FInal Cut wont start up: URGENT!

Everytime I click on the FCP icon in either my dock or applications, it begins the start up and the little start up info window pops up to start running through all the plugins etc... then it just quits out. No error explanation nothing. It just stops loading. I have a deadline pending so any help ASAP please!
FCP HD 5.0.4
Thanks!

Hi Erika,
You could try this:
Move your project folder into your Shared Folder (Users>Shared)
Create a new profile on your Mac
Try opening FCP in your new profile
Reconnect your media
and hopefully this is an emergency workround

  • Help, My final cut wont start...

I tryed to start up final cut after removing my Lacie Drives and it wont work now. Even after putting them back in it still wont boot up. I dont know what to do, I tryed deleting it from my applications and it still wont work. Any suggestions?

What error message(s) are you getting? How is the application behaving when you try to start it up? Are you starting up by double clicking the application or an existing project?

  • Help Please! My Harddrive crashed and Final Cut wont start!

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I was wondering if somebody could give me some advice on what to do if one's Harddrive crashed, was deconnected from the Computer and now Final cut Express HD asks me to reset volumes when I start the programme? If I do so would I loose any data on my new External Harddrives?
One of my Hard drives crashed last week when I was trying to burn a movie on DVD and I have a new one now, Final cut used to use two of my Hard Drives, one of which is still working- but it wasn't used as a source anymore when I crashed last week, since it was full...would my new Hard Drive and the old Hard Drive be affected by this command?
I know it is a bit complicated, but Thank you very much for your help!

Thank you very much for your reply...
The problem was the following, my PowerBook has a 60 GB capacity for saving things (please excuse my terminology)...that wasn't enough so I connected external harddrives to save my media files and movies etc etc. The hard drive that contained my media files is fine, but the one with the edited version of the movies crashed and deleted everything. So I got a new harddrive and started over...got no message, imported the media files into a new project and edited again, but this new harddrive crashed again and deleted everything too. So I wanted to start over once again with a new harddrive today and connected both the new harddrive and the one with the media files to the Powerbook, but suddenly when starting Final Cut Express, this message appeared:
In order not to loose any data this path is neccessary: ''The name of my deleted harddrive that isn't connected to the computer''- missing and I have three options: Quit, Retry or Reset Volumes
Now I should maybe specify that while I was editing the last time, I frequently got the message that my memory was full and I should choose a different hard drive for FCE to do the automatic saving on, so I selected my larger new hard drive(the 2nd one that crashed) as opposed to the selected one from before with my media files on it, which had reached the end of its capacity (in 'Settings' or 'PreSettings').
Now my worry is that something will be reset on my old and new new hard drive that I don't want to be reset, but I cant edit my movie if I don't find a solution to this...I'm so sorry about this being very confusing probably...but Thank you very much in advance for your help!

  • My final cut wont let me download my footage.....why?

ok first let me say that to fix this i can delete final cut and start over however i cant seem to delete all of final cut. the main bulk of it is hiding someplace and i cant seem to get it all. very frustrating. i have used "FIND" and delete everything that had final-cut and yet still the main part of it still was there. if you know how to delete it all let me know.
but here is the problem. I have a mini panasonic cam and when i go to download. i go "apple8" and then when i try and play my footage. it plays 3 seconds of it and freezes. its not the camera i know this 100%. but i dont know why it does this. i have checked the video pref. and its all correct in audio and video. i need help and im just running out of choices. my last and final is to start my computer totally over because i cant get all of final cut to delete. that would be a super pain in the butt. i hope someone know whats going on or know how to delete FCP 100% so i can start over and down load from scratch.

What panasonic camera? Tape based, or tapeless? If tapeless, I have a tutorial:

  • Final Cut wont recognize when i push esc when capturing now.

Final Cut wont recognize when i push esc when capturing now on an uncontrolled device.
    help.

I have captured from a VHS player thru a camcorder to FCP, but never experienced a Capture Now not stopping after pressing the ESC key. I did a quick search and found a question similar to yours. The following suggestions are mostly from a response posted by Tony Gay:
    1. Trash the FCP preferences. Try Preference Manager for doing that if you don't already have it.
    2. Run Disk Utility and select Repair Disk Permissions
    3. Check your System Prefs, make sure that your Energy Saver settings are so that the system stays awake and disks do not power down.
    4. The FCP preferences will need to be reset. If using Capture Now, check that it is not limited, reset your drives and etc.
    5. Check that the codec of the camera/tape match the setting that you are capturing with.
    6. Try capturing a short piece using Log and Capture...
    7. Try Capture Now.
The person with the problem posted back reporting that after doing the above, ESC was again working with Capture Now.
    Good luck.

