Final Cut Studio on MacBook Pro

Will all Final Cut Studio 2 programs and features run efficiently on a new MacBook Pro 13"? If not, what MacBook Pro would be the cheapest to run it on?

Greetings,
I just upgraded to a new 3.06 GHz 17 inch MacBookPro with 4 GB of RAM from the previous generation 17 inch MacBookPro with a 2.33 GHz processor. I have noticed a tremendous increase in performance and ability to render and export with ease and alacrity.
Having said that, my general question is: Does anyone have any general advice for hardware/ video setup configurations? I am very well versed with iMovie (ha!), and now I am seriously trying to graduate to Final Cut Studio. I have made a few clips and played around with various transitions, filters, etc, but does anyone have advice for what settings I should be using?
Oh yeah, I have a Sony AVCHD Camcorder (HDR-CX7)... I am not a fan of the CMOS chip, but nonetheless, it is what I have at the moment.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Cheers.

  • Final cut studio and macbook pro

hi i have final cut studio 2 currently installed on my imac, and it kinda slows my general use of the computer
i bought a new macbook pro (the new one with aluminum casing), but its only the base, and i have not upgraded it in any way, so it is as it comes
and basically i was wondering, if i installed the entire final cut studio 2 (and aperture), how would it affect the general speed of the machine when doing other general tasks not FCS related:
    a) while FCS is running
and b) while it is not running
i also want to run games off of my MBP so i really dont want to compromise speed

It needs to be filled with RAM, and when running Pro Apps, in the faster graphics processor mode. Mail, etc. will likely run fine along side them. I'd not play games when rendering though.
When they don't run, they don't affect anything but disk space 60 gigs for it all including Templates... RAM is the key to running multiple apps on any given Mac.
Nice Mac too. I just saw one the other day for the first time. I love that new trackpad the most. It's likely a lot faster than my 2.3 laptop, and I can run all the apps at the same time no problem with it. But ya need to fill up the RAM. I like that it's so green.

  • Final Cut Studio on MacBook?

    Hi,
I have been told that I cannot use Final Cut Studio or FC Pro on my MacBook (2008, the one before the aluminum one 2.4GHz, 2GB Memory, 160 HD) because it is not powerful enough and that only a MacBook Pro can handle the software. Surely this can't be true? If it is, what can I do to increase my Hard Drive for it to be powerful enough? Something external? And, is increasing the Hard Drive the only thing needed if I wanted to use this software?
    Thanks

I wouldn't try to use Final Cut on the white MacBook. You may be able to get it to work, but it would probably be very slow.
Remember, though you have 2GBs of RAM, the MacBook never has 2GBs available. The white MacBooks only have a 2GB capacity (you can't upgrade the RAM)
You can try it, but it may be slow.
The references about RAM aren't entirely true.
The early MacBooks (Core Duo) have an official cap of 2GB of RAM.
The first Core 2 Duo MacBooks have an Apple-supported cap of 2GB, but can use 3GB.
The late 2007 MacBook & later have an Apple-supported cap of 4GB, but users have reported success with up to 6GB.
The OP's machine can easily support additional RAM. However, due to the requirements for FCP, upgrading the RAM won't help in getting that program working. The machine is physically incompatible (wrong type of graphics processor) and the only way to deal with that is to buy a different machine.

If your MBP meets them, it should work fine.

  • Final Cut Crashes on macbook pro, please help!

    Hi!
I just bought Final Cut Studio 3, but Im having some issues. Final Cut Pro 7 crashes at startup, everytime. Motion 4 crashes when I click on "file". Color and DVD studio works okay-ish (I havent tried them out extensively)
Could this be due to my macbook pro 4.1 not being good enough? I have 4 gb ram, 2,4 ghz, and I dont think it has integrated graphics, so it seems to pass all requirements.
Please help me! I paid lots of money for this program, so it would be a shame if I cant get it to work.

    Hi Mads,
These are the specs recommended by apple.
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
Also, do you have any third party filters/effects loaded.

  • Final Cut Studio Fail After Pro Application Update 2010-1

Final Cut Pro crashes when loading project.
    Motion crashes when loading project.
Compressor won't allow me to "submit" my batch from the 'name batch' stage.
I didn't try DVD Studio or Color.
Problems started as soon as I updated. Anyone else have similar problems? I tried dumping my system preferences but that didn't help. I haven't modified or customized FCS at all, I don't have any unusual plugins - I hardly even set up customized window configurations.
Using latest Final Cut Studio (MB642Z/A)
    Final Cut Pro 7.0
    Compressor 3.5
    Motion 4
    Running OS X 10.6.2
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 21.5" iMac
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Thank you for any feedback. If others have similar problems, I can wait for next update (hopefully soon) otherwise I have no clue where to start.

