FINAL CUT STUDIO APPS. WONT ALLOW UPDATE
HI,
I HAVE FINAL CUT STUDIO 5.0 INSTALLED IN MY MAC PRO. I DOWNLOADED ALL UPDATES (FINAL CUT 5.1.2, ETC) WHEN I GO TO INSTALL, IT SAYS IT CANT FIND ANY PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF FINAL CUT INSTALLED , EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE RIGHT THERE IN MY APPLICATION FOLDER....
ANY IDEAS

the upgrade from 5.0.x to 5.1 is not a downloadable upgrade. Search the forum for "cross-grade."

Can't launch ANY of the Final Cut Studio apps
As some of you may have seen, when I was reinstalling all of my old software, I couldn't go to FCP 6.0.4. So I uninstalled Final Cut Studio and got rid of everything the Final cut studio uninstaller didn't get rid of (live type data, etc)
Then I updated to 10.5.5
Then I reinstalled Final Cut Studio and ran software update. Everything updated fine and then I went to launch the programs for the first time and ALL of them say they unexpectedly quit. Should I have launched them once before updating? I DO have all the up-to-date versions this time, but I can't open any of them. I'd hate to have to reinstall all this AGAIN as it takes forever to do so.
Anyone know how to fix this?No, I know that. Sorry I didn't mention it here.
This is what the console is telling me. I had used the Final Cut Studio uninstaller before reinstalling. My copy is an upgrade version, but everything installed and updated OK. They just won't launch

Does Final Cut Server include Final Cut Studio Apps?

My laptop Final Cut Studio won't allow me access.
I have a fully licensed Final Cut Studio including an upgrade for a few years now. It's installed on my PC and Laptop. This morning for some reason the version on my laptop is asking for a serial number before allowing me access. But even when I enter it it rejects it as invalid! How do I access it?
are you sure you're entering the correct serial number and entering it correctly?
Is this an upgrade or a full install? If an upgrade, it may be looking for the original serial number rather than the upgrade number.
If I remember correctly (and I may not be) the serial numbers are in groups of three and each group is either numbers or letters not a mix.
Also, you might want to do the normal troubleshooting steps like repairing permissions, running disk repair on all drives (particularly your startup drive which you'll have to do after booting from your os install disk or another bootable drive), run diskwarrior (if you have it) on your startup drive and deleting fcp preferences -
How to uninstall extra Final Cut Studio apps?
I just purchased a MacBook Pro with a 160 GB hard drive, and installed all of Final Cut Studio on it. I knew the installation took up a lot of space, but sheesh, I'm only left with about 45 GB of space, certainly not enough for me to be comfortable! At any rate, I am now interested in removing Studio apps that I don't use as often to save hard drive space. Do I have to completely uninstall the entire suite, or can I selectively uninstall? What is the process?

Final Cut Studio 2: needing to update older version before install
I am trying to install FCS 2 upgrade from FCS, but it tells me I have an older version and that it "needs to be updated" before I can continue. The manual says that "To avoid compatibility issues, the Final Cut Studio installer requires you to update all Final Cut Studio applications to the version included with Final Cut Studio 2." I am not sure what this means, since I am just now installing FCS 2. I've read the messages here about upgrading from FCP 5.0.4, my FCP version, to 5.1 via a crossgrade on disks from Apple. Does this mean that I need to buy this crossgrade before I can finish the upgrade to FCS 2? This requirement is not listed on the FCS 2 box, but I can't seem to find anything else that would "update" my older version. And is this true for each of the other applications in the suite?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.No, you don't need to buy the crossgrade. I just updated the PPC version of FCS to FCS2 yesterday. (I had transferred these applications over to my new Intel Mac from a G5 even though I knew they wouldn't run on the Intel Mac until I could update with the Universal version). What I did end up having to do was to manually delete everything from the PPC installation (applications, preferences, application support files, etc.). Then install from the FCP2 disks, having your old FCP registration number ready to enter in the dialogue box that comes up when you try to upgrade. While the installer says you are upgrading, in fact it installs the new universal versions of the applications.

Final Cut Studio - no access to Updates..

