Finally. A solution for Installing Audigy 2 drive

Seems to be a fairly common problem that I have seen posted on this board and many others. Here is a solution that I found after a couple hours of trying. This solution is valid as of 3 Jan 2006 for the (SBA2_PCDrvBeta_LB_2_08_0002) driver found in downloads. This solution pertains to Winxp.
The Problem:
When installing the latest software for Windows Xp I receive a message to the effect that an Audigy 2 has not been detected.
The solution:
-Download the drivers.
-download a copy of winrar. There is a free evaluation copy located here http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250-0007677.html?part=dl-winrar&subj=dl&tag=button
-Install Winrar
-Open Winrar, locate the Soundblaster file by double clicking on it.
-Select all the files and folders in the soundblaster file.
-extract those files and folders to a known location. (I extract to a file folder that I created on my desktop called "dump" because its easy to find)
-open the file folder and go to the "drivers" sub folder.
-double click on the setup icon.
This installed the new drivers for me. I hope it works for you too! Good luck.
Please post if this works for you, so that others know its a viable fix.

Eks.
My solution does not pertain to the installation of a new card. Windows actually detected it as an Audigy when I first installed it. It wasnt until I did the autoupdate that it was recognized as an Audigy 2.
However, after it was recognized, the Soundblaster software still did not recognize it as an audigy 2, depite it being list in my device manager.
My guess would be that if one were to install a new audigy, if they downloaded the drivers and extracted them as stated in the first post, they would be able to refer to the driver area and get them installed from there without the SB driver disk.
Its merely a guess though.

    I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 operating system. My printer is 2 years old. Windows 7 located and initially installed the printer. It worked fine at first, but after I changed the black ink cartridge, the printer would no longer print in black. Pages come through, sounds like they are printing, but they are blank or with some color (depending on the document). I have downloaded HP's install of this printer's software (took over 3 hours), seemed fine, but now it's back to no black print. I have tried to reinstall (again), but it gets stuck installing the wireless. HP sent Solutions for install, icon. • Finally a SOLUTION for the black-screen problem!

    It took me almost a MONTH to find a solution to this wide-spread problem - and I had to do it by myself.
    I've got a Qosmio x300 (about 18 months old) and started having the black screen / lock-down problem about 6 months ago but it was sporadic. When it started getting worse, I took it in for repair, made sure it was cleaned religiously, had both a cooling pad and household fan directed at it to eliminate any possible overheating issue, made sure all of the *Toshiba* drivers were up to date according to their site, etc... The problem kept getting worse - to the point where I couldn't even open a browser without the dumb thing crashing.  VERY frustrating to say the least.
    Finally I gave up - I removed the nVidia driver that ran the GeForce 9700M GTS video card and used the standard VGA driver.  No more lock downs, but it limited what I could do because the on-board memory wasn't being utilized.  I re-installed the *Toshiba* drivers for the card and presto - lock-downs again.
    Fed up, I went directly to the nVidia download page and chose to have it automatically detect my card. Now, granted, it says to try to use the OEM versions of graphics, but Toshiba's drivers are FLAWED!  I installed the driver suggested directly from nVidia, and what do you know? Full use of the card again and not a single crash!
    I hope all of my frustration, and the solution that resulted from it, can help someone else not have to waste time, money, and hair on their heads as it did with me.  =)  The sad part about it all - this is a TOSHIBA flaw that affects a wide range of systems and models - and nothing has or is being done about it.
    Good luck!  =)

    Which version of the nVidia driver did you use?

  • Looking for a correct solution for fast external drives

    It is unfortunately after having bought already 8 LaCie external drives of 500 Gb to 1 Tb a few years ago (Firewire 400/800) for my MacPro that I heard from this forum that I should never use these drives for video backup because being unreliable. The poeple who said that were right. Out of the 8 drives, 6 are now dead (disc failures) and lost some precious files.
    So now I am looking for a more reliable solution : I read somewhere that I could have for external storage a PCIe SATA controller w/ RAID performance; a solid SATA case for 4-8 drives perhaps. But when looking at SATA controller on the web, I am not certain whether all these cards work on a MacPro (the first Intel 2006 model with Mac OS Tiger 10) or just with Windows. Can someone advise me on what would be the right SATA card to buy for that computer, where to find them and what case I could link it to to install several hard drives ?
    (By the way, my 4 hard drive racks inside the MacPro are all used already.

