Finalcut 6 support AVCHD?

Hello.
one question here. The new Finalcut 6 support AVCHD?
thx

But not for you. And not for me either. Looks like we're both on 10+ month old "obsolete" G5s, and the AVCHD transcoding is only for Intel macs.
Not sure why the processor chip really matters (other than speed) for transcoding from one codec to another, but it looks like we're out of luck.

  • When Will iMovie Support AVCHD Progressive?

From Wikipedia: "In 2010 Panasonic introduced a new lineup of consumer AVCHD camcorders with 1080-line 50p/60p progressive-scan mode. In 2011 this mode was officially included into the AVCHD specification as part of 2.0 addendum and has been called AVCHD Progressive."
So... is it likely that iMovie will support AVCHD Progressive in the future? I ask because I have a 2012 AVCHD Progressive camcorder, but am considering returning it because iMovie doesn't support a format introduced 2 years ago.

FinalCut/express 3.5 didn't support 'AVCHDlite' - but with a simple 'transplantation' of some parts of iM08 it was possible to teach this 'non standard'-codec to FC/e. AVCHD v1 supports only 1080/24p. 25p/30/50p/60p is v2.
I dare to say, due to sheer popularity, AVCHD v2 will find its way to QT/AVF ...
    but …
    a) this is a user to user board
    b) speculation is against ToU
    c) those who know don't say.
    those who say, don't know.

  • Does this support AVCHD files straight from the camera (Panasonic)??

Does the new final cut pro X support AVCHD files from the camera?  I record with a Panasonic AG-HMC40.
    Thank you

FCPX doesn't import AVCHD files from my Panasonic GH-2, even though importing works perfectly into iMovie.  So just because camera X imports natively into iMovie, it isn't certain it will import natively into FCPX.
iMovie archives will always import because the AVCHD has already been converted to ProRes on import.
In FCPX the AVCHD files from say a GH-2 can be edited natively if you don't want to re-render into ProRes, but to date I can't import them to test this.

  • When will FCE support AVCHD Lite?

As far as I can tell with several Internet searches coupled with a lot of futzing with my Lumix camera, FCE does not support AVCHD Lite. Is support for this going to happen? When?
    Thanks much.
    Benny

Is there an FCE support forum?
    Yes, and this is it.
Feel free to ask questions on the use of FCE or search the forum for existing Q&As.
It's hosted by Apple but is a user to user forum.
It's rare for an official Apple employee to intervene unless rule/s are not adhered to.

  • Premiere Elements 9 does not fully support AVCHD

Don't believe the reviews such as the one on http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ which state that Adobe Premiere Elements 9 supports AVCHD export to a disk. It DOES NOT!
I happily purchased the product last week based on this review, and what I had thought was a solid brand name solution for editing AVCHD video and rendering it on DVDs. Lo and behold this product only IMPORTS AVCHD - the most popular HD format for consumer video cameras. My export choice is to either settle for low resolution on a DVD or purchase a Blu Ray burner and insanely expensive, Blu Ray disks that are too large for most of my needs if I want any type of HD output.
Why would Adobe produce such a brain dead product so long after AVCHD as been on the market? As a result of my frustration, two days ago I purchased Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 for less money and it does a fabulous job editing and rendering AVCHD on a DVD. Furthermore it SCREAMS compared to the Adobe product.
I would highly recommend that anyone who has an AVCHD HD video camera not purchase this product and look at the Corel software instead.
    Am I missing something here?

Thanks everyone for the posts. Although I didn't really ask a question expecting an answer, with all the back and forth reaponses the correct answer is really quite clear. If you want to easily produce HQ quality edited videos on anything other than expensive Blu-Ray disks with an expensive burner then buy a different product. Premiere Elements 9 doesn't do it.
I would HIGHLY recommend Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 for those of you who contributed to the responses to my post. it works great, and with one click you can burn a beautiful high definition edited movie on INEXPENSIVE DVDs. They will play on virtually any of the newer Blu-Ray players, since most support AVCHD, and you don't need tp purchase a Blu Ray burner either.
Hopefully Premiere Elements 10 will get it right. In the mean time does anyone want to but version 9 REALLY cheap? It's worth about as much to me as the salvage value of the plastic that went into the install disc.....

