Finally got iphoto to open....

Hi,
I finally got iphoto to open. I removed my old library of 2500+ pictures to the desk top and created a new library (after five hours of trying to get it to load my old library). Now I troed to imprt pictures from my old library and it is saying that the file could not be loaded because it is an unreadable file type or that the file does not contain valid data.... now what should I do

Hi Kim,
the steps you took seem like they are right, but let's go over them again to make sure.
Close iPhoto
Drag iPhoto Library folder from the Pictures folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto and at the prompt, choose to create a new library
Name the new library
Go to File/add to library and navigate to the library on the desktop and choose it
If these were the steps you took, and it looks like they were, I am not sure why you are getting the error message.
Usually the two reasons you get this error message are:
1. You are trying to import files that are already in the iPhoto Library folder that you are currently using.
2. The files are corrupt
To check to see if the files are corrupt, navigate through that library on the desktop and double click the images you find. If they open in Preview they are fine and not corrupt. If they don't open in Preview, then they are corrupt.
Check back with your results.

  • I finally got compressor to open

well after 2 weeks and me getting everyone on here to hate me.......I finally got to export a full res quicktime dvcprohd 720p using compressor, export using quicktime straight from final cut pro was not working, I did everything you can think of to get it out. Then after my 3rd install of FCP studio 2, I was able to open compressor and export it, still wont work straight from FCP but whatever, I got it out, and whats funny is that I never mentioned it to the client she was 15 minutes away from me and I finally got it out, funny how it works......but thanks folks for your help FCP folks!!!!!!

Hey Sean, i have seen this before and you will kick yourself when i tell you the answer (i know i did).
even though you import a sequence into Compressor's batch list, to set an actual parameter to encode, you have to physically click on the original file IN Compressor's batch window.
so you import file.mov into compressor
    you CLICK on file.mov
THEN you select whatever parameter you want to use
if you want to add more than one setting, you CLICK on file.mov AGAIN and set your next setting
    FINALLY you click on submit

  • Finally got MSN to open with iChat but can't Video chat with friends??

I used psi to make a jabber account and added an MSN transport, so i can open MSN with iChat. Its pretty cool, but my biggest problem is video chat. Is it possible to video and voice chat with my friends who have a webcam and are using them on MSN on a PC? If it isn't I really regret buying two macs.=[

  • HT203167 I finally got the update of IPHOTO 11 to download, now when I try to open my IPhoto it says it needs to be prepared to work, so I install that and it says it is downloaded, but when I try to open my Iphoto it just keeps repeating that it needs to

The above question is too big to read, so this is what it says>>>>I finally got the new IPhoto 11 to download after problems with the installation; now when I open it, a message pops up that says to continue I need to prepare the old version for the new....so I downloaded the preparation download and it says it is installed, but when I go back to open IPhoto again after this installation, the same message keeps popping up! I cannot find any of my pictures either. What is going wrong and how can I continue with IPhoto and update and get my pictures again? This all has happened because I made a big book of my travels and when I went to purchase it it said I could no longer buy books using the old IPhoto 7.........so I updated everthing and bought the new version and did everything it said, but still not working:::HELP!

You have to download and run the upgrader then launch iPhoto. Go to the utilities folder in Applications and launch the iPhoto upgrader. Then launch iPhoto and it will upgrade the library

The other day I was writing an essay while listening to my iTunes. Then all of a sudden, the power of my house went out. When we finally got power back, and I was able to open up itunes, over 700 songs of mine were deleted. When I looked in the trash, I saw two things labled "iTunes library extras", and "iTunes library genius". When I tried opening them, it said that I needed to open them with an application, and that I needed to chose one. I chose iTunes. When I tried double clicking on "iTunes library extras" after this, all it did was open up iTunes. Nothing else. Someone please help me because I had a lot of songs that I liked, and recently downloaded. And it will be a pain to get them all back if no one can help me.

Are the files still physically on your HD?
[User]/Music/iTunes/Media/Music is the default location. Unless you suddenly have a bunch of new "free space" on your hard drive, they're still where they were, you just need to create a new library file.

