Hello All, (repeated post from OS-9 group)
In order to prepare my Powerbook G3 Wirewire for OS-X Panther, I downloaded the OS 9 Updates from www.Apple.com using another much newer (and faster connected) Mac:
Update 9.1
Update9.2.1
Update9.2.2
Update firmware 4.1.8
I burned them onto a CD-ROM and also put them onto a portable external USB drive.I copied them onto the desktop.
Now when I try to open them I get the error..
The application program "Mac OS 9.1 Update.smi" could not be opened, because an error of type -39 occurred.
any suggestions?
Also, I am preparing to install a 512mb RAM SoDIMM and a 40GB hard drive, before I perform the Upgrade to OS-X Panther. I was told that OS-X Tiger would not fit on the existing 10GB drive when combined with the existing OS-9 system (however,the existing Hard Drive's total contents only uses up only 1.95GB.)
So....
I will install the new RAM module and the larger Harddrive, then install the OS 9.0.4 from my original CD-ROMs... I'll put all the backed-up files/Apps onto the new drive... then run the OS 9.1 update, then run the firmware 4.1.8 update, then follow with the 9.2.1, and the 9.2.2 updates... then do an archive and install with the OS-X Panther using those CD-ROMS..... If I start this tommorrow after FedEx delivers the new HDrive and RAM, I should be up and running before August! (kidding, I hope)
I read tons of posts about Upgrading my Powerbook G3 Firewire and wasn't that clear about still being able to use older software and access old files if I did a "Full" install with the Panther CD-ROMs then follow with an OS 9.0.4 system later. I think it would be skipping the all-important "keep the OS 9 drivers" choice.
any further suggestions about this upgrade plan would be appreciated.

Hi!
You have a lot of questions there, I hope I can get to them all.
First, if you currently have OS 9.2.2 on your computer, just back it up, burn it to a CD (System Folder and OS 9 Applications Folder), then when you have installed your drive you can copy them by dragging them to your HDD. Or you can place your old internal HDD in a Firewire enclosure and use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy what you want back to your new internal HDD.
On the other hand you can do a complete clean install as follows:
Clean Panther installation
This process will completely erase everything on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure to Backup your User Folder and all third party apps you can't afford to lose
1. Boot from your OS 9 install CD holding down C key.
2. Go to Drive Setup and reformat your drive as Mac OS Extended (HFS+)
2. Reinstall OS 9
3. Update to 9.2.2: Mac OS 9: Available Updates
4. Update Firmware.
5. Boot from the 10.3.x install CD 1
6. Go to Installer Menu and open Disk Utility
7. Repair Permissions!
8. Install Mac OS X 10.3.x
9. Restart and Repair permissions (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility)!
10. Download and apply the Mac OS X Update 10.3.9 (Combo)
11. Restart and Repair permissions!
12. Run Software Update and apply all updates availableI was told that OS-X Tiger would not fit on the existing 10GB drive when combined with the existing OS-9 system (however,the existing Hard Drive's total contents only uses up only 1.95GB.)Technically possible, but not advisable. 10 GB is not much. I kept running into directory problems all the time. The larger HDD will make your Pismo much more functional. In addition to more storage, it will run more efficiently and faster.

Hyperion Planning Upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2

Hyperion Planning Upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
So far I have done the following 3 steps:
1. I have successfully installed and configured Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 in a new Server. (Windows Server 2008 R2).
2. I have created a blank classic Planning Application in 11.1.2.2.
3. I have copied the relational database from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
Could you please let me know the next steps to perform the upgrade?
Should I use the Migrate Button in the Hyperion Planning Webpage or use the option in the EPM System Configurator "Upgrade existing database to the current release from 11.1.1.3". Please advise.
Note : A native User is the owner of the Planning Application in 11.1.1.3 and hence I made the same in 11.1.2.2 also.
Also, please let me know if I need to migrate the shared services security and convert the HBRs to Calc Manger rules first before upgrading the Planning Application.

Yes, I have performed a clean install and then going for upgrading the existing Planning Application.
The Application owner in both the source and target Applications is a native user named hypadmin (not the default admin user). Do you want me to change the owner to default admin user, or the user hypadmin is ok to go with?
Please advise.

