Final Year dissertation

I was looking for some potential ideas of what do for a networking related final year project for university possibly using either opnet, packet tracer or both as i am finding it difficult to think of any ideas.  A project where research and information would be fairly easily accessible.
Some ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Yup..I'm agreed with Peter..Network Inventory System is a good platform to start. But you have to detail out the scop. Example :
Network Inventory System
- Module 1 = Online form to key-in network device (serial number, part number, warranty status, IP, upload picture, etc )
- Module 2 = Reporting System (by month, year, device warranty status, IOS status, hardware problem etc2)
- Module 3 = Any idea?
then you can move to Network Monitoring System. Detail out the scop.
- Module 1 = Network topology diagram status (red color = down, green color  = up, graft information, etc2)
- Module 2 = Alert system (display any problem issue - high utilization, looping, etc2)
- Module 3 = Reporting (weekly, monthly, year - system up/down, etc2)
ermm...anybody wanna to fire up this topics? more idea please... ;-)

  • Ideas for my final year project

    Hi evryone,
I'm a final year software engineering student,I'm looking for
dynamic, innovative final year project based on J2EE technologies.
I'll be looking forward for ideas/suggestions from the community members.

Install Eclipse, tomcat, axis, logger, ajax...explore all and implement in your project. Why would you recommend those technologies?! Don't install or explore any of these until you decide WHAT you want to do. You match the tech to the requirement, not the other way around.

  • Ideas for a final year project

I am in the final year of my studies. At the moment I can not decide what to do for my project, I have few ideas but I would like to hear from someone else for an idea as well. I would like to know what kind of project I could do in distributed java. I would appreciate any of your ideas

Do you have time to learn all new areas of Java? If so, then what areas interest you
    1. sockets - the web or http, ftp, etc
I'm just finishing this web-bot... it was a great learning process, but it can get quite involved.
Specific examples beyond my web-bot would be a chat program (as already mentioned), a web browser and/or server, an ftp server and/or client
    2. threads - this can be applied to any area and in some cases it is mandatory - like the chat program that was suggested (unless you make the program very very simplistic).
    3. GUI - this is surprisingly an interesting area.... a friend of mine wrote a program that does graphing... it is really amazing. Graph theory is huge in computer science and many other areas of life.
Specific examples beyond the graph tool would be word processor type programs,
    4. AI - obviously Java doesn't have an AI library, but using some heuristics, you could make an interesting program that could be capable of using heurisitics and "learning"
    5. Encryption - Java has good support for this. This could be applied to any communication tool (web browser or server, ftp server/client, etc).
    6. I did a packet sniffer... but to be effective, this should be written in C or C++ (for speed reasons). Although you could grab a random C or C++ packet sniffer off the web (I got sniffit for Linux) and then throw a Java front-end on it.
If you don't have much time - what areas of Java do you have experience in? Give us the libraries you have looked at and maybe we could throw out some suggestions about what sort of programs could be made using those libraries.. my opinion may be biased towards writing a web-bot if you have experience with Threads and java.net
    Hope this helps,
    Tim

  • Help me in Doing my Final Year Project

    Dear All,
I am studying BSc in Computer Science in American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), Bangladesh. I want to work with Java Card. Actually I want to complete my final year project in Java Smart Card.
I want to develop a Smart Card for student as mention in the link
    http://java.sun.com/products/javacard/examples.html
    1. when student insert the card in card accepantance device in entrance of the university all information(Name, ID,Photo, Department.....) will be displayed in the monitor of the entrance. After see the pic get keeper have no confusion about the student.
    2. Student can also use this card to use the facilities of Library and Cafe.
Now dear all pls help me by proving this information.
    1. What kind of hardware i need to complete the project and successfully deploy it to my university. Pls tell me briefly and if possible then tell me the link where i can but it.(If the parts are available in UK then let me know. It will be easy for me to collect parts from there).
    2. What kind of Smart Card I have to use exactly.
    3. If anyone ever develope this kind of project then pls email me at [email protected]
    4. If possible then pls let me know the price of this hardware.
Its very vey urgent. I know all Java lover will definetly help me.
    I am waiting for reply

Well then you have a number of points that can be solved very differently. Does exist any legacy hardware or software that need to be included into your project?

    1. What kind of hardware i need to complete the

    2. What kind of Smart Card I have to use exactly. If you want to store the student image on the card, on of your main requirements would be a smartcard that has enough EEPROM for storing the image. Common JavaCards have 10 to 30kb for data and the applet code.

