Finally fixed iTunes beachball problem, an Apple TV workaround

Like many other folks, since iTunes 9 came out I have had to endure the dreaded beachball with every stupid tweak of my iTunes tags. As it turns out, it was due to a setting in my AppleTV preferences. When I turn off "Look for Apple TVs", iTunes is MUCH snappier, and I can edit tags, scroll when I want, switch views, etc without having to wait for the beachball to stop spinning. I just have to remember to check it back to looking for the Apple TV when I am done making my edits.
Hopefully this workaround will be unnecessary after the next versions (ahem, bugfixes) of iTunes 9 and Apple TV(3.02? 3.1?)come out.
Also remember, it appears that there's a lot of confusion out there on streaming to the Apple TV. When set to Sync, The Apple TV will only sync per your settings, and will stream the rest of your content automatically. All content will be visible under My Movies, My Music etc, even if it is not being stored on the Apple TV's internal hard drive. I am currently using over 2TB of content through a 160GB Apple TV. Hardwired over powerline ethernet converters. I have unchecked all media types and everything just streams. Works fine.

I'm very similar.
Stream 90% of stuff over Devolo powerline ethernet adaptors or wireless n.
Majority of stuff does not need to be synced to enjoy it.

  • Itunes Crashing, Problems with Apple ID

    Hi guys,
Is anyone else getting extremely frustrated with their iTunes crashing. I have the latest version of iTunes, running on a Dell Computer (Windows 7) however I'm getting problems across my iPhone, iPad, Apple TV & iPod - and other PCs:
1.) When syncing my iPod the process is very slow than when it's approx 80% complete - iTunes has to close due to an unspecified error.
2.) When I 'Update iTunes Match' to try and download the mp3 files to another computer and sync with that instead - iTunes closes immedietaly.
3.) When I try to log in with my Apple ID - iTunes closes immedietaly.
4.) If I go to another PC, download the latest iTunes and then open up the iCloud from there (in the attempt to download all my music from there, rather than get off the hard drive of my laptop) - after a few moments I get an error message: "can't connect at this time" but iTunes remains open.
5.) I cannot purchase or update any apps on my iPhone or iPad (same message as point 4).
6.) I cannot use iTunes Match with my Apple TV (same message as point 4).
I rang up the Apple Customer Service (after 45 mins) they advised they will re-set my Apple ID to see if that will resolve the problem which would take three hours. Eight hours later I haven't heard anything back, problems still occurring.
    - Is this a software bug that others are experiencing? Or is this something I've done by altering files etc?
    Help is much appreciated!

  • Use this link to report your itunes downloading problems to Apple

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

After spending the better part of the morning on the phone with my ISP Comcast, in Memphis, TN they swear it is not their issue. They had me run several tests to the modem, internet speed and browswer and according to them, it was all fine.
Because the the music store is the only feautue I cannot open
(no problems accessing other websites), they feel it is an Apple issue, with iTunes in particular. I am inclined to agree since I was able to access the music store briefly this morning.
I would encourage everyone to contact Apple by email. If enough people do so, they will have to fix the issue if it is an Apple problem (imagine how much business they lost this weekend from people being across the country being unable to buy music), If it is not an Apple issue, they can certainly exert some pressure on the ISP's regarding the connections.
In general I have not liked the new version of iTunes and noticed slower connections when I downloaded it even when I could get to the music store.

  • How do you fix a scrolling problem on Apple TV?

When I click the remote once, it scrolls to end of row or column.  I've restarted via remote, unplugged (restarted), restored to factory default = still have scrolling problem.  Tried 2 different remotes, same problem with each.  Tried unparring then reparring = no joy.

You can only patch a router so many times before patching becomes useless.
Sounds like you are trying to argue that you should be able to keep a router around for 5 plus years even though hardware and software standard have grown beyond what an old router can handle.
Anyone here still using their Router that only supports A and not b and g?
I think not i can sqee myself replacing my fantastic d-link extreme N within 2 to 3 years by then it would be a 6 year old router....... Do you have to upgrade new hardware? Well look at the support life cycle of the company that made it.... If they are no longer offering patches for old hardware then it means more than likely it is no longer in active support...... Support anyway in most companies is 2-5 years anyway and your argument is that you want to go up and beyond squeezing that turnip..... If so then go to open source soft mod websites for your router

