Finally.... 4G connection is stable

Purchased by UML290 4G card on December 6th, then the Nexaira BC router, and then the Wilson panel antenna.    Was disenchanted at first with all the config changes I had to make, the random connection dropping, etc etc.   But finally, I can get stable signal and quality speeds (16-20mb down, 2-3mb up).   The router's keep alive function for the wireless card, combined with the auto-email it generates when it reconnects, is telling me there is one last problem.   The "LCP Connection terminated by peer".   About 3-5 occurrences per day.    But if thats the worst thing at this point, thats OK with me.
So now that all my stability issues are resolved, I have to monitor my daily usage aggressively.   10GB goes just as fast as the connection itself!   Verizon, please consider an expanded plan for those who really can, and want to enjoy your service!    Maybe a 15GB or 20GB plan, so that psychologically we dont feel like we're going over a limit and paying a penalty.   Streaming media isnt really feasible with a 10GB plan.

Hard wire..... I wish!!
I'm less than 30 minutes from the capital building in Columbus, OH and can't get: digital cable, DSL, or fiber.  Tried satelite, microwave point to point (lost signal below 28degrees when ice separates wood fibers in the trees that I had to shoot through), 3g with external antenna and routers going back to the original Kyocera router.
Some of us NEED this 4g LTE to work CONSISTENTLY, and some of us do need some pipe volume.
I had some initial problems since Dec. 15th (roll-out here) with a Pantech 290, a Nexaira BC II, the Wilson Dual-Band Panel Antenna.  Also 3-5 drops per day.  I have never been a fan of VZAM and when used stand-alone on a laptop traveling, have used a DUN with great success.  (or on 3g Sierria Wireless products, their Watcher utility, GREAT).  Since late last week, when I foolishly allowed VZAM to run a program update AND an attached firmware update to the Pantech modem, I lost virtually ALL connectivity.  I could not use the modem via the router, stand-alone on a laptop with either VZAM or DUN.  I uninstalled the "new" VZAM, re-installed an older version.  Now I can connect only using this old verison of VZAM.  Pantech support told me that once the firmware update has been run, there is NO way to "uninstall" or even overwrite to a previous version.  Essentially, his comment was that eventually the router "people" will catch up with their firmware upgrades.  I guess that I'm screwed until then?  Now I can't even connect with DUN and I'm dropping connections much more frequently with this older version of VZM and the "new" firmware on the modem.
Thank goodness, 30 years of being a beta tester (customer) ingrained enough sense in me to not terminate my Verizon 3g (UNLIMITED, grandfathered,) service running parallel.  My third level of redundancy is a CopperNet Dial Up phone line ISP connection.  Running a business beside the interstate in the fastes growing county in Ohio is tough when your in the doughnut whole!
When it works, I LOVE it.  I'm just not seeing any degree of consistancy yet.  I DO understand growing pains, but they DO hurt.
For now, it looks like 4g with VGAM on a laptop and Windows ICS on the in-house wired network (also not a wifi fan).
Sorry for venting, just looking to share and hear from others.