Adobe now hides the editor - what looks like it is not - you want the editor hidden in the support folder - see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3955558#3955558 for details

  • My iphoto wont open since i updated my mac, please help? it says i need to install an iphoto library upgrader which I have installed but still cant see my photos.

my iphoto wont open since i updated my mac, please help? it says i need to install an iphoto library upgrader which I have installed but still cant see my photos.

What version of iPhoto are you using? 9.6 is the current version.
    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • IPhoto Library open in mbpluginhost

    Hi all,
Just upgraded to the new OSX Yosemite (10.10.3) and when I open iPhoto I'm getting the error 'iPhoto is open in mbpluginhost' - what does this mean??

I got the same thing.  I Googled mbpluginhost and saw that it is a start-up process.  Based upon that information, I restarted my Mac.  Once it restarted, I opened iPhoto and the message did not appear.  Hope this helps you.

  • (Big) iPhoto Library opening empty from external drive

I need help! I have a new 2014 MacBook running Yosemite, as well as an older MacBookPro. I copied my large iPhoto Library from old laptop (labeled old library "iPhoto Pics 2008-2014", or similar) onto an external drive so that I could access all my photos on this new laptop in iPhoto.  I have been holding the "option" key and then opening iPhoto & choosing this 2008-2014 Library to open, and it has been working great. All my 6 yrs worth of pictures immediately populate iPhoto just like it did on my old laptop. HOWEVER, my external drive was accidentally unplugged yesterday without properly "ejecting" it, and it gave me a warning/error message saying something like "your external drive was improperly disconnected". The next time I went to open iPhoto, choosing my 2008-2014 library, it said (something along these lines...) that I had to update the format of the library I was trying to open and it might take a few hours. I had received this message (or similar one) the 1st time I opened this library in my new laptop iPhoto app and so I said yes, for it to fix it. However, it didn't seem to do it properly this time and ended up closing itself. When I tried to open it again, it said some other errors needed to be fixed and I said yes again. Sorry, these details are a bit fuzzy about what went wrong & what messages I got...I just know something didn't seem right as my laptop wouldn't let me close iPhoto and I ended up having to do a force quit to shut down my laptop and reboot.
So now when I rebooted, and I click "option" and open iPhoto, I am able to choose my normal 2008-2014 Library, but it opens with the basic "To get started with iPhoto, do 1 of the following 3 things...", with NO PHOTOS or VIDEOS showing up at all in events, places, albums, etc. It looks just like a brand new Library. However, when I look in Finder and find my 2008-2014 iPhoto Library file, it says the size of it is 171.72 GB, which I think is large and would indicate photos are still in there? These are ALL My photos from the last 6 years. I have most of them still saved on my old laptop (everything before getting my new laptop Nov 20th), just don't have pics I've downloaded to that Library on the external drive between Nov 20th and now. Can anyone help me figure out why iPhoto is opening up an empty library when it should have 6 yrs wroth of pics in it? Did I accidentally erase all the photos in my Library on my external drive??? Thanks in advance for your help/thoughts.

Thanks guys. I did what you said and am about to choose option #4. I cannot really back up this drive before starting rebuild as I don't have a backup of this library exactly, but it is a copy of my entire iLibrary off my old laptop, which I copied over on Nov 20th, so I should have a complete copy of this Library though 11/20 date on my old laptop. I will just potentially lose any photos I've taken and downloaded to external drive since then (luckily not many or any since I haven't downloaded my SLR camera since Dec 5th, so all pics are still on my camera). One last question...is it worth doing the rebuild, or would be be safer (long term...this external library on this drive will be my primary source of ALL my 2008-2014 photos) to just copy over my original library again from my old laptop to this drive?
One additional question though...I just came back to my computer after being away from it for 30 minutes, and again got the "you improperly disconnected your external drive" message. However, my drive is still plugged in and I did not touch it!! So it is disconnecting itself somehow. Any advice on why it's doing this or how to get it to stop? Is it because my computer went to "sleep" or something? Should I not leave my external drive plugged in? Seems like a pain if that is the case as I need to access these pics on my drive often and don't want to be constantly plugging in and then ejecting my drive all the time to keep it safe.

