Final Cut Suddenly Stopped Recognizing my Sony HDV-FX1 - help!

I've been capturing footage from my Sony HDV-FX1 with no trouble... I'm running a brand new MacPro 8-core and using Final Cut 6.0.5...
But out of nowhere, Final Cut stopped recognizing my camera. I've got the iLink disabled - I'm choosing "Easy Setup" and choosing HDV 60i - nothing seems to work... I've tried different firewire ports... I can't get the computer to recognize the camera - which is frustrating given that the camera recognizes the cord -and the computer had been importing footage just fine for several days...
Can anyone help??

Odd... nothing was showing up in System Profiler, not even my two external drives... I shut them down, unlplugged, then replugged everything in including my camera firewire cord, started em back up, and presto!
Thanks! It worked - any clue why?

  • Final Cut Suddenly Stopped Recognizing Files It Had Recognized Before

FCE 4 has suddenly stopped recognizing certain files that it has recognized without a problem for the past several years I’ve used the program. It won’t recognize 1920x1080 mp4, but it WILL recognize 1920x1080 mov and it WILL recognize 1080x720 mp4. All .h264 codec. Using AIC 1080x60i in FCE. It also won’t recognize .jpg or .tif. There was no software update that could have thrown this off. It was a working one day, not working the next kind of situation. Files play fine in QT. Reinstalled the program. I still get the same File Error: Unknown File. Any ideas?

  • DVD Player suddenly stops recognizing and playing homemade DVDs

The DVD Player in our G5 has suddenly stopped recognizing and playing some home made movies on DVD from several friends. These discs played just fine before, but now we get a message that says "supported disc not available".
I've got the latest version of DVD Player 4.6.5. Why would it suddenly stop reading all these DVDs? Thanks for any ideas or help. Bob Krist

    My experience/opinon:
Without blaming Apple, it is a DigitalRightsManagment
problem, Apple is obligated to fullfill. You will
find that your homemade DVD plays fine on any
ordinary PC or even annother MAC-environment, just
    not on your own.
As of Mac-OS-X.46(5 not quite sure ) Support for
    UDF-Format ceased,
I believe to have read somewhere. So your DVD is
    mounted, but does'nt
    show up on the desktop.
    I am using OSX 10.4.7 (Build 8J135) DVD Player 4.6.5 (Framework 4.6.6)
Home-made video DVD-Rs work fine. DVD player starts when a disk is inserted. The disk shows up on desktop. Get Info and Disk Utility show UDF (Universal Disk Format). Finder shows the VIDEO_TS folder, .VOB files, etc. Get Info's Preview window will even play the .VOB files.
So, UDF read support is still in OSX 10.4.7 OSX has never had UDF write support except for iDVD.
I personally record movies from TV, legally. And my
solution to that problem is to create a Disk-Image,
    that I burn on a data-disc, and I don't use
    DVD-Player.
DVD Imager <http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html> will create UDF disk image files from VIDEO_TS folders. When you burn these with Disk Utility they will play in standalone DVD players and in Macs. They will start Apple's DVD Player when inserted.
Toast can also create UDF disks.
If you create non-UDF disks (e.g. with Disk Utility), most standalone DVD players will not play them and Apple's DVD player will not start automatically when the DVDs are inserted. You can still play them with Apple's DVD Player by using "Open DVD Media" from its "File" menu and choosing the VIDEO_TS folder.

  • How do I make a pic in final cut Pro stop  flickering?

how do I make a pic in final cut Pro stop  flickering?

Question: how do I make a pic in final cut Pro stop  flickering?
Answer: It depends on what is causing the flickering.  It could be due to the pixel dimensions being too large for the Sequence settings in FCP.  It could be due to thin horizontal lines in the image.  It could be due to areas of the image in high contrast with each other.   Or it could be due to a combination of several factors.
If the image is too large, reduce the pixel dimensions to a more reasonable size.
If it's due to thin horizontal lines, deinterlace the image, or slightly blur the lines in Photoshop.
If it's due to areas of high contrrast, reduce the contrast of those areas in Photoshop.
In FCP you can also try applying the Flicker filter to the image in the Timeline and/or a Gaussian blur filter with a setting of around 0.2 or 0.3

  • My time capsule suddenly stopped recognizing my computers.

