Finally, a spreadsheet app for iWork?

Thought you guys might be interested in this blurb I just read on MacRumors.com:
Thinksecret reported last week on a Spreadsheet application due from Apple in the next revision of iWork.
iWork '07 is expected to be released at Macworld San Francisco in January 2007. The newest addition to Apple's productivity suite is currently dubbed "Charts". Charts is said to be a consumer-oriented spreadsheet application, rather than a full competitor to Microsoft's Excel application.
There has long been speculation that Apple was developing a spreadsheet component to the iWork suite. Most rumors centered around a trademark filed for the name "Numbers" back in 2005.
Apple's iWork suite is the successor to the long-running AppleWorks office suite that did include both spreadsheet and database functionality.

We are not supposed to discuss rumours in these forums. However, I don't think there is any rule against dreams.
Keynote has such a lot of nifty things you cannot do with Powerpoint, even though it doesn't cover everything Powerpoint does. Pages has such a lot of clever things you cannot do with Word, even though it doesn't cover everything Word does.
So my dream is that a future iWork spreadsheet application will have some impressively appealing functions you cannot find in Excel. What they will be able to do in a spreadsheet, I have no idea.
(However, my excitement is not so big, that I would prioritize that above Apple's fixing the omissions in Pages, like ctrl-S save to Word and RTF, furigana and vertical Japanese text and so on... I know other people have other priorities.)

  • Any spreadsheet apps for iPhone?

  • TS1702 Spreadsheet app for excel - can't find it now in the store ???

A few years ago I DL'd a spreadsheet app (for excel).  Believe it was Free.  When I tried to install the app on my iPhone 4s (had a 3GS) it would open then immediately close.  It's logo was the white Sum symbol over a blue background.  Can't find it now in the app store.  It was better than others I've seen.  I have files that I'd like to continue to use on the 4S but I need to resolve the app issue.  Since I can't open the app, I can't see who the developer is so I can contact them.  Any help would be appreciated.   Please respond

The Mountain Lion installer is stored in Applications. Open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar, double-click the OS X Mountain Lion installer and follow the steps.

  • Database/spreadsheet app for Z22 & Win7-64 bit?

    I have a Palm Z22 running Garnet v.5.4.9, and a PC running Windows 7 64-bit and Palm Desktop v.6.2.2.
Can anyone recommend spreadsheet or database apps that will operate in, and sync between, those environments?  Spreadsheet should save in Excel-compatible .xls format, and include file password protection.
Also, can anyone suggest a password vault app for the above configuration?
    Thanks,
    jim

Unfortunately your device will not sync with Windows 7. This is needed so you can move documents to and from the device. If you have any questions about this please see this post: http://forums.palm.com/t5/Windows-HotSync/Windows-7-and-Vista-hotsync-instructions-here/td-p/251755

  • I need a spreadsheet App for my iPhone

    Hi All,
    I need some expert advice.
I am looking at downloading an iPhone App that allows me to generate spreadsheets that I can also sync or send to my mac and amend it vice versa.
Does this exist? I have been looking at Pages but I have read reviews stating you can not copy / amend from iOX to iOS and vice versa.
I'd appreciate any advice anyone can offer.
    Many thanks.
    Les

Perhaps I'll wait until Mountain Lion then before I purchase Numbers. I did try and search for 'QuickOffice' but it just brings up the App 'Documents 2', which I already have and I know you cannot amend spreadsheets in that.
You've hit the nail on the head though I need to be able to create a spreadsheet on my iPhone, transfer it to my Mac, amend it some more and then be able to send it back to my iPhone and finish off. I have a few file sharing Apps which are good but you just can't update any workbooks.
    Thanks again.

  • Is there a spreadsheet app for iPad Air?

I use Excel in my business. Is there a spreadsheed app compatible with Excel for the Apple iPad Air? Or even one that is not compatible with Excel?

