Final cut X - Print to Video???

Hi guys
I need help with Print to Video function in Final cut X. Most of a time I'm editing in FCP7, but problem is that FCP7 crash/freeze while record/print video (DVCPRO HD) to P2 recorder (Panasonic AG-HPG10 or 20). I have installed Os 10.10.3, but I remember that under the 10.9 works fine. I know that FCP7 is old and don't have support anymore. But I can't find this function in Final Cut X. I need this concrete function because I record shots to P2 card with recorder and after than I use recorded P2 card in my Panasonic AJ-HPM200E.
Please help

There is no Print to Video function in X.
There may be an i/o box from some manufacturer like Blackmagic or AJA that can do this, but you'd need to contact them to verify it.
But on a related point, I haven't had any problems with FCP7 on Yosemite. I'd ask about this on the Final Cut Studio forum if you want help in sorting out any issues.

  • Final Cut HD-Print to video problem

Hello brainy people and Help! I am experiencing problems with the Print to Video function. The mac switches the machine on and puts the canon into REC mode, the tape goes round and it records. However on playback there is no image. I have tried tweaking the settings in the dialogue boxes to no avail. I also have another XM2 camera and firewire cable, the results are the same.

What drives are you using? How's the camera connected? What version of FCE? What version of QuickTime?

  • Final Cut Pro X Exported Video Size

I've recently bought Final Cut Pro X and use it for editing videos before uploading to YouTube.  I used to export my videos from iMovie as a .mov file to my hard drive to then manually upload to YouTube.  There doesn't seem to be this option in Final Cut, so I've taken to using the YouTube share feature but it never uploads so I just manually upload the .mov file that it saves somewhere in the Final Cut shared files folder.
The problem I have is that I export a 720P file so assumed that the video size would be 1280 x 720, it always was with iMove.  I've found that Final Cut spits out the video at 1248 x 702 and this is quite annoying as it sometimes cuts off the top and bottom of a video.  Is there any reason why it does this or any way to get it to export at the correct display size?

How can I change the size? Normally I export at 720P in iMovie and the video and format are both 1280 x 720.  I did a screencast using Quicktime and due to the change in display size it's chopped off the toolbar at the top and a small portion of the dock.  I've had to resize the clip in Final Cut to 95% of the original size to get it to fit in the 1248 x 702 size that it chooses to put it in.
As this was only a screencast the file size tends to be this small, but normally I shoot at full HD on my camcorder and the video can be about 10 mins in length.  I used the export media function and the resulting file was about 8GB in size!  iMovie would typically give me a .mov file anywhere between 700MB - 1.5GB depedning on the length of the video and that suited me fine, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get it that small using the Export Media.  Not much of a problem really coz I'm fine using the YouTube share option to get what I want.

  • Which versions of Final Cut Pro support HD video?

Which versions of Final Cut Pro support HD video? (Other than 6)

Uncompressed HD...that can be done with FCP 4.5 or higher. But as said, you need a capture card, no matter what version you use.
DVCPRO HD support started in FCP 4.5. P2 DVCPRO HD support started with 5.0.4. HDV support started with FCP 5.0, and is much better in FCP 5.1. XDCAM started in FCP 5.0, better in 5.1. AVCHD requires 5.1, and AVCIntra requires FCP 6.

    We need info, info, info!
    What version of FCP X?
Did you render? what are the project specs? do you use many compound clips? how much ram, hard drive space, how is the hard drive connected?
It looks like your mac can't keep up. Maybe the bottleneck is the hard drive, or something else.
Try exporting a master file and see if the video is ok.
Also, keep Activity Monitor open and see how much memory pressure you've got.

  • Final cut pro print to tape problem

So i needed to print this news package on a tape, when i go to do it, all seems well until i play it back. all i see is black screen. We use firewire to a jvc mini dv tapedeck and mac book pro with fcp 7.03. Need help greatly.

Make sure your camera is getting a signal...
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Final Cut Timeline Feed as video source for iChat?

