Final Cut Studio Installation Problems

Firstly, the specs: 2.8ghz 8-core Mac Pro, 2GB RAM, nVidia 8800GT, 10.5.2
The problem: I am installing FCS1 for the first time ever and am having difficulties installing some parts of it before the Mac Pro reboots on its own. Sometimes I'll finish a disc, sometimes I'll finish installing the program and I have to install the content separately. I even left a disc to install and when I got back home, the screen had told me to restart (kernel panic?). Kinda ***** that you get the computer of your dreams and problems like this happen...
I have managed to fully install (I hope) FCP, LiveType and part of its contents, DVDSP and its contents, Compressor, Qmaster and Cinema Tools. Not going to bother with Sountrack Pro as it's not something I want yet.
The one disc it that I can NEVER finish however is Motion. I have installed the program but I can't get the content to finish installing.
Can anyone think of what can be wrong? All my discs are genuine and are in perfect condition.
PS. The instructions says to install any program by putting the FCS disc first. Is it all that bad if I don't? (ie. install the program/content through the disc itself)

Thanks for the responses. Kernel panics suck. I had one more out of nowhere and another one after I restarted after that kernel panic! That's seriously 2 kernel panics within like a minute. Haven't had one since but that's really not good...
- The only things I have plugged are my keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers and power cord.
- I was installing as per the instructions but after so many restarts I started trying installing using the disc itself (ie. when I got to installing Motion, I would insert the Motion disc and use the install options from the disc rather than using the FCS install disc first THEN inserting the Motion disc when prompted...seems to work both ways but both ways I am getting restarts)
- FileVault is not on.
Will probably try an erase and install if it doesn't install properly but the end of the day...

• Final Cut Studio Installation problem HELP!

Hi
Ive just bought Final Cut Studio and have a laptop G4 and a new G5.
I previously had FCP 4.5 in the G4 and updated to 5.1 with Final cut studio.
Then I installed the Final Cut Studio on the G5. Initially I got an error message: "Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I continued installing the software which took around an hour to load all different parts of studio package.
I tried to open the various programs but when I entered the serial number I get a message "Licensing error, This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I get this error message even when I try to open Motion or DVD studio Pro which I didnt install on the G4.
The licence on FC studio states that the software can be used on 2 computers (one laptop and one standalone) but not at the same time.
So am I able to use the software on the G5?
Many thanks in advance

• Final Cut Studio install problems

Well I was thrilled to get Final Cut Studio 2, but cannot get the thing installed. Looking to do a 100% uninstall so I can start fresh
I have the following disks:
1. Final Cut Studio
2. DVD Studio
3. Livetype1
4. Livetype2
5. Motion
On my first install everything went as planned and it asked me for serial number. I made it thru the first disk with no problems, and the 2nd one installed for awhile, but suddenly stopped. A message popped up saying to put the Final Cut Studio disk back in. When I did that it failed. So I followed these steps:
Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Pro back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
Remove receipts and reinstall Final Cut Pro
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Pro. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Final Cut Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the "FinalCutPro.pkg" file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Pro" to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.
I started a fresh install, but noticed it never asked me again for my serial number. I was skeptical, but the installation went on and I made it all the way to the last disk, but when I put the Motion disk in the computer seemed to struggle to read the disk and eventually asked for the FCP disk to be put back in which resulted in another error.
I have tried several times since then to get this thing installed but keep failing. I worry about how it never asks me for a serial number. Are there some files that I am not deleting?
I have also tried to install one disk at a time and installing without Content.
Using a brand new Imac

Not sure if this is related but I've upgraded from FCS 1 to FCS 2 and all went well. I've now started to install all the various application media and Motion fails around 75% through the installation. I've tried to do a disk image of the disk but again that fails approx. 75% of the way through with the error "I/O error"
Tried the Soundtrack Pro media this morning and got through the first disk and again about 75% through disk 2 the installation failed.
Maybe Apple has bought a job lot of 'cheap' DVD's to save some money? I'll pop into an Apple store and see what they have to say!

• Final Cut Studio upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 problem

I am trying to upgrade my G5 from Final Cut Studio to Final Cut Studio 2, I have the key for the upgrade, but it is asking for the serial key of the original Final Cut. I have it, but it still won't accept, says it is an invalid serial number. I bought my "turn-key" system from B&H photovideo and had no problems with the system or programs until this. I cannot understand what is going on. I have a previously used Final Cut Studio 2 software. All materials are here, and the key seems good, I just can't get the installer to recognize my original copy. Any suggestions?