    I’m on my third G-Tech external drive and I love their quality. I simply grew out of one and gave it to my son. The new mini works great too although my MacPro doesn’t like it when I partition the drive. It tends to stutter a bit and can lock things up on the MacPro. Still, I plan on buying the G-Safe as soon as I can. They certainly offer RAID Enterprise units although I haven’t used them. G-Tech uses Hitachi drives as the company is owned or associated with Hitachi. Either way, they’re hard to beat.

  • Virtualbox 4 - One solution for Installing Windows XP

    This post refers to running Windows XP in the virtualization program Virtualbox 4 on OS X.6 (snow leopard).
    This is a tip for those having difficulty in installing Windows XP from a CD/DVD in Virtualbox 4 which was released early 2011. This method uses a disc image file to load the OS when you cannot recognize the installation CD/DVD. This could be applied to installing other OS systems in Virtualbox 4 but I have only tested WinXP.
    Once you download Virtualbox 4 and install the program, you will need install Windows XP (or whatever OS you choose). If you are having difficulty in installing the operating system from a CD/DVD drive, do the following:
    1) shut down Virtualbox
    2) open up "Disk Utility" (Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility or Finder->Go->Utilities->Disk Utility)
    3) In the left hand panel find the drive with the OS DVD/CD and click it once to select
    4) now on the top menu bar click the "New Image" icon
    5) enter a file name for the image file or leave as is. In the "image format" pulldown bar select DVD/CD master, then hit enter
    6) the new image file should save as a .cdr file (similar to a .iso file)
    7) Open up Vitrtualbox select the partition where you want to install the OS, double click and select the .cdr file that you created.
    Note: You may have to delete the partition and create it again if you had tried to install the OS from the CD/DVD and failed the first time.

    This solution worked beautifully! I would never have puzzled that out on my own. Much(!) appreciated

  • Single click solution for installing and invking application

    We would like to web-deploy a swing application. The users have limited computer knowledge. We can not assume that JRE or JWS has been installed. Yet we would like to provide single click link either to install first or to run the application subsequently.
    I find in this forum quite a number questions related to this issue. The suggested solution is based on JavaScript/VB script.
    Could I please have a working code encompassing scripts and jnlp files for single click solution ?
    Thank you.

    Hello, we have tried the compile the various Sun tools and posting on this forum to create a "close to single click" installation. You can take a look at our approach here:
    http://www.digistamp.com/t3start.htm
    It includes a combination of javascript and vbscript. I would appreciate any feedback you have about problems or ways to improve. You can skip the account sign-up step and just try to run the app if you prefer.
    We still are having problems with Netscape. Our focus has been Windows and Mac, at this point. Our users are somewhat technical savvy and we are getting good user feedback with a few problems.

  • Slow start-up windows XP after install audigy driv

    Hey All,
    A few months ago I bought the Audigy 2 ZS, after installing the drivers my PC wouldnt start up as quickly as it has been doing.
    On another forum somebody suggested that it could be an IRQ thing so I swapped my card to another pci slot. I powered my PC and XP started up smoothly again but asked to install the drivers again, so I did (otherwise I had no sound).
    After installing the drivers only (so no extra sound software such as mixers etc..) my PC started up slowly again.
    Does anyone got the same problems or know how to fix this?
    Thx in advance

    Your partitions are a bit messed up. Windows XP should be on sda1(NTFS) while your boot partition should be on sda2(EXT2), Arch Linux on sda4(EXT4) and swap on sda3(SWAP). The only partition marked as bootable should be sda2, GRUB is not installed on a partition, but rather the MBR(The first 512 bytes of the HDD), so simply select sda when the installer asks you about GRUB.
    As well, sda2, sda3, and sda4 should all be Logical partition types, while sda1 should be a primary one.
    My fs table actually is what I showed before. I don't think partitions are confused in this order, sda1 locates NTFS boot system(Windows XP), and it has counterpart C:\ of Windows. and sda2 is All Extented (which takes possession of all other logical partitions, like sda5, sda6, sda7). and indeed there are no sda3 and sda4 in my HD. sda5 is also NTFS of counterpart D:\ in Windows.
    sda6 and sda7 is for Linux, sda6 is ext4, and sda7 is Swap. so that's it:
    sda1             boot     7           HPFS/NTFS               ------------>    C:\  (where windows xp is installed)
    sda2                         f            W95 Extended(LBA)
        sda5                     7           HPFS/NTFS               ------------->    D:\  (work partition in windows xp)
        sda6                     83         Linux
        sda7                     83         Linux
    So I think table is fine. But I use another approach to assess where the problem is.
    I use ntfs-3g try mounting NTFS partitions in my Arch.
    the result is sda1 cannot  be mounted, whereas sda5 can be mounted correctly.

