Final Cut Studio Won't Remember Serial Number

Hi -- I am new to Final Cut Studio. I've just finished installing Final Cut Studio on my computer. I have registered the software via the internet and yet, every time I open one of the applications from the suite, it requests my serial number.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Final Cut Studio Keeps Asking For Serial Number

I use an imac. I currently use final cut studio 3. After approx. 2 maybe 3 weeks the software will stop working. It boots up to the registration screen. I will enter my name and the orginal serial number but it tells me the serial number is not valid. What is causing this and how can I prevent? If I unload software and reload, it works but will kick me out again after uses.

Go to the following location: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps.
Delete the file Final Cut Studio System ID.
The next tme you launch one of the apps it will ask for your serial number - hopefully for the last time.
If it happens again, something is causing that file to be corrupted, probably by writing its own data there.
Try the above anyway, it might just stick this time.

Trying to install final cut studio and not recognizing serial number

I am upgrading from final cut pro 5.1.4 with final cut studio 2. When I enter the studio 2
serial number it asks me for my original serial number from 5.1.4 and it tells me it's not
a valid serial number. I have checked over and over with my manual and the serial number
on the software in the computer and it still says the same thing.

I had my macbook pro 15inch(2010 model) stolen a week ago. I was running on Snow Leopard, and I used Final Cut 5.
I am a bit out of touch with how much the technology and upgrades have changed (don't chastise me for it!), and have discovered that any new laptop I buy will come with the Mavericks operating system, which obviously won't allow my FCP5 to run.
I have also been told that I can't simply upgrade to a newer version of FCP, but that I would have to purchase the entire suite again, and that would mean purchasing FCPX, which I would prefer not to buy because of all the changes that it brought to the program.
First of all, is it standard procedure to have to purchase entire suites all over again once each new version is brought out? I was under the impression that once purchased, you could upgrade, seeing as you had made the commitment of spending the money in the first place. Apologies if this is a terribly daft question, but I would appreciate the assistance!
Secondly, if I don't want to upgrade to FCPX, does anyone know if there is a way to still upgrade to FCP7, either by purchasing it or updating it using my serial number details from FCP5? I bought it legitimately and I'm trying to find out if there is a way to avoid spending thousands all over again!

It been a while, but I believe you just need the serial number of FC 5 for the FCS 3 installer. If I were you, I would verify that over at the Final Cut Studio forum before purchasing the update disks.
I just checked Amazon and there is a $600 difference in the update and full versions; they list (one) unopened upgrade boxed set at $795 while an unopened set of the full version currently is proced at $1295 (a $300 premium over the price Apple used to charge!).
Something you might want to ponder: the question of how much to invest in a suite of software that is no longer being supported by Apple. Even though I'm able to run FCP 7 and its related apps largely without issues on Mavericks, who knows how long or well that will work in the future?
Also, if you're at all curious about whether the changes you mentioned in FCP X are value-added or not, you can always download the trial version and find out first hand. If you do, invest a little time with some of a few tutoirals offered by by a variety of highly regarded FCP X intructors. You might be pleasantly surprised.

My laptop Final Cut Studio won't allow me access.

I have a fully licensed Final Cut Studio including an upgrade for a few years now. It's installed on my PC and Laptop. This morning for some reason the version on my laptop is asking for a serial number before allowing me access. But even when I enter it it rejects it as invalid! How do I access it?

are you sure you're entering the correct serial number and entering it correctly?
Is this an upgrade or a full install? If an upgrade, it may be looking for the original serial number rather than the upgrade number.
If I remember correctly (and I may not be) the serial numbers are in groups of three and each group is either numbers or letters not a mix.
Also, you might want to do the normal troubleshooting steps like repairing permissions, running disk repair on all drives (particularly your startup drive which you'll have to do after booting from your os install disk or another bootable drive), run diskwarrior (if you have it) on your startup drive and deleting fcp preferences

Final Cut Studio keeps requesting my serial

I've had Final Cut Studio installed on my computer for 2 years and it was registered and had worked fine all this time, but all of the sudden, all of the programs have started asking me to re-enter the serial number to use them. As the installation was done 2 years ago (and I've moved 3 times in that time span), the original documentation is nowhere to be found. I haven't tried to upgrade or move the software to another computer
I have a Final Cut Pro System ID file in my ProApps folder, and much of the responses to other forum issues have talked about moving that file or doing something else to it. My question is can I extract my original serial number from that file?
I'm not using a pirated copy, it is a legitimate copy that I got when I was back in college.

