Finally AVCHD Support in FCPS2

checkout this:
Note: Final Cut Pro does not have native editing support for AVCHD footage. However, the Log and Transfer window automatically transcodes AVCHD footage to the Apple ProRes 422 codec (or Apple Intermediate Codec) during transfer.

Welcome to the forums...
and...we know. Mere hours after it came out we were talking about it:

It is mighty cool.
AVCHD to ProRes right away. VERY smart.

  • Native AVCHD support

We need native AVCHD support with no transcode option. if you have a quad or 8 core mac pro it will edit fine.. AVCHD is what the majority of prosumer cameras are and are going to be.. we want tapeless to save us the time and money, we shouldn't have to transcode it (though it should be an option)..
I think apple should realized a free update to support it.. Avid has realized this already and has both native import and AMA support for AVCHD.. now when will Final cut pro? it's making me want to switch to Media composer.

AVCHD not an editing codec. Supporting it would just mean your computer
is wasting processing power doing something silly. It's smarter to
transcode to an editing format and use your processor to do cool
    effects and stuff.

    everyone is going tapeless.
DVCPRO HD is a professional tapeless codec
that also works well as an editing codec.
    So is AVC-Intra.
    But not AVCHD.
most people are getting avchd or dslr cameras
It's a great way to get started in video, but
the professionals who sometimes use AVCHD cameras
know the difference between an acquisition codec
    and an editing codec.

  • AVCHD support in Premiere Pro CS3

I just noticed there is a KB technote, kb403297, regarding avchd support in premiere: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb403297 .
As you can see, the technote says nothing. Is there something afoot? Will Premiere FINALLY support avchd ?

Could you please read this new tech note about AVCHD and advise what you think: kb403297 ( just posted today) link: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb403297
In particular, I would like to know if anyone has experience with the blackmagic Intensity Pro card, about which the tech note says:
    Blackmagic (recommended)
Blackmagic Intensity Pro card offers real-time capture to the PC from the camera using the HDMI cable into the Intensity card. This provides Premiere Pro CS3 editable format, but the sound is stereo only.
I like the sound of this solution for AVCHD editing (it is $250 to $350).....would like to know if anyone has tried it

  • No AVCHD support for me! :-( on 4.2 or 4.1 why??? full version installed!

    Hi Guys
    I have two issues
One I don't have AVCHD support and yes I have a full version but do have the new AVC-Intra support.
Two Whenever I import .avi files they seem to play much faster than the audio. This second problem would not matter as much if I could get my AVCHD data into the sytem without it saying file not supported,
    Any ideas?

Here's what you have to do:
    Uninstall the entire CS4 suite.
Download the CS4 Clean Script and run it at least 2 times, rebooting between each run.
Install the CS4 suite from your original installation discs.
    Update the software.
That you have no AVCHD presets indicates a smurfed installation, either from installing updates or from uninstalling older suite app version.  A complete uninstallation, running of the clean script, and re-installation and update is the only sure way to get everything back to normal.

  • Avchd support yet?

Is anyone getting AVCHD support in FCP? Is it working properly and natively? Thanks!
I am looking to buy a Panasonic HMC150.

A file conversion is not limited by the linear time factor of capturing from a tape. The process is dependent on the speed of your machine, but on my MacPro it runs much faster than real time. About 30% of real time. Plus, the log & transfer function can be continued while one clip is transferring. So you log a clip, start the transfer, then go log your next clip and start it when you're ready. You can be logging clips while others are transferring. It's a much faster process than capturing tapes.
As far as DVDSP creating BluRay discs, you are correct. It doesn't. But you don't use DVDSP to create an archive disc of your raw AVCHD cards. You burn them as data, via Toast. Or, as you said, just keep them on a hard drive.
When you edit from MiniDV or DigiBeta, do you archive all your captured files? I hope not. That's what log & capture is for. You get rid of the files and keep the tapes. Your SD cards are your tapes. Keep the cards, or keep the files from them on a drive.

  • AVCHD support in FCS2 / Final Cut version 6?

Does the new version Final Cut studio 2 and Final Cut version 6 support the new harddrive cameras that record in AVCHD? .. both Sony and Panasonic has newly released cameras.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I haven't seen a mention of this anywhere so I bet it doesn't. Of course it hasn't shipped yet so no real way of knowing.

  • Final Cut Express AVCHD support update for Panasonic HMC-150 / HMC-151

    Hi,
There has recently been an update for FCS for compatibility with this new camera from Panasonic. However, FCE has not been updated. Are there any plans to update FCE in a similar way?
    Many thanks,
    Stuart

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of it like that, but you may well be right.
I guess I'd better put FCS on my Xmas list.
By the way, I taught myself FCE using your book in about 2 weeks, very helpful! Thanks!

