Final cut update corrupted my data files

I downloaded the new update to Final Cut X
.. everythinng was working fine before this download... and I thought it was working fine after it.. i edited a video.. and it was working fine.. but when I went to export it.. it wouldn't export. I clicked on Youtube.. and nothing happened... i couldn't see anything working.
So i went to export it as a master file to see if that would work... and then it told me I had to update old files to make things work.. and it then told me i have corrupted files ( 2 of them)... I tried to just delete them but it won't let me..
So i tried to contact Apple... and the Final Cut support team wants $800 to answer questions.. or $100 per question. For a $299 program? .. seriously?
anyway..
I can't delete these files.. can't fix things.. i went to the Library folder and reset the preferences and still nothing works.. it now just says FInal cut is shutting down because to maintain the integrity of other files..
does anyboidy know what to do?
I don't exactly want to have to spend $800 for a problem that APPLE created with their download. They created the problem and they won't fix it. I find that incredibly arrogant. If their download created the problem shouldn't they help fix the problem?
in any case.. anyone have a solution ?

No, actually not. That is exactly what is seen again and again and again when the HD index becomes corrupted!
I have seen people wonder 'where did that file go.. oh, I will find it latter...' and a [day|week|month] latter, the complete disk is useles.
If you are VERY lucky, Disk Utility will try to fix it, but it might only do so. The problem with D.U. is that it tries to repair the current index, not rebuild it.
Only tool I have ever found to be able to do so, is DiskWarrior.
And to my knowledge, FCPX does not have any rutines to delete the files during the update! It will ask to update the Event & Project files, but that is only the XML files, not the media files!
This screems: BACKUP NOW and do NOT write any other file to the disk! That is, if you have anything valuable on the disk...

Final Cut sometimes creates a 2nd file with a "-v" suffix when capturing

When I capture from dvcam tapes in Final Cut Pro 5, the capture file is sometimes splitted into two files, the first one with the specified name and the second one, much smaller, with the specified name plus "-v" appended as a suffix. If I delete the second file, the first file may or may not be still readable. I don't know why it appends: I've searched in the FC manual and in several forums, but haven't found anything...
My questions are: What is the purpose of this second file? Under which circumstances is it created?

Maybe I'll have to be more precise... This is not an issue for me, I can deal with those files: I don't even have to include the second file in my project in order to make it work without complaints, but I have to consider referencing this file in a CMS, so assumptions about what the file is for are not enough. I need to have a clear definition for this file. If someone could tell me whether this situation is avoidable wouldn't hurt (and would be appreciated), but I already have to deal with thousands of video files, ~1% of them splitted as I explained above.

So today I finished a project: Share >Export > as a pro res 422 and I'm now burning with iDVD as we speak. FCPX is still doing background rendering! I hope my DVD turns out ok....

You don't need to render before export.
Rendering is for playback.
If your project plays OK from the storyline, you can safely turn off rendering in preferences.

The XML format Premiere uses is not supported in FCPX. The only way I know of that may work is to go through FCP7 and then use 7toX to get to FCPX.

Most likely the file cannot work directly in FCE.

Final Cut crashes when importing AVCHD files

Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 crashes when I try to import AVCHD files in the Log and Transfer window (Add clip to queue, etc.). Any help appreciated.

Found the resolution for my problem;
FCP currently (As of 22/10/08) only supports the bottom data rate at 1080i from AVC-CAM cameras. Anything else will crash the program.
Also needs 10.5.5 and 6.0.4

I have recently moved my Final Cut 7.0.3 rig to a new computer on Lion (old had Snow leopard) and am having trouble with files in .XMF format reading as missing. When I reconnect them I get timecode errors. Any plug-ins I need or updates I'm missing?

The only way FCP can read .MXF files is if you have a third party app installed...either Calibrated, or MXF4Mac or Raylight.

Final Cut Express Log and Transfer files not playing audio on another mac

I recently purchased a new Mac Pro for video editing for work, and am having some issues with it. Previously i was working on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.4.11, on Final Cut Express 4.
I used Log & Transfer to get the AVCHD videos from my Canon HF 11 onto my mac, and had no issues. Where my problems started was when I moved my video files to my new Mac Pro running OS 10.5.6. Now when I open those video files in either Quicktime or FCE, the VIDEO plays but _not the audio_. I thought maybe the video files were bad, but when I tried the original files on the new Mac, they still didn't work. I don't know if there's some codec that isn't on the new mac or if there's some other problem... I just know that my new amazing machine cannot play the files that my 3 year old one can. I'm not new to computers, but I'm not an Apple guru. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I can try trashing the files, but I can't log and transfer the files again, as it's months of footage that aren't on the camera anymore. But i did find something else out. The files that were recorded with the camera's built-in mic recording is fine and with sound, but the files that I used my wireless mic setup had no sound. I don't know why that is, because they worked fine on the MacBook Pro. I tried log and transferring a new clip on the Mac Pro wit;h footage using the wireless mic, and still no sound.