My time capsule suddenly stopped recognizing both my mac book and my mac pro. It used to work fine and now every time I log into a computer I can't back up (and the time capsule has a green light). I have tried resetting time capsule but no success (maybe I am doing it wrong. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

So I have had the same problem, try this fix for Airport Extreme/Time Capsule .
Airport Utility > Select the Extreme/Time Capsule in question > Disks > Disconnect All Users
Reboot the Extreme/Time Capsule in question > once back online > goto Finder > Shared > Reconnect Drive
    > Open Time Machine Preferences > Select Disk > Use Backup disk > Backup Now

Have you tried trashing uour FCE preferences? That is usually the first step when FCE begins to act in unexpected ways. Reinstalling the app will not overwrite existing preferences - you need to trash them.
You can download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) and it will do all the work for you. Do a Google search.

  • I want to purchase a powerbook that will run a music program like MOTU or Pro Tools as well as run Final Cut Pro without being sluggish...any help?

I want to purchase a powerbook that will run a music program like MOTU or Pro Tools as well as run Final Cut Pro without being sluggish...any help?

The only way that would work out is if you ran exactly the versions that were made for old PowerBooks. Anything newer may require Intel and not run, or will strain the poor old G4 CPU.
Your needs have to be modest, too, because the problem with older music and video software is that they are not current as far as formats and codecs for the Web. If you want to output H.264, the current standard for YouTube/Flash video, older software may not support it, and in addition, H.264 is processor-intensive and is tailor-made for today's multi-core, 2+ GHz processors. It will overwhelm a G4. A PowerBook G4 can barely play YouTube videos.
More perspective: The PowerBooks worked great for miniDV format editing. In other words, 480i SD/standard definition video in use from the late 1990s to the late 2000s. If that is all you want to do, edit tape from an old miniDV camera to SD output, then OK.
But if you want to edit today's HD video, whether 720p from a snapshot camera/iPhone 4 or 1080p from a DSLR, the PowerBook and the software for it will either not recognize AVCHD/H.264, or it will slow the PowerBook to a dead crawl.
I'm in agreement with the above: Intel Macs have been out for so many years that getting a used one is a much better deal than a dead-end PowerBook. And I loved (still love) my PowerBooks.

  • Final Cut suddenly unable to capture from any source

I suddenly started having an inability to capture in Final Cut. I have always used Final Cut Express and a Sony handicam and a firewire port.
2 weeks ago when I went to capture I started getting “dropped frames” error messages. As you know, unchecking that feature in FCE or FCP simply results in video and audio that don’t match up. Anyway I tried that and it didn’t work.
I have used two other firewire cables
    I am using OS 10.5.8
in trying to fix this problem, I upgraded to Final Cut Express 4 (from 2.0)
    I trashed preferences.
I used disk repair and verify permissions
    I booted up and down
then I gave up on the sony handicam and connected my G5 to a JVC editing deck I have, the JVC SR-DVM70.
When I connect my G5 to my JVC deck through the firewire In/Out port, I get the message, “VTR OK” so the connection is there.
When I hit “play” in Final Cut, it does control the deck and makes it play—but I do not see the video in Final Cut; I only see it on the JVC deck monitor.
When I hit “stop” it does not make the JVC deck stop. The only function it seems to control is simply “Play.”
Then when I go to capture, I get the message: "unable to capture because there is no video."
I have tried several different “Easy Setup” settings, including several firewire settings (including basic firewire) and several NTSC settings and a PAL setting.
    Weird.
anybody out there a genius with this?

There is a separate forum for FCE.
Make sure you are using the correct HDV settings in FCE and that the camera is set to output HDV and not downconvert.

