Finally got update to work, and battery usage even worse?

I had to do the restore last night to get the iPhone to work as before. I started out at 100% this morning. I've hardly used it at all, and 2 hours later it's down to 85%? That's worse than before the update. All I did so far this morning was update my LoseIt log, send 1 text message, and read a few email.

Every time Apple has released an update there are people who want to go back to a previous release or expect an update to fix the problem they see. But the real problem in almost all cases is not the release itself, but a problem with an individual's phone. I installed 3.1.3, and for the first two days my battery life has been measurably better. Also, based on the very few problem reports in the forums 3.1.3 has been very stable for an overwhelming number of users.
If you are having a problem first try some basic troubleshooting; it's your phone, not the release that is the problem. Reboot the phone, run the battery down all the way then fully recharge. And if neither of those fix it do a restore as a new phone, because the problem is most likely in an installed app or corrupted metadata.

i just got an ihome system and had trouble with it connecting to my iPhone.  I finally got it to work and now my itunes doesn't recognize my phone.  My software is up to date on both my Mac and my iPhone and I have shut everything down and restarted.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Downloaded OS 5 "fix" battery usage even worse I think

I travel a lot and since the first os 5 update my iphone was just cranking through power now with the "fix" it seeems even worse. This is a real problem.Anybody have any answers. I have everything (all the misc stuff) off.  We need some help here.

I have just noticed my Iphone 4S battery is draining pretty fast since Jan 19. Before this, phone might go 3 days before needing recharge. Nothing really changed other than some app updates, and I just deleted all the apps that updated. Can't figure this out. Losing 10% of battery power every hour. Anyone else got this surprise power usage?

  • 2nd replacement iPhone 4S and battery is even worse!!!

So this is the second replacement iPhone 4S I received from an apple genius.
The battery life is even worse on this one. Down 1% every 2-5 minutes?! Fully charged at 109% and during usage, it went down to 90% in 45 minutes. All of the settings that have been recommended to turn off are off and still nothing.
Here's a list of all the settings that are off
    Ping
All the location advanced settings like setting time zone
    Automatic time change
    3G/data
    Most notifications
    Etc etc
Even after doing a DFU mode restore without any back up and no syncing any apps, music, etc, still the same
You know how annoying it is to be using your phone and you constantly see your battery percentage going down every 2 minutes?!
The genius that "helped" me yesterday was useless and rude.
Honestly, if it's a software problems, then why is it only iPhone 4s out of everybody in my family? That's 4 other people with the iPhone 4S and 2 people with the iPhone 4, all on 5.0.1 yet I'm the only one with the battery issues?
Yes it is weird that both replacement iPhones that I received has horrible battery life but I don't get how I'm the only one in the family that has this problem.
I'm so annoyed and i hate the "genius" that helped me yesterday.

sounds like it could be a software issue
i understand from all your saying regarding everything  is off, brightness is down, vibrate is off,3g is off, location off,no emails set up,time change,wi-fi,,etc etc
ok ,how long did you charge up your iphone for initally for ?
let the battery die ,leave it for a few hours ,(use another mobile if you need a mobile)
recharge the iphone, when you get sum power, unplug ,check for updates,do a reset, then reconnect to charge it,when fully charged, keep all your settings off.use as per usual .
see how your battery copes then,
again do same thing with letting battery die out before recharging.
if problem continues then i would take it back to the store
    good luck

  • Finally got bullets to work, and now my background images are jacked?

This has been frustrating me all freakin' day.  I was having the worst time trying to get my bullets to work correctly, and finally assigned a div in my external CSS, and then they finally decided to work.  But now, which I believe to be some sort of padding issue, some of my background and border images are just WAAYY off like in the attached picture.
Any help with the code would be greatly appreciated, as I am still learning, and Ive managed to take a template and make it look halfway decent (from the visual side of things - Im sure the code is a complete mess).
    http://pastebin.com/Jeqkfbvb - My CSS
    http://pastebin.com/bP8w0vKj - My intro page
The bottom of the intro page looks like that when it should be flush.  I cant figure out what I jacked to fix it and I cant figure out why the bullet points/new div would even affect it in that way.
    Halp

I figured it out through trial and error.
I had not closed some div tags and they were causing my footer to be way above where it should be.
    Sorry to waste peoples time

  • I hooked up mine and finally got it to work but every once in a while my web browser get stuck.  how di fix this?

i hooked up mine airport and finally got it to work but every once in a while my web browser gets stuck.  how di fi?

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

  • Audigy 2 ZS, Vista x64: Finally got bass redirection working!