  • Final Year Project - University

    Hi all,
Just looking some advice and general tips, have a few questions about a final year project I am thinking of doing.
Basically it is going to be a stock control system for a nightclub, particulary focussing on their celler. The system will allow the staff/management to review stock levels and alerts will also be enabled to alert them to order appropiate stock, perhaps a draft invoice could be created automatically once stock hits a certain level.
This is basically to replace the old paper based method, could also include costing for each night.
To implement something like this, what am i looking at as in regards to software and how hard could be. What programs would guys recommend. I have done a little work on Oracle, but its pretty basic.
    Thanks in advance.

I'd say my suggestion is as good as anyones. Have you thought about using Oracle XE with its pre-installed APEX development environment? That should be more than enough to manage a nightclub's inventory.
Here's the link, just in case ...

  • Eligibility for Student and Teacher Edition in final year of university

In Student and Teacher edition FAQ it says that "University and college students—students enrolled at a higher education institution defined as an accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study" are eligible.
I'm in my final year at university of applied sciences in Finland. I've been studying for 4 years. My "standard study period" is over, but I've got one year of "study entitlement time" left. My degree is not completed yet and I will stay a full-time student for next 8 months, using the "maximum study period" time.
I'm unsure about the "two years of full-time study" part of FAQ answer. Could it also mean one has to have at least 2 years worth of studies ahead to be eligible? Or am I right to assume that I can still buy the Student and Teacher Edition as long as I'm a full-time student, no matter how many months of studies left?

What it means is that you're not eligible if you just sign up for one class. You're in a four year program and thus, you are eligible for what may
be the biggest bargain in software pricing. Jump on it while you can.

  • Advice required---computer Engineering final year. Want to learn ABAP.

    Hello,
I am Nikhil. I am a final year student of BE Computer Engineering course. I have a fair knowledge of C++ and good knowledge of JAVA programming.
I am interested in learning ABAP programming and subsequently complete and ABAP certification.
However, I am a complete novice in the field of SAP and ABAP.
I have done some preliminary homework on these two but I wish to do the learning and certification properly and systematically.
Can anyone suggest me ways in which I can start off the learning process in an effective manner and an effective learning method/course for the same.
    Thank you.

check sap.com\india site and go for authorized training centers for training and certification. mean while check the scn site, e -learning's, blogs, articles and wiki's on ABAP.if possible install SAP demo version and do practice. it will help a lot.

  • Final Year University Project - School Automation System

    Hello All,
Im going to choose a framework for my Final Year Project. I
actually intended to make a Desktop Application which will have
nothing to do with online stuff. It will be a data aware
application lets suppose a "School Automation System" like records
of students, performance, results, teachers, salaries etc.
Now i have two options only
First to Choose Adobe AIR, as i feel comfortable enough to
work with Adobe Flex and Actionscript 3.
Second Choice is, Java, Which will take extra time for
    learning etc.
So i want to ask you guys to suggest me whether Adobe AIR is
    suitable for me or not?
I just want to built a data aware application, nothing to do
    with hardware interfacing etc.
So do you guys think that Adobe AIR can be used to make a
database application which will have records in GBs?
What kind of limitations are here?
Thanks a lot for your concern

    Hey manofspirit,
Dude, It is a no brainer at all...stick with Adobe Air which
certainly allows integration with other technologies. Air is hot
and even getting hotter, pretty soon all the INDIAN H1Bs will jump
on this band wagon as well.
AIR is here to stay with capabilities that can not be seen as
visual bells and whistles.. I have been in the industry for longer
than a decade with Java under my belt, but now seeing how Verizon,
At&t, and some other big players are tuning to ADOBE AIR/FLEX.
AIR is the future. Java is good to know, and it wouldn't be
hard to pick Java along the way. You just gotta be patient.
    Thanks.

  • Im a Uni student&need help:JAVA Final Year Project: Undo Manager Problem

    Hey all,
Im writing a Final Year Project and have minimal experience writing in JAVA.
It is an information visualisation assignment which involves reproducing code/text in a reduced format. Sort of to do with Line oriented statistics.
    http://www.cc.gatech.edu/aristotle/Tools/tarantula/continuous.gif
This image will give you an idea of what im talking about.
Anyway, i need to know if its possible to get information about individual undos/edits from an undomanager.
Basically i need to be able to say, for example,
    there are 12 undos
undo 12 occurs at line X
undo 11 occurs at line Y
    etc etc
I need to be able to get this information without actually invoking the Undo last edit call.
Im bringing the Java undomanager tutorial home but from what ive read it seems like impossible?
    Any and all help appreciated.
    Regards,
    P

When I was at uni I had to implement that for the text area of an IDE. All I did was rip off the code from the Notepad.java that comes with the SDK.

