Final Cut takes about 20 minutes to start

Hello guys,
After installing the 10.6.6 update all Final Cut programs (Final Cut Pro, Compressor, Cinema Tools) and all Logic Programs (Logic Pro, Mainstage, Soundtrack Pro) need about 20 minutes to start. After starting the programs they show up as "not responding" in the activity monitor. About 20 minutes later they finally start.
I have got the latest version of Final Cut and (Logic) installed and did a repair permission but the problem still persists.
Does anyone know this problem and how to solve it? I want to avoid reinstalling OS X...
Thank you for your help!

Hello Bengt,
Thank you for your reply! I was afraid that could be the problem, but I just checked my hard drive and found 100GB of free space.
Another strange thing is that if I close Final Cut once it finally runs, and then reopen it, Final Cut will start super fast without problems until the next reboot of the computer...

are you using sample base instruments in those projects a lot using exs or kontakt? when paths to samples get messed up for some reason it can result in along waiting times each time a project is loaded.
lately my kontakt samples get loaded without any sign of activity. if it is a large orchestral score i see a dead screen for quite a while before suddenly everything pops up and is ready to work with. i recall seeing progress bars or similar things in the past though...
repair permissions and defragging (idefrag) may help as well.
btw. i can drink as much coffee as i want late at night, even five minutes later i can sleep well. seems i am immune. but right now i am also having plenty of hardware issues to deal with so that's a good thing i guess...!

  • Strange: suddenly logic takes about ten minutes to start!

    hi!
some hours ago I worked on a logic film underscore project. so i had a quicktime movie loaded in my project.
then I opened the final cut project from which the movie was from. I don't remember if I closed the logic project before, but the actual movie file was just a bounce, not used by both of the apps.
when I tried to open the logic project later it seemed to stop doing anything just after closing the startup screen, so I thought there was a problem with final cut causing logic to crash.
As final cut always takes "hours" to check the waves plugins on every booting, I always swich between special logic- and fcp- sets in "AudioUnit Manager", a tool to have different configs of AUs for different apps or so. Never had any problem for years with that.
So I tried everything with the AU plugins. nothing.
Then I renewed logic's prefs and all that stuff. nothing. then I installed the new pro application support. HEEY! it worked again. but just for a while.
opening other (even small) projects still takes about ten minutes now. nice coffee pause..:-) but I can't drink that much coffee at night.
what can it be? a problem with the project manager?
    any suggestion?
    cheers

  • When I start my iMac up it takes about 20 minutes to start

Hi since a few weeks, whenever I reboot my iMac it takes about 20 minutes before the login screen appears.  Is it possible that a program called "daisydisk" has something to do with it?

    Hello:
If you have some third-party software (translate daisydisk) installed, remove it.  That is the first place to start.

I upgraded to firefox 6 on Monday, and rebooted the system today (friday) when I tried to open firefox 6 it took almost 5 minutes to start up, and then it was completely available for a about another minute or so.
I thought 1 of the key advantages of upgrading was that firefox 6 was suspposed to start up a lot faster.

  • Whenever I start my computer it takes about 1 minute to start? hard disk keeps continuesly working during this

During this time Hard Disk LED indicates it is on work. and firefox title bar says "not responding". But it opens normally when I reopen it after closing. And works good.

Allright, lets try one step to resolve this issue, look at the Date & Time preferences, mark the check box to Set date and time automatically, the clock and date should update by itself when the computer is connected to the internet.
If the internet is not available, then only way to set the date manually, unmark that Set date and time automatically, then there should be Revert and Save buttons visible, set the date manually and click on Save. Turn off the computer and boot it again, the date should not reset if the battery is OK.

Given you have a backup you may want to think about erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Snow Leopard then restore your backup.

  • Start of Server takes about 60 minutes (every time)

    Hi all,
Have a problem with NWCE. Every time i start the system it takes about 60 minutes until the system is up. I've tried different templates but the result is always the same.
    My hardware:
    Windows XP SP2
    4 GB of RAM
    IntelCore2 - 1,8 GHz
So what could be the problems?

    Hi,
Open MMC and double click on database instance and login with control user and then start the remaining instances.it will take less time.
Go to services.mmc in your pc and manually start the database services.

  • Once my iMac and Macbook Pro go to sleep and I start them it takes about one minute to connect to my wi-fi is there a setting change that would connect me immediately?

When my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone go to sleep it takes about one minute to connect to my wi-fi when they are awakened, is there a setting that will keep my wi-fi connected at all times?

  • My imac takes about eight minutes to be fully functional after a cold start or from the sleep mode. The hard drive sounds like it has to go through a number of gyrations before being fully loaded. When I first bought the imac start up was much faster

My Imac takes about 8 minutes to be fully functional after a restart or awakened from the sleep mode. I can hear the hard drive making a number of gyrations before it's ready to let me do stuff. This is a 5 year old machine and was much faster in the beginning. Any suggestions?