I highly recommend Cloud On. It's Excel, Word and Powerpoint in one.
It also Syncs to Dropbox so you can access the files on any device that has dropbox connected.

  • System keeps re-setting the default app to Preview for iWork files.

    Hello.
I've scoured the internet for a solution to this problem, but can't find one.  The problem applies to Numbers, Pages and Keynote, and I am putting this post in the forum for each.  I shall explain it using a Numbers file as an example.
For three or four years, I've had a file that was created in Numbers to be opened in Numbers; it's a spreadsheet that I update with every transaction of my bank account.
Until about a week ago, the file would always open in Numbers, its default application, and then the file kept opening in Preview instead of in Numbers.  I checked the 'Get Info' panel and found that its default application was Preview.  This was strange, so I changed it to Numbers.  When I opened the file the next day, it again opened in Preview, and I found again that Preview was set as its default app.  This time, I set Numbers as the default app by right-clicking on the file, selecting 'Open With', and Numbers wasn't on the list, so I went to 'Other...', and in the 'Choose Application' window, navigated to the Numbers app, selected it and activated the 'Always Open With' option.
As you would expect, the file then opens in Numbers.  However, whenever the computer has been off and I have logged in again, the default app for the file has reverted to Preview.
The only thing I can think of that might have a bearing on this problem is a recent App Store purchase.  I bought Numbers on an iWork '09 disk back in 2008/9, but about a week ago decided to uninstall the iWork apps with AppZapper and buy them from the App Store (I just like to have the App Store as the source of my apps, and I had some money to spare).  I can’t see why this would cause the problem, but the installation of these apps and the start of the problem seem to co-incide.
I wondered if the problem could be solved by re-creating my spreadsheet in a new Numbers file, so I opened Numbers, selected a blank worksheet and pasted the spreadsheet from the original file into this new one, but it made no difference: the next time I logged into my system, Preview was the default app for the new file as well.  The problem persists even with new files created in Numbers, Pages or Keynote that are unconnected with older files and after the App Store purchases.
I would be grateful for any advice the community can offer.
    Thank you.

    Hello again.
I followed your advice and created another user account, and in that one, Numbers, not Preview, was the default app for my Numbers file.  Logging back into my original account, I deleted the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file, and for good measure, the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist.lockfile as well, and reset Numbers as the default app for my Numbers file.
I restarted the system, but found that Preview was now the default app for the file.  Perhaps the .plist file needed a second restarting of the system, so I set the default app for the file to Numbers again.  I also put Pages, Numbers and Keynote into a new folder called iWork '09, as they used to be before I replaced my shop-bought iWork disk installations with the same apps bought form the App Store.  I don't know if this made a difference.  I restarted the system and, this time, the default app was Numbers.
Pages and Keynote are also now the default apps for files created by them.
You have been very helpful and I appreciate it.  Thank you.

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:

  • My Macbook Pro was stolen, and I have replaced it with a Macbook Air. New hard drive is too small for a Time Machine restore. How do I restore my more-expensive apps (ie iWorks) on my new Macbook without repurchasing them?

My Macbook Pro was recently stolen, and I have replaced it with a Macbook Air. I attempted to simply do a restore from the Macbook Pro's Time Machine backup, but since the new Macbook Air's hard drive is significantly smaller, a Time Machine restore was not possible. I even tried to choose only settings or only my User Profile (option) when restoring, but the backup was still too large to do a restore onto the new machine. How do I restore my more-expensive apps (ie iWorks) onto my new Macbook without repurchasing them? Also, I reaad somewhere that if you went to the Mac App Store and attempted to repurchase the app and clicked BUY, it would simply alert you that you have already purchased the app (and trigger a re-download)... NOT THE CASE... So I just dropped another $19.99 for a second copy of Pages... Not my intention....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    LM

you should get a usb backup drive as well.  time machine has limited use in my eyes. it saves things. but older things can be errased ad space drops without telling you
nothing beats data redundancy.  2 saves is. 1.    and 1 is none
im personally not fond of time machne though i use it only for a recovery parameter for a mac
id never ever myself consider time machine a genuine data backup tool.  though most do consider it as such
drive clones such as superduper and carbon copy cloner can clone your entire drive for emergency recovery.  and you can boot from them as well o. another mac

I am looking for a spreadsheet app that I can create new spreadsheets. So far nothing looks promising, any suggestions or do I have to go to windows?