  • Final Year Project Ideas

    Hi Guys,
I have to submit my idea for a final year software project and I'm thinking of doing an Air Traffic Control Simulation application written in Java. I am hoping you could give me some response about this idea? Is it to large? Impractical? Or if anyone out there has any other good ideas for a project I'd be greatfull if you could maybe post them,
    Thanks

The air traffic control idea is fine. I think it is a pretty cool project to work on for a college project. I did one where we (3 man team) simulated a street intersection. Half of it was all math, probabilities, statistics, etc. We had to find a way to optimize the traffic light times so that there was no major backups, mainly the Northbound righthand turn lane which always backed up for at least a mile during rush hour. On top of all of the math and simulations, one of the guys created a GUI for it overnight for the underlying simulation. I think this was a 1 month project, so that was about 3 man months, and almost 1/2 of that was gathering data, and determining what probability distrobutions to use, and putting them into code.
for the air traffic control, it could be very similar. Would you just be doing the the landing of planes? Or would you do take off and ground location of planes as well?

  • Final Year Project

    Hi All,
Im a final year student doing a project on a Meeting Scheduler Tool. This must be web based Java project with a backend mySQL database. I have experience with Java but i am not too familiar with web based programming. Im hoping to do my project using JSP. I do not have any previous experience with JSP and was wondering if this is the best technology to use?
These probably seem like stupid questions but i would appreciate any help as the proposal is due up next week!!
    1. Is JSP used to create my interface or to connect to my database? If no, where do i connect to my Java code and to my database?
    2. What tool should i use to create my interface over the web? Is it some sort of publishing tool, like Dreamweaver?
    3. Should i use a development stand alone server like Apache Tomcat? If yes, do i use this with JSP?
    4. If anyone has any suggestions on other technologies which are easy to learn and use, I would greatly appreciate if you would let me know?
    Thanks in Advance

    1. Is JSP used to create my interface or to connect to my database?
If no, where do i connect to my Java code and to my database?
Yes, since it is a Java project assignment, JSP should be used to create your user-interface. You can write code inside your JSP to connect to database. But it is better programming design to create bean or servlet for such task.
    2. What tool should i use to create my interface over the web?
Is it some sort of publishing tool, like Dreamweaver?
Dreamweaver is a very good tool and I use it at home. But there is a learning curve that you may not have time for it. You sure can try though. IMHO, you can write JSP code in a good text editor like UltraEdit32. At work, I use Eclipse 2.1.1 with MyEclipse plugin which has an excellent JSP editor. Since I do primarily server-side programming here at work, I can't give you much help on this matter.
    3. Should i use a development stand alone server like Apache Tomcat?
If yes, do i use this with JSP?
    Yes and yes.
    4. If anyone has any suggestions on other technologies which are easy
to learn and use, I would greatly appreciate if you would let me know?
Since it is a school project, the harder it is, the more you learn. DO NOT cut corner.
    Hope this helps.

  • Final year project need help

    hi there
i am doing an applet for my final year project. at the end of this project i have to end up with a simple uml drawing applet. i have done some coding but am way outa my league and now i am stuck. i have managed to draw lines and rectangles but have no idea how to make the lines attch to the rectangles or how to move a rectangle around the screenonce it has been drawn. my email address is [email protected] if you mail me i can give you my program and maybe you can help me

You are right V.V, this applet is not finished yet, try this one,
press the oval/rectangle/desic buttons and add shapes by clicking on an empty square, after adding some shapes press the line button, by clicking on 2 shapes you will add a line to connect them. you can drag the shapes and the lines will follow.
Use double click for text. Drag the shape out of the screen and it will be deleted.

i'm goin to be do a final year project, n i thinkin to use labview do it.! but i dun hav idea tht is suit...coz it can't use to the station..
anyone can give me some idea??thanks

    Greetings!
Are you exposed to LabVIEW programming before or are you
planning on learning LabVIEW and graphical programming for your design
project. If you are looking for resources the following link is a great
    way to start.
    http://www.ni.com/academic/lv_training/how_learn_lv.htm
The three hour course is really easy. Once you are done my
recommendation is to use one of our shipping examples like temperature
control with DAQ assistant and PID. Please let me know if you have
issues setting up the LabVIEW development environment / programming and
    post any questions.
    Thanks much
