FINAL CUT STUDIO PRO - CAN’T GET “SMOOTHCAM” EFFECT
I use a Macbook Pro 17”
Software: Leopard 10.5. External LaCie Hard Drive 1TB
I upgraded my Computer Software to Leopard and reinstalled Final Cut Pro and Motion on my Laptop. It worked fine with SmoothCam, but as I had lost too much space on my Laptop Harddrive, I decided to reinstall the full program, choosing custom location the external LaCie drive.
Since than Final Cut Pro can’t find SmoothCam and it asks to reinstall SmoothCam.
➢ ./library/Plug-Ins/FX /Plug< Not Existing
➢ ./library-Application Support/ProApps/Internal Plug-Ins/FX Plug<
This file is empty.
My project I work on at the moment is a film, where I had done a lot of SmoothCams, but since reinstalling it will not find the effect anymore, it asks to reinstall SmoothCam.
In the mean time I tried several times to start from scratch and reinstall the whole Program, but now I’m not even able to register anymore, it will not accept the correct Registration No.
I would appreciate anybodies help very much.

I had a similar problem when I upgraded my MacBook Pro to leopard as well. This is what I did (after several trial and errors)...
1.) Wipe the computer again and reinstall leopard. I suggest doing a custom install and just leave out things you do not need as they just take up valuable space.
2.) Reinstall FCS but DO NOT let it install the additional content as we will get to that part later. Just install the core programs themselves and uncheck the boxes to install the additional content.
3.) After FCS is installed re-run the installer and install the content but change the location to your external drive. At this point I created a folder on my external called "Final Cut Studio" and Created separate folders for each program and its content.
4.) After you have reinstalled the content on to your external drive, go into each program and point them to where the extra content is kept. <--- This step and step 3 arent really needed, but they make things easy for when you have to wipe your computer. This has saved me LOTS of time on reinstalling FCP because now all you have to do is install the core programs from now on.
You once you start FCP all your effects should be there. The main thing here is to do a complete wipe of the system and rebuild. Not just an uninstall / re-install. As far as your registration problem your going to have to call apple. I had a problem with an old serial number where it would not take it anymore after updating the software to 6.0.2 from 6.0. They can give you a new number to use and it does not take too long.

The installer requires Rosetta to be present, but Lion doesn't include it anymore. You can try to install Rosetta from a Snow Leopard disc using the "Optional Installs". Note that this is not officially supported: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4769
There have also been reports that Lion will break most plugins for FCS 2 and FCS 3. -
Avid Hardware and Final Cut Studio Pro
Is it possible to couple Avid Hardware, for instance Avid Mojo, with Final Cut Studio Pro?
I find video editing on my Powerbook slow and tedious. I have intermitten access to a Powermac G5 Dual Ghz, but it only cuts the time by half which however doesn't equal realtime.
What is possible?
- AnthonyYOu just need to know how to use it properly. Having to render all the time means that your clip settings and sequence settings don't match, or you are using a codec that is not realtime. There are plenty of codecs that are (including DV, DVCPRO HD, HDV) as long as you captured the footage properly with FCP. I come from an Avid background and find FCP very slick.

hi, i use the final cut studio 2 with a mac pro computer, i transfer american format video to pal dvd sometimes useing a vhs converter video recorder, i was doing this for awhile and just last week it don't work, when i try to capture on the final cut studio i'm getting unsteady pictures frame droping fast, i haven't made any changes to the settings on final cut, can you help, thanks
It sounds to me like you are going from a multi-standard VCR to a DV Bridge of some type to capture and then to your computer. If this is the case it sounds to me like your VCR, Capture device or FCP has been switched from NTSC to PAL or vice versus.
Check all of you settings on your equipment and ensure that the capture settings conform to what you are feeding FCP.
A few more details about your hardware set-up would be helpful if my assumptions are not accurate.

Final Cut Studio Pro 2 Install - Skip Final Cut Pro itself - TT_NEWALREADYI

I hope you can help. I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM, with OS X 10.4.10 running. It came with iLife 08.
I installed Logic Studio 8 (which was successful), and have been trying to install my copy of Final Cut Studio 2. When I run the installation, the options appear for custom install, but FInal Cut Pro, Compressor and QMaster are greyed out, and the action identified for them is "skip. If I rest the mouse over any of the options the text TT_NEWERALREADYINSTALLED appears.
I have tried uninstalling the Logic Studio components with AppZapper, and retrying the install of Final Cut Studio, but no matter what I try to do, it won't install Final Cut Pro.
Can anybody help?