  • How I got the .4181 OS finally installed and running stable

    Hi folks,
after a very long night shift, I am "proud" to announce that my Z10 is now running stable in 4181 without any missing functionalities. (even phone calls seem to work properly :-) )
Interested in how I got there, then just read on:
    IMPORTANT:
If not already done, BACKUP ALL DATA on Your Z10 device, You´ll surely need this Backup! :-)
After the everlasting security wipe, which I tried to interrupt several times, by pulling the battery (and the SIM) out, it finally stopped and showed me the connect to PC icon on the screen of the Z10.
So I connected my Z10 and restored the factory FW using the BlackBerry Link Software, WITHOUT having the SIM inserted.
After the first initial setup, I looked for SW Updates, but (and of course) none was presented, due to the missing SIM, so I continued to do some basic setups and "testing" the bare system. All went fine.
After that, I reinserted my SIM, powered the Z10 up and tried to copy the previous backup back onto the Z10, which was (another of course and obviously) not possible, due to mismatching SW-Releases.
So with the SIM inserted, connected to a WiFi and my mobile carrier, I once again checked for updates and voila, .4181 was available, this time having 359MB.
(--> BlackBerry just seems to provide the "basic emergency" OS, all further updates and releases are distributed through Your individual mobile carrier)
I initiated that download, went to bed to get at least a few hours of sleep and when I woke up, I did, what the display on the Z10 wanted: Restart the device.
The then following boot sequence was fast and smooth, reaching the 100% in just under two minutes, no freeze, no hangers, no being stuck.
There I had my bare device on which I could copy my previously carried out backup again in no time!
Of course I had to reenter the some passwords and the SMS were gone, but looking at the last days, I think this is the biggest progress of it all ;-))
THIS is how I did it. Of course I know that I defied against some of the most important rules and therefore I can and will not give You any guarantees that this "solution" will work  unlimited, but considering my high level of frustration and how angry I was, these measures seemed legit to me and I can tell, they just worked fine! ;-)
    the steps in summary:
    - Backup all Data
    - do a Security Swipe
    - extract SIM
    - reset to factory presets using BlackBerry Link
    - re insert SIM
    - look for provider updates
    - install
    - copy previous backup to device
    - don´t worry
    - be happy
PS: Don´t panic, if it takes longer or if nothing seems to happen. What I burnt mostly the last days, where minutes, hours and days
Thumbs up and fingers crossed. I hope this might help You aswell!
If it does, feel free to like this "solution" :-)
    Paddy

Sorry for not being detailed enough.
I have Vista: Ultimate 32 bit edition. Everything works the stereo the 5. surround sound but the main things I did notice is that alot of the options like the crystalizer and various options wouldn't save. They would definately work just when I went into creative console to adjust some more they all went back to the default settings even though they worked and were changed earlier.
Whilst playing Call of Duty 2 it wouldn't use the EAX, I haven't tried other games . I would recommend staying with XP as of right now if you have uninstalled Vista and wait for proper drivers , there is no guarantee the way I installed or explained how to fix will work for you. Just as others before have gotten things to work with different steps to install they did not work for you, so mine not work for you. If you still have Vista installed then why not give my simple step a shot in my first post.

  • Universe Connection not stable

    Hi,
I have been using Universe Designer(BOXI 3.1) and connect to an Oracle 11g DB. The issue is that the connection I have created is not stable. When I test the connection, it would show me "Server is responding!" and suddenly within a matter of few minutes it would again lose connection.
I have never seen any particular pattern in which is happens, but have done the following checks when the connection goes down:
    - Connect and run a query from SQL developer - Runs fine and its quick as well!
    - Monitor connection between the 2 servers - No packet drops!
    - Monitor TNSPING to the DB server directly - that works fine too!
I have around 7-8 active universe's and they all contain the same Connection String as parameter. I have also tried creating different connection for different universe's but I think it hardly made a difference.
Any help would be really great.....thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Keep it simple if you can reproduce from Universe layer :  You want to trace the Universe Designer Client Tool
See Note 1200800 - How to enable tracing for Universe Designer and Desktop Intelligence
also, are you dealing with Webi or DeskI reports downstream?
Consider things like the user used in the universe connection
    Check the windows domain account
Check that the Windows environment is seeing the DNS first in the network connections.
Make sure the Windwos environment is part of the same domain.

  • Broadband Connection More Stable Since Changing MT...

Since day one of having BT Broadband I have used my own router which is a Vigor 2800.  Though my router is on 24/7 I was seeing that the PPP connection uptime would never be more than 20-24 hours.
Recently I changed my MTU value from the routers default to 1500 (to solve an online media server issue).  Just checked my figures today and I see the following:
    Router Uptime: 173:52:00
    WAN Status Uptime: 173:49:54
The Uncorrected Block value is a lot smaller now too at 6480 for 138,967,478 RX Blocks (which is a tiny percentage).
I am not sure though why the MTU value in the router would affect how stable the connection was, unless the router (or BT Servers) were seeing a lot of fragmented packets and dropping the connection.  Any ideas?
    Chris.