  • Does PE 11 support AVCHD files on a Mac?

    Hi,
I am looking at buying my friend’s Macbook pro (2009)
He is letting me borrow it to see if it will work for my video editing.
Well yesterday when I was messing around with it, I found out that my New Sony handycam records AVCHD files. Mac doesn’t support raw AVCHD video playback.
I would like to edit on PE 11 but I don’t know if PE 11 Supports AVCHD files.
Does PE 11 support the AVCHD files? And if it does support AVCHD files, Will it support them even though this mac doesn’t support the playback?
Is it even worth editing on mac having to go through converting the files? Should I just stick with PE 11 on a PC?
And also kinda some side questions,
How can I make the mac playback the files?
What is the main difference between Premiere elements and Premiere Pro? Thanks in advance!!!

In Windows, if Windows Media Player can play the file, I know that Premiere Elements will be able to edit it. From what I know of codecs, This could only mean that if the codec is installed, Premiere Elements and Windows Media Player can take those up and "understand" the file (for playback and editing, you need to understand what file it is and what properties it has).
While on a MAC, if QuickTime does playback a file, it is nearly guaranteed to be understood by Premiere Elements. Not true the other way around. Premiere Elements can play and work with a file perfectly well, but the native Quick Time does not play them. MTS files fall under this category. I see that this anomaly is because of the way the codecs (needed to "understand" the file) are specific to applications. For example, I had to make QT playback DivX files - to do this, I had to search for a codec and place it in QuickTime plugins folder - that tells me that unless you are using QT for everything on a MAC, you can not playback a DivX file on any other application. Otherwise you need a DivX codec supplied by your application vendor. They are not shared like they are on Windows. I could be wrong with some of my assumptions, the forum veterans can confirm
In short, to really confirm if there is support for MTS files in PRE11, try it with the trial version of Premiere Elements 11. Then decide on the purchase.

  • Does imovie supports avchd files

does imovie 11 supports avchd files?

Yes, Maybe and No.  For iMovie '11, the answer is spread across a number of support responses and in the details of the technical requirements of the related products.
Yes.  It appears that if you keep the SD card in the camera and direct connect it to your Mac you may import and it will allow you to select the clips (as shown in the iMovie '11 import video -- Artcile VI104).  (But see notes below under Maybe and No.)
Maybe.  If you don't have the camera anymore, but you can copy the entire directory structure of the SD card over to a drive and copy it to a disk image then you should be able to import using an import command and choose the mounted disk image.  (But see note below under No.)
No.  If your resolution is set too high for iMovie then it will not import.  For example, using the disk image workaround I was able to get iMovie to show that clips were present, but it would not allow importing because they were originally done at 60p (Panasonic SD90 1080p).  The clip import window (as shown in Article VI104) shows different clips, but they show up as black with red "no" line across them with a "60."
If you want to import then make sure your resolution and frame rate is supported by iMovie.
The other options seem to be:
Buy a software transcoder specific to the purpose of converting .mts file to some other format for iMovie.
Transcode via Handbrake or Toast (results were not great in my opinion).
Toast workaround.  Create a DVD image in Toast and mount and import the image.  This works great.  There is a video on YouTube for it.  The one problem is that Toast will break large clips into smaller DVD files.  It did not seem to lose data, but now one large clip was three our four smaller ones and the time/date data was lost.  You have to reorder them in iMovie.  Quality was fine.  Time needed was OK.  Workflow was awful because of the larger clips being split.
Rewrap the .mts file in something iMovie can handle.  Seems to work fine and is the quickest so far.  There are pay-for wrappers and free wrappers/automator files available.

  • Support AVCHD - Apple TV

I understand that currently apple does not support AVCHD format.  However, as much popularity as this format is gaining and as many maufactures are adopting this video recoding format, I wish that with all the billions of cash that apple is sitting on, they would actually play the licesing fee so they be able to support this format in AppleTV.
While there are other possible solutions such as converting to other Apple video standards or buying another streaming device such as Western Digital, those solutions are not the ideal as converting often deteriates the video quality and buying boxes such as Western Digital negates the need for Apple TV.
Please can apple do something about this? This would require just a software update and not a whole new streaming device.
    Thanks

  • Does FCPX support AVCHD-lite? confusing info ...

