Final Cut training disc

I am trying to learn Final Cut Pro. I bought the book Final Cut Pro from Peachpit. I have Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 and Apple Pro Training Series - Final Cut Pro 6 - lesson files DVD 1/08. I loaded the files on a hard drive as instructed in the book. When I try to open these files in Final Cut Pro the files refuse to open and I get the message: “file format is too new for this version of the application” I have tried two dual processor Macs with the same result I sent an email to Peachpit Press technical support over a week ago and left a message on their answering machine since they refused to answer the phone during business hours. Does anyone our there know the answer to this problem??? Perhaps Peachpit would be kind enough to answer. Thank you to anyone who can help. John

You can update to FCP 6.0.2 to have project files open or if you're reluctant to update your software version for whatever reason you can download the lesson files HERE that will open on FCP 6.0.1
Hope that helps!

  • Lost one of my Final Cut Pro Discs - Can support help me?

    Hi,
Just got a new macbook pro and am installing a copy of Final Cut Studio 2 on it. (Previously had an old G5 where I installed studio)
It's a registered, official copy of Final Cut Studio 2 (Academic) and I can't seem to find 2 of my discs. Is there anything support can do for me? Or am I screwed?

Give Apple care a call and plead your case. Their number is included with the documentation that came with the software. Only they can send you replacement disks.
If you purchased it from a store, having the information about where you purchased the software including a receipt would probably be useful. If you bought it used from a person, I'd say you have a much lower chance for relief.
    Good luck.

  • Transferring Final Cut Training DVD to HD and then playing from HD

Does the latest (Aug 07) MacBook Pro come with any software that is able to play the contents of Final Cut Pro Studio 2 training DVD after it's contents have been copied to a folder on the HD? I did that to save wear on my Optical Drive and now I can't figure out how to play it . Any help greatly appreciated.

Open up DVD player, then go to file>open DVD media
A dialog box will appear. Find where your folder is where you have copied the DVD to your hard-disk and choose the VIDEO-TS folder. Click on "choose", The DVD player will then start but will show a black screen. Press play on the remote window and the DVD will play.

  • Lost my Final Cut Pro disc, but I have the serial/license number

So basically I want to take my final cut pro off of one computer and put it on another. But I don't have my disc, I do have the serial/license number so is there anyway I can install it on my other computer without the disc? Or is there anyway to get a replacement disc? Thanks for your help.

    Nick Holmes wrote:
A few weeks ago, I suggested to someone here who was in the same predicament that they contact Apple with proof of purchase to see if they could get replacement discs. They were told that this was not an option.
So how do you lose $1300 worth of software discs in the first place? Doesn't something kick in that says "these have to be put in a safe place" ?
Mine are in a deposit box at the bank along with my Adobe stuff and Cinema4D discs -afterall, I invested several thousands of dollars in them.
    This must be something new.
I unfortunately lost my disks 3 years ago and Apple, with proof of purchase replaced them.

  • Backing up Final Cut Studio discs

    Hi:
I traditionally back up all original software discs--just in case. When I try to back up my Final Cut Studio Disks, however, something weird happens. It'll take 45 minutes to copy them to my hard drive for burning. But when I burn the disk, it's only a 1.7 MB .rtf file. Is back-up prohibited?
    Thanks!

Insert one of the discs into your computer.
Launch Disk Utility -it's in the Applications/Utilities folder.
Click on the DVD name (for example: Install Final Cut Studio) at the bottom of the disk list, on the left side of the Disk Utility window.
Go to File in the menu bar, then *New > Disk Image from > Install Final Cut Studio*.
In the next window, click on the *Image Format* button and choose *DVD/CD Master*.
Do not change the name offered in the Save dialog.
You can set the save destination to anywhere that you want.
When it is completed, click the Disk Image "Install Final Cut Studio" in the lower left part of the Disk Utility window. Click the Burn button. Follow onscreen instructions.

  • Lost Final Cut Pro Disc - Have Serial Number - What to do?

We have FCP Studio 5.1 and we have our serial number and all proof of purchase etc. We got a new computer and somehow have lost the discs. Is there a place to get, purchase, or download just the software and then we can enter our serial number to activate it and register it. Thanks.

Contact Apple at its main number with your proof of purchase.
Also, file a claim with your insurance company.
    Good luck.

  • I have lost my Final Cut Express Disc

I have 1 registration left on my FCE program. I have my registration number written down with all the others in a safe place - but during the move, I seemed to have lost the actual disc. I have the program running on my older G4, but I would like to stop carrying around both computers and install it on my MBP. Is there some way to transfer FCE over from computer to computer and then just re-enter my authorize code? Or do I need a physical disc to install it and then re-register it?