Impossible to say however it may need more RAM, or if you have been turning it off every day it isn't given the opportunity to run it's daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. This is all done in the background in the middle of the night. I would recommend following the steps in 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac until you find the cause of your slowdown.

Well, when I start working (should I say try to work with FCPX, activity monitor in the %processor column for FCPX jumps rapidly over 100% and reaches more than 200% ??? What the **** is that ?
200% or more is not strange. Remember that your mac has 4 cores (you say it's 3 months old, so I assume it is a new model), so 200% amounts to using 2 of these 4 cores to the max.
Regarding the question of creating a new admin user: while it sits in the same system, it may help if the problem is caused by some user-specific preferences or settings. Not likely in your case, since you seem to have reinstalled from scratch, but still it is worth a try. It takes 5 minutes and may help pinpoint the problem.

  • Why does Final cut takes too long on simple tasks...wierd

Hello everyone both veterans and newbies.
I've only been in the "Mac World / Final Cut " for about a year or so.
I have never, ever, ever seen a software so layered with repetative actions to achieve one function.
I'm speaking of the the so called "RT " real time effects, in my opinion, "THERE ARE NO TRUE REAL TIME EFFECTS IN FCP " ( DV or HDV )
I was in the windows world for about 6 years with the Canopus card and the Matrox card. Granted Windows was not the greatest, lockups, blue screens...etc. ( That was real time effects.)
But i at least got SOME work done.
The reasons i went to Mac was HDV and for a more stable platform.
This the Mac has lived up to beautifully ,less stress. less gray hair in the stability category, but grows right back when i go into FCP.
Is it possible that,( Proper settings DV/NTSC) i can't put a DV track 5 mins long, add a couple of dissolves and a flicker filter or a slow motion ( Not the best by the way ) and it takes almost 3/4 hour to render, then when you want to output to the deck you have RENDER the stupid thing AGAIN . ( Paying twice, who likes to pay TWICE ????!!!)
This should be a CAKEWALK for the price of the MAC and the superior ( so called ) software
Makes one almost go back to windows. ( Sorry for the foul language )
Now that i've got that off my chest. is anyone else experiencing this particular problem. I'm still humble enough to admit if i've set a wrong setting somewhere.
Just trying make this work so i can get my work done.
    1-easy setup =dv/ntsc
    2-sequence settings = 720x480 ntsc dv 3.2 16:9 anamorphic
    3-pixel aspect ratio =ntsc-ccir601 / dv
    4-compressor= dv/dvcpro-ntsc
    5-audio= 48k /16 bit / default config
    6-5.1.3 FCP updated
    Thank you
    Vic

Before you start to ASSUME anything, how do you know what i have learned or the amount of tutorials i have bought and software to educate myself ?
How do you know if i've had issues with the logic board from day 1 with APPLE ?
Unlike you, i'm trying to make it work, not stick a "For Sale " sign when things get tough.
My biggest issue is that a lot was promised, and very little delivered, lesson learned, don't believe in promises.
I want to thank you for your post, that's what this forum is for .
If i wanted to quit and sell everything i would'nt be wasting your time or David Harbsmieier's time or Maxx Power's time, who by the way helped me out quite a bit ,thank you very much.
I noticed you have 3.466 posts, you obviously have a lot of experience, i guess you've never gotten to this frustrating level before, sounds like the first time you saw a computer everything went perfect.
Sounds like you have everything under control "BUDDY"
    Kvetsch ???
    Take care

  • FCP takes 15-20 minutes to start, once it's loaded plug-ins

Once plug-ins are loaded and RT bits are done, FCP 7 takes 15-20 minutes to start. I've closed projects, I've deleted preferences, repaired disk permissions but still no joy.
Activity Utility suggests that FCP is looking for a previous files assets.
    Had anyone else experienced this?
    Many thanks

By default, FCP will try to load the last project that was active.
While 15-20 minutes is a long time to try loading even a missing project and it's media, you might try turning this option off. Click in the menu bar where you see *Final Cut Pro* in bold typeface.
    Go to User Preferences.
De-select the option "Open last project on application launch" in the General tab.
    Post back with your results.

  • My Satellite is really slow and takes about 10 minutes to logon

    Hi,
My satellite notebook is really slow and takes about 10 minutes to logon. It also takes quite some time to open up applications especially the internet. Once the internet is open, it takes quite some time to access the net. The application actually drags across the scene and it looks like a closing curtain in extra slow motion.
    Help needed.

    Hi
Did you check the CPU usage rate?
Start the task manager and check if any strange background processes needs the full CPU performance.
I would also recommend checking the notebook for some viruses and malware. Such programs could make the notebook and OS sluggish.
On the other hand the notebook hardware could malfunction.
You should check the memory using the Memtest86 program. Its freeware. Check the HDD for bad sectors and try also to defragment the HDD!