    Hi
I have a similar situation, upgrade with BT from 20 to 21CN network, and using a Draytec 2800.
Boy did this cause us a drop in service, in terms of speed, connection drops, intermittant speed problems etc.
Anyway, Draytec were helpful, with many firmware tests, now using firmware 2.8.2.1 B1120 and stable
But still have slow issues (speedtest.net can show pings between 500 and 12000 sometimes 30 times a day , but often on 47ms)
Anyway my MTU was on 1442 until i just changed it to 1500 so will see what happens.
Also if you dont have Outbound TCP ACK Prioritize ticked on the draytec you will suffer bad connections.
The BT router doesnt have this option, and is a big problem. I know because ive had a year of complaining and talks with BT including them sending out network experts to independantly test our line (not the usual BT engineer who (no disrespect) often didnt have a clue apart from the one thing he could do with a little test machine (which always gave perfect results!)
    UPDATE:
Uploading a file still causes the PING on speedtest.net to go to 500ms which on the old network never happened.

  • Camera/final cut connection problem

I can't get my camera to communicate with final cut. I have a new macbrookpro with final cut 7, a new, calumet 4-9 pin firewire and a 2006 digital panasonic video camera that has worked with older final cut systems on different macs, no longer available to me. The firewire fits the camera and computer but the computer and final cut don't recognize the input. I've tried several combinations of connecting the camera, then turning computer on, etc. There's no other mac around to test the firewire on. Suggestions?

We've successfully used these kinds of cables for old FW to FW800 on our newest Intel Macs but not to a portable.
If the device does not show up at all on the Macintosh, you can look at only three possible failures: the cable, the camera's port, or the Mac's port. You should be able to test all with another Mac and a known FW device.

  • Describe WORKING mbp c2d airport internet connection with stable signal

As I read many reports about problems in different configurations and after 2 weeks was not able to find a working solution for myself yet, may I ask users who do have a working and stable airport internet configuration to describe it in this thread? Only WORKING configurations please.
    MBP C2D 2.33 GHz, PB G4 1.25 GHz titanium; AEBS(5.7), AE(6.3), WPA2-personal   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   dell m70 pentium M, dell C2D, windows xp pro

I replaced my 4 years old airport extreme base station (AEBS, newest firmware v5.7) with the netgear WPN824 router and my mbp c2d wireless internet access problems are resolved. 802.11g only, WPA2-PSK. I see a steady strong signal on my mbp c2d (11-15 bars) and download speeds in the range 10-15Mbit/s. Also my older pb G4 and dell c2d have a quick steady wireless connection to the WPN824.
With AEBS my mbp c2d signal varied between 0-15 bars (occasionally dropped connection) and the download speeds on the mbp c2d were in the range 3-14 Mbit/s, but on average 50% slower than with the WPN824.

  • Finally i connected to my wifi network

i did not remember what i did in the settings but now my İphone 3GS connected the my wifi point clearly!

okay, I reset my router to factory defaults, unplug and plug in the cable modem, unplug and plug in the router, and now it seems to be working (crosses fingers).

  • Finally made connection after many weeks

I've posted a few times about not being able to connect from here in the UK to my daughter in the US, but I can connect within the UK. Its been very frustrating. But I found an external Hard Disk Drive which had my old system on before I upgraded to OSX 10.4.3 - it has OS10.4.2 with iChat v3.0.1.
Guess what? I got through to my daughter with it. We couldn't connect with my internal 10.4.3 drive (with iChat v3.1), trying many times, so I re-booted using the old 10.4.2 and connected second attempt. Well, at least I have a way to talk to them now.
This proves that the port settings in my router (SMC ADSL Barricade connected by ethernet) are not the problem; my ISP (BT Broadband) is not the problem; the US end is not the problem.
But it does seem that something was changed for the worse when Apple released the OSX 10.4.3/iChat v3.1 combination.
Any of you having similar problems who have the old system, I definitely recommend trying this.

