Finally G4 to Intel Mac.  Photoshop CS to Intel upgrade or plug-in?

Finally G4 to Intel Mac.  Photoshop CS to Intel upgrade or plug-in?  Do I have options?

No way. You need to buy CS6 or sign up for Creative Cloud. There's no magic switch and upgrade eligibility for CS ended by the time around CS3... You are way behind the times...

  • Upgrade from Tiger Intel Mac XServe to Leopard Intel Mac XServe

    Hi,
I would like to find out whether if i have created existing LDAP users, network shared drives hosted on XServe Raid, what are the measures to be taken before performing an upgrade? Would appreciate if anyone could help me.
    Thank you!
    Cheers,
    Stephanie

    Hi Stephanie
In 'theory' there should not be a problem.
However as already stated I've tried this at a number of sites and its been a problem every time. Others on the forum have found this too. I think its mainly because of issues with DNS and the config files used. Under Tiger these were /etc/named.conf and /var/named. Under Leopard its slightly different. See:
    http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20071031195155456&query=Leopard%2BDNS
I'v tried numerous things that ultimately only a clean install would solve. I hope ou have prepared your 'ground' well as you may end up doing this regardless of what you decide.
How do I backup all user's home directories?
There should be no need to do this if home directories are not stored on the system drive. Although its always a good idea to have backups of as much as possible - just in case.
How do I backup the entire LDAP database?
Server Admin > Open Directory > Settings > Archive
The LDAP database contains information regardiing all users, groups, machines, UIDs, GUIDs, MCX and passwords amongst other things. Home directories are not stored in the LDAP database.
Is there a possibility that all LDAP users and password might not be able to migrate over to the new leopard OS?
Provided you keep everything the same in terms of DNS, IP address, hostname etc then it should be OK. Although you never know? Its always a good idea to have a fallback position just in case. If you have the facility/luxury of using a test server first then use it. It could save you a lot of heartache/hassle/time later on.
Follow the advice I've given and you should be OK regarding home directories. Basically it boils down to this. Before upgrading or clean installing back up all home directories. Un-automount and un-share the folder used for home directory creation and automounting. Archive the LDAP database and on top of that export all Users and Groups as an extra safeguard.
If the folder used for home folders is on an external drive or another internal drive you should be OK in simply unsharing it.
Will there be any compatibility issues to access the shared folder from Tiger OS client computer?
In my experience I have not seen this. Ideally you should try and have everyone on the same OS.
What I have found is if your environment varies slightly from the 'Apple standard model' then you will in all likelihood have problems. Your mileage may. This is something I think some people who post on these forums fail to realize? It is understandable though as most most people's requirements or environments do not 'conform' to that standard - although it is hard to figure out what that standard is sometimes as the documentation is - shall we say - incomplete.
In which case you are (apart from online resources) generally on your own.

  • Intel Mac Mini Duo on WiFi network

Just got my Intel Mac Mini Duo and had upgraded to 10.4.6, firmware, boot camp, Windows XP Pro all running alright.
I had an Airport Extreme and Airport Express based wireless network at home configured with closed network. My PB G4 and another Sony Viao sitting in the same room running nicely over the network to the Internet. Everytime I started the Mini it can locate the closed network and connected but no connection status, and no matter how long I had waited the same thing happened. The only work around is turn off the airport and turn it on again. But still though sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Any one got any clue what's happening or having similar experience?

No, it will not work on intel macs. You need to upgrade to 2.2
    good luck.

  • Cannot install Photoshop CS2 on Intel Mac 10.4.6 or 10.4.7

    Hey,
I have just tried to install Photoshop CS2 on an Itel MacBook Pro but it gets stuck while installing "Shared Packages" of "Adobe Help Center".
    Any idea out there?
    Thanks

Please don't say that CS2 doesn't work under Rosetta, when it does. There are performance issues, and for those who use CS2 for large, system intensive purposes have good reason to not want to upgrade to Intel, but that doesn't mean CS2 won't work.
I haven't experienced the install problem personally, but googling "cs2""intel""mac" yields this article:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060524084530919
To summarize, it may be an issue with either Quicktime 7.1 or Adobe Version Cue.
    Good luck.

  • Does Photoshop Elements 4 function in Leopard on Intel Mac?