You can't just copy the application over from one computer to another. It does need to be installed from the disc because there are system components that install into specific locations. Before you try to hack it you might want to call Apple support and see if there is anything that can be done.

  • New iMac and Final Cut Pro Error

Just got a new 20" iMac. It comes with a ATI Radeon XT graphics card. I used Migration to transfer all apps and files from my old 17" iMac G4. When I launch Final Cut on the new iMac I get the following configuration error message:
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing. AGP graphics card.
Re-installing Final Cut from disc gives the same message.
Anyone have any suggestions? If this iMac doesn't work with Final Cut I will be taking it back immediately.
    Thanks

For anyone else that is having problems with FCP 4/4.5 then check this out
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
I posted my problem over in the FCP discussions and someone gave me this link which works perfectly.
Instead of deleting the strings that are listed, there is one for an AGP graphics cards:
    <key>AELRequiredIOPCIDevice</key>
    <string>AGP</string>
just delete those two lines and save the file and you're set. You'll have to do this for both FCP and Compressor, I"m not sure about Cinema Tools b/c I don't have it loaded on my mac so you may want to check that out.

  • Final Cut HD Tutorial Problem

After reading some of the responses to what were called "Dumb Questions," I'm reluctant to add mine to the list...but here goes. I'm new to Mac...although quite proficient with PCs and audio editing...so I'm not a novice there...however, something as simple as the "Save Project As" required in the tutorial has me stumped. As soon as I browse to the location of the Final Cut Training files, copied from the tutorial DVD to the Macintosh HD, the Save button previously highlighted, grays out, as if the folder was protected, write only. I checked the info on the file and it is clearly Read/Write. So that's not it. Any suggestions. Sorry to ask a dumb question. I'll await a brilliant answer.

Check that YOU have rights to the file/directory - sometimes when you copy stuff directly from a DVDROM/CDROM, you may not have rights. Or save it to another area (your Documents directory, maybe)...

I read this http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/solvingmissing_framework_errors_in_final_cutstudio.html but I don't have my Final Cut Studio disc here or have Final cut on another machine.
I downloaded ProKitUpdate4.5.dmg from Apple support but when I try install it - it says "Alert - Your machine doesn't need this update"
Please Please any help would be extremely helpful, I'm really stuck and don't really know what to do.

When I go to start, Logic crashes and reports that it's a DIGIDESIGN CORE AUDIO problem.
I wonder if you have this file on your machine:
    Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin
If you move it to the desktop, does Logic still crash?

  • Can't get Final Cut to recognize my camera.

I have a Canon VIXIA HF11 High def video camera and I can't get Final Cut Pro to recognize it. I don't have a firewire connection on the camera. It is a USB 2.0. I assume this is the root of the problem. iMovie recognizes the camera and imports the files. Does anyone know of a way to get the files into Final Cut? Thanks!

Might I suggest a training DVD
    http://www.classondemand.net/media/final-cut-training/fcp7.aspx
This is an AVCHD camera. You need to use the log and transfer function with the correct settings. You should not use iMovie for capture as it captures in an older codec that's not very good. In FCP7 you can capture in ProRes or ProRes LT, both of which are superior.

  • Compressor 2.0 Crashes, Closes Final Cut Project

Now, details will be sketchy on this, but a friend of mine just sent me a text message saying his editing machine is having issues with Compressor 2.0. When he loads up a project, and it starts to encode, Compressor crashes, and then the project closes on its own in Final Cut. He is running Mac OS X v10.3.9, and Final Cut 5.0.4. I asked him if the studio he is at has the Final Cut setup discs and they do not.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm familar with the internals of OS X, but not really the Pro Apps. My first idea was to reload Final Cut on the machine, but if he doesn't have the discs, I'm not sure where to go.

Before deciding to go for extreme solutions tell your friend to export the edit as QT movie self-contained (NOT QT conversion) or reference (self-containe unchecked).
Then import that into compressor, this way FCP and Compressor will work independently.
Let us know if that works,
If not tell us what format you are working with and what QT version you have as that might reveal important clues.