    Hi Tx Tar Heel,
    I've been using Office2HD: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/office2-hd/id364361728?mt=8
Its cheaper than Numbers and it also works for Word and PowerPoint files too. I like the Dropbox integration. I can start on my Office docs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in the office and then edit those files with Office2HD when I'm out of the office. Files saves right back to Dropbox so that when I get back to the office the files are already updated. Not bad for a $7.99 app!
    Hope this helps!

  • Hi, I downloaded the app for macbook "Lens Flare for Final Cut" and I've struggled a lot to install this app at final cut . Someone could help me ? i´m from Mexico i speak spanish

Hi, I downloaded the app for macbook "Lens Flare for Final Cut" and I've struggled a lot to install this app at final cut . Someone could help me ? how i can install this app in Final Cut? this app cost me money and not is working to me, i am disappointed sorry if a write bad, i´m from Mexico i speak spanish

This is a user2user board for FCPX - maybe better you discuss your issues with the makers of that 'plug in'
Seems for me a  bit 'fishy', isn't it? - other professional plug-in makers deliver with an installer... That advice at AppStore, how to install it, is ... rare:
How install it ? – click the launch button. Motion 5 will start itself. When Motion is open click save as. Write a generator name - Lens Flare and choose category RGB HOUSE or make it. Click Publish and you are done. If you don’t have Motion 5 look at support site - how to install in FCP.
How it works ? – In Final Cut Pro you will find in Generators RGB HOUSE group, where will be Lens Flare. Drag this generator above all clips in timeline. When it’s there remember to change blending mode to Screen (in video section). You can adjust color, steak color, glow, intensity, scale - apacity and blur of artifacts, position. Any parameter could be stored as a keyframe, so You can easily animate the flare.
so, I don't speak Spanish, lets have some fun with translate.google...:
Hope it makes at last a little sense... I don't trust these automatic translators
(the German translation is ... awesome funny!)
Finally: it's from 2012! Needs probably an update - contact the dealer!

  • I bought iWork family. Do I need to buy a app for iCloud too?

I bought iWork family. Do I need to buy a app for iCloud too?

No. You will not be able to work on documents that are stored in your iCloud.com account. You will able to download them from the cloud and revise them on your Mac. You don't need another app for that. You will need to buy the appropriate apps for the iDevices if you want to sync across all devices - Pages, Keynote and Numbers.
The documents will sync across all devices that are Set up to use iCloud. You need to set up iCloud on the Mac and your iDevices in order for the documents to sync across all devices. You must be running Lion 10.7.2 on the Mac to use all of the features of iCloud.

  • Making iWork the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents

Is there a way to make Pages, Numbers and Keynote the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents, such that if I double-click a Word document it launches Pages and opens, etc.? I know I can do it by double-clicking the Office document and dragging it to the appropriate iWork app in the dock, but it would be nice to have it happen by default. That way I can put Office in my rearview mirror!

Fantastic - worked exactly as advertized. Thank you both!! Office is now a distant memory (except when I have to save in MS formats to send files to the unfortunate masses).
    Best regards,

Can anyone recommended an app for excel spreadsheet. One that I can username iPad that can do the same functions as excel of desktop,or laptop ??

Thanks for the advice. Just don't want to waste money on apps trying to get the right on. Not looking to do too much, just add filters maybe create a pie chart. Will the app you mentioned give added sums at the end of the spreadsheet like it would on the windows version?
