Final cut to idvd, burning for tv EMERGENCY!!!

We have a last minute emergency deadline to burn a dvd that will play on a tv that we just can't get around. Trying to make a dvd using final cut pro hd, idvd 5.0.1. We're exporting as a quicktime conversion using h.264 for best performance. We've also tried exporting as a quicktime movie for dvdstudio pro version 1.5 and it comes up as an error of file type in dvdstudio pro.
When it plays back it starts getting all pixelated toward the middle of the film and then it even shifts to a letterboxed look from full screen about 1/2 way in. HELP! thanks so much. we have minutes left and have been working on it all week.

i did 2 small projects in iDVD, was dissapointed, did some searching and found a "general consensus" that iDVD is not up to par with professional dvd creation programs.
regarding mpeg2 ... the original poster mentioned dvdsp version 1.5, this is actually the program i "learned" dvd creation on (version 1), and was instructed to use mpeg2 only. (m2v file extension)
but, since this is only a recollection of something ancient, i could be wrong.
sorry for confusing someone if i am.

  • FINAL CUT SERVER: Is it for me?

THE FINAL CUT SERVER, is it for me?
I have a small production company, where at the moment, we only edit on one MacPro 8Core 3.0 GHz. I wanted to know if we should be interested in the Final Cut Server and why?
Secondly, can anyone tell me some brand name examples of an "AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card"? I have the ATI card that came factory with my MacPro .

Where you only have one machine, I would say at this point it would only be helpful because of the easy-to-use versioning capabilities - basically, it keeps backups of different versions of your Final Cut project so if you really screw up your edit you can restore a previous version. If you're technically inclined (or know someone who is), you could set this up yourself with a free version control system such as Subversion.
Go here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301347 to see the requirements for Quartz Extreme. It also has a walk-through to show you how you can figure out if your video card supports it via System Profiler (which it definitely is).

  • Final Cut Pro to Avid for broadcast

    Hi,
I use Final Cut Pro to produce 30 TV spots.
I dont own Beta or DVCPro50 decks so i burn QuickTime Uncompressed 8 bit files.
At the broadcast station, they drop the QuickTime movie into Avid media composer v.12.
We had 3 choices for import setting in Avid:
    1) RGB
    2) RGB Dither
    3) 601
601 gave us the more accurate image, better contrast that seemed quite the same as i saw in my FCP editing suite.
What are the best FCP export settings and best Avid import settings to avoid any shift in luma and chroma ?
QuickTime Uncompressed 8 bit is YUV ?
Is Avid able to read YUV ?
    thanks

There are currently 3 main television standards used throughout the world:
NTSC - National Television Standards Committee. The oldest existing standard, developed in the USA. First used in 1954. Consists of 525 horizontal lines of display and 60 vertical lines. Sometimes irreverently referred to as "Never Twice the Same Color." Only one type exists, known as NTSC M.
SECAM - Système Électronique pour Couleur avec Mémoire. Developed in France. First used in 1967. A 625-line vertical, 50-line horizontal display. Sometimes referred to by wags as "Something Essentially Contrary to the American Method" or SEcond Colour Always Magenta!" Different types use different video bandwidth and audio carrier specs. Types B and D usually used for VHF; types G, H, and K for UHF; types I, N, M, K1 and L for both VHF/UHF. Different types are generally not compatible.
PAL - Phase Alternating Line. Developed by German engineer Walter Bruch and the German electronic corporation Telefunken. Walter Bruch patented his invention 1963 and the first commercial application of the PAL system was in August 1967. Also a 625/50-line display and variant of NTSC. Proponents call it "Perfection At Last." Due to the cost of the enormous circuit complexity, critics often refer to it as "Pay A Lot". Different types use different video bandwidth and audio carrier specs. Common types are B, G and H; less common types include D, I, K, N and M. The different types are generally not compatible

  • Output Device Missing in Final Cut Pro while burning

Our Output device in dropdown box is now missing all of a sudden. I wanted to know how to manually resolve this issue, if anyone could assist? We were burning a DVD from Final Cut Pro 10.0.09. and we got an error message:
Not sure what happened during burning. We tried inserting a single layer disc instead of a dual layer and now we cannot view our output device in dropdown when we go to share it.  Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Do you mean your optical drive is not listed? What is listed…for example, Hard Drive?
    What are your system specs?