Do you have a media reader installed on your computer?

  • T440p Wireless connection not stable

    Hi everyone!
I just received three new T440p laptops using Win7 Pro. Unfortunately, the wireless link to keeps disconnecting ever so frequently on all the machines. I have updated the Wireless drivers, reinstalled the BIOS and even optimised power options to enhance the wireless perfomance but none have worked.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

  • Cannot Maintain Stable Screen Share Connection New MacBook Pro

I am having some difficulty maintaining a stable screen share connection. It just keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. It has nothing to do with my network as I have tested it from 5 machines and it's only this one.
Has anyone else experienced this with the new MacBook/ MacBook Pro's?
    I have  MacBook Pro - 15" 2.53Ghz/4GB RAM/320GB @ 5400RPM
    Thanks,
    Dean

A little update. I have found what caused this.
When my MacBook Pro was trying to Screen Share to my iMac it would ONLY drop out when connected to this particular machine. The iMac is a 24" Aluminum 2.4Ghz it is running @ 1920 x 1200 with a 23" Apple Cinema Display connected to it @ 1920 x1200.
When I mirror the display the screen-share connection stays stable. Only when I change it to Extended does this issue occur. I am wondering if any other users have experienced this? Possibly it could be a bug in the OS as it doesn't like multiple displays during screen share.

  • Final cut pro trial dmg mounting error

i downloaded the final cut pro x trial and the dmg file will not mount inorder to install.  suggestions?

Try this.  Digital Rebellion makes a free app called "Final Cut Remover".  Use it to be absolutly sure all traces of Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5 are totally removed from your Mac.
Then launch the App Store, go to the Purchased tab, and "Install" FCP X first, then Motion.  Let's see what happens.  Be sure your Internet connection is stable and doesn't glitch during the automatic download and installation process.
You should not have to touch any .dmg file during the installation at all.

  • Instagram on my iPhone 4S keeps saying that it cannot connect to login server, it won't work!

I went onto instagram and it kept on saying it couldn't refresh the feed. So I turned my phone on and off, deleted and re-installed the app, but when I try to login it says: 'Error: Sorry, we couldn't connect to our login server. Please confirm you have an internet connection and try again.'
I have home wifi as well as 3 bars of reception with optus, I'm at home and it has never done this until today. I tried resetting my network setting but it is still saying the same thing. Safari and facebook still work.
Pleaseeee does anyone know what I can do!?!?

Error connecting to login server / "logging in" message displays, but I can't log in
ON ANDROID, I SEE THE "LOGGIN IN" MESSAGE, BUT I'M NOT ABLE TO LOG IN AND DON'T RECEIVE ANY ERROR MESSAGE
ON MY APPLE DEVICE, I SEE THE ERROR: "SORRY, WE COULDN'T CONNECT TO OUR LOGIN SERVER. PLEASE CONFIRM YOU HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION AND TRY AGAIN IN A MOMENT ."
If you receive this error when trying to create an account or sign in to your account, and you believe your internet connection is stable, we suggest that you try to reset your WiFi router, as this may resolve the issue.
Alternately, if your device is enabled with service through a carrier (ie 3G or EDGE), we'd suggest disabling WiFi and attempting to connect using your service provider's connection.
If that doesn't help, please open the Settings app on your phone, then tap General > Date & Time and be sure Set Automatically is turned ON. Finally, if you're still having trouble, please follow these troubleshooting tips.

