Finalizing a disc in DVD Studio Pro

Hi All...
Can you please help me... I feel like this should be simple but I cannot seem to get it.
I am creating a playable dvd.  Wanting to insert it into the dvd player, have it play and it loop.
I found this article:
http://library.creativecow.net/articles/alexzander_alex/single_track_dvd.php
Seemed to work just fine because I tested it on my computer and it did everything... started playing instantly and even looped.
BUT... when I inserted it into my dvd player attached to my tv... it reads it as a data dvd.  I cannot seem to find the option to finalize my disc.  I've burned this to a +RW & to a -R.
Please help... Thank you very much!

If the disc will only play in your Mac, then there's a high probability that you created an "HD DVD" instead of a DVD.
HD DVD is a dead format; having been abandoned by its developers several years ago.  HD DVDs will only play in later model Macs and a couple of (now obsolete) HD DVD player models that were manufactured by Toshiba.
If you find this is the cause of the issue in your case, launch DVD Studio Pro and change the preferences so that it will author a DVD (standard definition), then start a new project and begin the authoring process again.  Do not attempt to change your existing project - that will not work properly.

  • Still Frames Exported from Final Cut Jitter in DVD Studio Pro

I'm on a Titanium Powerbook G4. I use Final Cut 3.0 and DVD Studio Pro 1.5. Within my film I have several 15 second clips that are each a compilation of a single frame repeated many times so as to get the look of a still picture on the screen. I exported my film as a F.C.P. movie and when I watch it in Quicktime everything appears fine (as it does when I play it from within F.C.P.). However, when I author the DVD with Studio Pro (tried it w/ iDVD also and received the same unwanted result)those clips "jitter" or shake back and forth so I get a blurry image instead of a still, clear image like in F.C.P.
I burn the DVD w/ the internal combo drive on my Powerbook. I have never had an issue w/ any DVD that I have editied, authored or burned on this computer or w/ these programs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Ryan

  • Burning a Dual Layer Disc through DVD studio pro

    Formating failed
The recording device reported the not ready error: Cannot write medium-incompatible format (0x30, 0x50)
I need to know what is going on. I tried to burn a DVD studio completed project on a dual layer disc on my mac (which has dual layer capablities) and kept getting this message. I think it is the disc itself but don't have a clue what I am doing wrong.
I have been able to burn the video TS (etc) files to the desktop completely but when I try to burn to the DVD I get this error message.
    Can you help.
    Thanks
    Susan

    Which burner do you have?
What type of media? DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL? Brand?
Is your DVD Studio Pro project set as dual layer?

  • How do I create Blu Ray Disc with DVD Studio Pro ?

Folks, I think that I'm in trouble... I created 3 HD projects with DSP (i do not have the tapes and fcp project anymore, neither the HDV 1080i mov file) and I need to be burned it with a Blu-Ray Media, and play it with a BR Player... So far I made the following steps:
1-) In FCP, I exported some Quicktime Movies with HDV 1080i60 codec (movie with chapters, menu bg movie, extras).
2-) In Compressor, I used the preset HD MPEG-2 19,0 MBPS for videos, and Dolby digital professional 2.0 for audios.
3-) In DSP I created a HD DVD Project (DISC window, GENERAL tab, DVD STANDARD = HD DVD; DISC WINDOW, DISC/VOLUME tab, DISC MEDIA = BLUE LASER, LAYER OPTION = OTP) with movies, extras, menus...
4-) In ADVANCE BURN (under FILE MENU) I chose BUILD.
5-) Now I got a HVDVD_TS folder, with my movie compilation...
NOW, my doubt is... The folder HVDVD_TS can be burned on a BR Media and be played on a BR Player ?
If not, what can I do with my HVDVD_TS folders to be compatible with Blu Ray ?
thanks a lot for any help.
    Best Regards
    Marcelo

That can't be done. Get the tapes back and start over. Get the new Toast in the tutorial I posted to make a Blu ray disc.
You could try this tool to demux the streams, transcode to QT then re-encode for Blu Ray but I wouldn't go that direction unless you know what your doing. You would also be encoding twice which is not good.
Get the original source back and go the toast route from the start.

  • Issues With DVD Studio Pro 1.5 - MPEG2 Encoding & Building Discs

    Hi.
I'm having problems encoding MPEG2 files in final cut express - everytime I try to encode, final cut closes.
Also, when I go to build and format a disc in dvd studio pro, this also closes.
I have looked at updating dvd studio pro to 1.5.2 and although I have downloaded the .bin file for the update, I don't know how to get it to run. The download is from the following link ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120138 )
If anyone could help at all, it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Of all the early versions of DVDSP, 1.5.2 was the most stable and you really ought to be using that if you are not going to upgrade further.
V1 was notoriously flaky. I used to chant 'Apple+S' every day when I used it, just to remind me to save... I lost count of the number of hours lost when the app hung or crashed. That version of DVDSP was built on an entirely different code base to the current version. There are still folk who prefer to use V1 despite its faults, but I am not one of them... although I do still run a version of it somewhere.
The upgrade will be straightforward enough. Double click the file you have downloaded and you should get a disc image. Open it and double click on the files inside. Keep your serial number handy, although I don't recall it being needed for a minor upgrade.
You may find that encoding is your biggest hurdle. Back in the day of v1.5 there were very few cheap options open to you. One was to use the Quicktime MPEG encoder, which was a system file you had to install into the QT folder in the system library. Since the system library can't be altered whilst the system is running (i.e. your mac is on) this was a bit of an issue - you either used the terminal app, or booted into target disc mode and used a second mac to put the file into the right location. Sheesh. Alternatively, you used an altogether better encoder - BitVice. These days you have many different options for encoding - try simply exporting from FCE as .mov and encoding in something else entirely. You need to end up with elementary streams -ideally a .M2V and .aiff (for audio). You should also have A.Pack installed on your hard drive. Use this to encode the audio to AC3 (Dolby Digital).
Then bring those assets in to DVDSP and author quickly. Use Apple+S frequently - like every time you make a change. Don't use the preview if you can avoid it, as it tended to crash out more often than not. Build the disc as a disc image and test it in DVDPlayer app.
Of course, for a relatively low cost you can now use DVDSP v3 or 4 (available on eBay most days, I think!) This uses a far more stable code base, a more graphical approach to authoring and has more bells and whistles (not that you'll need them all the time, if ever). It is based on DVD Maestro (PC App) and is very similar to use. Advantages are many and varied compared to V1 but there is a consequential hit on speed IMO. That said, if your mac is anything close to modern (I author mostly on an old G4 still) then you will be fine.