  • Exporting from Final Cut to iDVD

I want to exoprt a sequence out of Final Cut Pro. Ultimately it will wind up in iDVD. What export settings will create a best quality quicktime movie for iDVD coming out of Final Cut Pro (FCP 3)?
    DP 867MHz Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.25 sdram
    DP 867MHz Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.25 sdram

The apple page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164931) only gives a partial answer. First, if you are making it to watch on TV make sure you use the "title safe" setting in the canvas. You will get two blue boxes. The outer box shows what will appear on your TV screen, and I have found it to be pretty true. I have found that for my videos I need to set the scale to 90% (found under motion on the viewer) to fit the frame. I also put in chapter markers because it lets me jump around as I wish.
Next, when you go to export, Choose QuickTime movie. At the bottom of the window are three pop-up menus, settings, include, and markers. The last two are easy. Under "include" you want "Audio and Video". Under "markers" choose chapter markers if you made any. Under "setting" you can choose what you want, but I like to go to "custom" because it shows me exactly what all the settings are. For the video setting in the U.S. you want DV/DVCPRO - NTSC.
As the Apple page says, do not select "Make Movie Self-Contained." If you are going to import it into iDVD a self contained movie is pointless. It also takes much longer to export. A movie that took 35 to 40 minutes to export as a self contained movie took 5 minutes when I unchecked the box. Also, self-contained movies take up a whole lot of space.

  • Final Cut 7 - problems burning blu ray

    Hi
Got my final cut studio upgarde today. Looks quite nice. Having trouble to Share to a blu ray disk. Redering takes quite some time and during create disk the progress goes up to 60% and stops.
I use an LG Bluray burner with a SATA to ATA adaptor. No problems under MAC OS X or Toast.
    Any ideas or similar observations?
    Regards
    Rainer

My bad, it seems I did screw up the machine. I had some recent changes (ie: larger Harddisk, Studio upgrade and more) and besides the Bluray problem I did run into some other issues fe: not being able to shut down, start up problems etc. So I followed the instruction for the reset and voila the issue is resolved, FCP now even renders faster. Sorry I have to say that I am just a MAC user since one year and perhaps with a bit more experience I should have been able to resolve this much quicker.
But since the problem became visible juts after the upgrade I was sure it must have been coming form the software. I "shared" the HDV clip to blue ray, and after the much faster rendering the burning went fine.
    Regards

  • Compressing final cut file to burn

Could someone please help me? This is my first time on this forum so hopefully I am posting correctly.
I have a FCP project that I am trying to burn for a friend to be copied onto those little business card DVDs. The disk only holds 5min/50mb. I have compressed the file down to about 30mb but every time I burn it in iDVD it triples in size therefore surpassing the 50mb maximum.
Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.

It is just under 5 minutes in length and was 1.4GB.
Do you mean that you exported a QT file with "Current Settings" that was 1.04 Gb?
I compressed using QuickTime Coversion (I have not learned how to use Compressor yet.) I tried a million different combinations to get it to the size I needed and ended up with a 320 X 240, H.264 with 150 fps which resulted in a 30MB file.
There is no need to do this. iDVD will compress it to the proper format for DVD, which is mpeg2. By doing it this way you are compressing it to a format that will not work on a DVD (unless you are just trying to create a Data only DVD) and then iDVD is then trying to create an mpeg2 file to go on a DVD. That's why you are getting crazy file sizes.
Now you said that you want this on a Business Card sized DVD. I do not know if the file that you get out of iDVD will fit. iDVD doesn't give you much control of the final file output. It defaults to giving you the best quality that will fit on a 4.7 GB DVD. I don't use iDVD much so you may want to look for a setting that will allow you to set your output to the smaller DVD.
Best thing for you to do is to dig into the manuals and learn how to get footage into FCP and how to use Compressor to get it out. You are really going about things backwards here by going from iMovie to fcp to idvd.
Finally, if you have gotten just a plain old QT file out of FCP (FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE - Current Settings, Make movie Self-Contained) then just drop that file into iDVD and let it do the work.
    Good Luck,
    K

