FCP X requires Firewire 400 or 800 connections to an external HDD. USB2 can't transfer data fast enough.
Hopefully your external HDD has a firewire option. If not, you'll get to treat yourself to a shiny new external HDD with a firewire connection.
Here's an example of what you need: External HDD w/ Firewire 800 on Buy.com

  • Final Cut Pro Does Not Recognize New External Hard Drive

I am editing a large video project and I had to buy an external hard drive. When I go into FCP, it does not recognize that I now have a lot more room to store media. How do I get it to recognize. Please help! Thanks.

I can see the new disk on my desktop. What do I change in "Preferences" exactly?
In Final Cut pro - System Settings - Shift Q...
You can add it to your list of scratch disks... (which, BTW, should NOT include your system disk)

My final cut x does not open at all, what to do to solve this problem so?

Start the application with the option key down. It will let you choose which libraries to open. Choose to create a new one, then see if it can open the old ones.
After you find which library causes the problem, try opening a backup version of it, like Tom said. Backups are by default in a folder Final Cut Backups inside the Movies folder.

Final Cut Pro does not work with Yosemite. Can it be fixed?

Hi Tom, I don't know if you can help me.
I'm using Final Cut version 10.1.4 with Yosemite 10.10.2 and whenever I open FCP it opens for about 5 seconds (not allowing me to click anywhere) before closing with the message  "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. click reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to apple automatically." I have tried opening it multiple times and the same thing has been happening over and over again and i've tried everything I could find on the internet and nothing is working.
    HELP.

  • Final cut studio does not load up

I am running my final cut studio 5.1.2 on a macbook pro
2.16ghz intel core duo. 2 gb of ram.
My problem is that all of a sudden final cut does not launch, not even a splash screen. I simply click on either the project I am working on or from the appocation folder and does not even open up. I trashed my preference, repaired disk permission and even reinstalled. I all created a new user account and the same problem occurs. I wonder if I need to do a complete
re-install, meaning wiping everthing out including dvd studio, motion, etc
and then re-install. Any suggestions. I was currently working on a HD project
    when this happened.
Also could there be something in the permisions folder or reciepts that I should be looking for? Please help I got a client coming in one day

When you crash, you get the option of Reporting to Apple? If so, take that and copy this section of the log:

  • Canon HV20 _ final cut studio2 does not hook up

    Hi there,
I have been trying for a while now , but it seems my final cut studio 2 is unable to see my new canon hv2 video camera.
Can anybody tell what am I doing wrong?

At the risk of being snide, what you're doing wrong +right now+ is failing to give us enough information about your problem. We can't tell you what you're doing wrong until we know what you're doing.

  • Final Cut Pro does not export

I'm having problems exporting with Final Cut Pro. When I go to the share menu, export movie simply does nothing, and if I try to export directly to vimeo or apple devices, it gives me this error: com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1. I checked in Applications and I have compressor, and if I open it, it works just fine. Already disabled the app nap in both final cut and compressor and it solved nothing.

You don't need to render before export.
    Rendering is for playback.
If your project plays OK from the storyline, you can safely turn off rendering in preferences.

  • Windows 7 does not recognize new laptop HDD?

I got a new hard drive for my comuter, I went to install windows on it but the installer said is no drive there, and tells me to get the proper drivers. I don't know where to get the drivers, and it's a Western Digital so it uses the built in drivers from windows. My desktop recognizes the drive fine, but the laptop does not. Any help?

Nevermind.  I removed the device, turned the power off and back on to let Windows reinstall the device.  That made the problem go away.  I should have tried that first.

  • ITunes does not recognize my 2nd generation iPod Touch.

The computer sees it but iTunes doesn't.
o iTunes diagnostics says no device is connected.
    o I AM using the Apple-supplied cord.
o I've tried ALL the USB ports.
o I've stopped and restarted Apple support utlities then rebooted PC. (Multiple times)
o I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. (Shut down PC after uninstall. Deleted Apple directory from AppData. Shut down PC agan. Downloaded iTunessetup then reinstalled.)
o Another iTunes (same version) PC recognizes my Touch and wants to sync it.
What's changed since the last successful sync?
    o Updated Windows to 8.1.
    o Updated iTunes to 11.1.3.8.
o I have disabled some irritating Dell run-in-background utilities. (The PC is a Dell Inspiron 14R.)
Short of buying a new iPod Touch, what do I need to do to get my Touch synced?
    Thank you.