I was at the Apple NAB presentation in Vegas a few weeks ago, and one of the things they showcased in regard to iChat AV was the ability for an editor to videoconference with several other people at once and one of the video feeds in the chat window was actually the output from the editor's Final Cut Pro timeline. As he made changes in the FCP timeline, he could play it out in real time and all the people in the chat could see the video feed and make comments on the edit.
OK- so we were excited because that's a workflow issue we have here. So, we bought some iSight cameras and Tiger and started to do some testing here. The only problem is that it doesn't seem very easy to set up. At first I just thought, "well, they are just playing the timeline out of the firewire port on the FCP machine and another computer is ingesting that firewire stream as a video source for iChat." except when you connect 2 Macs together with a firewire cable, the FCP system doesn't detect a DV video device to output to and the iChat system doesn't detect the incoming firewire stream as a "camera". I spoke to tech support and they said it's not something they support so no luck there.
I did find an article on Creative Cow about someone doing something similar, but it involved exporting the FCP timeline out through a Kona analog video card into an external tape deck that does analog to DV conversion which then can be imported back into iChat as a DV stream, but last time I checked, a Kona card would run me around 1500 bucks.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

    HI Jeremy,
Welcome to the Aple Discussion Pages.
Based on the Auto Responding iChat Accounts that play films I would guess they were either using an AppleScript to import FCP as the Video sourdce or usiing an Add-On like iChatUSBCam that also alows you to change the video source to the desktop.
iChatUSBcam has a new beta for Tiger http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and video app chaos

    Hi,
Did anyone find after installing Final Cut Studio 2 that their 3rd party apps to do with video extraction/conversion suddenly start to unexpectedly quit when in operation? It's a brand new MacPro, lovely machine until Final Cut software went and messed things up. I won't mention the trouble I had to install both Logic Studio and FCS since they both share similar components and included apps, Apple's installer is not designed to cope and I had to mess about with the receipts folder to get both installed. This page was available yesterday http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1110?locale=en_GB to give an insight of the problems between the two. Anyhow, I think the best solution is to remove Final Cut software as I'm not up for spending hours debugging.

I had a huge issue pop up with me too...and I figured the best way was to wipe the drive, install the OS and FCP from scratch. Took a day, but better than spending more time trying to figure things out.

  • Need help editing and exporting using Final Cut Express - why does video end up with judder?!!

I've imported material from my JVC HD Camera and have edited a 52 minute sequence on Final Cut Express. I've exported it as a Quicktime Movie and it's 43GB. How do I get this on to DVD?
I've tried using iDVD to export but as you can imagine, the quality is not great. There's a judder on it. I have no idea where to start with using applications like MPEG Streamclip to convert the clip so that when it does get on to DVD, it doesn't judder. Can anyone help? This is driving me insane!!

I've exported it as a Quicktime Movie and it's 43GB. How do I get this on to DVD?
First step - just use this export as the import into iDVD.  iDVD will take care of the necessary encoding to fit it on a DVD disk.  The file size is of no concern; the only concern is the length (in time) of the video ... iDVD can fit about 2 hours of video on single layer DVD media; about 4 hours on dual-layer DVD media.
Regarding the judder, this is not specifically an iDVD issue. Do you see the judder when you play the video  in the FCE Canvas window?

  • Final Cut Studio & Size Of Video Player Window

I'm not sure if the answer to my question begins in Final Cut or a later step:
I produce online videos for clients in Final Cut, and in the end product I have been using 320 x 240 screen size, as it seems to have been the standard for modest file size and quick streaming.
Now on many sites I see a much larger video window that begins streaming crystal clear video almost immediately. If I can make larger videos for my clients I'd love to, but I'm not familiar with this technique except for creating the video as a massive file when exporting from Final Cut into the Windows Media export option with Flip4Mac and WMV.
What's the trick? And can Macs do it?
    Thanks from Gina

Hard to say what others might be doing unless we can see what exactly you're talking about. Can you point us to one of the sites you're hoping to emulate?
But to attempt to answer your larger question, sure you can do what they do, for the most part, with Final Cut Studio. I'd wager that the bulk of videos available on the web, from producers as varied as major media corporations to dorky podcasters are produced with FCS on Macs.
The bulk of the videos on the web - especially those that load particularly quickly - are Flash files though, so yeah, you'll need some outside tools to emulate that aspect of things.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 stretches video footage

This question is for Final Cut Pro 7 and, as I was informed, has been posted in the wrong place. However I am unable to move the thread. I apologize for any confusion.
I have video footage that is 853x480, which is a slightly odd dimension. When I import this footage into FCP7, it stretches it to be 1011x480. Why is it doing this, and can I prevent it? The video footage is .mp4 file type.