  • Final Cut won't open for a project

I can open Final cut Pro HD But I cannot open my project After adding 10 Livetype titles. Every time I try to open the project the application crashes at 13% of reading the project. I can open other projects but not this one. The Project is only 30 minutes long. I Tried going into my library and deleting the Com apple final cut pro plist and the data folder but it did not help. I also deleted the livetype titles that I created off of my hard drive and I have have the same problem. Does anyone Know how to delete Livetype titles from a project without openng Final cut pro or how to resolve this problem. Please Help.

Should I delete all of the render files for that project. One thing that I did do, since I worked on the project from my G4 laptop on a Lacie External drive, I tried opening the project up on my g5 desktop computer where there was no render files and the project still would not open. Is there any kind of way to delete livetype titles from the project without opening it.

  • Can I use Motion 5 without Final Cut Pro but maybe for iMovie?

Hi guys, if I buy Motion 5 can I use it to create a project without Final Cut Pro or X or what ever?! And can I create transitions for iMovie?
    Thanks

Stelo08, yes, Motion will export in a handful of formats.
h264 is the most popular, but did not support transparency, which you would likely want if you wanted to do lower thirds (titles).
Motion will export in prores 444 which which supports transparency, but I do not know if it works in imovie.
(I tried it in Camtasia 2.3 and it did not there, but it seemed to work in ScreenFlow 4.03)
Additionally, you can import video footage into Motion, so worst case scenario, you could pull a shorter scene into motion, do your overlays, export that scene and then add it back into imovie.

  • Final Cut Studio Keeps Asking For Serial Number

I use an imac. I currently use final cut studio 3. After approx. 2 maybe 3 weeks the software will stop working. It boots up to the registration screen. I will enter my name and the orginal serial number but it tells me the serial number is not valid. What is causing this and how can I prevent? If I unload software and reload, it works but will kick me out again after uses.

Go to the following location: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps.
Delete the file Final Cut Studio System ID.
The next tme you launch one of the apps it will ask for your serial number - hopefully for the last time.
If it happens again, something is causing that file to be corrupted, probably by writing its own data there.
Try the above anyway, it might just stick this time.

  • Not Final Cut to IDVD but IDVD to Final Cut

Can I import the intros from IDVD to Final Cut Express? Either HI Def or not. If so, will chapter  buttons transfer?  If not , can I at least import the intros to Final Cut Express. I can't make anything as nice myself in Final Cut Express.

No. The intros are templates that only exist in iDVD. They get embedded into an iDVD menu.

  • Final cut server-Test Page for Apache installation comes up when IP put in

I have installed Final Cut Server on our Mac Pro Running OSX Leopard. Installation succeeded, but when I type in the IP address of the server in safari, the "Test Page for Apache Installation" comes up. This happens on every computer on the network. I need the client installation window to come in order to install the client. What am I missing, what settings need to be changed?
    Would greatly appreciate some help.
    Thanks

So when you type in the URL your using this format http://hostname/FinalCutServer, where hostname is the IP address or name of the computer on which you installed Final Cut Server? Especially the "FinalCutServer" part.

  • What is the latest version of Final Cut Pro or Express for PPC G5

I think I am to the point that iDVD and iMovie don't help. Do I have any FCP options available?

Final Cut Studio 2...that includes FCP 6. But finding it to buy NOW will be tricky. Pretty much only eBay at this point.

  • HT5127 how do i get the final cut pro X trial for an additional 30 days

My trail 30days for Final Cut Pro X expired but I remember reading that you can get it for an additional 30days is this true?

There are 2 ways  .............   you buy a new Mac (or use a different one) and the trial will work for a further 30 days.
This way you can keep using the trial forever, but it will cost you around £1000 every month to renew your computer.
The other  way that is free  ............  at the end of each month you completely erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS and all the apps etc.