  • Apple Final Cut Express 3.5 on Lion doesn' t work

    Hello everyone,
My Lion runs great, but I've now bought Apple Final Cut Express 3.5 andwhen I try to install it it says: "You can use the" FinalCutExpress.mpkg "not open, because the PowerPC programs will no longer be supported." Cansomeone help me and does anyone know how to Lion "uninstall" again?
    Sorry for my bad English

I know this babowa has had their question answered, but I thought this could be helpful to others.
If you have just one hard drive in your computer (12 steps - total time: about an hour):
    1.  Go to Disk Utilities and select your hard drive.
    2.  Click the partition tab, click and drag the current partition smaller by about 20 GB (if you have it to spare)
    3.  Click the + at the bottom (it should fill the blank space remaining), select the new partition, name it "New_Snow", set the format of the new partition to Mac OS Extended, and then click "apply".
    4.  Insert your Snow Leopard disc, and reboot holding down the C key (this should boot to the installer).
    5.  In the installer, select the "New_Snow" partition that you created (NOT THE BIG ONE WITH ALL YOUR STUFF ON IT), click the customize button when you see it and deselect everything - this installs just the base operating system and will be the quickest.
    6.  When the computer reboots, hold down the "Option" key, and select the "New_Snow" partition to boot to.
    7.  Once in the Snow Leopard OS (can check by seeing if Launch Pad is in the dock), insert the Final Cut Express disc, and install it and whatever else you want to your "New_Snow" Partition.
    8.  Open the apps, register them, and enter in the CD key.
    9.  Use the software updater (found in the apple menu) and choose to update anything associated with Pro Apps and Final Cut Express.
    10. Reboot.  Hold down the Option key again, and select the Lion partition this time.
    11.  After you have booted into Lion, go to Applications>Utilities>Migration Assistant, and select the following settings:
      a.  From another Mac, PC, Time Machine Backup...
      b.  From a TimeMachine backup or another disk.
      c.  Make sure your "New_Snow" disk is selected.
      d.  Deselect everything but Applications, and continue with install.
    12.  If you want, keep the other partition as a backup (it has FCE on it already and everything) or use DiskUtility to remove the 2nd partition, and resize your Lion partition back to full size.
Here is the short version of this method for people who know how to partition hard drives and do reboots, etc:
    1.  Create a new partition on your hard drive
    2.  Install just the base SL OS to the new partition
    3.  Boot into your new SL installation, install FCE, open it and register it, and run the FCE-associated updates
    4.  Boot back into Lion, and use the Migration Assistant to transfer only Applications from the SL partition to the Lion partition.
Total time spent using this method is about 1 hr + (including FCE updates).
5 mins to set up the new partition
20-25 mins for the base OS install
10-15 mins for the FCE install
      10 mins for updates
5 minutes to transfer apps from the SL partition
    Notes:
I bet the "install Rosetta Stone" method would have worked too, but I didn't try it.  I already had a second partition set up on my computer with Snow Leopard; so, all I had to do was boot to it, do the FCE install, then transfer it to my Lion install with the migration assistant.
Hope that helps someone else who doesn't want Final Cut Pro X or doesn't/can't afford the upgrade for $400.  I figure even if it took you 4 hours to do, you're still likely saving $100 per hour.
    FCP X download - 3 hrs
    Installation - 15 minutes
Immediate learning curve issues, etc. - a few more hours
    Updates - 30 mins
total alternative cost about 8 hrs and $400.
    Good luck to all.

  • TS1110 How do I reinstall Final Cut Studio 7

    1. I used FCS_Revover to uninstall Final Cut Studio 7, and I deleted all files in Library/Receipts.
    2. Used my Final Cut Studio disc to re-install, entered my name, serial number,... upto "installation type" step, Final Cut Pro is set to "skip".
What else should I do to be able to reinstall Final Cut Pro 7?

    1. Get the free "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) and trash FCP's preferences.
    2. Make sure all hard drives on your system have at least 15% of their total capacity as free space.
    3. Make sure you've not set your OS drive as your Scratch Drive.
    4. Run Disk Utility to repair all drives.
    5. Run Disk Warrior if none of the above helps.
It's very rare that you need to re-install a Mac app to make it work right.  Most problems like yours can be solved much more easily, and are due to issues a re-install won't help.

  • How long does final cut studio crossgrade mail take?

Hey there, forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this.
I sent in my final cut studio discs with filled out form in about 4 days ago regular mail.
I scanned the discs before i sent them off and of course I still have my paperwork (serials) and all that.
What bothers me is that I check the status and there is no record of it.
there is also a field that is required for "company" and I dont have a company name so I have no idea if this is screwing up the whole look up.
Anyway, its probably that they havent recieved my discs yet, since 4 days isnt very long.
BUT, can anyone clue me in on how long it took to get their universal versions nial cut studio?

It took mine almost 2 weeks. It took almost a week for mine to show up on the status and when it did, it said backordered. Stayed that way for 4 or 5 days, then got an e-mail saying they had been shipped. Got them this past Saturday.
Company name doesn't matter. I didn't fill in one on the original form and didn't when used the status form.
