Final Cut Studio license invalid after upgrading to Leopard?

Hello,
After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.1, Final Cut Studio v5.1.4 and its companion apps like DVD Studio 4 do not recognize my FC Studio License as valid. I input the license key and it says:
"Licensing Error
This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I am a licensed user via the FC Studio Crossgrade since 2006 and all has been fine with Tiger before Leopard.
I have used Disk Utility to "repair permissions". I have removed the FC files from the Preferences folder to give it a clean start.
PERHAPS A HINT?:
So I tried to re-install FC Studio 5.1 from the FC Install DVD and I get this message after inputting the key:
"Alert
Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I have Administrator privileges on this account and I even tried to install it as 'root' and the same error occurs.
Is there a file that I need to change permissions on?

Unfortunately there is also an issue with installing FCS2 on a brand new installation with Leopard and this licensing error.
"Alert Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
This also occurs, apparently, that if you are logged in with an Active Directory user with Admin privileges it still will not let you install the product keys.
This is much the same as a problem with Adobe CS3 products, only the updates work when you are logged in with a local admin - not an Active Directory Admin.
Both these problems are really really annoying for those on corporate networks - such as myself.
For my problem, I had to log out as my AD account, login as a local admin and then install the software. .

Can I install Final Cut Studio 3.0 after already having FCP X?

I have already installed FCP X on one of my computers. I need to install Final Cut Studio 3.0 on the same computer now.
When I tried to install, I get the selection screen and Final Cut is ghosted out and unavailable.
Is there a way around this? I know FCP X can co-exist with Final Cut Studio 3.0 if it's installed afterward, but I need to know if I can install Final Cut Studio after FCP X which I imagine is a fairly rare situation.
I'm on Lion -- in case that matters.

I'm not positive, but I believe that FCPX installer is aware of FCS. If you intsall FCPX and FCS is already on your computer, the FCPX installer will move FCS into a folder inside Applications. I'm sure FCS installer is not aware of the existance of FCPX.
I would guess that you would have to uninstall FCPX, install FCS and then, if you wanted, re-install FCPX, using the App Store.
I have not actually done this, but I'm guessing that having FCPX already on your computer is what's causing issues with the FCS installer.

Final Cut Studio 5.0.4 Upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 HD Crash now needing to install on laptop

I had Final Cut Studio 5.0.4 on my laptop which I upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2 during the 12 month period when it was offered at a reduced price. My old G5 Hard Drive has bit the dust and I am trying to install on my laptop. I have successfully re-installed upto 5.0.4 including the troublesome compressor 2.0.1 and Qmaster 2.0.1. There are no further updates apparently when my laptop scans for any. I am running OSX 10.5.8. Now when I put the disks in for the Studio 2 all FCP, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Compressor, DVD Studio Pro, Apple Qmaster, Live Type and Cinema tools are all grayed out, saying they need to be upgraded first. I am guessing it is because this 12 month deal is no longer available. Does anyone know a work around for this? I paid $499 for this upgrade and I cant re-install it?
My laptop is 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SD RAM, small for FCP but I don't keep files on there.
Any help would be appreciated.

why did you install FCP 5 when you are going to install FCS 2? FCS 2 upgrade installer does not need FCP 5 installed and therefore you dont need updates as you will be installing a newer version of FCP.
During the installation process of FCS 2 it should ask for the serial number of FCP 5 then ask for the upgrade serial number for FCS 2. You must have both of these or it wont install.
Check this spec for FCS 2 with your laptop to see if it is compatible, if the machine is not compatible, it wont install.

/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut Pro System ID
delete the file and the next time FCP opens, it will ask for the relevant information.

Hello, i want to know if i can install final cut studio in more than 1 computer with the same serial number, or if i need to pay an extra money for the licences for using in 3 computers?

The license agreement is (1) desktop and (1) laptop...as long as they are both owned by you, and not used at the same time. This is to take into account you using one machine at the office, and the other machine at home or when you are travelling.
You may not install FCP on multiple machines and use all of them simultaneously. That is against the agreement.