  • Wifi connection drops - must "restart" airport every 2 mins

Everything used to worke fine, I live near a free hotspot and the speed is correct. Now (since when, I can't know), it appears that the connection is correct for a few seconds/minutes, then drops. The solution I temporarily found is: deactivate airport, and activate it just after. At this moment, I have a full quality signal for a few seconds/minutes, and I have to repeat the operation.
I tried with my PowerBook: the signal is stable. I event tried to share the PowerBook wifi connection to the iMac via the firewire (cf. system pref/sharing), and then my iMac connection is stable!
I restarted on Vista, and it seems I have the same pb there also, so it's not a priori a MacOS issue.
It can't be a security issue since there is no security key on this network (WPA or WEP)
Does anyone know a program to test the hardware of the airport card? or a firmware upgrade?
    Thanks
(I asked this question on another post, but there was a "question answered" symbol, that's why I'm asking it again on a new post)

My imac 24" Tiger was working beautifully connecting via airport to Linksys DSL router until i applied Airport Express Update 2008-002. It kept dropping the connection even thought the airport wireless icon shows full signal strength.
I scoured the net and for over 2 weeks applied every possible solution from deleting widgets to changing router channels and even removing all items surrounding the DSL router like cordless phone and digital clock... nothing worked. I even dug up the 2008-001 airport update and reapplied that but no good
I finally got so fed up that i re-installed the OS 10.4.7 with the "archive previous system option" and everything worked great. I then updated the OS to 10.4.11 and still everything worked consistently. I applied Airport Express Update 2008-001 and things went south.
I reapplied the 10.4.11 update again and things are back to working consistently.
Reinstalling the OS took a couple of hours but it really is a lot less painful than having an unreliable connection and the stress of feeling helpless, especially while the Windows machines had no connectivity issues. Hope this helps.

  • Tiger VPN (PPTP) connection issues

    Hello everyone.
I'm having major issues trying to connect to office VPN from home; hoping someone can point me in the right direction. (And my profound apologies in advance for the long post -- just trying make sure to include enough detail to debug whatever might be happening)
At the office we have a 3Com OfficeConnect VPN Firewall sitting in front of a Microsoft 2003 Exchange server. (3Com product page for this VPN box is http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&sku=3CR870-95&pathtyp e=purchase). Home connection is a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router in front of a broadband cable modem. PPTP pass-through is enabled in the router config.
At home I have a WinXP-SP2 laptop and my G4 Powerbook (OS 10.4.7) sitting side-by-side. From the XP laptop, I can get into the VPN using XP's built-in client without any problems. The DNS lookup and authentication steps take about 2-3 seconds combined. Once the connection is established, both external sites (cnn.com) and internal sites (intranet.companyname.local) load in a browser window without any appreciable delay. I can also access Windows shared drives on the internal network without problems, including large (10's of MB or more) file copies to/from the XP laptop's HD.
On the Powerbook, using Tiger's built-in VPN client, I can connect OK (though the authentication step takes a bit longer, about 4-5 seconds), but after that, almost nothing works. I can ping the internal DNS server, but after a few pings with reasonable delays (~15 millisecond range), the round-trip times suddenly jump to handfuls of seconds. In the browser, trying to load an internal webpage (http://intranet.companyname.local) times out before anything shows up on screen. In Finder, using Go>Connect to Server... very slowly establishes the connection (~10-15 seconds or longer), and sometimes opens a Finder window... but then invariably times out. I have never once had the connection remain stable enough to transfer so much as a single file from the shared volume onto the Powerbook's Desktop before it times out and disconnects.
On the XP machine, relevant(?) VPN config settings are:
    require secured password
require data encryption (disconnect if none)
    PPTP VPN
    LCP extensions enabled
    software compression enabled
multi-link negotiation for single link connections DISABLED
    server type = PPP
    transports = TCP/IP
    authentication = MS CHAP
    encryption = MPPE 128
    compression = none
    PPP multilink framing = off
and, once the VPN connection is established, parameters are (from "ipcofig /all"):

Proxies are turned off in all cases.