  • Fresh install of PPro CS5.5 on Mac - missing presets and AVCHD support

Oh, this is crazy.  How on earth is this not bug-fixed?
I'm in the middle of setting up a new editing suite for my Secondary school where I am a Media Studies teacher.  I've got a handful of Macs running fresh installs which I've installed new legal, site licensed Premiere Pro CS5.5 installs on.  By default, as in many workplaces, the Macs require admin passwords for internet and install settings, which I applied.  None of the machines have had trial versions od PPro CS5.5 or previous versions of PPro.
    The issues:
None of the fresh installs contain the presets for  AVC-Intra, AVCHD, Digital SLR, XDCAM EX, XDCAM HD422, and XDCAM HD.  Which is kind of a disaster, as we have brand new Panasonic HDC-SD900 AVCHD cameras waiting to load up footage for editing.
Further to this, none of the macs will load or recognise the AVCHD footage when I try to add it.  I get "unsupported compression type" errors.
Am I missing something basic here, or am I about to enter the "delete everything adobe, reboot, reinstall, reboot" loop from hell to try and fix an entire roomful of machines?   Is there ANY way to check if the presets are on the Macs?  Is there any way to link them back into PPro if they are?  And finally, is there any way to get CS5.5 to recognise AVCHD as a recognised format (which is why I bought the site license in the first place!  Premiere Pro is meant to have the easiest AVCHD compatibility of all the editing suites!).
    Grr.  Dammit.
    Ideas?

Okay, this turned out weird.  Fixed now, but WEIRD.  After the deafening silence on this forum, I went and did some reading on other threads and with other people having similar (but it seems not the same) issue.  It seems that there could have been three different causes: here's what I did to fix things, I'd be fascinated if anyone with closer links to Adobe comes up with the technical explanation of why this turned out the way that it did.
    Possible issues:
    (1) Install may need to be done as Admin, rather than standard user on a Mac
    (2) firewall/proxy server maybe isn't allowing some anonymous callback from premiere to adobe to register presets/codecs
    (3) something else weird involving registration... some people have had issues with time zones, of all things.  see below.
    What I did:
    (0) Took everything off the school network and put on my home wireless network: no firewall, direct connection to internet.
    (1) Tried Ann Bens's suggestion above.  Was unable to deactivate software while logged in as Admin on my mac.  Came up with error code 255:255 in the notification box, even though I never had a trial version installed on this box.  This was the same error I got at school, so I'm tentatively ruling out proxy/firewall issues.
    (2) Read the forums some more.  I'm in New Zealand, it's currently daylight savings time (GMT +13) here.  In http://forums.adobe.com/message/4007876, someone in NZ had a different but similar problem with registering/deregistering Premiere Pro software during NZ daylight savings time, and found that changing to ANY other time zone fixed their issue.
    (3) Thought "what the hell", changed the time zone to Samoa (couldn't bring myself to do Australia...) and rebooted as admin.
    (4) Successfully deactivated software, no error messages.  Interesting.
    (5) Uninstalled premiere pro.  Rebooted as admin.
    (6) Ran adobe cleaner tool.  Found some scraps, killed them off.  Rebooted as admin to be on the safe side (still on Samoa time)
    (7) Installed Premiere, no issues at all.  Registered, no issues at all.  All preset settings present and correct, no issues getting AVCHD files.
    (8) Changed time zone to NZ day light savings time.
    (9) Everything still works.
Hm.  Adobe, SOMETHING is wrong with the way your software is handling timezones and registration of codecs/software on Premiere Pro CS5.5.  Seriously, does anyone have a clue why this might be happening?
So, solved.  Shall I give myself a tick for "correct answer" and "helpful answer", given I solved my own thing with no help from tech support?

  • No AVCHD support in Trial version?

Well, I've just spent hours downloading Premiere Pro 4.0 trial and done the install. Everything seems to be working fine. But it appears that they have left out the AVCHD import function. Since this is the only format that I currently use, I need to have this present to properly evaluate this software. I just completed a 30 day trial of Sony Video Vegas, which comes with built in support for AVCHD.
So what's the secret here? Does Adobe want me to simple abandon this trial and move on to Final Cut Pro on my Mac to see how that compares to Video Vegas? Sigh. There was no warning that the trial doesn't work with AVCHD. Did I miss something???

100% agreed!!!!! Moving on to FCP Studio 3
Not being able to test-drive a software's new functions, is like going to buy a new car, and upon getting in to test-drive, you find that they have removed the steering wheel!
    Ha!
moving to FCP with ya my friend.

  • LR 4 AVCHD support - how to preserve quality for future use?