    GOT IT!!!!!
The following steps worked for me:
    1. Uninstall iTunes.
    2. Uninstall Apple Application Support
    3. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
    4. Uninstall Apple Software Update
    5. Uninstall Bonjour.
==> In summary, uninstall EVERYTHING Apple. (I left Quicktime installed as a gamble and won.)
    6. Reboot PC.
    7. Open Windows File Explorer and go to the C: drive.
    8. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Program Files.
    9. Delete the Bonjour folder from Program Files.
    10. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Program Files (x86).
    11. Delete the Bonjour folder from Program Files (x86).
    12. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in ProgramData.
    13. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Users\username\AppData\Local.
    14. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Users\username\AppData\LocalLow.
    15. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Users\username\AppData\Roaming.
==> In summary, wander around the C: drive and delete any folders that have "Apple" in their name wherever you can find them. (There should be no folders with 'iTunes" in their name except possibly in Music. That can be left. So can all the folders named "iPod Photo Cache" in Pictures.)
    16. Reboot PC.
    17. Now that any known association with Apple has been removed from the PC, re-install iTunes. (Note: It may be necessary to re-authorize the PC for any content downloaded onto the iPod.)

  • Final cut x will not recognize my external harddrive

Everything was working fine until I updated to 10.0.6. Now FC will not see my external HD as a HD, when I tried to import it has it under the camera finder instead of the drive finder. None of my past project are showing in the events or project areas. I tried to go to the FC folder and open it from there, it will open FC and show the projects for the first few sec while it loads, then everthig is gone.

This usually happens because FCP sees a folder on the root level of the drive as a camera, a folder with a name like Private or Video or DCIM.

  • System does not recognize the external HDD ALU2, 2TB silver

    Hi,
When I connect my external HDD by USB to my laptop the HDD starts making a beeping sound and isn't recognized as a hard drive by the operating system (windows 7).
It worked well in the last year.
The Disk is still inside warranty but I now live in a different country and going to another country just to claim warranty will be the last resort.
Has anyone any idea of what I can do to overcome this problem?
It beeps 22 times and then stops (I would actually describe it as beeping 11 times each time with two beeps)
    Thanks
    Best Regards
    Carlos

    Hi
Did you test this external HDD in connection with other computers?
Does the beeping sound come from the HDD or the notebook?
If the HDD cannot be recognized using other computers, I would assume that the HDD malfunctions. Maybe a head crash or something like that
You could also start the built-in disk manager of Windows 7 to check if the external HDD would appear there. Click on Start and enter diskmgmt.msc into the search field to start the disk management.

  • My computer does not recognize the Airport Connection.  Please Help

I just purchased the Apple Base Station and Apple Extreme. My internet connection is made through a DSL Modem(My carrier is Frontier Communications). I am having a very hard time getting my computer to recognized the Airport. Can someone please help me. Thanks

Unplug the modem power. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the AEBS WAN (circle of dots port. Connect an ethernet cable to the LAN (<->) port, and to the ethernet port on your computer. Run the AirPort Admin utility. Configure your base station, giving it a name, administrator password, network name (SSID) and a password. Select a Configure option (ethernet or PPPoE, fill in any ISP information. Update the base station. Disconnect your computer.
Shut Down the computer. Make sure your AirPort Extreme card is firmly snapped into its socket, and that the antenna wire if snapped into place. Boot up. On the computer, go to System Preferences>Network and make sure PPPoE is disabled on your Ethernet Tab. You should now be able to see your network in the AirPort Menulet. Log on to your network and see if AirPort Admin Utility can be run (it should). Quit AirPort Admin Utility.
Plug in the power to the modem and run a web browser. Can you connect to the internet (you should be able to)?