I cannot get iPhoto to open on my Macbook Pro today. I have shut down twice - still no success. Any suggestions?

    Try deleting the com.apple.iPhoto.plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open iPhoto while holding down the command and option/alt keys and rebuild the library.
    iPhoto Library rebuild
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.5. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

I purchased a new imac (4G, OS X 10.6.8) in Feb 2011 and thought my old iPhoto library transferred over. It wasn't. And I can't get iPhoto to open on my old mac. It says, "can't open your current version of iPhoto using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto". I don't think my old mac will support the newer version of iPhoto so I feel like I'm stuck (this is why I got a new mac -- cheaper than upgrading all my software, etc). Help! I really need to get to my old photos, and no, they are not backed up anywhere. Thanks.

    You have two options:
Run the Library on a machine that has the same version as the machine that was stolen.
    or
Recover the files from this library and start over from scratch.
    To recover the files:
Go to your Pictures Folder (or whereever you have the back up) and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Your originals are in the Masters folder.
Note this will only recover your photos as imported from you camera.
    Regards
    TD

  • Finally got a little love from Capital One

I was discharged from CH7 April 2014. Since then I have gotten a car loan thru Ally for $25k and was added as an AU on a CU credit card with a CL of $1k. I tried the pre-approval think for Captial One several times and only got the "we are unable to find a match" response. Once I did a full app and reconned it and got the letter that I had too many old outstanding debt things. CO was incluced in my CH7 but there was a zero balance on it. I finally got up the nerve to try their secured and got an approval with a $49 deposit. The website said to increase my deposit to get a higher limit so I did $100 for my deposit. Figuring my limit will be $350 or so and will add an additional depsoit each month to get it to a higher limit. Not sure now if that opens the door or what for better cards they offer. My scores right now bounce all over the place depending on which formula they use so it goes anywhere from 600 to 671 depending on which company does it and which report they pull from.

People seem to really get dramatically different results, but for me, capital one has really treated me well. i spend alot (4000-7000) per month on cap one and i have gone from 1 card at 3000 to 5 cards totaling 50,000 in less than 2 years. congrats! YMMV

  • Time Machine doesn't backup iPhoto Library (if iPhoto is open)

I just wanted to alert other people to the fact that Time Machine DOES NOT backup your iPhoto Library (that is, any of your photos), if iPhoto is open when Time Machine performs the backup (which in my case, is all of the time).
I've just posted this information to my blog: http://www.pigsgourdsandwikis.com/2010/01/timemachine-is-not-backing-up-your.htm l
But the basics are that although Time Machine promises to perform automatic backups in the background, it will skip your photos if iPhoto is open. Unfortunately, it won't tell you it hasn't done the backup and you'll be lulled into a very false sense of security, broken only when you have a problem and there's no backup to be found.
So, be sure to close iPhoto when Time Machine is doing backups and check your backed up files to make sure all your photos are there.
Please spread the word. I hate to think people are losing their photos because of this.
    best,
    Liz

    Backup completed successfully.
Also, when I look on my external drive, the latest backup says it was opened on January 14, but of course, I had iPhoto open when I ran the backup (that is, it was last opened TODAY).
Now, I closed iPhoto and ran Time Machine again. I got a pretty similar message from Time Machine Buddy:
    -------Starting standard backup
Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb
    Node requires deep traversal:/Users/lizx/Pictures/Big iPhoto Library/iPhoto 7 Library current reason:kFSEDBEventFlagContainsChanges|kFSEDBEventFlagMustScanSubDirs|kFSEDBEven tFlagReasonFSEvent|kFSEDBEventFlagReasonMissedReservation|

Copied 2935 files (16.7 MB) from volume Macintosh HD.
    Starting post-backup thinning
No post-back up thinning needed: no expired backups exist
    Backup completed successfully.
If there's a significant difference there, I can't see it.
On the other hand, when I go look at the backed up file, although it still won't tell me how big it is (or I'm too impatient to wait), it does say the (backed up) iPhoto Library was last opened today. Much better.
    What do you think?
    best,
    Liz
