Finalizing a project issues

Hi, I'm working with iMovie '11 and I'm having some issues finalizing my project. I went under File > Finalize Project and it said it would take 4 hours to complete, so I put the computer to sleep and left it running over night. When I woke up I had been logged out but the computer was still on, I typed in my password so I could log back in and iMovie still said it had 4 hours left.
This is my first project I've created using iMovie by the way...

A. I do never use this (Finalize) as it creates all kinds of resolutions on Publication to Media Browser.
• This takes lot's of time
• This needs lot's and lot's of disk space
• And I don't need all but just a few - very low for e-mail and LARGE for going to iDVD (NOT HD as this and other resolutions makes result suffer)
• If You publich on YouTube or other web... then You might need HD - I don't
B. Low free space on Start-Up hard disk - gives extremely long process times and eventually fails.
C. btw - I never use "Share to iDVD" as result will be much better by "Share to Media Browser" and as LARGE
D. I keep all back-ground processes off during Export/Share and Video works.
Screen Savers / Energy Savers / Putting into Sleep / TIMEMACHINE ! ! ! also turned OFF !

Intel and PowerPC Final Cut project compatibility

I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop, that I use with Final Cut Studio. Both run PowerPC chips. If I purchase a new computer with the Intel chipset, will Final Cut projects be able to go back and forth between the Intel and PowerPC computers? I spend quite a bit of time editing on the road with my laptop then get back to the office and copy the project file over to my office computer. When going back on the road, I copy the project file from my office computer and put it back on my laptop so I can keep editing while traveling.

There is no compatibility issue between PowerPC and Intel as far as Final Cut Pro is concerned. You just have to make sure you have the same version of Final Cut on all machines, because older versions of Final Cut Pro will not open files created in newer versions. You don't have to worry about the processor.

How to add music to final cut project

Hi I wanted to know is it possible to add music to a final cut project from an existing cd or even from itunes? If so how? Thanks

Just drag whatever sound file you want to use to FCP. It will automatically convert it to what it needs.

To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences, click on ADVANCED and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
AIFF
Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
Sample size - 16 bit
Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well. As long as this is chosen as your import option, when you select a clip and click on the ADVANCED menu, CONVERT TO AIFF will be an option.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

Lost final cut projects and events

so i upgraded to yosemite great .. ......then i had to upgrade my final cut x from 10 to 10.1.3 as ithe old one didnt run on yosemite, no big deal, at the time i had one project i was working on in fcp all the others we managed by event manager x and in the respective hidden folders in my movie folder .
when i first opened fcp i opted to update the projects and events later however except for the current working project all the others are stuck in the final cut project - hidden folders and are greyed out i can not select them to update and to top it all event manager x no longer works in yosemite ? HELP
I have tried manually moving them to all kinds of locations but no luck

This is consistent with the upgrade to 10.1.3 from 10 -- the same issues would have surfaced in any OS that could run 10.1.3. In the earlier version of FCPX the Projects were not in the Events folder(s) but are in 10.1.x versions. Earlier projects if allowed to upgrade would have been in a separate folder, but with connections to them preserved.
I don't have time this morning to look up the discussions about this, but there are several to be found. It is an issue that would have better been confronted before the upgrade to Y. Search the discussions for possible help from earlier experiences.

Final Cut project freezes when opening

I'm trying to open a Final Cut project (project file size is 22mb) on my MacPro, and when the status bar reaches 40% the program freezes. I can successfully open the same project on my MacBook Pro.
The project lives on an external hard drive (2 TB). The entire project, including all assets is 1.5TB. Both computers are running the same operating system and Final Cut 6.0.6. The only difference is the RAM. On my tower I have 5 GB and my laptop has 8, but I don't think this is the issue. I have tried reinstalling the software on my tower, making a new project file on my laptop and setting my scratch disks to the MacPro's desktop. Any help?

If this means that you are trying to use your system disc for your scatch media, forget it. The system disc has too many other things to do like running the OS, swapping files and running your programs. This will definatly cause problems.

I had all of my video files that I work on in iMovie saved to an external hard drive exclusively to save space on my Macbook. I had just finalized a project, went to work on another one and files couldn't be found, were not deleted how do I find them?

The other day I had just finalized a project and went to work on another one and when I opened the project I could see what should have been there, but scrolling over the entire clip I would only see black and that the file was missing. I did not drag anything on the hard drive to the trash or move anything. How can I get those files? These are videos of my kids and I am devastated and willing to try anything!

Control click does not work - no option to find files. I have no idea what to do. When I look at the usage of the external drive the space is being used, but I cannot find the files. I am going to try MacKeeper's Undelete and see if I can make any progress with it.

If you are using 10.0.3 or above Apple added a backups folder that for a little extra protection in cases like this. If you quite FCPX go to your Final Cut Pro Projects folder. Find the folder that has the project in question. If it has a backups folder there should be a file with a date stamp and .fcpproject extention, that is your back-up. Just move the back-up from that folder one folder up to the place where you deleted CurrentVersion.fcpproject from. When I have had to do this I haven't renamed the backup but some people to recomend that you rename it to CurrentVersion.fcpproject and it seems to work both ways. Ofcourse it wont work if there is already a CurrenVersion file there you will need to delete that one first.
If you don't have the backups folder or there is nothing in it I am not sure if there is anything that can be done.

I noticed that if I open Final Cut Projects created on other/older models MacBook Pro Laptops or MacPro Desktops, the fonts used in the previously created FCP projects, change their font spacing! which distorts the look of the Text that was written, by oevrlapping on other things that were put & present on the screen.. Another similar probelm is that the Vector shaped used for example to highlight certain words or shapes, also change their position on the screen so that they no longer highlight exact things that we once used these vectors to highlight or outline... Anyone knows how to solve this problem please?? I made sure that the same fonts are available in the Library in both old and newer computers...

You might want to take your question to the FCP forum - if you copied all fonts to your Library>Fonts folder and restarted they should be recognized by all applications. I know that this works for Adobe products, anyway.

student.Where do you want do store the student information? On card or in a centralised database? Who should be able to change information?

2. What kind of Smart Card I have to use exactly.If you want to store the student image on the card, on of your main requirements would be a smartcard that has enough EEPROM for storing the image. Common JavaCards have 10 to 30kb for data and the applet code.

There are project/issue management softwares.
I only know Redmine.
Can I use LabVIEW with such softwares?

I am not aware, that you can hook LabVIEW to tools like bug tracing databases in a native way.
What you can do is performing that link in a context of requirements management. Use NI Requirements Gateway for this functionality.

Sending Final Cut Project to Another editor

Does anybody know what's the best way to send a Final Cut Project to an editor in another city? I need it to include all the clips, the audio, and the sequence. You're suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Try using Media Manager to completely copy all the project's media to the firewire drive. It's easy to miss imported files or images which might not be in your capture scratch or render folders. Media Manager should make a complete copy of the project for you on another drive, so they'll have access to everything.