I am using 10.0.5. Which is the latest version Of Final Cut Pro X. I export my project out as a XML in FCPX. Then went into Logic 9 clicked on import then selected XML how ever the XML file was grey and Logic wouldn't come up as a valid XML to import. Please help me! Thanks

AFAIK Logic 9 can't import the form of XML that FCP X outputs.
There may be other ways to bridge the gap, but since I don't use Logic 9 I can't help further.

How to get Final Cut to honor EXIF data of photos? (Specifically: rotation)

I've got a ton of photos I need to drop into FCE. The camera automatically rotates the photos via EXIF data. When I insert them into FCE, it makes my portrait photos show up as landscape. Adobe Bridge, Photoshop, iPhoto... all honor the EXIF data and display the photos properly.
I've got a ~15 minute piece to put together, mostly photos of about 4 seconds in duration. Rotating them manually is extremely tedious.
Is there any way to get FCE to honor EXIF data?
On a side note, in FCE, is there any easy way to do ken burns effects? The motion editor is tedious compared to other apps.

I just discovered that iMovie supports it if you import from iPhoto. I might just do these sections in iMovie, then export it, drop it into FCE... not using the XML feature, as I found it really doesn't work as advertised.
The Past Attributes function may work, thanks. I saw that in other threads too. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some way to get the EXIF data to be read.

If you have an AVCHD camcorder, you need to select one of the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec Easy Setups in FCE that matches how you shot the video in your camcorder. (eg, AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60 would be appropriate for camcorders produced for North America unless you selected some other video type in the camera's setup.) After selecting the appropriate Easy Setup, create a new sequence then import the video from your camcorder.
If you only have the .mts files themselves (perhaps because you copied them to your hard drive without their entire surrounding AVCHD folder structure), that's another matter. In that case you need Clipwrap or similar app to transcode the .mts files to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec before importing them into FCE. You still need to have the correct easy setup in FCE.
It would help to know exactly what make/model camcorder you have, and what model Mac and versions of OS X and QuickTime.

Final Cut Pro 5.1 project files backwards compatibility

I have just installed Final Cut Studio HD (universal) onto my new Macbook Pro 2ghz. I also run an iMac G5 2ghz which has been my main editing platform for the last year or so.
I decided to port some of my current projects over onto my MacBook Pro and when opening them in FCP 5.1 I am greeted with a prompt asking me to change the project file format and that I should do a "save as" once the project has been converted for use in 5.1.
This is slightly scary, mainly becasue projects now created on my MacBook Pro cannot seemingly be copied over and worked with on my iMac G5 the warning "File's format is too new for this version of the application" is displayed and allows me to go no further. I am assuming there may be some work around for this, but just wanted to warn anyone who was upgrading that this may disrupt workflow between FCP 5.1 and older versions of FCP systems. If you work on one system this is clearly not an issue.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and have they found a workaround?

I would assume that Exporting to XML in 5.1 would produce an XML file that would Import fine into the Browser of a new project in a 5.0.4 system.
What I would do is duplicate the FCP 5.0.4 project files and open the duplicates in 5.1. That way, you still have project files that will open in FCP 5.0.4.
Because of some of the 'issue' fixes in 5.1, there might be some problems taking an XML list back into 5.0.4. But we'll only know that as we start seeing user reports.

5.1 surround audio into Final Cut Studio out to AVI file with 5.1 surround?

Someone wants to give me a 5.1 surround sound audio file for importing into my Final Cut Studio project, then I export my video (now with 5.1 surround) out to an AVI file with the 5.1 surround sound intact. How do I do this?

I also have this problem...
Purchased an HD TV show (Nip/Tuck) and selected the alternate audio track labeled "Surround Audio" and got that digital audio "NOISE".
Regular audio sounds fine - can play iTunes music and system sounds sound good, just can't select the alternate "Surround" audio track without getting the noise.
I'm on an "older" MacMini - Intel CoreDuo using the SPDIF optical output into a Pioneer 5.1 receiver set to the appropriate Optical input and "Dolby Digital". I attempted to change the audio input processing on the receiver...all of which have the noise described by others...
Would LOVE a solution to this problem...