Yes, I can confirm that Apple were VERY good when it came to providing me with a 'replacement' serial number. They throughly checked that I did actually buy original product which luckily was from the Apple Store so they had a record... people who bought from a 3rd party might have a bit more trouble.

Latest Final Cut Studio Won't Install On G4 Powermac.

I have a friend with a dozen or so Macs!
He has just purchased Final Cut Studio with a multiple use licence and installed it on his G5 Powermac successfully but it won't install on his G4 because the "standard" video card is not up to it (according to an Apple compatibility checker that he downloaded).
The obvious solution, that Apple would certainly approve, is for him to spend a further £150 on a new card.
However, is there a hack he could use to get it to work with the old one?

Well, I've been to Holland, dawdling thro' the dykes ..and I've been playing with my HDV cameras - silly me: I upgraded from FCP3 to FCP HD 4.5, but - of course! - it didn't do HDV, so now I'm just waiting for my "cross-grade" universal FC Studio to arrive, so that I can play with DVD SP, as well as edit HDV 'natively'. (..I upped to a quad G5, as the wait for imports to transcode into the 'Intermediate Codec' was just too, too mind-numbingly -s-l-o-w- ..and exports took 10x real-time on my G4 Mac mini/PowerBook/whatever.)
But I'm typing this on an FCP multi-coloured keyboard (..or, I should say "Mark IN, Next Edit, Marker, spacebar, Track Tool, Render Quality/Toggle, Pen Tool, Mark IN, Snapping/Toggle, Edit Selection, spacebar, Track Tool, Hand Tool, Mark IN, Slip/Slide", etc, as you aficionados would know it..) so I am really trying..
Whenever I see a picture of dear old Albert, or read about him, or watch a video clip or impersonation of him, I always think about your glimpse of "the patent clerk" at Princeton long ago..
..meanwhile: back in 2006; I've got a big cheese-grater, nice fast hard discs, and am waiting for my raid controller to arrive (to run these two 10,000 rpm 'Raptors' ..the 72GB ones, which do work inside an Apple, unlike - apparently - the later ones..) [why can't they have more genteel names, like 'Daisies' or 'Flowerpots'?] ,,and I have all this footage to finish..
I've still got to complete shooting, and cutting, a TV programme about (..ssshh; don't want to say..) but I'm pretty much determined to do it all in iMovie HD ..just as a matter of principle ..though what that principle is, I'm not sure ..maybe "This program should be good enough for anything!" ..though I may cheat when it comes to colour-correction, or something equally obscure or abstruse ..or do I mean insecure and ostrich?

HT3866 How to locate original serial to Final Cut Studio, only have upgrade serial.

When rebuilding my system, Final Cut Studio lost serials, Soundtrack Pro asked for serial, I entered what came with my upgrade box set. It then said I needed to enter the original serial, which I no longer have. Any thoughts on how to obtain this? Big thanks.

G4 867MHz powerbook + Final Cut Studio won't install

My g4 867MHz powerbook should be able, on paper at least [memory, etc], to cope with Final cut studio, but the installer tells me that it can't. Why? Is there some shortfall with the video card or something? Any ideas?

Final Cut studio won't install- "powerpc apps no longer supported"

I'm trying to install my old copy of final cut studio 5.1 and it tells me 'power pc apps are no longer supported', however this is a universal copy of studio 5.1 (intel or powerpc) and it's being installed on an intel machine. Any thoughts?

There are lots of threads on this subject if you do a search, but the answer is that you need to install Rossetta from a Snow Leopard disc to be able to run the installer. Also, I believe you need to update to 5.1.4 before you launch FCP and even then it's not a guarantee that the software will be trouble free under Lion.

Buyer claims I sold Final Cut Studio 3 with fake serial #

so I purchased a copy of FCP in 2010, from a buyer on eBay (brand new, sealed). I installed and used it for a couple years, and recently sold it on eBay. the buyer claims that the serial number sticker was "fake" and printed on a home computer. the buyer is also a reseller and claims that he can't sell this because its not an authentic serial sticker. how is this possible? I used the software with no problems for years.
I'm in the middle of an eBay dispute, and not sure what to do. I, afraid the buyer could've used my serial number and is sending me back the software, and wanting a refund. I felt that if someone purchased this as a reseller, it should be their responsibility to verify that everything is verified for them to resell. any input here? thanks for your help.