  • Final cut wont open and keeps disappearing while loading

Since friday, I am trying to open final cut and wont let me, it disappears as soon as it starts loading. I restarted the mac so many times and I have reinstalled final cut and nothing. keeps disappearing.
    any thoughts?

Before the long winded uninstall / reinstall hoopla, did you just try trashing your preferences? Might be all you need. You can do it manually of course but the free Preference Manager tool from Digital Rebellion handles it easily plus allows you to create preference set backups and more : http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm

  • HT202412 I want to delete all my files in Final Cut and start fresh.  Will that be accomplished by deleting application and reinstalling? I am worried all the media will be there again.

If I reinstall the Final Cut X app, will all my media be there?  I want to get rid of it all.  Files are missing, etc.  A hot mess.  Seems easier to just start over but I don't want that media to show up again.  Thanks.  Must have had a bad day when I made my username here.   Sorry.

The operation can’t be completed because the item “com.apple.FinalCut.LSSharedFileList.plist” is in use.
I got this message as I tried to empty trash.  Final Cut X is not open.  How do I get rid of this puppy?  Thank you.

  • Final cut wont open AGP  card?

my Final Cut express wont open and it says it is due to no AGP graphics card, wut does that mean and how can i fix it?

The simplest thing to try first, is to hit the "esc" key when you get the error message.
If that doesn't work then you can try editing the info.plist as described in the thread Joe gave you - it sounds complicated but it is dead simple and won't take a couple of minutes.
Some folks claim they have merely deleted the info.plist and it has worked. You can't do any harm because FCE is safe on its Installation DVD and it is the program not the computer you are fiddling with.

  • Final cut wont render

I've just come across a strange problem. Final Cut will no longer render out. When I click on render all, render video, etc, the task window bar pops up for a split second as it would when rendering, and then closes. I've tried rebooting, trashing preferences, and still nothing. My Final Cut is 5.0.4. There is plenty of room for render. it just wont. Any ideas? Thank you.

I don't know if this will help or not but...
I had a similar issues like this once. My issues were slightly different.
I work in DV NTSC. I use a lot of effects on my clips. I switch over to unlimited RT from Safe RT (Using the little RT button top left on the timeline) If you're in Unlimited RT mode you don't have to Render Unrendered footage to see it. FCPro will play through it as best it can. It'll be a bit jumpy but at least I don't have to render all the time. The kicker is that FC won't let me "render by selection". I get the same issues your describing. A little render window will flicker on screen for a second and then be gone and no rendering will occur.
In my case I either need to "render all" or switch back to safe RT mode and render by selection.
Like I said I don't know if this will help at all but worth a shot.
    Good luck.

    You either need to either:
    1) use the following hack -
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
    or
    2) Upgrade to FCP 5

  • Final Cut not starting up on new computer

I recently had my computer stolen. I had installed final cut hd on that computer which was stolen. I replaced the computer and installed Final Cut Express HD on the new one.
Now, when I try to open final cut express, it starts to open, and then it stops and does not open.
Can anyone advise me on what to do?
I'm on an iMac OX 10.4.10

Hi, Is that an upgrade, you are trying to install and not the original program?
Sorry to hear about you having your laptop stolen. Would not like that one bit.All Dave

  • Final Cut wont open.....

hello.....i recently tried to open my Final Cut Pro after not using it for 3 weeks and subsequently couldn't open it. I recieved the following message.....
The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click reopen to open the application again. Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
I tried reopening it but no joy....and the details are something i dont understand. Any ideas anybody...i have work on there which i need to export....
    Thank you

Bob forgot to have you trash your plist.
You will not lose any work you have saved although doing this will revert you FCP to its default setup.
You will need to reassign your scratch disk and that type of thing.
I recommend that you also repair permissions and reboot to clear up all sorts of maladies.
Here's how to do it all:
    Close Final Cut Pro.
    Go to: Users/your user name/Library/Preferences.
    Drag, "com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist" to the trash.
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Settings folder.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro 6 Preferences" to the trash.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" to the trash
Drag, "Final Cut Pro POA Cache" to the trash.
    Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
    Select your system disk
Click on the Repair Permissions button
Wait for the permissions to be repaired
    Restart your computer