The problem is that despite this apparently successful negotiation, the VPN connection doesn't really work. If I type "intranet" into the browser URL bar, it doesn't pick it up as "intranet.companyname.local" and instead treats this as a search query, which it passes to google... which times out. If I type "intranet.companyname.local" into the URL bar instead, it appears to do the DNS lookup correctly... but then times out again.
Ping times look like this at first:
    PING (InternalServer).(companyname).local (172.16.0.5): 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=0 ttl=128 time=16.605 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=15.920 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=16.154 ms
    ^C
    --- (InternalServer).(companyname).local ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 15.920/16.226/16.605/0.284 ms
... but then if I try it again two seconds later:
    PING (InternalServer).(companyname).local (172.16.0.5): 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=0 ttl=128 time=727.144 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=1727.030 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=2727.260 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=3 ttl=128 time=3726.747 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=4 ttl=128 time=5723.986 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=5 ttl=128 time=5719.810 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=6 ttl=128 time=6720.334 ms
    64 bytes from 172.16.0.5: icmp_seq=7 ttl=128 time=6719.848 ms
    ^C
    --- (InternalServer).(companyname).local ping statistics ---
15 packets transmitted, 8 packets received, 46% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 727.144/4224.020/6720.334/2176.543 ms
OK, enough for now. Can anyone spot what I might be doing wrong, and/or suggest something to try to remedy this? If there is any additional logging/debug info that would be useful, please ask and I will track it down.
Thanks very much in advance!!! /HJ

Problem not entirely solved, but mostly working now. It turns out the issue was with the 3Com OfficeConnect VPN box. It was causing all sorts of headaches and had to be manually power cycled at least once a week, so we ditched it and got a Linux-based Firewall/VPN appliance (http://www.ingate.com/ingate_vpn.php).
Now I can connect and mount Windows drives via SMB (both the command line and the Finder's "Connect to Server" approach seem to work). Performance still exhibits annoying lags at random times, and occasionally the VPN connection disconnects for no good reason, but at least I can get at my files from home. The other issues -- such as being able to resolve "xxx.yyy.local" addresses in the browser by making sure I hit the internal DNS server before any external ones -- all seem to be network configuration issues on my end.
In short, my guess is that the 3Com box was causing issues with some low-level timing parameters or other related settings in how the VPN connection was being established. I was just starting to teach myself about ARP tables, NTLMv2 authentication, and the like when we replaced it with the new firewall.
    Hope this helps.
    /Heywood

  • WRT54G intermittent Connectivity

I work for a cable company and we use WRT54G wireless router as part of our home networking installations. I recently encountered a random problem with connectivity. I hooked up the router to our broadband modem. I set up the wireless SSID and WEP encryption. When I connected everything (wireless laptop, my work laptop wired, and a PS3 wired) everything worked fine. Then all of a sudden the connection dropped out. When I looked at the router the power light was blinking and the orange light was out. After a second or two the router came back up and the connection was back. It did this around 3 times and then when it the connection dropped out again all the lights on the router were on as if it was connected. When I tried to access the router setup page or the internet for both wired and wireless connections, nothing would connect. After putting a new modem and new router in the same problem was happening. I finally just hooked up my work laptop wired and was able to download the firmware and update the router. When I hooked everything back up, it never lost connection as it did previously. I assumed that fixed it. I just wanted to know if there is an explanation for this problem? The problem seemed to be happening when there was heavy traffic from the connected devices. I was using a WRT54G v8. Any explanation would be great?!? Thanks!!

Mmm, now I'm wondering... did you install the EasyLink Advisor? Because I just tried uninstalling it (I can setup a router by myself, so it wasn't really useful...), and since then, maybe I'm imagining things, but not only my internet connection is stable, but it's going much, MUCH faster than before (ever since I first got the router, I noticed a bit of slowdowns). I had some suspicions that it might have been the problem, since the internet connection would never crash when my computer was off, and the Advisor would lag up my computer big time when it'd try to detect the network.
