Final Cut X, Events Gone

Hi there, use Final Cut X on my MacBookPro with a WD 2 TB Raid. Up to now everything worked fine... tried to install the new update, wich failed to load in the app store... and now I have a BIG problem with my Events. Final Cut starts normal and is reading everything - but when its finished with loading from one second to another my whole WD Disk ist not availlable anymore in Final cut. It´s´there in the Finder - the Event and Project Folder is there - everything is as it should be - but Final cut doesnt show me anymore my Projects and Events! I´m in middle of production and this is a really BIG BIG Problem or should I say BUG!? Would be fine if anyone can help me out!
thx

@Tom: I dont know - but all that I know is that even after reinstalling Final cut its all the same - it loads up everything just fine - every project I had edited so far - then the whole "scratch disk" my 2 tb WD disappears... no more projects, no more events - even if I want to reimport some files of a new project I have just started (so its not that a mess) final cut gives me just my internal HD and another 1TB I have in the system... Again in the Finder everything is there on my WD - the folders the projects - does anyone know how to get back to my projects that I have edited?
@apple: this is not at least funny! (and I really started to like the new final cut!)

  • I have a fairly new iMac wI now have iMovie events and Final Cut pro events that are duplicates.  Does that mean that all my video is copied onto my hard dive twice?

If I have video in imovie and final cut pro X, does that mean there are two copies of the video, one for each piece of SW?  If so, how do I get rid of the imovie events and keep only the Final Cut Pro X events (video)?  I don't want multiple copies of the same video stored on the hard drive.

If you import to FCP directly from the Camera or from a camera archive, you would likely import choosing Optimized Files which would go to a FCP event that is in ProRes 422 codec. This would be in addition to your iMovie Event which would import using the Apple Intermediate Codec. So you would have two copies of the same information. An AIC copy and a larger ProRes copy.
However, if you use FILE/IMPORT/iMOVIE EVENT LIBRARY, FCP will not duplicate the event files from iMovie. It will treat them as referenced files, and will point to the iMovie Event files in the reference. So there is no duplication. You will be editing Apple Intermediate Codec files in FCP.
However, FCP will create Event folders. In addition to the reference information, these will contain thumbnail files that are compatible with FCP, stabilization and analysis files that are compatible with FCP, as well as any intermediate render files that are associated with the Event.
So in this case, there is no duplication of the large event files, but there is some duplication of the small thumbnail files.
I have several terabytes of iMovie Events, which are now all available in FCP. Believe me, I would know if they were duplicated because all my disks would be full.

  • Is it possible to transfer stored (b-roll) video footage from Final Cut Express to Final Cut Pro event library? Is so, what do I need?

I have been editing in final cut express and now that I'm working in Pro X I would like to transfer my b-roll footage from FCX to Pro X. I read that there is an app. that you can buy that does this for Final Cut Pro 7, is this possible with Final Cut Express?

Any media used in FCE can be used in FCP. No third party software is required.
You cannot take an FCE project to FCP. 7toX will not help as FCE has no XML export.

  • Final Cut Pro Update - Old Projects & Events

Hi, Final Cut updated my folder structure (making it super confusing) and now I have a folder with a purple icon that has 4 stars that says "Macintosh HD's Projects & Events" and also a "Macintosh HD Old Final Cut Projects & Events" folder.
The "new" one is 315GB and the old one is over 500GB. Between the two I am now very low on harddrive space.
My question.... Can I delete the "Old" folder of projects & events? When I look at the new folder it appears to have everything in it, but I just wanted to make sure before I delected 500GB of projects.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Don't delete anything until the update process is completed and you are happy with the results.
A thing called Hard Links has occured that really uses little drive space.
It may appear that there are TWO large files but it's not really the case.

  • Final Cut Pro X Free Trial - Lost Past Files

I downloaded the free trial of FCP X about 20 days ago and when i went to import and begin a new project today, the past 4 projects and their original files I have worked on are gone.  I have looked everywhere in my external hard drive (where I save things) and when I search under the Final Cut Pro Events/Projects, nothing is there.  I'm a little concerned as the original footage is gone as well.  It's like there's no trace that I ever worked on them.  I know the program auto saves, but all that's on my external drive is the final exported .mov files that open in Quick Time. I opened a new project to see if it deleted the current one I was working on, and it didn't.  As of right now it's saving everything that I've done since Wednesday, but prior to that.... I can't find a thing.  (I've searched the computer/external hard drive/back up files.)