  • Final Cut Pro start up

    hi
I dont know the tech speak but basically I have been working on a project in Final Cut Pro 5 for the last few months and it's all been going smoothly. Then today, I tried to open it and it brings up the loading screen (where it says who it's licensed to etc) and the FCP toolbar comes up but then it suddenly quits! It was fine the last time I shut it down (ie I didnt do anything different to 'provoke' what its doing now I dont think..)
I've tried opening the application from its original location, restarted the computer several times, reinstalled the software and I'm out of ideas...I know this all sounds pretty vague but wondering if anybody can spot what the problem is relating to??
    cheers x

    hi
thanks for replying! I tried everything you said, the FCP Rescue and the Autosave thing but its still the same...! I didnt upgrade anything before this problem. I'm not sure what you mean by system setup but here's all the info I can find on the computer..
    Mac OS X Version 10.3.9
Processor Dual 1.8GHz Power PC G5
    Memory 1GB DDR SDRAM
    Machine Model: Power Mac G5
    CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 900 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.1.4f0
Is this the kind of stuff you meant? Sorry if its all irrelevant - just let me know exactly what you were referring to (this is the type of stuff that gets lost on me..)
    thanks again in advance x

  • Final Cut Just started crashing and horrible audio

A little background in case it is important, otherwise sorry for the boring stuff. I have been working with Final Cut Studio 6.o on this Mac with Leopard for about a year and a half. I was slowly becoming a Mac believer. I installed Snow Leopard and upgraded to FC 7 a month or so ago. All was great. Thursday of last week I had a kernel panic. It occurred within an hour of installing Data Rescue 3, which I believe now was just a coincidence. I uninstalled Data 3 with App Zapper. Wow, everything was back to normal, I edited with no issues on Friday. Monday, back to edit and I can't keep the computer on without a kernel panic. I diligently followed all the advice I could on the forum. Made sure everything was current with updates. FCS, Sonnet, Snow Leopard etc. I deleted a lot of "bad" files/folders per the online help. I did and erase and install of Snow Leopard. I solved (stumbled into it most likely) the kernel issue. I went to use FCP7 and when I would add a graphic it would crash. As I tried to play audio, the audio was unintelligible. I did get it to work long enough to make two edits and output a QT to burn a disc. That all worked well. Now it just crashes and plays horrible audio. I did do a reinstall of FCS 7.0. and downloaded and installed an applications update.
Am I missing something? if there is a link with a similar problem send me there please.
I really tried to follow the forum before I posted.

You're probably not going to like hearing this but...
The only way to depend on your system in a professional environment is to do a clean install of OS and Applications. When everything is working fine, clone your startup drive and test the integrity of the clone. NEVER do an update or install any apps that might have an overall impact on your system without making sure your clone is up to date. If and when you have a problem you can always restore your clone to your startup drive and get back to work. If you have a desktop machine and can install a second internal drive to clone to, you can be back at work within minutes. Also, any drive can fail or basic system elements can get corrupted.
And as someone else said, you can be working with non standard formats for months without a problem and suddenly things can go south. What format is the graphic you are adding? Are the pixel dimensions greater than 4000 x4000? Tell us something about what formats you're working in? Have you tried disconnecting ALL peripherals and see if the problem persists>

  • Final Cut wont recognize my Canon xha1s

My employer has bought a new Canon XHA1s for me to use filming, editing, etc. I am trying to capture the footage I just recorded and the camera is not being recognized by Final Cut Express, but only FCE. From reading through other forums, I have: checked About This Mac>More Info>Hardware>Firewire and seen the camera IS being recognized by the computer (also verified on the camera). I have also recently gone through the Software Update, so FCE is up-to-date and other system things. The same camera also is recognized by iMovie, so I am able to capture through that, but that is not the path I want to take, or the program for that matter. I know I can import the footage from iMovie to FCE, but I'm trying to fix the real problem here. In the Import and Log and Capture Menus, the camera just doesn't show up as a source, even in the Finder. Any thoughts/ideas? I really appreciate it. Thanks.