I installed my copy of Final Cut Studio it runs well (except Motion2) but if I try to upgrade it to the latest FCS 1 version of the software the installer on the website asks me for my Apple ID - but I dont know which one I used for installing my company software - it's for sure not my personal Apple ID.
so how can I get info about the company Apple ID name that i might have used whe installing it originally?
please let me know - I still have to use FCP 5.0.1 - and there is a software update available even for FInal Cut Studio (not the 2nd version of it)

You enter that first to get access.
Then you need your Final Cut Studio number to download.

just bought Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3. I had bought FCP years ago and the continual upgrades
until it was named Final Cut Studio. I'm guessing this was 2005 or so. Anyhow, I used to have
all those other applications, Compressor, Motion, LiveType, Soundtrack, maybe others in that
package.
I never really mastered the program and resorted to iMovie HD in a pinch.
I'm already having some hardware issues with this new version, but it looks like something I'll
be able to learn.
Are those other programs "under the hood" of the new FCPX or bought seperately? Upgrades
from my old versions? Are they even necessary?
I have an interest in trying to create a DVD with surround sound.
james in St. PeteAll the the applications that came with studio are not available with FCPX. But you don't need them if you plan to create a DVD with surround sound. FCPX has surround mixing. I don't know how good it is since I don't use FCP X but it looks like it will do all the basics. Take a look here:

Final Cut Studio apps not opening on your Intel Mac - Universal Prokit?
Motion and other Final Cut Studio applications stopped opening on my Intel iMac, and the problem was that the Prokit.framework file wasn't universal binary. I did some Google-ing and found this topic regarding the universal Prokit.framework file.

My research has led me to conclude that the "troublesome" installations seem to have been to Lion in its early (10.7 - 10.7.2) days and then corruption was introduced by the upgrade to 10.7.3 and beyond. Since I do not own or have access to a copy of FCS2, there is no way I can attempt to interpret his suggestions and see if they can be translated to a step-by-step instruction process for OPs such as Dirks.
I have asked Jeremy to provide this step-by-step instruction set, but after an initial response from him, I have not heard from him in quite a while now. A assume that he is a busy guy...
Since you do have access to FCS2 and seem genuinely interested in helping out, perhaps you could review Jeremy's blog on this subject and see if you can reduce it to a step-by-step instruction set:

Final Cut Studio Crossgrade - Best method for upgrade?

I've received my new Final Cut Studio crossgrade disks after surrendering my old ones to Apple and paying my £40 plus p&p (seems a bit antiquated doesn't it) and now I'm wondering how to go about installing.
I suppose ideally I would start again with a fresh OSX install and then install all the new Final Cut Studio apps on a 'clean' system. However, if I decide I am too lazy to do this (as fun as it sounds, my system is running fine otherwise so it would be a bit of a pain) is there a way of clearing off my old FCS apps cleanly, to allow me to install the new ones without any performance compromises / potential conflicts / unused files lying about on my system disk (or is this going to leave loads of hidden files that might cause crashes etc.?
I would appreciate advice from anyone who has tried their method and is certain it definitely works!

BUT, few of us can afford the time or energy to rebuild all the apps folder, etc. Personally, I simply installed it directly on top of all existing apps, after making a system drive clone. Worked perfectly, I saw no problems after crossgrading.

Final Cut Studio 3 with 10.6.5+
Hello everyone,
A while back when 10.6.5 was released, I installed the update and since then my Final Cut has not been showing the colours properly in the viewer and timeline. Everything is like 5 stops under exposed and contrasty to the original footage. It plays fine in Quicktime 7 & X. But as soon as it hit's any of the the Final Cut Studio application, the rushes are way underexposed and are really contrasty. (I've posted some images below.)
Every time Apple brought out a new OS update I installed it to see if they had fixed this but I have had no luck to this date with 10.6.7. So what I've been doing is downgrading to 10.6.4 where Final Cut runs fine.
I'm running a MacPro Nehalem 2009 (4 core) and Final Cut Studio 3 on the latest update.
If anyone is able to help me with this problem then that would be fantastic!!!

Image above is an exported version of the clip from Final Cut with 10.6.4.This is indeed a weird issue.
The thing is now that I turned my mac off and came back to it, I played around with the display profiles (in system preferences) and went back to the original profile. It then suddenly fixed the gamma issue to how it should be in FCP7.
I'm not understanding to how it's fixed itself as it doesn't make sense to why it played correctly in quicktime but not in the Final Cut Studio Apps, but I'm very happy indeed, saving me time to downgrade again. I can also explore the MacAppStore...
What do you recommend as the best display profile to select in the System Preferences?

2. Use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone your internal hard drive.
3. Use the Installation disks that came wiith your computer to Erase and Install Mac OS X on your internal hard drive. Use Software Update to get your copy of Mac OS to the latest version.
4. Repair Permissions.
5. Install Final Cut Studio. Use Software Update to get your copy of Final Cut Studio to the latest version.
6. Repair Permissions.
7. Use the cloned hard drive to restore the contents of your Home folder -do not copy the contents of your Library folder, only the folder "Mail" should be copied from there to your new Home/Library folder. -

I have an academic version of Final Cut Studio on my laptop and recently purchased the most recent Full version of Final Cut Studio. Do I need to uninstall the academic version before installing the new version? I ask because this is not an upgrade, but a completely new version.