settigns>itunes and app store to make sure you are signed in.. If  you are, you will see your account name..... anyhow, click your account name, sign out and sign back in
also go to to settings>general>reset and reset network settings... if that doesnt work settings>general>reset and reset all settings!
one of those shall work. The last step would be to restore your device (apple.com/support) HT1414

    not!! no difference whatsoever

glad you're up and running again, Bradley.
here's the documentation i've seen (so far today) on specific fixes:
iTunes 7: How to improve performance while burning or ripping CDs
iTunes 7 for Mac: AirTunes won't connect to remote speakers
iTunes 7 for Windows is unable to display album covers in Cover Flow
and here's a new troubleshooting document on a specific cause of an itunes problem:

... probably a good idea to keep an eye on this document to check for new documentation for a while:

  • Apple solution to iTunes install problem - More needed from Apple

Apple has published a fix for the problem arising from attempts to install the latest iTunes upgrade at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3074.
In it they suggest the issue may be caused by a bad installation of a version of Microsoft's .NET Framework.
Find this somewhat preposterous for the simple reason that all was well until the attempt to load the new upgrade of iTunes.  For Apple's suggestion to hold true it can only mean that none of my other applications make any use of MS.NET Framework, which I very much doubt.
Performed the fix for Windows7 prescribed by Apple, namely downloaded and ran Microsoft's .NET Framework taking the 'Repair' option when prompted. When Repair completed successfully you have to shut down and restart Windows to make the repaired software available.  Did this and on restart lo and behold the R6034 message appeared again.
Did a search of the Registry for 'R6034' but not found.
Being unsure what was issuing the message deleted iTunes and restarted the system.
Again lo and behold the R6034 message appeared again.
Fortunately had been away from my computer for several weeks, and as the only upgrade actioned since my return was for iTunes carried out a System Restore.  This got rid of the R6034 message, everything worked fine, and when I shut down Microsoft automatically reinstalled all its upgrades after the Restore point.
Then moved to put back the iTunes upgrade prior to the current one.  ITunes stopped me in my tracks by halting the reinstall because "A later version of the program had been installed". Presume this was because iTunes detected from its records that I had actioned the latest upgrade
As I see the iTunes upgrade as the problem, I'm hoping firstly that someone from Apple will read this and:
1     provide more support than it has to date; and
2     allow those who want to pass on the upgrade reinstall the previous version of ITunes.
    Cheers.

Intresting notes... When you download album artwork from iTunes it really doesn't add it to the MP3 track, it stores it elsewhere and assoicates it internally some how to the album. Where as adding a artwork in through the actual file will change the size of your MP3 track, by embedding the artwork into it so that other apps (like windows media) can see them.
That would be an interesting find if that is indeed the case.... Furthermore if that solves the problem, than apple should have an easy fix on thier hands.
However, since most of my music is direct downloads from iTunes and has the artwork directly embedded into the music files like I mentioned above that might be why I've never encountered the issues.... As I found out about this quirk a while back, because some of the tracks on the PC or on my iPod would never show the album cover before...
Hopefully someone else with the same problem can help confirm this possible solution!

  • ITunes 10.5.2  Apple ID problems

    iTunes 10.5.2 just installed.
Now when I try to update apps on appstore on my Mac I get the message 'the Apple ID you entered couldn't be found or your password is incorrect'.  I get the same message on the Mac when I try to sign in to Apple Support Community for help! However I am definitely using the correct ID and password. I can log in on my iPad no problem  and am using the iPad to post this request for help.
Please could someone advise what to do
    Thank you.

Had same problems here this morning, but it eventually fixed itself. There seems to have been a lot of problems with Apple ID logins, perhaps things overloaded with the iTunes Match service just being launched in new parts of the world.
My advice is not to do anything, especially don't change your Apple ID password as this leads to even more problems with other devices and services! I know its hard but being patient is the best approach.

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Sometime that won't work and you need to do more

  • Anyone know when Apple will bring out a patch to fix the volume problem you get on mac mini after downloading OS 10.8.5

Anyone know when Apple will bring out a patch to fix the volume problem you get on mac mini after downloading OS 10.8.5?

Only Apple knows the answer to whether or not there is a verified problem and if so when will a fix be released.  As is their custom, Apple does not talk about these things and the rules of these communities prohibit speculation about future udates or upgrades. It is probably safe to say if a fix is deemed necessary it will be called OS X 10.8.6.