  • Final cut studio 3, quicktime pro

just installed final cut studio on new laptop.
i thought it came with quicktime pro, but can only find quicktime.
does that mean another $29 investment?
if it's there, where can i find it?

I found this thread after having the same problem. I went through the steps suggested, but it didn't help me. I still have the regular QT instead of the Pro version. Any thoughts?

  • Does Final Cut Studio have QuickTime Pro?

I have Final Cut Studio. I have been told part of the package is QuickTime Pro. If this is true, how do I activate it?

How do you backup registration information? Is this something done routinely by Time Machine?
Most of my applications have a registration code and either a purchaser name or email address. I am simply creating TextEdit files containing this information and storing them in a centralized folder which is then copied to each of my RAID drives for archiving, as well as, 2 USB thumb dives for mobile access. In addition, since Apple no longer backs up my QT MPEG-2 Playback component, I am storing the last three versions of this component on the same storage devices. As to Time Machine, it backs up changes to applications and documents which may or may not include the registration information depending on how it is stored relative to the application to which it refers. Unfortunately, I may manipulate hundreds of GBs of video data in a single day so I had to turn off Time Machine because it was not able to keep up will all the changes. The Time Machine-like routines that track changes at the application level under Lion are good enough for my normal daily work. My main interst is the protection of several TBs of archived documents and projects on the external RAID drives. If push comes to shove on the main system, I can always re-initialize/replace the internal drive and re-install the System OS and applications. (I.e., I don't keep anything on the internal or external boot drives that I can't afford to lose.)

  • Trying to install final cut on my macbook pro. HELP!!!!!!

    hello
i have a macbook pro. i am trying to install final cut. when i put the disc in and follow the prompts, it tells me that my computer no longer supports this power pc application. if i download os x mountain lion, will i be able to install final cut on my laptop? i think the problem has something to do with something called rosetta. but im not totally sure. does mountain lion have anything to do with rosetta?

What version of Final Cut do you have?
There are versions that are Intel, but the installer is a PowerPC app. I have Final Cut Express 3.x and it is working on Lion and ML. If you have a working version of Final Cut on a Mac with Snow Leopard, you can manually copy all necessary files from there to your new Mac - that is how I got it to work (my installer is PPC also). Following are the instructions that I followed (although they are for deletion, it does not matter - it gives all the locations, so I just copied the files to an external and put them in the exact same spots on the new iMac):

  • Final Cut Studio 2 (Mac Pro Or iMac)

    Hi,
I am new to macs and I have not yet bought one. I need FCS2 for video editing but I was wondering if the new iMac with 4gb of ram and 1TB storage would be ok or should I go for a Mac Pro with as close specs as possible.
    Regards
    Kenneth

I would stick with the Mac Pro option. You can save some money by buying a refurbished model from the online Apple store. This is what I did with my G5 tower. You still get the same warranty as a new one all of the accessories are very complete and exactly like new the only difference is that the box and firmware indicates the computer is a refurb. When you get into editing you will want to expand your capabilities with better capture devices, additional storage, etc. The iMac will cramp you.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Apple Loops, Jam Packs and Logic express 8 installation?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I've currently use Final Cut Studio 2 +Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2+ application with all included Apple Loops.
I own several Jam Pack Apple Loops packages (with a less than impressive integration with Garage Band for older one).
I purchased Logic Express 8 pro today.
Is there more Apple Loops files included with Logic express 8 than with Soundtrack Pro 2?
What is the best way to install Logic express 8 Apple Loops to avoid duplicate loops files?
    Thank You.
    Michel Boissonneault

Well, the installation was very simple, no duplicate files and tight integration of GarageBand loops and JamPacks.

  • How can I install Final Cut Studio 2 on my new MacBook Pro with Lion?

I just purchased and received a new 15" MacBook Pro (non-retina) last week. I need to install Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer. I have researched this and found that I need to install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD in order to do this. This is the first Mac I've bought ( although I've been working with them for years), so I don't have a Snow Leopard DVD. I am a high school teacher and we use FCS 2 for my classes so buying FCP X is not a viable option for me since I teach FCP 6. The iMacs we use in school run Leopard and were never upgraded to Snow Leopard (budget cuts and all), so I can't even borrow one from my district.
Does anyone know how I can obtain Rosetta? Or another way to install this without it?
    Thank you ! :)

There is no way to add Rosetta support because it is not supported by OS X Lion at system level. This has been documented before the release of OS X Lion by itself.
If you really need Final Cut Studio 2, I would return your computer if possible, and purchase a Mac that is capable of running Snow Leopard (all 2010 models, early 2011 MBP and some other 2011 models)