Final Cut Studio 2 installation hangs under Snow Leopard

I've since seen this on two machines and have filed a bug with Apple, but wanted to post to give people a heads up.
When attempting a new installation of Final Cut Studio 2 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6, the install hung with "about a minute remaining."
Examination of the running processes using "top" showed one thread spinning in user space using 100% of the CPU:
<pre>/Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg/Contents/Resources/ConfigureMim eTypes -rescan -verbose</pre>
Running the same thread by hand succeeded immediately, so manually killing the spinning process seemed to have no ill effects and allowed the installation to proceed as expected.
Just to be safe I manuallly ran
<pre>/Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg/Contents/Resources/ConfigureMim eTypes -rescan -verbose</pre>
again after disc 1 was finished installing but (obviously) while disc 1 was still in the drive.

I fortunately came across this discussion. I want to install FCS2 on my iMac which is now running under Snow Leopard and I also got stuck at "about a minute" remaining time.
But it seems that the answer to solve this is give in an answer William has given. The only thing is, I don't get it what to do.
I typed in the word Top in Terminal I saw that it is indeed "hanging" on ConfigureMimeTypes. Through "show contents" I got to the ConfigureMimeTypes file (at least I think that is what I should do). But then...?
Another thought was, that I had to install the QuickTimeMpeg2Pro.Pkg. So I have tried that also. But then the same happens, it got stuck at "the remaining one minute issue".
Can someone please tell me what to do?
Please consider the fact that I'm not a very technical person and that english is not my native language.

Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 - upgraded to Leopard, lost serial!!! Options???

I had Final Cut Pro installed on Tiger before upgrading to Leopard. I did an 'archive and install' and now when I open the program (or any other program like Soundtrack) it asks me for the serial again.
The software was a gift and I don't have the serial anymore. Any way for me to not have to buy another version? Help!!!

If you did an "Archive and Install" then this file should still be accessible in your archived system.

Final Cut 7 running slow after upgrading to SNOW LEOPARD

I was happy how everything was working and just didn't install SL on my Mac Pro. The SL upgrade DVD was sitting on my desk for two months already and I was waiting for a good timing to install it [+didn't want to upgrade while I had ongoing projects+].
Few days ago, I finally upgraded to SL and was hoping for better performance... on a contrary ... FCP render takes 3 times more to finish, playback is jerky and feels like 15fps, the spinning wheel appears more often and sometimes selecting is impossible, I have to click on a canvas then try selecting again. I didn't try other Pro Apps yet so I am not sure if there will be any problems with Motion, Color or any other FCP App.
I'm working with Panasonic P2 HD material (DVCPRO HD 1080p25),
I have 350GB system drive and it has around 15% free disk space and
internal Striped RAID set 3TB [3x1TB HDD] 50% free disk space.
_I tried opening a new Admin user and Logged in from that user account but nothing changed._
Anyone experienced something like this? I'm trying to find a solution without having to go back to Leopard, so any TIP would help.

I've heard, but can't verify, that FCS should be installed after Snow Leopard.
Before reverting your OS, try do a complete uninstall of FCS -

It sounds as though you have just trashed the application icons and not got rid of all the hidden files.

Final Cut Studio Crossgrade - Best method for upgrade?

Hi,
I've received my new Final Cut Studio crossgrade disks after surrendering my old ones to Apple and paying my £40 plus p&p (seems a bit antiquated doesn't it) and now I'm wondering how to go about installing.
I suppose ideally I would start again with a fresh OSX install and then install all the new Final Cut Studio apps on a 'clean' system. However, if I decide I am too lazy to do this (as fun as it sounds, my system is running fine otherwise so it would be a bit of a pain) is there a way of clearing off my old FCS apps cleanly, to allow me to install the new ones without any performance compromises / potential conflicts / unused files lying about on my system disk (or is this going to leave loads of hidden files that might cause crashes etc.?
I would appreciate advice from anyone who has tried their method and is certain it definitely works!