  • Can't open Final Cut X - Stop Responding with Event

Im working on a project for over a year, and suddenly I can't open Final Cut with my project and event.
It stops responding while loading my event.
I already changed the location of the biggest files (original media and renders), so I just have my event and my project files on the final cut folders.
I've tried to open this in another computer, but it still didn't work.
When I erase my event and project, there's no problem with Final Cut.
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you!

Why are you moving folders around?
Was FCPX acting abnormally before you moved these folders?
What do you mean by "erase  my event and project"?

  • Premiere Pro Cs5.5 suddenly stop recognizing my 24''inch second display on my imac

    Hi there,
I have Premiere Pro installed on my imac 27inch with an ATI Radeon HD 4850. 'Til yesterday it had been working properly but all of a sudden stop to playing video on my second display. If I go to the "Playback settings", either source or program monitor ones, it seems like PP can't see the display anymore. I did reboot everything, actually several times but nothing worked. Does anyone knows if there's a preference file in the mac's library that can be gone corrupted or any other solution to my issue?
I should say the display is a Philips 241E1 full hd although I don't think that is gonna make any difference. Sometimes I also plug in my Sony Bravia 40inch hdtv through a DVI to HDMI adapter and always PP recognized both.
It didn't happen while performing this operation but just while editing some stuff.
Any suggestion to this is gonna be warmly appreciated, thanks.

Ok, just to let you know in case you may encounter the same problem, 5 mins later after I've been writing this post, and after a couple of days was blasting my head off to get this sorted, here it comes the last (but worth) attempt: I decreased the resolution of my main display from 2560X1440 to 1920X1200 and left my secondary display's res to 1920X1080. Then I booted up Premier Pro and.. immediately it worked. So, with PP still on I switched back my main screen res to 2560X1440 and everything went fine. Kinda odd workaround but...

  • Superdrive suddenly stopped recognizing DVDs and DVD-Rs

Okay, I just spend 2 whole days trying to find any situation like this. Trouble shooting and experimenting.
Whilst burning a CD with Toast the process suddenly stopped during verification and an error was given. The CD spit out. It was just some music and I had work to do, so.. I went on to burning some data onto a DVD-R.
The Disk went in. Spun. Made a noise like the when a reader is trying to figure out what the media is. A Grrrrr. It spins some more. A long pause of about a minute.
Then the disk is spit out. No error. The disk is never recognized. Toast asks for blank media again. Keep in mind, just before this I was burning DVD-Rs. Same Media. Same process. Just stopped to burn the music CD.
So, I figure its bad media. I get about 1 or 2 on a spindle of disks. Usually at the bottom or the first disk. So, I put another disk in and try again.
Same thing. So, I try from Finder. Disk is never recognized. It is spit out the same way. (Thought that maybe something on Toast was corrupt)
Pretty freaked out, I put a burned DVD-R in. Nothing. Then a comercially pressed DVD. Spit out as well. (It was Elf. Which I would have spit out too) I then put a pressed CD in. (Madonna) It is recognized and iTunes starts up. The CD even plays.
I try to burn a CD-R. The process starts and when it is buring the Write out at the end it stops and gives me:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = BLANK CHECK
    Sense Code = 0x00
    NO ADDITIONAL SENSE INFORMATION
Then the disk is spit out after I hit Okay. Eeep.
Someone gives me a Maxell lense cleaner disk. Nothing to lose. I played it. Because it is a CD format. The drive recognizes it and I am able to run the clean process.
Then I got the same results. One attempt I get another error:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = HARDWARE ERROR
    Sense Code = 0x44, 0x8E
    INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE
Now all this is strange because... this is a 9 month old G5 dual with the superdrive that Apple put in it. Pioneer DVR-109 dual layer DVD-RW. There have been no unusual behavior leading up to this failure. The drive is not over used. I have not changed media.
I tested the drive with DVD-Rs from other spindles. And different brands. Including some old 1X DVD-Rs that I had forgotten in my hutch. (still sealed in there crystal cases) Same results.
So...has anyone ever experienced this with the 109? or even other drives. I can't believe it is a hardware issue because there hasn't been any previous signs of impending failure. (I have seen the deaths of several drives over the years) I am convinced that it is some obscure control files somewhere.
I ran Tech Tool Pro 4.1.1 on it and did a surface scan of a CD. The only way I could get it to recognize the drive. It reported the drive as unwritable, even though it identified it correctly. (as did System Profiler)
Sorry for the long explaination. But, I don't want to waste anyones time with avenues I have already explored.
Thanks to anyone who has some light to shed on this.
    Gord
    G5 Dual 2.3Ghz Power PC 3GB RAM, 2x120HDD, Superdrive DVD-RW dual layer   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Thanks Drew,
I have avoided the external drive option because I thought that they would be slower, or less reliable. However, we have been using those Maxtor Firewire external HDD around here and they are great. So, maybe an external DVD-R might be a good solution now.
(They used to be fairly poor options a few years ago.)
We have an Apple Store 2 blocks from my office here in San Francisco. Shiny new and it looks like a Titanium Cube. My experiences with the Genius Bar and before that Applecare have been the feeling that they spend a good deal of time trying to see how this could be my fault and not their responsibility.
Also, because I am a bit of a geek, by the time I resort to getting help from them, I have exhausted the usual "in the book" solutions. Usually, they are ill prepared for something unusual, that isn't caused by not having the power plugged in, etc.
I do customer service here for the more technical issues our customers have with Video on Demand and DVD issues. People can be really hostile when they call. So, I go out of my way to be pleasant and upbeat when I am dealing with my problems. Apple Care/Genius Bar people aren't rude or anything. I just get the feeling that they are pressured to not spend too much money making customers satisfied with their hardware. (a matter of policy is my bet)
I use my Macs because their software is unparalled in its ease of use and professional application. When I have to deal with duplication houses and their techs. I often hear a sign of relief when I tell them that I am using DVD Studio Pro to author my masters. Because this means that the DVD-Rs I send them are correct and compliant in everyway.
Apple software rocks. I am encouraged by their move to Intel chips recently for their hardware.
Thanks again Drew. I am working on the permissions today and if it looks like a hardware issue, I am off to look at an external. Great suggestion.