Call Apple.

• Final Cut studio install problem.

Just installed Final cut Studio, problem is i got everthing, except FCP7. why? I tried to reinstall but its not working...
Help!

You can't install FCP 7 if FCPX is already on your system. Remove everything with this: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
Install FCS3 first, run all updates then download FCP X again. AppStore knows that you already payed for it.

• Final Cut Studio Installation Hangs at 100%

I am in the middle of installing Final Cut Studio 2 and the intaller seems to have stalled. I inserted the Live Type Media 2 disk and the installer reached 100% of that portion and has not budged for 2 hours. It says 1 hour 11 minutes remaining.
The is a kbase article that says it is OK for the install to stop at 100% for a few minutes
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2114
But I have been waiting over 2 hours. Should I force quit the install? If I do, how do I reinstall correctly?
Thank you

I'd think you're OK so far. The applications are actually installed already if you got that far. What isn't installed are the templates... they can be installed after the fact so I'd think you could quit, look to see if you have the LiveType templates (look in the file menu in Livetype). If they are there, you can just put disk one in the machine, and turn off all other installs save the disks that you didn't get to yet. Again, they are just the templates and media for Motion DVD sp etc... the apps are all installed from the first disk.

• Final Cut Studio Installation Quesiton

I have a question about installation. It may be a bit obscure so bare with me. I had an older version of final cut and my friend did not. I read that you can use the serial number on Final Cut Studio twice (a laptop and a desktop I believe) so we were thinking of splitting the cost of the newest version of Final Cut studio.
This wouldn't be the "upgrade" version. What would happen on the computer that already has final cut? Would the computer automatically replace the older version/upgrade, or would I wind up with two versions of final cut? Should I just delete the old version first?
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.

You can't "split" a license with a friend.
You need two licenses.

• Final Cut Studio Installation

Hi,
I just bought Final Cut Studio from Apple Germany. Could someone reassure me as I have some doubts ! Can I install FCP Studio in English even if it's bought in Germany ?
I know that some softwares are coming in only one language : iLife 06 for example.
Thanks
Abyss mages

I believe FCP supports multiple languages. The only real issue is the installation, license and support information may be in the language of country where you purchased the software.
If in doubt, call Applecare. Installation support is free for 90 days.
good luck.

• Final Cut Studio HD problem with new Macbook Pro

I bought FCS HD and installed it onto my new Macbook Pro, but when I went to run Final Cut, it told me it was missing the graphics card. Now, the graphics card is different to my old laptop and G5, but surely the new macbook pro should be able to run my Final Cut Studio.
I was planning to buy the upgrade, not a whole new programme - now I am worried I will need to buy both an upgrade and Final Cut Studio 2.

This is a FCP HD, but no Final Cut Studio HD
My guess is that you are trying to run FCP 4.5 HD on an Intel Mac.
It isn't reliable even if you could install it.
You need FCS2 -- at the upgrade price.

• G4 and Final Cut Express installation problems

Thank you in advance for any help you can send my way. Any will be greatly appreciated.
I have a PowerMac G4 (gray) tower. Recently, under the advice of a Mac tech, I installed a 200GB harddrive and a Sonnet's Tempo ATA133 PCI card so that I could successfully install and run FinalCut Express. Now not only do I have the previous installed but I also have 1GHz CPU Speed, 1GB of RAM, DVD/Superdrive, Mac OS 10.4.3 and more than enough memory for the installation.
So now for the two strange parts:
1) When trying to install Final Cut it says that I cannot install the software because I lack the hardware.
2) And now I noticed in my System Profiler it says that my Machine Name is "Power Mac G3 (PCI graphics)" which I know it is not!
Do I have the wrong PCI card? Did I install it wrong? Am I missing something?
For your reference, listed below is what is required to run Final Cut Express:
Minimum Hardware Requirements
• A Macintosh computer with a 500 MHz or faster PowerPC G4 or G5 processor (550 MHz for PowerBook G4, 450 MHz for dual-processor Power Mac G4 or G5) and an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme
• 384 MB of RAM (512 MB required for RT Extreme and Soundtrack)
• For HDV: A Macintosh computer with a 1 GHz or faster PowerPC G4 or G5 processor and 1 GB of RAM
• 1 GB of available disk space for application installation
• 5 GB of available disk space for Soundtrack content
• 9 GB of available disk space for LiveType content
• DVD drive for software installation
Minimum Software Requirements
• Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later
• QuickTime 6.5.2 or later
Thanks again.