Online registration of software just sends your personal info to Apple. It's not associated with anything but a database. Apple can no more know if a serial number is counterfeit than I can. When you buy the product from an authorized Apple retailer it comes with an attached serial number required to operate the software. That's about it.
If you buy something on eBay you have no way of knowing if it is truly legitimate. You operate on faith. But we cannot resolve your issue with your buyer. That's up to eBay.

All Final Cut Studio 2 products keep prompting for Serial Number

Does anyone know how to fix this?
1) Bought Final Cut Studio 2
2) Installed it with the provided Serial Number
3) Registered
4) Opened each product - was prompted to enter name and serial number
5) Tried reopening stuff like DVD Studio Pro 4, Final Cut Pro etc.. and am re-prompted with the same blanks to enter name and serial number... this happens even when I restart the computer.
What gives?

OK, I just spoke with Apple Care and got it fixed...
I like when things work this well.
Here is my simple translation of what he told me
A) Make sure you have closed all applications.
1) go to this folder:
/Library/Application Support/ProApps/
2) Find any file that has "_SystemID" in the name
i.e. FinalCut_ProSystemID, DVDStudio_Pro_SystemID
etc... These are left over from your previous versions.
DELETE THESE FILES - yes all of them.
Empty the trash too
3) Restart Final Cut Pro and enter your Serial Number
This is nice because now ALL of Studio 2.0 is serialized!
4) Enjoy Final Cut Studio.

If you're having difficulty entering a serial number when activating your professional software product, keep these tips in mind:
* Make sure you are reading from the original serial number label that came with the product.
* Be sure to enter your first and last name, and verify there are no mistakes in the serial number field.
* Some numbers and letters look similar, so make sure you don't mistake a zero for the letter O and the number 1 for the letter i or lowercase L.
* Enter the dashes in the serial number.
* Make sure there are no spaces before or after the serial number.
* Make sure that the serial number is valid for the product you're trying to serialize, for example:
o Soundtrack serial numbers are not valid for serializing Soundtrack Pro
o Upgrade serial numbers cannot be used with Academic or Not for Resale numbers from a previous version
* If you've already serialized your application and downloading an update causes it to stop working, try removing your System ID file and enter your serial number again. The System ID file for your product is located in
/Library/Application Support/ProApps/
Remove the appropriate file for your product, then launch the application and enter your serial number again.

Upgrade Path to Final Cut Studio

I have inherited a box of oldish Final Cut Pro / Final Cut Studio discs complete with serial numbers. All official Apple products with stickers & Retail Versions.
*Final Cut Pro HD retail
*Final Cut Studio Upgrade from FCP
I've not installed them on my MBP so far as I was looking to get a new edition and was hoping to qualify for the upgrade price.
So my question is this:
Can I buy the latest Final Cut Studio Upgrade Version and just use the serial number stickers or will I need to install all the discs in turn. Also will I qualify.

If you acquired those old versions because someone else upgraded from them to a newer version, technically:
1. The old versions should no longer be used by anyone.
2. You shouldn't use them to again upgrade to a 2nd copy of a newer version.
There is no restriction in the upgrade that would prevent multiple upgrades from occurring. Let your conscience be your guide.
Caveat: I'm not a lawyer and I didn't thoroughly read the SW license agreement again.

Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade ruined my HD video files!

Okay, now I'm really puzzled. I installed Final Cut Studio 2 to upgrade my PowerMac G5. Now, all the HD footage I recorded, both in iMovie HD and in FCP 5 from my Sony HDR-FX1 camera has annoying green and red streaks that flash repeatedly. Even iMovie HD has the same problem when playing back old HD projects. The streaks also appear if I try playing the files back through Quicktime Player.
How do I know that the upgrade was the issue? As luck would have it, I still had my copy of FCP 5 installed. I opened one of the old HD projects in version 5 format in FCP 5, and the video plays back perfectly. Load the same project into FCP 6, and streaks.
Exactly how is this an "upgrade"? How do I fix?

Earlier versions of the applications in Final Cut Studio might not open or may behave unexpectedly if you use them on your computer after upgrading to Final Cut Studio 2.
When you upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2, there are a number of application-support resources that also get upgraded. Earlier versions of the applications in Final Cut Studio are not compatible with these newer support resources, and should not be used on a computer that has been upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2.

You don't need an internet connection to install Final Cut Studio.
You will be asked to register the software, but you don't have to do this. Although a reminder to register will pop up about every 4th or 5th time the software is opened.
When you use upgrade serial numbers, you usually get a warning that you need the number from a full licensed copy. Enter that and then the new serial that came with the upgrade.