FFCP7 questions should be posted on the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • Final Cut Pro X exports video clip as black

    Hi Everyone,
I have a big problem, I'm trying to export a project with many HD clips, the first of which is the only one being shot as AVCHD on a Sony DSLR and converted to .mov by Voltaic HD because otherwise I can't import it in Final Cut Pro X. The rest of the clips are directly imported from another camera, no conversion.
The first clip (the one I had to convert) plays and gets edited fine within FCPX, but after I export the whole project, all the part that had that clip is just black picture with no sound. My titles, photos in the meantime are still there, but otherwise all black until the next clips show up.
The sources clips are hd1080p but I'm trying to export the project as 720p. My FCPX version is 10.0.9. I've edited videos from the same source and conversion before and never had this problem.
So now I just took the same single clip into a new project and exported it at 720p and there it just works fine ... Arrrghh!! How can I fix this?

I am having an almost identical problem:
Trying to export (doesn’t matter to what: Master File, Apple Device, etc. all lead to the same result) the project I am working on is producing a black screen with no audio (for the length of the project) – only the start and end titles get rendered.
The project plays fine in FCP X 10.0.9; the initial screen on the export dialog produces a correct looking screenshot (with both the picture and title visible), and predicts realistic sizes for the export file, which ends up being tiny by comparison.
Other projects with a similar workflow are exporting fine: basically I have shot a couple of concerts, and each project is one song with start and end credits and some color correction, stabilization, etc.
The source was 1080P video from a Canon SLR 5D Mark III, and it is being exported to 1080P -- however, I don't think that's relevant, because video from the same source to the same export files worked fine before - FCP X can obviously handle the format involved.
I tried deleting the FCP X preferences -- didn’t help. I had already tried deleting the render files.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

  • Final Cut Server is for video and photo archiving?

Too many products in the last few years. I used to use iPhoto to archive both photos and video and edit them. Now I have moved to the professional line but it gets more confusing.
Aperture2: archiving and cataloguing thousands of pictures with minor edits
Adobe CS4: major edits to my pictures
FCP6: video edit but with no archiving and/or metadata capability
Final Cut Server: for what? Can it archive/metadata all my video and all my Aperture files and work
seamlessly between all these four programs?
Please help. I am considering buying Final Cut Server. I am both a photographer as well as a videographer running many different cameras over many different kinds of shoots. And I am trying to simplify my work process.
    Thanks,
    Brian

We were in a similar situation as well.
We use Adobe products for photo and desktop stuff
    and FCP Suite for video.
We ingest images with Bridge and add keywords.
The raw files are backed up and the corrected images
are processed (Photoshop/Image Processor) and dropped
into a Final Cut Server watch folder.
This action automatically adds the files to FCS for
easy access as well as backs up the images to an
external FTP in our desktop publishing office across
town. Desktop has its own version of FCS that adds
the new files and makes them available for designers.
When we shoot video we shoot mainly with Sony EX3
camcorders with SxS media. Footage is downloaded
and tagged in XDCAM Transfer. The folder that is
labeled "Import" in the utility is also a watch
folder which added the files to FCS.
So in other words Final Cut Server has us organized
and working together much better than we were before.

  • Final cut pro - editing music video audio falls out of sync

filmed with canon 7D- i play the music in the background for th artist to perform. upon loading up the footage into final cut, i sync the start of the video audio with the record, as they both play it falls out of sync. i did not have this problem when i edited with premiere. any ideas

Sync issues are *usually* going to be mismatched sample rates, for instance, you imported 44.1kHz audio into a 48kHz project.
This happened to me awhile back, and unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it. But what I *think* I did was click on the imported audio and went to the Retime menu and selected Conform Speed. If that doesn't work, right click on the audio in the event browser and select Transcode (if there's an option to do so in the dialog).
It is also possible to manually resync audio by Retiming it. Turn on snapping (N), select the clip, type Command-R and drag the audio clip's retiming handle until the end of the audio snaps with the end of the video clip (this is actually amazingly accurate.) [If your recorded audio is not the same length of the audio on the video, then set markers on the video and audio tracks and retime until the markers snap.] You should do this before any other edits.