AVCHD with 720p isn't explicitly listed, although on the Supported Cams List, I read devices using this format.
    anyone any insight?

This is not correct. iMovie 11 'supports' AVCHD Lite only in the sense that it will convert AVCHD Lite streams to (much bulkier) Apple's AIC streams.  There is no native support for AVCHD Lite in iMovie 11.  iMovie 11 does support a number of other H.264 codecs natively, but this does not automatically mean support for AVCHD Lite.

  • Is the new iMovie 10 support avchd 60p?

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade my imovie'09 to new imovie10 but what I need is avchd 60p (mts) support? I found only that information: native support for avchd video...please help
    thank you.

Note that if you use 60 fps clips for 50% slow-motion in a project, all frames are used in the exported 30 fps movie. Slow-mo is therefore the only situation where 60 fps clips have an advantage over 30 fps when using iMovie 10.
iMovie 9 and FCP 10.1 on the other hand can share 60 fps exported movies.
Using iMovie 9 with 1080p 60 fps, one has to transcode the clips individually before importing since it only supports import from AVCHD v1 directories which are limited to 1080p 30 fps

  • Does FCP 6 Support AVCHD ?

I have scoured the online tech-specs for FCP 6 and can't spot any mention of AVCHD.
So does it support it ?
    Ian.

Thanks David - I do tend to spend a bit of time over there !
When folks are having problems you can never be sure whether it is user-error or equipment failure.

  • Will PS6 support AVCHD format in video?

Please tell me that AVCHD will be supported as it is in Premiere Pro 5.5.  Pretty Please?

Video file format wrappers are tricky because they can be generic in regards to the encodings inside of them.
In the case of a lot of AVCHD files, there are two encodings that might trip you up with playback in Photoshop: MPEG-2 video encoding and DOLBY audio encoding.
Both of these encodings are blocked in Photoshop unless 1.) You install PS as a CS6 Master Collection or CS6 Production Premium Suite product. or 2.) You install CS6 Premiere Pro or CS6 After Effects parallel to Photoshop on the same computer (note that AE also does not have a license for DOLBY audio content though, so that would still get blocked).
AVCHD files may-or-may-not have MPEG-2 encoding and may-or-may-not have DOLBY encoding.  Some have both or neither.  If either your audio or video aren't playing back then this is probably the case.
Note that you have to have a CS6 version of the suite or video apps installed for the content to be allowed with these encodings.  There's also free software available to find the actual encodings inside of your video files.  A software called HandBrake can give you an info dump of what encodings your files have.

  • IMovie file support - AVCHD *.mts

    Dear,
I wanted to buy the iMovie to edit a camera's video file which the file extension is *.mts and it is so called AVCHD format. Does anybody know if that can be supported?
    Thanks

Ummmm, you are way of the mark here man.

Please go to the iMovie Mac forum and pull up old questions there if you have spare time.
But please read carefully before posting incorrect information.

  • (now even) iMovie supports AVCHD, when in CS3?

I have the feeling this post wont be answered (by the people that really knows), but anyway I must say I'm a little frustrated by the fact that even apples new imovie app now supports the AVCHD format.
Is it somewhat confirmed that AVCHD support will come in an update to CS3?
It seemes a little weird to consider a mac with ilife08 included instead of premiere, just to get support for a format that more and more clearly will become a consumer HD standard format.

I have to agree with the guy though; Premiere Pro is nice and all, but it ain't no Avid.
Mind you, I prefer Premiere (it's very easy to use), but Avid has all the specialty hardware, networked projects, group editing, etc that Premiere doesn't have. It's good for a single person doing editing on a single project, but not so good for anything requiring more then one person doing the work.
RANT: Not to mention, Premiere still stinks with HDV because it tries to do native MPEG2 editing which is just too dog slow on most peoples' machines; not to mention it's slower then native HDV in other apps such as Final Cut. (I have a pretty nice workstation and it's fairly unusable.) They need to incorporate a high quality, high performance intermediate codec without forcing us to purchase soso 3rd party plug-ins.
    Anyways...