Final Cut upgrade serial number problems

A few years ago I upgraded Final cut Pro 4 to the first Final Cut Studio release, which included Final Cut Pro 5. I just recently had to wipe my hard drive and start over, but now I can't seem to install Final Cut Studio. It's asking for the serial number, and I'm using the serial number from Final Cut Pro 4, but it's not working.
My question: am I missing a serial number? I was under the impression that Final Cut upgrades use the serial number from the original full version you are upgrading from.

Planning upgrade LCA build 41.12 to 41.17 + kernal upgrade

Can we do the Service pack and kernel upgrade without a manual of- and re-load of data? All notes states that an initialize is not needed a simple restart is sufficient.
My idea is:
1)       backup live cash
2)       Stop LCA
3)       Install service packs and kernel upgrade
4)       Restart LCA
5)       Reload data from backup

On SCM 4.1 system & you are planning to run the upgrade to LCA build 17 PL 002/liveCache version 7.5.00.44 using the SAP Note 1070304 .
=> please proceed as described in SAP Note 713381 ("Importing liveCache version...") to import SCM 4.1 LCA Build 17 patch level 002 and the corresponding liveCache Kernel 7.5.0 Build 044.

IMovie captures fine, Final Cut cannot detect firewire?!

Hi,
I am running the latest Mac OSX 10.4. My iMovie is able to capture fine from my Sony Z1, but when using Final Cut Pro 5, it will not even detect the camera is there.
I have updated to Final Cut Studio 2, and still have the same problem. Any ideas?

You may need to capture with iMovie, convert the m2t stream (MPEG streamclip) in an editable format and then use FCP.

Cannot create new folders on desktop. Cannot drag new items onto desktop. Desktop in Finder opens with Terminal. Not sure if this has anything to do with upgrading to Mavericks but I need help if anyone has ideas. Thank you.

I can no longer create new folders on my desktop. The option to do that is now light gray on the drop down menu and can't be selected.
I cannot drag new items onto desktop any longer either.
The Desktop in Finder opens with Terminal.
Folders and items on Desktop open and work normally.
Not sure if this has anything to do with upgrading to Mavericks but I need help if anyone has ideas.

Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or rebooting. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder or something else, such as Anything.
If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”). Quit Terminal.
Relaunch the Finder.
If the problem is now resolved, and if you use iPhoto, continue.
Quit iPhoto if it's running. Launch it while holding down the option key. It will prompt you to select a library. Choose the one you want to use (not the Desktop folder.)

Free/Reduced Price phone with plan upgrade prior to contract expiration

I have a two year family plan contract (only 2 of us on the plan) with basic phones and basic service (no texting or data plan). If I want to upgrade to a data and texting plan prior to my contract expiration, would we be elible for free or reduced price android phones? Would my two year contract start over from the date of my upgrade? Would there be any penalty charges for making the change prior to the contract expiration?

Digitizing using final cut 5 and firewire

All of a sudden I am not able to capture in final cut. when i open final cut it does not recognize a firewire device to be plugged in but when I am in final cut and open up the caputure window I have control over it and can play the tape and see the time code but I am unable to see the video. under audio video settings under video playback it says apple firewire ntsc (720x480) missing. I tried opening iMovie to see if I could see video through that and it was fine. I have tried multiple tapes and decks. any suggestions? thanks

This includes if you have upgraded FCP or OSX as well. QT as implemented in FCP seems quite delicate. The QT reinstall (linked to by David) usually fixes it.
It has been reported by more than one person to take more than one attempt to make it work. Also, be sure to follow ALL the steps.

Family Plan upgrade question

I currently have a family share plan with 5 lines. None of the 5 phones are smartphones. 2 of the lines/phones currently have the $10/month unlimited data package (LG Voyager phone). Our 2 year contract expires in May 2011 but we can upgrade now if we want.
Is it possible to do the following:
Upgrade one voyager to a smartphone and pay $30/month data package
Upgrade the other voyager to a non-smartphone and keep the $10/month data package
Upgrade one of the other lines to a non-smartphone and have the $10/month data package
Upgrade the other two lines to non-smartphones with no data package
We were in a store and it was difficult to get a clear answer. It seemed that once one phone goes to the $30/month data plan then all other phones must have a $30/month plan as well. Also, they implied we could no longer be on the same family share plan (700 minutes, unlimited text). Perhaps I mis-interpreted what they were saying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure that' s what you wanted to hear, but it is likely what you will be facing. There's a possibility you can keep what you have if you get all feature phones, but upgrading any of the lines to a smartphone will force a plan change to the Talk & Text, since the smartphone doesn't play nice with the old Connect/Select plans.