=Audigy 2 ZS, Vista x64: Finally got bass redirection working!B Hey guys,
I have hooked a Teufel Concept G to my Audigy 2 ZS. The Speakers do not have internal cross mix, so unless the sound card provides a bass signal there will be NO bass at all. This has not been a problem under linux, since it automatically configures the sound card to send out bass, but very frustrating in Windows Vista x64. GTA4 is no fun without bass ;-)
After endless searching and messing with different drivers (breaking the whole vista sound system) I coincidently got bass redirection (and CMSS2 apparently) working today.
These are the steps I took:
. Fresh install of Windows Vista x64
    2. Installation of Audigy 2 drivers provided by WindowsUpdate, did not download from Creative Labs
    3. Use an old CtPanel-App which actually could activate bass redirection and CMSS2?
    I uploaded the App:?
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L6J0ZJVA
If you start the App it will take ages until it pops up, but then it works just fine. Feedback appreciated!
    regards
    Tiedemate?

I also have the same problem, sound stop working after getting SP2, I updated vista to SP2 because I want to update to windows 7, with win 7 I have try all the drivers without success I still have no sound and with some drivers I get a blue screen. After 2 restarts windows 7 ask me to fix the problem with restore and vola everything works ok but no sound.

  • Z10 - High CPU and Battery Usage with BBM

I recently updated my Z10 (UK and EE Carrier) to 10.2.1.3062 and every day or so I am getting very high CPU and Battery Usage with BBM running in the background.
I have never used BBM and have no active or past conversations or contacts.
This morning, it used around 60% battery in under 3 hours, with 95% of that time sat at 'idle' in my pocket.
Sometimes its after I have connected it to my car stereo (charging and streaming music via USB) on an Alpine CDA-117Ri, but I dont think thats a cause.
    Some screen grabs:

Have a 27 imac desktop with mac osx 10.5.8, finally got out of grey and black screens etc. is there anything I can do to prevent all this from happening again when I shut down? Or before I shutdown? TIA.

    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • I think I finally got it to work!

I FINALLY got something new on my screen...now it says: "waiting for iPhone" and there's a little circle on the bottom of the iPhone screen that's rotating as if it's "thinking."
Whew, I hope it works now, it only took me 6 hours and hundreds of tries, LOL!
Boy, I sure am glad I shelled out $400 for this awesome phone! (sarcasm...heavy sarcasm)

Did you do anything different to get it to this point? I'm having the same problem...tried the 'solutions' noted in other postings about updating drivers as best I could, but I'm not on Vista...

  • After multiple attempts to install Itunes 11 without problems I finally got it to work

About a month ago when updating to Itunes 11, I started getting errors that would not allow me to Install the update and then when I did the program crashed when trying to open.  After multiple removing/installing all the apple software per instructions found in these communities I finally came upon a solution that worked.  After getting itunes to install but getting a error when I clicked on the icon to open Itunes, below is the steps I found on another web site that actually WORKED and was able to update to new/greatest version and Itunes actually opened correctly when I clicked the icon. HERE is what worked!!....
Highlight all of the following 10 lines of text that begin with regsvr32 and then choose Copy from the Edit menu of your web browser:
    regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll
Open the Notepad program by navigating to:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
In Notepad, choose Paste from the Edit menu. Note: make sure that the text that appears in Notepad is the same as what is shown above.
From the File menu, choose Save As.
In the File name field type appleipod.bat and save the file to the Desktop.
Close Notepad and locate the appleipod.bat file.
Double-click the file and you will see a black window appear on the screen for about a minute. Wait until the window automatically disappears and proceed to the next step.
The appleipod.bat file can be deleted at this time.
    Hope this helps!

Hi , There are two very informative Mac threads that you may want to refer to. There really is nothing that I can add to them.
I don't know if they are still on Page 1 but if not try Page 2.

  • I Finally Got mine to work!

I just got a brand new Nano and installed the latest version of itunes (7.5) and had many of the problems encountered by other users. On connecting the ipod to my computer, itunes started up ok, auto synced my ipod and then appeared to function fine. I could not however sync any new playlists or tracks from that point on as i got the message "XXXXipod could not be synced, required disc not found". i couldnt do a restore as i got the same message. i couldnt manually manage tracks, or apply any changes i wanted to make such as tell the ipod not to auto sync, or to only sync checked items as of course there was no more communication. Each time the computer told me it was syncing for 3 or 4 minutes before popping that message up. i ended snatching the ipod out in frustration and cursing myself for finally giving in to ipod and itunes. I did the 5 r's with no success. Finally i uninstalled itunes 7.5, and deleted the itunes folder in "my music". searched the internet for itunes 7.4.2.4 downloaded and installed it, and it worked. i can now tell my ipod what to do. I dont offer this as any form of fix. i simply advise this is what i did and it worked. i was not keen on altering my computers registry, or changing some of the more intricate settings as i dont know enough to undo it if it breaks something else. I did try one of the support centres tips and thats exactly what happened.
I think that itunes software is pathetic. apple have really got to get organised before doing this in future. i will wait for a version of itunes that doesnt have so many support forums dedicated to it. i am sure somebody at apple is monitoring these forums and is hanging their head in shame at the sheer volume of complaints.