  • Burning a Final cut Pro X Project with DVD Studio Pro

    Hi,
A project edited in Final Cut Pro X and Compressed with Compressor 4, can you then burn to disc with DVD Studio Pro?
I have DVD Studio Pro on my system but when I burn the project to disc using DVD Studio Pro it crashes all the time.
I'm wondering if DVD Studio Pro is not compatable with a 64 bit system?
    Advise is appreacated.

Thanks Tony that did it, I was using Burn but when I went to Build/Format the disc burned as it should, thanks

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • DVD Studio Pro does BLU RAY? How?

so... i'm using Final Cut Studio 2.
I have an edited footage in FCPRO in this format: XDCAM EX 1080p30
What are the settings in Compressor that i have to use to export my HD project
to make a BLU RAY disc in DVD Studio Pro?
If you don't want to answer me... please give a link to a tutorial or something on this matter...
    thanks people!

You can make SDs from HD footage, you can burn HD DVD (sort of) to play on the now defunct HD DVD Player and you can also make hobbled blu-ray discs with the new Final Cut Studio 3. Hobbled meaning not full blown authoring of all the bells & whistles of blu-ray, but basic menu and video stream.
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/whats-new.html (The Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade is $299 in the U.S.)
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/ (blu-ray burner needed if you want to burn blu-ray)
Toast also offers limited blu-ray authoring and so does Adobe Encore (a bit more)

  • DVD-RW fails to format DVD Studio Pro 4!

The Superdrive on my MacPro 2.8GHz 8 core fails to write to DVD-RW discs using DVD Studio Pro 4. The Superdrive has no problem writing to DVD-Rs.
Even trying to burn data onto the DVD-RW through Toast or through a Burn folder on the desktop (Snow Leopard).
i urgently need to burn the data onto a DVD-RW. What do you reckon i should do?

The problem could also be your drive. I would try a different drive or computer if you can. You can also look at "About This Mac" disc burning and make sure your drive supports -RW, but your machine is new enough that that problem is very unlikely. But you could also try +RW, in case your drive is on the edge of failing.
I ran a test with several drives and media several years ago, burning at higher bit rates (HDDVD) and ended up replacing a "superdrive" with a much more reliable $30 drive from Other World Computing. Verbatim was by far the best brand that i had for my tests, and dual-layer discs had more problems than single layer.

  • Is it true that DVD Studio Pro will not burn HD discs?

I an considering shooting in HD and editing that in Final Cut Express, but I have been told that DVD Studio Pro won't create a HD disc without a very expensive addition of something called Blue-Ray. Are there any advantages of shooting in HD, if the final disc won't support it? Would the aspect ratio be 16:9, but with no better definition?
    Thanks, Bob

You're better off putting it into Compressor and using one of the DVD presets such as DVD Best Quality 90 mins. That will give you much better quality than DVD SP's built-in compressor.
SD stands for Standard Definition and refers to NTSC, PAL, SECAM, etc, depending on which country you are in.
In DVD SP you can change the aspect ratio settings so that it will display in 16:9 on a widescreen TV but letterboxed on a 4:3 screen.

  • Video quality bad when compresed from final cut pro to dvd studio pro. HELP

    Hello,
I have a dvd project im working on and first i tried the video that i captured from final cut to just use in dvd studio pro but that didnt work. then i used the compressor and used the 60min high quality video and that looks even worse. what do u suggest i do?

You must get to know what these settings do to be able to use Compressor. Try using a 10 second test of your video file and encoded at different settings to get a feel for how compression works.
Min 4 and peak at 7, a difference of 3 between min and peak is a good start at CBR, but you must test.
Just like using a video camera, if you use the same exposure setting all the time, most of your pictures will be unuseable, either too dark or too light.

  • Can i install Final cut studio 5 and DVD Studio Pro 4 on OSX lion

Is any body who can help me on giving me some direction on how to install Final Cut Studio 5.1 and DVD Studio Pro 4 on my OSX Lion, if it's doable. Thanks

The easiest way is to install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD first.
There's also a way of doing it via Terminal that's been posted here a couple of times. A search should bring that up.
Edit: Found it... https://discussions.apple.com/message/21416133#21416133 read the second post.

  • How do I obtain DVD Studio Pro....Only in $1,299 version of Final Cut Pro?

I am new to the Mac world. I have been doing some video editing and DVD authoring on a PC using Easy Media Creator and Nero. I wanted to be able to create more professional looking productions so I purchased my iMac. I have used the iMovie app but it seems very 'limited'. I was told that DVD Studio Pro is what I needed for DVD authoring.
Do I need to purchase the $1,299 version of Final Cut Pro in order to get this software? I have not been able to find it as a solo purchase item.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated...

Apple hasn't offered that as a standalone product since January 2006. You may want to look at third-party software.

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,
    Doug