Unless you have another drive that is not currently mounted, this doesn't sound encouraging.
Before Wed, were you working from the Finder  in events and projects? Even if you had changed the names, duplicated, organized, consolidated – whatever – if they exist, they should have the extensions you searched on.
Sorry, I'm having a hard imagining a scenario whereby both events and projects go missing at the same time – short of moving them to the trash from within FCP (which has to be done one at a time) or dragging both the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects to the trash in the Finder and emptying the trash.
Perhaps someone else will weigh in with some better ideas.

  • How to correct NO AUDIO when I convert .wmv in iVI converter  then download to Final Cut Pro?

How do I correct NO AUDIO in my Final Cut Pro event after converting a .wmv file using iVI converter?

Suggest you contact the converter's developer.

  • Final Cut pro X & project sharing

I am sure this is a basic question but I can't seem to find a solution. Two of us are working on a three min short in two different cities across the country.  One person is doing the clip edits.  The other colour correction and audio.
I know to share edit we just make a complete copy of both the Project folder (stored in the final cut projects folder ) and the events folder (stored in the final cut pro events folder). The problem is the files are huge.
I was going to use Drop box to share the files but it will take forever to upload and download.  We are on a deadline.
Does anyone have any idea how to speed this process up?  We both have hard copies of the RAW footage that needs to be colour correct and audio work. I don't have copies of the stock footage and music bed but I am not doing anything to those parts.  Would it be possible to just send an archived copy of the project and relink it from my copies of RAW footage.  Do my edit then archive the project.  Send her a copy via drop box.  Then she would relink with my additional changes to the audio and colour.
With another rookie question. Is there a way to use iCloud.  If I could save the project in my iCloud.  Then give my partner my information to sign into the account. Then she could download it from iCloud and edit...
Just trying to solve the problem of file sharing fast on larger file sized projects.

Assuming both editors have copies of the raw footage in their events folder and that no footage is added or deleted, then the only files that change are "currentversion.fcpproject" in the projects folder and "currentversion.fcpevents" in the events folder. These are very small files and can easily be transferred between editors via dropbox or similar.
The problem with this is that the editors can't work on the same project simultaneously, only sequentially. In other words, editor A finishes their bit and passes it on to editor B to do their work. I don't know your workflow but I'm guessing that you are trying to work at the same time on the same project. It works for us, but only because we split large projects into smaller sub-projects.

  • Final Cut X reading from 2 different drives

I am currently sitting at my work desk and our workflow is set up that we have all our projects on the scratch disk to work from, and the back up drive updates every night backing up the computer and hard drive. Because of this, FCPX is reading the events from the main drive and the events from the back up. Every time i open final cut the events are on a different drive.  So the first time I saw this i tried to get all the events back onto the main drive, thus duplicating the events.  Then i noticed that all the duplicated events went onto the backup drive and off the projects drive, i restarted FCPX and it reversed again! Mind you, the events and projects are still in tact on the drives in finder but I don't know for certain that I am working from an event on the actual scratch disk or from the backup drive which could create problems.
I understand that FCPX has it's own heirarchy within the software and i havent moved any files around within finder only from within fcpx
these 2 pictures were taken 2 minutes from each other to show what happens.
I am also getting this prompt every time I start FCPX
I'm scared to delete any of the events becuase at this point I have worked on diferent projcts and i'm not sure which event those projcts were pulling from.
I want to know a couple things
1.) why is this happening and how do i stop it?
2.) in the future how do i stop FCPX from reading from the backup drive?
3.) If I do decide to delete the duplicates and in the event a projct i was working on was pulling from that particular duplicate, will it be easy to re-link the media I used?
Thanks in advance for the responses. this has become very frustrating.
    Steve

Thanks so much for this help.  It definitely gave me a starting point and a workaround.  However, I really want to know why FCPX is reading from the backup drive, is there anyway to just tell it to ignore the drive without mounting it?  I could just remount the drive before i leave for the day but thats something that i could forget to do. as in yesterday when i got 20 minutes into my drive home and realized i forgot to reconnect.
I know this seems like a "laziness" question but it really does worry me that final cut gets confused as to what projects are on what drives when both are connected.  It wouldn't worry me as much if both drives showed an identical projects list, that would make sense and i would have ignored it from the start.  But the fact that every time i restart final cut the projects are randomly visible or not visible on either drive really makes me worrisome.