I wanted to add that you could use VLC to just watch the movie, but I wanted to be able to do it all from my couch/harmony remote from within Front Row. VLC and Apple's DVD Player will play AC3 just fine without jumping through so many hoops. This is potential solution for people that want to use ripped videos w/AC3 inside of iTunes and Front Row.
I had to throw that in there to beat those people to the punch that just go to each video related posting and sing the praises of VLC. I like VLC, but it is not the answer to every situation.
To my knowledge the method created here will not make movies that are playable on an iPod or AppleTV, but would be with a few minor differences that have been covered in many other posts.

  • 10.5.6 auto update not working and how I fixed it

I ran into an issue installing 10.5.6 like many others apparently have. I'd run the auto update and it would stall at Configuring Installation with the progress bar moving maybe 1/8th of the way. I'd restart and try again with no success.
I tried verifing the disk but it found no issues.
When I tried the combo-updater it told me my hard drive didn't meet the requirements for the update.
The one thing I was missing was 10.5.5. I was still running 10.5.4. The funny part is that the auto updater didn't recognize it and kept trying to push 10.5.6 and the combo-updater didn't recongize it either.
In the end I downloaded the 10.5.5 updater from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1055comboupdate .html. After it installed I was allowed to install 10.5.6
In my opinion the autoupdater should have caught this.

I agree - that sounds like a bug to me.
You could have downloaded the combo 10.5.6 update which works with any version of Leopard from 10.5.1 up and not have bothered with 10.5.5.

  • Lumia 800 touch not working and battery question m...

I have been quite happy with my two months old Lumia 800 until recently when I accidentally dropped it on cobblestone and damaged the glass. Although the phone still worked I ordered a new combined glass, digitizer and screen from an internet supplier. The spare part was OEM and it was relatively painless to replace the old screen with the new screen. However, after replacing the screen, touch did not work and a question mark appeared over the battery icon. I searched the forum and other places on the internet and found out that this type of issue had been seen before and that it in some cases could be fixed by an upgrade of the firmware and a hard reset.
Now a few frustrated days later I am starting to think that possibly the replacement part is faulty as I have tried various firmwares, various ways to charge the battery with various types of USB chargers, but still no success. The phone simply won't respond to touch. Currently I am on firmware 1750.805.8773.12220.
Would any of you in the forum have any ideas what could possibly be wrong? Could it be a broken cable to the screen? I had similar issues with an iPhone 3GS which turned out to have a dodgy ribbon cable connecting the phone and the digitizer, but I cannot seem to find anything on the net mentioning this as a potential problem and I am wondering just how likely it is that the part is faulty, when the screen works fine and only the touch functionality is not working.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. It is very difficult to get in touch with Nokia in Denmark as their support phone is not working and the websites chat functionality seems to be off line all the time.
    Best regards,
    Anders

You shouldn't have used the phone at all after it dropped in Water.
Only Nokia Care can assess the extent of damage and tell you the repair cost. First, they should accept the device for repairs..and Second, this is certainly not covered under Warranty ..
Even if the phone is repaired with replacing a few components, not sure about the effect of the seepage on other parts which may start acting in a short span ...

  • I just recently got back from iraq and bought a iphone 4 like 4 months ago. I finally got my computer back and I hooked up my phone to the computer to sync and register my phone. I clicked on restore previous settings and now my phone has all my old stuf.

I just recently got back from Iraq like 4 months ago and I bought the new Iphone 4. I didnt have my computer with me because I was moving to a new duty station. I just got my computer yesterday and I hooked my iphone to the computer. Instead of hit set up as a new phone, I end up clicking on restore previous settings. Now all my new pictures, contact, videos, etc, are gone. I have my phone with old stuff from over a year ago. Is there a way for me to get my current stuff back. Did itunes save it somewhere and I dont know how to get it. Please help me out. Let me know if I can get it back or not.

If you restored your iPhone rather than synching it, you've lost all that data.