I was excited to see that LR 4 would support the AVCHD format, but I've run into a bit of a Catch-22.  I have a Panasonic Lumix GH2 that records very good video in AVCHD format, and previous to LR 4 I've had to use Final Cut Pro to import the video files from the SD card, which can be hard to remember to do (a dumb problem, but a real one).  So with LR 4 being able to import and work with AVCHD files, it's a step forward, but the question becomes how to preserve maximum qualtiy of the files for future, possibly professional, use.
AVCHD is of course a compressed format, and so is h.264.  When I saw that one can export from LR 4 in "Original" format, I assumed it would be possible to establish a workflow wherein the files could be imported from the card into LR 4, then, if desired, exported (using "Original" format) and imported into Final Cut in Apple Pro Res format (minimal compression) for instance.
But the problem is that Final Cut doesn't see anything valid in the directory structure that LR creates in its export process, whereas it does see valid files when it's pointed to the original files on the card.  Is it a simple problem of directory sturcture?
I think there should be more professional export options for AVCHD files, such as Apple Pro Res, or an uncompressed format.  At the very least, there should be a simple and obvious workflow in which LR imports the files and, in copying the files from the card, creates the directory structure that apps such as Final Cut need in order to see the video files.
    Thanks

    Hi,
DSS has inbuilt functionalities to compare the transactions against the in built rules. If the transactions take place not in accordance with the in-built rules,it is treated as a "violation" and is reporetd.
Virsa is an example of DSS tool. Here you can build rules for access and process ;constantly compare the actuals Vs the rules;report the violations.
In SAP R3 for example, the T/code:pfcg is tailored for access control, while the invoice parking [f-63] is tailored for process control.Using VIRSA,you can address to risks involved both, namely, access and process control. This is an example of how DSS can help in Risk integration.
In these tools,we have an Engine for building the rules-based on this we build the rules. These rules are stored in a table.when a transaction-for which we have built a rule - takes place, the system compares the rules VS actuals. The inconsistencies if any are reported as violations.
    Hope this helps.

  • AVCHD support - Does Lightroom 5 support the 60P 28MBPS setting ?

The link here says AVCHD is supported : http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/video-support-lightroom-4-3.html
but there are many cases whereby other software (ie Aperture) says they support AVCHD but in reality not all settings/varieties.  Before I commit to a purchase, can someone actually confirm that the 1920x1080 with the 60P and 28MBPS setting on my Panasonic G5 camera will actually work OK on Lightroom 5, thanks a bunch.

  • AVCHD support for iMovie yet?

I posted this in an old thread but not sure if anyone is looking there anymore so have re-done it here.
ok, now it's mid March. Any more news on whether there will be a software update that will let iMovie support AVCHD?
I've got footage here I can do nothing with.
I can't believe the Sony HDR-SR1 doesn't have a firewire port and only comes with Windoze software. I know the Mac market is small but surely there's still a huge number of people who bought the cam and now can't edit their footage?!
Sony, Apple, get it sorted! grrr.
PPC G5 Dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 GB Ram ATI Radeon X800 XT

This hard drive camera records using MPEG-2. That is the same as most all of the new DVD cameras.
This format is for playback and is not intended to be used as an editing format.
You will need to convert that format into a DV format that imovie can use.
MPEG Streamclip http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html is free and Apple's QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
is about $20.00. They are the tools that you need to download to convert these files.
Once you do that...these are the steps I once copied from a DCR-SR100 user...(I have not done this myself, but I assume it is similar)
To transfer the data to the Mac:
1- Plug the USB cable, once detected , press HDD on the touch screen panel
2- Go to Finder (on the Mac) then open the videos folder /MP_ROOT/100PNV01/M2U0001.MPG for example
3- Drag the .MPG file to the mac
4- Start Streamclip (see message further up the discussion)
Export using for example .DV format, readable by iMovie.
5-Import the new file in imovie

  • Final Cut supported formats...

As I was unable to find a solution to my problem at Final Cut Pro help page , I have decided to post this here .
I bought my PB with FC Express 2 preinstalled .
Now , I shoot my "videos" with a Sony Cybershot photo camera . When I copy the footage onto my PB's HDD it comes in .mpg format .
I can watch that just fine with Quick Time (both video & audio). When I import the footage into FC and place in the trim window or the timeline , it doesn't have any sound anymore . This is quite annoing because the Final Cut help documentation says mpg is a supported format , and there is no bundled software within the Mac OS X to convert the footage into another supported format (like avi or mov) .
iMovie doesn't even import the files at all , Graphic Converter does open the files but doesn't export the sound .
I even tried to rip the sound from the footage with QT Pro in order to import it separately onto the audio timeline , but amazingly the option in Quick Time disappears from the export dialog box options ( though it works with divx and xvid ) .
I'm out of ideas , and I really need to make this work .
And I'm not gonna go back to Windows just for that .
Sorry if this is not the place to post this but I'm a bit desperate as I have some deadlines for some projects .
Thanx in advance for any sugestions .

    .mpg format

  • Canon Vixia HF R62 AVCHD Support

I purchased the recently-released Canon Vixia HF R62, and am having trouble with iMovie recognizing my AVCHD videos. iMovie's camera support page confirms that AVCHD is supported.
However, when I attempt to import new movies in iMovie 10.0.7, only MP4 movies are available.
While I had hoped that an iMovie update might resolve this issue, it appears that the 10.0.7 update released March 9th did not resolve it. I also installed Security Updated 2015-002 hoping it may have some drivers snuck it, but alas it did not (I also installed the security update for the, you know, security, but I digress...).
Does it usually take Apple a bit to update iMovie with drivers for new cameras?
Thank you all in advance for any guidance you can offer.
