 5.1 on my intel Mac Pro.
Suddenly it stopped working. While opening, it suddenly quit. Tried to fully uninstall Final Cut following Apple HOWTO and reinstall. Unfortunately, Final Cut is still not working.
I have read lots a various messages and no-one seems to have a 100% success rate.
    Anyone has a suggestion?
    Cheers
    Ben

someone posted something on Craigslist about the intel Macs and he said that the intel just freezes up with FCP and some other programs
Older versions of FCP do NOT run well on IntelMacs because they were written to run on PPC chipped Macs only. Probably the situation you read about on Craigslist. The OP here is running the universal version of FCP so that shouldn't be an issue in this case.

  • Can I not install Final Cut Studio 2 on my new Mac Mini?

I just purchased a new Mac Mini - it's time to retire my G5 Power Mac.
FCS 2.0 is unverisal - so why can I not loan the software..???

I am having a major problem, I have an old mac purchased 7 years ago and my hard drive got problems but is still working, I got a new mac having OS X system, I have final cut pro 6 and I installed it on the new os X but it didn't work, I also used the conversion method mentioned on the net in order to work on final cut pro x because final cut pro 6 is not supported on OS X, with the conversion the final cut pro X was only able to read the original tapes but was not able to read the edited material, am really stuck and I need help, can someone recommend a helpful solution? when i went to mac technical support office they said that for old macs we can only offer to change the hard drive and RAM and replacing the old hard drive for OS with a new hard drive does not gaurantee that final cut pro 6 will work also, and if something later on doesn't work in the old mac OS we can not fix it or replace it because apple does not provide any other spare parts besides the RAM and hard drive.

  • Final Cut Pro 3 on an Intel Mac?

I just got a Macbook Pro, and I was wondering what is the first edition of Final Cut Pro that will work on an Intel based mac........I have version 3 and I am afraid to install it if it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx
    Jefe

Sorry...true...it was a sweet deal for those who owned any version of the separate FCS software.
If you buy a brand spankin new Mac...one with a COMPLETELY different processor (Intel vs PPC) and an OS that has seen 4 major upgrades (FCP 3 came out when OS 10.0 was released, and here we are on the cusp of 10.5)...expecting really old software to work on said system would be a stretch.
And $700 for software that includes FCP, DVD SP, Motion 3, Soundtrack, Livetype, Cinema Tools, and $25,000 color correction solftware (Color)...that is a SCREAMING deal.
Too much? Always Final Cut Express...

  • Final Cut Studio 2 on an Intel Duo Core 2 iMac?

Can FCS 2 efficiently run on an Intel Duo Core 2 iMac? Should I invest in a Mac Pro? Thanks for any advice.

On the contrary. I've been using a 20" iMac since June of 2007 and it has performed very well on a number of projects, including an hour-long documentary, a 1 1/2 hour concert, and multiple smaller projects.
That isn't to say that a Mac Pro isn't better. Often times it's the budget that makes people lean towards an iMac. Keep in mind, 540, that an iMac isn't expandable, and that's the thing to consider. You can't add more ram and you can't install a capture card for working with HD footage.
If none of that matters to you, then the iMac will do just fine.
    jesse.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 on iMac to be purchased

I am a first-time computer buyer, so I'm trying to make sure this purchase is going to be worth it. I'm looking to purchase the iMac off the shelf, but I'm uncertain if I need extra accessories to make Final Cut Studio 2 run. The Mac says it has "ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro Graphics processor with 256 MV of GDDR3 memory," and the software requirements say it needs, "An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)." Will I be required to buy a separate graphics card, or will the computer support it as is? If I need additional hardware, what specifically do I need?

I can offer a different perspective about a MAC for video editing. I used to believe that a Tower MAC was the only option for various video formats but since the landscape for current video cameras have changed, I now rely almost exclusively on a MacBook Pro.
The MBP has several advantages for attaching various adapters for competent video chores. The Express 34 slot can access two 7200 rpm SATA drives that can be RAID 0 and the MBP has Firewire 400-800 and USB 2.0 connections.
Since I use a P2 camera, I have capability of using FW connection to download clips or use a Express 34 (PCMCIA-EXP34) adapter for P2 capture. If you are using a DV camera you can capture from Firewire and capture to either FW 800 drive or the eSATA drives. You could even connect an MX0/MX02 to the Firewire for color correction.
Finally, you can utiize a 23" or even a 30" Cinema Display thru the DVI port as the current MBP's have great video cards.

  • Final Cut Studio 1 on a new imac

    Hey everyone,
I would appreciate any help I can get on this topic. I am about to purchase a new iMac and I currently have Final Cut Studio 1. I understand that the software was designed with the g4/g5 processor in mind. The new iMacs use intel core processors if I'm not mistaken and I'm wondering if I'll be able to install Final Cut Studio 1 onto my new mac or if I'll have to purchase FCS2?

    Ian R. Brown wrote:
Are you sure? I thought FCS 1 was a Universal Binary designed for G4 and 5's together with Intel.
There are two versions of FCS 1 - 1.0 and 1.1. Only 1.1 (FCP 5.1.x) is the Universal Binary. As the OP said he knew it was designed for PPC, we assumed that he was talking about the 1.0 version (FCP 5.0.x).

  • Macbook 2.0 and Final Cut Studio?

I need a notebook computer for traveling as supplement to my G5 dual 2.5 G5.
I would like to just go for a Macbook. It looks to be a snazzy computer at a very good price. But I've heard that the graphic card is not really sufficient for Pro applications.
So my question is: Can Final Cut Studio be run succsessfully on a Macbook 2.0 GHz with 2 GB of RAM?
    Dual 2.5, 4.5 GB RAM, 30" Cinema Display,   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

While the other responses are correct in that you will see somewhat better performance with a MBP, I have to tell you that the MacBook can run FCS perfectly well. I own both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro and I am running FinalCut Studio on both. The performance gains on the MacBook Pro are very marginal, and I would not consider them enough to justify the higher pricetag. Now for a more graphics-intense app like Motion, or Shake, yes, the Pro will be required. But for your situation, wanting to make some edits and do some work in FCS on the road, the MacBook will be fine. I would suggest a RAM upgrade to at least 1 gig, and optimally 2 gigs. Good Luck!