I am aware that it is not at all supported by Adobe, but has anyone been successfully using Photoshop Elements 4 on Leopard and Intel macs of any sort?
    thank you

I had PE4 installed and it was painfully slow and laggy that's why I tried pixelmator and I was so surprised at how wonderful it was.
    mcgrover wrote:
I'm repeating a little from above, but at the Apple store they told me PE4 was the latest and most compatible, but when I called Adobe support, the Adobe guy told me there were compatibility issues with PE4 and Leopard, though note that some posters here seem OK with 4 and Leopard. I suggest talking to Adobe support, but they may tell you PE6 is the fix for Leopard, in which case why does 4 work with Leopard? When I told the Apple store that Adobe said that 4 had problems with Leopard, Apple said that Adobe never communicated that to them. I have no more to offer as I don't have 4 to try it. I can say that 2 is dead in the water. Still looking at Pixelator.

  • Adobe photoshop elements2 on intel mac

I installed photoshop elements 2 to my intel mac & when I try to print (Epson photo 1290) a pop up message appears saying ' some PostScript specific print settings (emulsion, interpolation, calibration, encoding) will be ignored since you are printing to a non postscript printer'.
I have no idea what that means apart from more trouble from my intel mac since the programme worked perfectly well for years on my G4 imac.
The photos print but the darks come out too dark even when I increase brightness.
    Any ideas?
btw I installed PE2 until version 4 comes out for mac.
    Any help gratefully received

This message is not a "problem." You will always see
that message with any version of PS/PE when you print
to an ink jet printer. It just means that there is
some info, like emulsion, etc. that is not relevant
    to your inkjet printer.
It sounds like you need to 1. calibrate your monitor,
    2. make sure your images and your working space in PE
are the same (ie, that you are not working on sRGB
jpegs in the Adobe RGB color space), 3. Make sure
that you are not doing double color management for
printing (ie have PE set up to color manage your
printing and then telling your print driver to do the
    color management, too.)
    Thanks Barbara
I had never encountered the message on my G4 with OS9 so glad to know it's not that significant. The printer dialogue boxes I'm getting with OSX are different too & the only way I can select different papers is through 'more options' in the preview dialogue box & selecting color management. This presumably is what you said I shouldn't do! Also utilities(for checking ink status etc) doesnt appear at the top of the print dialogue box like it used to & I can only get that by going to applications/utilities printer setup page which seems a bit longwinded. My printer appears on the ok list that Epson put out about intel compatability so I'm still a bit confused about what to expect as I'm not familiar with OSX.

  • Photoshop on Intel Mac?

Can anyone share their experiences actually using Photoshop and third party plug-ins on an Intel Mac?
I need to buy a second Mac for professional use and am torn between buying Intel vs G4/G5 which of course is being phased out. I realize that all the lab tests say Photoshop runs at half speed on Intel models, but I want to hear from someone who actually uses it routinely.
Does Photoshop work predictably and reliably on Intel Macs? Is it adequately fast for less than constant use? Do the plug ins work? How about Illustrator? Any other Intel Mac user comments?
I hate to buy a discontinued G4/G5 if I don't need to, but will do that if necessary to do my work.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi, this is sort of a related issue but not one re: Photoshop, I use Nikon products, Capture 4 etc. However, since I purchased my Mac with the Intel Core, I've been told that it won't run. Fair enough, but I'm now being told by Nikon that the new Capture NX isn't going to work either. Can someone tell me why a product designed to work on OSx won't work on an Itel Mac. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to this problem...

  • PROBLEM WITH FINAL CUT 4 ON INTEL MAC

tried to install final cut version 4 on an intel macbook pro and it comes up with error message saying AGP card missing. How come my version 3 will run? Any ideas?

    Hi,
you need to have crossgrade to FCS 5.1 to run it on Intel Mac, but I think is too late to do a crossgrade - the promotion was valid up to 17 or 19 of March.
Now you can do a "standard" upgrade:

  • Intel Mac Mini and Photoshop / Illustrator CS2

What is the performance of CS2 PS & Ill like on the Dual Mini like.
I currently have a PB 1.33GHZ / 768 MB RAM and thinking about getting DC Mac Mini with 2GB RAM.
    Any reports?
    Powerbook 12 1.33GHZ   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   768 RAM

If you go to the Adobe site, you can read one of their white papers on their plans for universal versions. In short, there will NOT be a release of Photoshop CS2 as a universal binary; they're waiting for the next release (CS3?) which they hinted at 12-18 months. They also said that you will get performance degradation of Photoshop on the Intel boxes.
so, if a software vendor tells you that in writing, you can bet it will be worse than you expected, not better.
As for me, I'll keep my dual G5 PowerPC and CS2 until Adobe sees the urgency to release a universal product.