HI Coyote,
This could prove to be a problem. You definitely need 65MB of VRAM to run FCP. And FCP is a fairly sophisticated video editing program and takes time to learn. Unless the iBook has DVD burn capability, which I doubt, even with an older version of iLife, you wouldn't be able to burn to DVD's. But you could use iMovie, which is part of iLife to view video that's been uploaded to the iBook. Another potential problem is, I think this particular iBookG4's factory drive is 60GB. Video editing requires huge amounts of drive space to run without crashing. iLife 05 requires 4.3GB of drive space. iLife 05 requires 256MB of RAM, but runs much more efficiently with 512MB.
So, you have several glitches. Limited drive space, limited memory, insufficient VRAM, and no DVD burn capability. You wouy also need a camcorder that is compatible with the iBookG4.
I wish I had better news... here is a link to Apple's information for minimum requirements for iLife 05: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306338

• Final Cut Studio Installation Failed?!?!?

I just spent a bunch of hours patiently feeding my Macbook Pro all 7 of the the installation DVDs…. When it was done I ran software update which installed something to do with Pro Apps…. then I tried to Launch FCP 7 and it cannot be found…. there is no evidence that EVER installed FC Studio on this machine--what could be going on????
I appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,

Nothing in your Applications folder??
What version of FCS are you trying to install?
What version of Mac OS X do you have?

• Final Cut Studio installer doesn't allow FCP to be installed?

Hi all,
I've put a fresh copy of Leopard 10.5.4 on a dual g5 2.7Ghz with 4GB of RAM and hoping to install FCS2 onto it. Prior to doing this, I installed Logic 8 and Firefox - that's it.
When I installed Leopard, I wiped the drive so nothing is there. However, when I launch the installer, FCP is grayed out and I can't choose to install it. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do here?
Thanks!

It's because you have to install FCP.
It only shows as an optional install when it is already on your drive (If you left something out the first time, then changed your mind).
Although grayed, it still has a check mark next to it, right?

• Final Cut Studio 2 installation hangs under Snow Leopard

I've since seen this on two machines and have filed a bug with Apple, but wanted to post to give people a heads up.
When attempting a new installation of Final Cut Studio 2 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6, the install hung with "about a minute remaining."
Examination of the running processes using "top" showed one thread spinning in user space using 100% of the CPU:

/Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg/Contents/Resources/ConfigureMim eTypes -rescan -verbose

Running the same thread by hand succeeded immediately, so manually killing the spinning process seemed to have no ill effects and allowed the installation to proceed as expected.
Just to be safe I manuallly ran

/Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg/Contents/Resources/ConfigureMim eTypes -rescan -verbose

again after disc 1 was finished installing but (obviously) while disc 1 was still in the drive.

Hello,
I fortunately came across this discussion. I want to install FCS2 on my iMac which is now running under Snow Leopard and I also got stuck at "about a minute" remaining time.
But it seems that the answer to solve this is give in an answer William has given. The only thing is, I don't get it what to do.
I typed in the word Top in Terminal I saw that it is indeed "hanging" on ConfigureMimeTypes. Through "show contents" I got to the ConfigureMimeTypes file (at least I think that is what I should do). But then...?
Another thought was, that I had to install the QuickTimeMpeg2Pro.Pkg. So I have tried that also. But then the same happens, it got stuck at "the remaining one minute issue".
Can someone please tell me what to do?
Please consider the fact that I'm not a very technical person and that english is not my native language.
Thanks a lot.
Kind regards,
Richard

• How long does installation take for final cut studio?

how long does final cut studio installation take?

External hard drives are 10x (more or less) faster than CD's/DVD's to read and write too. Is faster to rip a DVD/CD and put it on a hard drive and read/write from that file than it to read and write to a DVD/CD.
DVDs/CDs are old school for holding data and... Apple doesn't use them any more... Not to long you will see and end to DVDs/Cds (blu-ray too).