Family Plan Upgrade to New Phones/Activation

My mom is the primary line for our family plan. We have 3 other lines besides hers in the plan. All the phonelines are eligible for upgrades right now, but my mom's line has an extra $50 dollars off upgrade discount.
My question is, if my mom's line is upgraded to a certain phone, does that certain phone have to be activated using her phone number, or could I activate her phone and use it with my phone number?
Reason being is, she doesn't want a fancy phone but her line has nicer phones to upgrade to since she has the $50 discount. I was wondering if she could upgrade to that phone, but then if I could activate it using my phone number (so in effect the phone would actually be mine without my phone number having to change)?

Hyperion Planning upgrade issue : Upgrade planning 9.3.1 to 11.1.1.3

I am getting the below given erro while upgrading hyperion planning from 9.3.1 to 11.1.1.3
I have done the following steps in sequence to achive the upgrade:
1. Created a planning application "plantest" on 9.3.1 , created hireachy and "create Database" from planning to make the essbase outile.
2. took the backup of planning db repository from 9.3.1 using expdp in a dumpfile.
3. migrated the essbase from 9.3.1 to 11.1.1.3
4. logged on to 11.1.1.3 AppWizard to create the similar planning application with the same name "plantest".
5. made a note of HSP_USER 50001 sid on 11.1.1.3
6. stopped the planning on 11.1.1.3
7. imported the 9.3.1 dump on 11.1.1.3 using the following command :impdp system/password DIRECTORY=TEST_DIR DUMPFILE=PLANNING_FINAL.DMP TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=REPLACE
8. started the planning on 11.1.1.3
9.When I am trying to login to the planning application on 11.1.1.3 - I am getting the following error:
- Application plantest is invalid.
I tried loging agian on the same page, this time it gave me a tab "Migrate" instead of usual "logon" and when I tried loging in, it gave the below error:
- An error occurred while processing this page. Check the log for details
Please let me know if i am doing anything wrong? - which log should I go and check?

Yes, on clicking the migrate button i get the error.

Final Cut Pro 6 - firewire output to monitor I lose Canvas window. . .?

Hello, I am running Final Cut Pro 6 (Suite 2) on a G5 1.6 processor, etc etc.
I have noticed that with this version of FCP, that when my media goes out the firewire cable to a production monitor, that my motion of the clips STOPS in the Canvas and Viewer windows.
Anyone know why that is? Older versions of final cut, there were no problems. . .now there is? Is there some simple setting somewhere i am overlooking?
Please help! As surprisingly while it is not dire, it IS a nuisance. . .

What are my options for a data plan + upgrade?

So my old phone (Samsung Intensity) broke today, and I'm looking to upgrade to a smartphone. I would prefer an iPhone, but really it's not that big of a deal if I get a Droid. I'm eligible for an upgrade currently. What are my options for a smartphone and a data plan? I'm looking for what's the cheapest option as far as this goes. People tell me an iPhone is free with an upgrade, and that the cost is $20 a month, but I just want to be sure.

Unless you have an old calling plan, you should be able to add a tiered data plan for your new smartphone (i.e., $30 for 2 GB). If you switched to the Share Everything plan, your monthly cost would be $40 line access + at least $50 for 1 GB data (includes unlimited minutes/texts and mobile hotspot, although the hotspot data usage comes out of your data plan), plus, of course, taxes/fees (and insurance, if applicable).
You can check pricing for phones via your on-line MyVerizon account if you click on the Upgrade button. If you are mainly interested in free phones (keep in mind that there's a $30 upgrade fee), there's the Nokia Lumia 822, Spectrum 2, Droid Razr M, iPhone 4, Galaxy Stellar, Marauder, Rhyme, and the Lucid. Several of those are 3G phones.