  • All final cut events, projects disappeared from external hard drive

I had a re-start this morning and the event I was working on lost its purple box and its white star. Can't find the project, can't find the event.
Even more troubling, the Final Cut Events and Library folders on my external hard drive is also gone. Really need some help here. Any ideas?

It almost looks like all of the original media is gone.

  • Final Cut Pro 10.1 crashed and my project is gone.

When I updated last week to version 10.1, I created a new library for a new series of videos I'd be making. I was working on the first one today, when all of a sudden Final Cut crashed. I reopened and the new library I created is gone and so is the project I've been working on all day.
Whenever the last version of Final Cut crashed, it always opened back up to my current project without losing any changes. Why has all my work disappeared now? Is there any place I might look to find it?
I just with there were a program with all the features of Final Cut without any of the bugs or issues. I'm getting tired of working overtime to deal with software issues.

Actually, the media should still be in a location that you specified. If you originally imported directly from the camera into FCPX, it will be in an event. If you originally copied your media to your Mac, it will be at that location unless you moved it; it may also live in your event – depending on whether you chose to copy the media to your event.
If you select a clip that has a missing clip warning in the browser and then File>Relink Files, it will give you a dialog so you can navigate to that location.
BTW, what version of FCPX are you using and caused you go from Premiere to Final Cut in the first place?

  • In Final Cut Pro I was trying to move an Event Library from one hard drive to another as explained in the Help section.  After doing so, I received a message that my event is already open with the same identifier as the new one I just creat

In Final Cut Pro I was trying to move an Event Library from one hard drive to another as explained in the Help section.  After doing so, I received a message that my event is already open with the same identifier as the new one I just created on the new disk.  It says the second document cannot be opened and to move one of these documents out of your Final Cut Events folder.  It also says to avoid this problem, copy events from within Final Cut Pro, but that is what I did in the first place.  What should I do to avoid the double opening conflict?

What exactly are you doing and what version are you using with OS X 10.8?

  • After transferring clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. They show up in the timeline of my project, though. how can I see then in the events browser?

After importing clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. Events from 2014 show up, but not 2015.They show up in the timeline of my project, though. How can I see them in the events browser?

TThose aren't bins. Those are just groupings based on when the content was created or any other selected parameter. Use the action popup in the toolbar tho change the setting.

  • No audio for some files in the Final Cut Event/Original Media folder

Hi, recently, I noticed that some of the video files stored into the Final Cut Event/"Event"/Original Media folder had no audio. They do have audio when I read them into FCP X but not when I open them as ordinary files in the Finder. It worries me as it makes these files unusable in any other application, unless I "share" them from FCP X. It's no big deal but it's more work and on the principle, it's criminal: why FCP X would strip the audio off an original? Video and photo applications now work on the non-destructive principle!
I usually shoot videos with a DSLR (Canon 550D/T2i) and a GoPro 3. It seems that the files impacted are the ones shot with the Canon and optimized for FCP X. The GoPro files are fine, optimized or not.
Is there any solution to this problem or will I have to export the files from FCP X?

Thank you very much for the info.
I removed the Media Cache and Media Cache File folders.  Didn't seem to make any difference.  Also, there's no audio if I try to play it in Organizer.
I have a question regaring "import".  What exactly does that mean?
Since all my MTS files are on hard drive already, what I did was:
    1) Open a new project in PE9.
    2) In the "Organize" tab, click "Get Media"
    3) Choose "Get Videos/Photos/Audio from: Files and Folders".
    4) In the pop-up window, navigate to my folder and choose the existing MTS file.
    Was that called "import"?
    Thank you again!
    Michael