  • Final Cut suddenly agonizingly slow... What's going on?

Hi, I am in a bind here. My FinalCut Program (5.0.4) has suddenly started acting like its geriatric for no apparent reason. It normally starts very quickly, and just now after turning the computer off and on, restarting etc, took a god 7-10 minutes just to open. It will not allow me to perform even the simplest of tasks without giving me the spinning color-wheel action for at least 30 seconds...
Help please, I don't know what is going on here or how to sort it out....
    Thanks,
    -Tom

The original source is .M2V, but I edited using the Apple Intermediate Codec. When i started reconnecting media after using media manager to make an offline project, it took a very long time for the clips to actually re-connect and it was soon after this that Final Cut started struggling... and it has been downhill from there.
Any thoughts about media manager, or disk problems that might be causing the problem? I have had to move the source media and .mov files around in order to make space for other projects. I have heard that media manager in FCP can be tricky with this sort of thing?
    Any further suggestions appreciated.

  • Enable Final Cut Color Compatibility Further Washes out HDV!

I'm having a hard time with this.
Outputting a reference Quicktime movie (for later use in compressor, non self contained, HDV 1080i60) creates slightly washed out looking footage. Clicking the "enable FCP color compatibility" checkbox further brightens the footage! What's going on?
My monitor is at 1.8 gamma, is that checkbox further brightening my footage by bringing it up from where it's at to 1.8? This is really driving me crazy.

    Hi
Please tell more (or I'm not clever enough to get it)
Enable Final Cut Studio color compatibility
In QuickTime Player 7.6 (Mac OS X.4.11)
Under Preferences there are three symbols in my version
    General/Full Sceen/Record
And I can't find anything alike here
    Nor under the title QuickTime-preferences
which opens System-preferences and the QuickTime menu
Still nothing as FCS color compatibility.
Am I looking in wrong direktion ?