You're right - a clean install would be better. BUT, few of us can afford the time or energy to rebuild all the apps folder, etc. Personally, I simply installed it directly on top of all existing apps, after making a system drive clone. Worked perfectly, I saw no problems after crossgrading.

Upgrading Final Cut Express to Final Cut Studio

What are the steps to preserve/upgrade/transfer files when upgrading from Final Cut Express 4 to Final Cut Studio?
Such an upgrade isn't referenced in the Final Cut Studio documentation. The only reference to FCE is "You can open and use projects created with earlier versions of Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express, but you need to specify how you want Final Cut Pro to handle the color space in these files."
Can I drag and drop the whole ~/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/ folder into a Final Cut Studio folder?

Not really sure what you're asking. FCE projects can be opened in FCP. The media is not relevant to the project. It doesn't get moved or it doesn't need to be. Any media captured in FCE can be imported into an FCP project, though Pro gives you more options for capture
If you want to keep the original FCE project, just duplicate the project file and open one into FCP and keep the other for FCE.

Does anyone know if the Grand Central Dispatch ability has been programmed into Final Cut Studio for activation after the release of Snow Leopard on 8/28?

That's most likely JVC's HDV flavor...it's 720p, and HDV is MPEG-2.
Yeah, that's a big issue hitting a lot of people who captured HDV, and then upgraded to LION. The files were unreadable...

Final Cut Studio (ver 1.0) won't install on brand new 2.8 ghz intel coreduo

I just bought a new 15inch MacBook Pro (4 GB memory) and went to install Final Cut Studio (ver 1.0) and then install the Final Cut Studio (HD) upgrade, but when I try to install Final Cut Studio (ver 1.0) I get this error: "Your computer does not have the hardware required to run this software. All of the minimum requirements seem to be easily met, and I've run this old version of Final Cut Studio and the HD upgrade on my previous and older macbook, so I'm really confused on this error message. Final Cut Studio Keeps Asking For Serial Number

I use an imac. I currently use final cut studio 3. After approx. 2 maybe 3 weeks the software will stop working. It boots up to the registration screen. I will enter my name and the orginal serial number but it tells me the serial number is not valid. What is causing this and how can I prevent? If I unload software and reload, it works but will kick me out again after uses.

Go to the following location: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps.
Delete the file Final Cut Studio System ID.
The next tme you launch one of the apps it will ask for your serial number - hopefully for the last time.
If it happens again, something is causing that file to be corrupted, probably by writing its own data there.
Try the above anyway, it might just stick this time.

Final Cut Studio 1.1?

A little background: got the Software Update pop-up just now - I have it set to Daily - and, by accident, clicked on the link for the Apple SLAs.
I was about to close Safari when I noticed some new-to-me software versions (FCP 5.1, DVDSP 4.1, STP 1.1, Motion 2.1). Also, there's an SLA for Final Cut Studio 1.1. I clicked on that and noticed this:
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you.(Of course, it goes on to contradict itself by saying that "This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time" but anway...)
For reference, the Final Cut Studio license (not 1.1, that is), reads:
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time.
A search of Apple.com for "Final Cut Studio 1.1" only returns the SLA page.
So that brings me to my question: Is anyone here familiar with Final Cut Studio 1.1? Is it some other type of license, like a special Volume License? Or perhaps the Crossgrade license?
Please don't use this as a jump-off to speculate - I ain't trying to get any heat brought down on us - I'm simply curious if anyone knows anything about this license since the SLA is available online.

Brian, sorry if my post is misleading you. No disagreement here about what the latest versions available via Software Update are (FCP 5.0.4 is what I know to be correct as well).
My question is about the very fact that SLAs 'exist' for FCP 5.1, et al.
I'm getting those version numbers (along with Final Cut Studio 1.1) from Apple's SLA page.
I take it this is new(s) to you?