  • I finally made the move to an Intel Mac

I finally made the move to an Intel Mac. . . I bought a used Macbook Pro 15" core duo, 2.16Ghz, 2g ram, 7200rpm 500G HD. Couldn't pass it up at 600.00
OS, Leopard fresh install and I installed FCP Studio as well. Runs pretty good. I also have SHake, which I'm trying to teach myself. Certainly no state of the art, but twice as fast as my G4 desktop.
I'm going to buy FCP Studio 3 upgrade... and retire my FCPStudio (5.1.4).
    Any cautions?

    Heya,
Keep in mind that a clean install of FCS3 vs. upgrade from 5.1.4 means you will lose Live Type.app because Live Type is no longer available in FCS3 since most of the features have been integrated into Motion. If you are used to working in the Live Type interface then upgrade to FCS3 from 5.1.4 vs. performing a clean install. If you upgrade from Final Cut Studio 5.1.4 to FCS3 then you will keep Live Type and it will still launch and be useable. If you perform a clean install of FCS3 then you will lose Live Type.app in the process. If you want to keep Live Type on your new/used Intel Mac then install FCP 5.1.4 first and then perform the upgrade installation of FCS3.

  • Is Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 compatible with Mac Mini 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo

Hello, I’m using Mac Mini 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo with Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  When I try to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 I receive this error message:  “Some errors occurred during installation. Adobe  Elements 11 can be installed on 64-bit systems only.”  Here is the question: is Photoshop Elements 11 compatible with my computer and operating system? I guess my computer runs at 32-bit. Why do I receive that error message when I try to instal the Trial version of the software? I have read that Photoshop Elements 11 is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Thank you.

    On prodesigntools.com
    http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-premiere-elements-11-are-out-pse-pre.html
they say Photoshop Elements 11 running native in 32-bit:
Photoshop & Premiere Elements 11 will run well on 32-bit or 64-bit systems, and are designed for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or Mac OS v10.6 through v10.8 (see the full system requirements for PSE 11 on Windows/Mac; and PRE 11 on Windows/Mac).
Premiere Elements 11 comes with a native 64-bit version for higher performance – in other words, the PRE Editor now runs native on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.
Photoshop Elements 11 continues as before, running native in 32-bit and compatibly on 64-bit systems.

  • OS10.9.2 on an Intel Mac CS3 Photoshop says on startup 'licensing for product has stopped working.'

Using OS 10.9.2 on an Intel Mac, my CS3 Photoshop says . licensing for this product has stopped working.' I've reinstalled and attempted to use the fix in the Adobe website. However the fix will not work on an Intel Mac only a G5.

For Intel Macs running 10.7 and above, there is a python script that you copy and paste into Terminal. Have you tried it?

  • Photoshop CS (v.8.0) in Intel Mac OS 10.8 or 10.6?

I am at the moment using Photoshop CS (v. 8.0) on an old Mac G4 (PPC) with OS 10.4.11. I am about to upgrade to a new Intel-based Mac and shall be running both OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and (via an emulator) OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on it.
    I have two questions:
    1.    Will my present Photoshop CS run in OS 10.8 on an Intel Mac?
    2.    Will my present Photoshop CS run in OS 10.6 in an emulator on an Intel Mac?
I cannot afford to buy the latest Photoshop!
Many thanks in anticipation of any help or advice.

Here is a handy guide to Rosetta installation. Please go over it carefully.

My bad on CS. Your s/n will be accepted because activation was not implemented in the Mac version of Photoshop CS.
Edit: CS may well run just fine on 10.6   Give it a try.
If you download CS2 Suite, you would get Photoshop,Illustrator, and InDesign CS2...  Assuming you purchased CS or CS2 Suite.
If you only have a Photoshop license, then just get the Photoshop CS2 dmg
I'll  say no more on OS requirements. See if it works. If it works, you are in business.