  • Bug report with proposed solution for mounting external drives for ftp access

    Hello Guys,   I registered to inform you about something I would classify as a bug. I realized this when I used an external drive with my WD My Cloud and trying to access the drive via ftp. It simply was not visible on the ftp, but was accessible as samba share. I digged a bit in the scripts and found this:  /etc/init.d/mountDataVolume.sh   [...]
    ## initialze bind mount dir (/nfs)
    /usr/local/sbin/updateShareBindMntDir.sh --init
    [...]  /usr/local/sbin/updateShareBindMntDir.sh  [...]
    init_mounts()
    mount | grep -q "${SHARE_BIND_MNT_DIR}/"
    if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
    # initial clean up of MNT dir
    rm -rvf ${SHARE_BIND_MNT_DIR}/*
    fi
    for D in `find /shares/ -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 -type d -not -name ".*"`; do
    share_name=$(basename $D)
    add_mount "${share_name}"
    done
    [...]   The init_mounts() function searches /shares for directories (find -type >d<) and bind mounts these to SHARE_BIND_MNT_DIR (default: /nfs) by calling add_mount(). This is the directory where ftp users will drop in after logging in. The problem: find -type d will not find symlinks and external drives are represented by a symlink from /shares to /var/media/EXTERNALDRIVE I propose adding the following code at the end of init_mounts()   for D in `find /shares/ -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 -type l -not -name ".*"`; do
    share_name=$(basename $D)
    add_mount "${share_name}"
    done That will look for symlinks in /shares and call add_mount() for each symlink to bind mount it to SHARE_BIND_MNT. I think this is not intended aka a bug because I found this comment for add_mount(): # - If <share_name> is a symlink to an external volume, then create the bind mount
    # directly to the external volume.As it seems from this comment add_mount() supports symlinks but init_mounts does not feed it any.   I tried this solution myself and it works flawlessly.   Yours sincerely,schnip

    I have found this method to be reliable in installing oracle 9i on win XP without giving any problems.Try it out and let me know if it helped you all too.
    1. De-install Oracle 9i and any other Oracle products.
    2. Clean out your registry, removing all references to any Oracle product.
    3. Delete all Oracle folders, including the inventory folder in C:\Program Files.
    4. If installing from a CD, wait until the splash screen appears then cancel the installation. Find AUTORUN.EXE on the AUTORUN folder of the installation CD. Right click on it, select PROPERTIES, then click the COMPATIBILITY tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then select "Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)" from the drop down list. • HT1444 Running 10.8.2 on MacBook Pro. Purchased Toshiba 1TB external drive.  Calls for installing NTFS driver for Mac.  Any concerns here?

    My MacBook Pro is running Mountain LIon 10.8.2.  I just purchased a Toshiba external hard drive offering USB 3.0 & 2.0.  The NTFS driver for Mac is included.  The compatability indication includes Lion ... but not yet ... Mountain Lion.  Should I be concerned about loading this software?

    Or you could just reformat the drive to exFat or FAT32 and then you won't need any additional software. Also, you can check app compatibility at www.roaringapps.com. I don't know if this includes any type of drivers.