If i buy final cut studio 2 and then get final cut studio 3 upgrade will it be final cut studio 3
ive been looking around to buy final cut studio 3 for weeks now with no success and i think ive found a solution i'm just wondering if it will work by buying final cut studio 2 full and then buying final cut studio 3 upgrade overall will everything be final cut studio 3?
You can still get the FCS3 upgrades from the apple shop
No you can not get FCS upgrades from Apple retail stores or Apple dealers, they have been recalled by Apple.
Only places that will stock is independant retailers and online used software vendors.
Apple have clearly stated that FCS is now ''end of life'' -

As I understand it, getting a good quality DVD produced in FCP from digital slides isn't possible.
Having acquired Final Cut Studio 2, I hoped to avoid more software purchases.
Do I really need a third party application such as Fotomagico to produce quality video from digital slides?No you can do it in FCP.
From what I've read about Fotomagico, that program will do it much quicker.
If you can pre-format all your pictures and use tiffs or pngs instead of jpgs then you're better off with FCP. But I've used jpgs. Just used used about 2000-3000 of them for a family project.
I don't advise using that many, but if you create lots of different sequences and put them all together at the end it's doable...also you will need to dramatically increase your Still Cache memory in the Memory and Cache Tab within your System Settings.

My old Mac drive died and bought a Air. Trying to install Final Cut but bumping into error on trying to install Studio. I have an upgrade to Pro but I have been told that I need to install Studio first. I have all the original disks.
Final Cut Studio 2 has a "bug" in the installer program that results in the "PowerPC" dialog box.
There are two alternative methods to install into Mavericks:

Final Cut Studio 3 can switch from Japanese to english?
I live in Japan and I want to buy Final Cut Studio 3, but there is only Japanese language only. I'm afraid of purchasing it and it won't switch to 100% in English. Is there an International version in Japan? Has anyone purchased from Japan and using it in english? Any info would be most appreciated.

Custom reinstall of Final Cut Studio Pro
I installed the full studio pro on my laptop and realized after how much hard drive it took up. I decided I wanted to put some of the installation on an external hard drive. I drug the files into the garbage bin and deleated all the files that I could find on my computer. I than tried to reinstall the studio and the install window is stating that it is simply updates not full reinstall. How do I do a custom reinstall when I have already installed it once?

two mistakes here; assuming you can personalise an installation to your way of thinking and deleting application files!
Mac applications must be installed on the drive that has the operating system installed, therefore trying to install on an external non-system drive will be prevented by the istallation process
delete the FCP package receipts in /Library/Receipts
then re-installto your systen drive
If you dont have enough free space on the drive, only install the applications you want or better, buy a larger capacity drive -

What Mac to get for Final Cut Studio?
I've been doing most of my video editing for the last year or so in Sony Vegas on a PC. I'm looking to get into it a bit more seriously and want to make the switch to Final Cut Studio.
Can I run it on a Macbook Pro? Can I run it WELL on a Macbook Pro? Currently I'm running Sony Vegas on a PC with a Q9350 quad-core CPU, 4gb ram, and an 8800GT graphics card, and I'm not fully satisfied with the way it runs (encoding times are fine, but it's difficult to preview within the software with any semi-complex effects added). What should I be looking for in terms of processing speed and whatnot here? Could I get away with the 13 or 15 inch Macbook pros and still run things well?

It depends on which MBP, what type of video you are editing, and other factors.
Remember as well that FCS3 2009 includes FCP, DVDSP, Compressor, Color, Motion, and Cinema Tools, some of which are GPU based in part. -
Can't launch ANY of the Final Cut Studio apps
As some of you may have seen, when I was reinstalling all of my old software, I couldn't go to FCP 6.0.4. So I uninstalled Final Cut Studio and got rid of everything the Final cut studio uninstaller didn't get rid of (live type data, etc)
Then I updated to 10.5.5
Then I reinstalled Final Cut Studio and ran software update. Everything updated fine and then I went to launch the programs for the first time and ALL of them say they unexpectedly quit. Should I have launched them once before updating? I DO have all the up-to-date versions this time, but I can't open any of them. I'd hate to have to reinstall all this AGAIN as it takes forever to do so.
Anyone know how to fix this?No, I know that. Sorry I didn't mention it here.
This is what the console is telling me. I had used the Final Cut Studio uninstaller before reinstalling. My copy is an upgrade version, but everything installed and updated OK. They just won't launch

Why Can't I Install Final Cut Studio?
I have a MacBook Pro which is about 12 months old. It has a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 Processor and 8G of RAM. I have been trying to install Final Cut Studio 5.1. Yeah I know that is an OLLLLLLLLLLLD version. Why I chose not to update is neither here nor there. I was about to update when Final Cut Pro X was realeaded and FCS vanished into the ether. I really only wanted DVD Pro but when that wouldn't install I went back to Square 1.
The specificationa as stated are:- "These discs contain the files required to install Final Cut Studio 5.1 on either PPC or Intel based Mac computers."
The error message that shows up on the screen when I click on the install package is:- "You can't open the application Final Cut Studio pro.mpkg because Power PC applucations are no longer supported."
This is despite the stated specifications and the fact that there is a Universal Icon on the discs.
I am also having a simillar but not the same problem with iLife '06 but i'll start another thread on that.
I'm confused, thanks for your help in advance.Your problem is you are running Lion as your OS (10.7) and Lion does not support Rosetta which is required to run the INSTALLER of FCS 2. If you were running Snow Leopard, you would have been able to do the install.