  • Temporarily solution for ATI Mobility HD 3470 driver

    Hi guys,
    I have found a temporarily solution for installing ATI Mobility HD 3470 driver, as shown following:
    1) Disable Intel X4500 in BIOS;
    2) Download a software named as driver genius and install it;
     The software can be download at:
    http://drivers.mydrivers.com/downloa...XP-2003-Vista/
    or
    http://count.mydrivers.com/download....us_v2008b5.zip
    3) Run driver genius and select the item of driver update (the first button on software interface). In the software, this item is shown as "驱动更新" due to it is a Chinese version;
    4) Select your display adapters from the hardware list shown soon;
    5) Click the green button on the lower right corner to start updating and installing the driver automatically. The button is shown as "开始更新" in the software;
    6) Reboot the laptop after the driver installing completed;
    7) The ATI 3470 display adpater will be shown in device manager as "ATI mobility  readon HD 3400 series" if the install is successful. After the operation the VISTA score can be update to be 4.7, while a score of 3.8 can be got for Intel X4500 display adapter.
     When installing X4500 display adapter, the ATI 3470 adapter should be disabled in BIOS. Then you can update the driver for X4500 adapter following similar procedure for ATI driver installing.
     Hope this can be helpful for you guys!! Wish you luck!!

  • What about the vista drivers for the audigy seri

    now that the xifi vista drivers are out, when can we expect the (non-beta) vista drivers for the audigy series?

    Actually, you can use the X-Fi-Drivers for the A2ZS. Simply unpack the install-file (e.g. with WinRAR) and run the setup.exe in the "Drivers"-folder. The Audio-Console will be installed too, you'll find it in your "windows/system32"-folder by the name "CtPanel.exe". I use the x64-bit version of Windows Vista, so the AudioConsole for this version couldn't see the installed Audigy-driver for some reason. After I've copied the CtPanel.exe from "yourunpackedinstallfolder/Drivers/wdm/common/i386" to the System32-folder, the Console worked as it should.Because the Console has not the best variety of the options, I've also tried to install the creative-programms from my CD. I could install the "Speaker-Settings"-tool, and it works fine. But the Surround-Mixer seems not to work under Vista, mooving the sliders has no affects on the real volume. I hope, Creative will release the good-working Software-Suite for Windows Vista, I really don't want to argue with the Audio-Console.Message Edited by theLost on 03-08-2007:28 AM

  • New storage solution for library

    hi, i need some advice on external storage. i have just moved my entire library to an external fw800 lacie drive but it is taking so much longer to come up with the thumbnails than when the library was in my g5. why would this be? i thought that fw800 was super quick but it's nowhere near the speed i was used to. any ideas as to why please?
    thanks,aidan

    Hey Aidan,
    You didn't mention how big your library is now and how big you might think it will grow to. Definitely you could upgrade the drives in your computer if your library is small. There are now 750 gb sata drives available and inexpensive SATA pci cards to attach them too if you need more drives. You can read on the net about ways to clone your existing drives to a newer drive without too much trouble.
    Then there are a ton of different solutions for adding more drives internal and external. I had been using two external housings with about 10 removable trays each holding a 250gb sata drive for a while and that worked really well. I started with just one drive enclosure and two trays and just expanded from there as I needed more storage for my images. Having two made it really easy to create backups of my images because I would just insert an empty drive to the second enclosure and copy the whole drive over and I suspect two of these would also work really well as a libray + vault for Aperture. I had these drives connected to SATA pci cards in both my G4 dual and G5 computers.I got my enclosures, trays and cards from granitedigital.com but you could get them from a lot of places.
    Aperture doesn't support more than one volume (which in my opinion is very poor idea for working photographers who will no doubt generate more images than can be effectively stored on a single volume in perhaps just a week) so I had to get something bigger. I now have a Highpoint Raid 2322 card and their X4 housing that holds 4 - 400gb sata drives that make up a RAID array (Rendundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) all connected via one cable to the computer. This is kind of expensive but has really fast performance, 1.1 Tb of storage, and some safety if a drive goes bad. You can actually create a RAID array with any two or more drives with the Apple disk utility software which is nice, but the hardware solution using the pci-x card is faster. Again lots of vendors can offer solutions to add more sata drives internal or external and the SATA drives have come way down in price.
    I use an Infrant Ready NAS NV as my backup vault which I connect to over the internet. The backup doesn't need to be so fast and its nice to have it in a different location than my computer for added security. All this cost a fair bit of money I guess, but it all works, and works well and I have double security on my files (1st with the RAID, and 2nd with the backup).
    I just hope that the Aperture team continues to fix some of the problems with this promising software so that all the effort to create the storage and backup vaults and then migrate all my images becomes worth it in the end.
    Eric
