Finally: iLounge review the nano tubes

Almost 2 months after the iPod nano tubes were 'launched', iLounge have put together an in depth review at Apples Official form of nano protection.

Thank you for that! Not too many people request that I play at work!
I would say it's about 90% as easy. It's completely as easy to move the wheel, but pretty darn close. Close enough that it doesn't take away from the fun of it.
The responsiveness was something I was wondering (and concerned) about as well. But, after a little getting used to, and I mean just a little...you'll adjust very quickly. Its not the exact same experience, but as close as I would ever expect.
HTH Nathan. I got lost in the game for a while!

  • Are the nano tubes in stores?

My parents are buying my sister a nano for her birthday, and I need an accessory as my present. I know it's 4-6 weeks before the nano tubes ship (like Jobs said in his keynote), but are they in Apple stores? There's a review on the online store. Does anyone know if the nano tubes are out yet? If not, what accessories for the nano are available and any suggestions?
    JC

I was told it would be a couple of weeks. There will be a mighty big pent up demand for them by then for sure.

  • : HEY APPLE: WHERE ARE THE NANO TUBES

Hey Apple, where are my tubes... why are they taking soo long!
    ***

I suspect the delay with the nano tubes and some of the other accessories is secrecy.
Apple are becoming more and more secretive about every product release and therefore the best way to protect the details of the nano was to talk to as few people about it as possible.
I suspect Apple will have discussed the potential production of a new case for a new iPod with a 3rd party supplier (manufactured for Apple), but they did not see the details of the new iPod nano until it was launched.
Apple probably did a photoshop mockup of what the nano tubes would look like, but I bet there was none in existance when the nano was introduced by Steve.
On that day, I suspect the nano tube manufacturer got the final design and details of the nano and tubes and then had to start production, etc.
    That would explain the delay.
If the information had been passed to the nano tube manufacturer say 4 weeks before the nano was released, it is a sure bet that the design and info would have been on the internet before it's release.
It's unfortunate that Apple has to work like this, but I think it will be the case in future.

  • Bring on the Nano Tubes

I say Bring on the Nano Tubes Dubble-Time..
Iv already ordered mine off the apple site (You get Free Delivery) cant wait till they get here.
    Who else has ordered theirs?

    Hi there,
do you know if the clear one really is clear or is it a kinda transparent white?
I'm waiting for my black Nano to arrive and think it would be a shame to hide in some milky looking silicone thing.
I saw a seller on ebay that offered crystal clear tubes with a colorful frame. Has anyone else seen them? If so, what do you think? I'm kinda sceptic since there's no picture if the real deal and that seller was the only one in the net (trust, I've searched) that I could find with those.

  • Does the Nano tubes reduce or prevent scratching?

Just wandering if anyone has had this, is it actually effective in reducing or preventing scratches?
Also how often does Apple usually bring out a new model? E.g. when coul we expect a 6GB nano?

Press the sleep button on the top. Hold it down if you want to completely shut down the Nano.

  • Are the Nano tubes available ANYWHERE?

I bought the white IPod Nano for my daughter locally but they don't have the tubes yet. Even the Apple store says to wait 5-6 weeks. Her birthday is on 10/2. I heard these things scratch easily. I can't believe they released the device 2 months before any of the accessories were available. Has anyone seen them anywhere, online, retail store etc?

no, unfortunately they're not...i've looked a lot of places including best buy, radio shack etc.
i've been using the iPod sock, they're colorful, they don't scratch the player and it protects it while it's in my pocket. i also purchaced the iPod nano crystal shield from decalgirl, along with the screen armor. they should arrive in a few days...this combined with the sock might work fine in a pinch.

  • Apple Finally responds to the Nano issues! NEW

Vice President of Apple, Phillip Schiller has said regarding cracked LCD's:
"This is a real but minor issue involving a vendor quality problem in a small number of units,” said Schiller. “In fact, this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the total iPod nano units that we’ve shipped. It is not a design issue.” Schiller said that if customers find they have this problem, all they have to do is contact AppleCare and their iPod will be replaced.
    And regarding scratches:
Apple said that the screens on the iPod nano are made with the same material that is found in the company’s fourth-generation iPod, which, to date, is complaint free.
“If customers are concerned about scratching we suggest they use one of the many iPod nano cases to protect their iPod.”

Well I'm happy they've responded and cleared up the matter as to whether or not the materials are different from the other 21 million iPods they've sold.. They are not. The only difference is black shows the hairline scratches much more than white.
Better yet, they've isolated the cracked LCD to a manufacturing problem for less than 1% of units shipped and are replacing the broken units.
Now, we can say goodbye to this madness and Apple can get back to selling millions and millions of these things.
    Oh yeah, get a case!

  • Nano Tubes available in the UK???

    Hi Guys,
Anyone know when I'll be able to get these? I've tried the Apple store in Bluewater, they seem a bit sketchy about the dates....
    Cheers in advance
    Rob

    Hey Robert,
If the Apple Store haven't got them yet, i doubt anywhere else will. I have been told that play.com will be getting a shipment over the weekend and will ship on monday out to those who pre-ordered (like me).
Play.com are awesome, and i have used them for years and never let me down before. Find the nano Tubes here

  • Recieved "Real" Nano Tubes

Other than being shipped ridiculously later than the nano release, the nano tubes are wonderful. I know of many instances when a buyer unnexpectantly pays for a "decoy" nano tube.
I have received all five nano tubes. They come in a black box with a plastic square than slides over the box to keep the tubes in place. The individual tube has a VERY faint apple logo and thinner material where the click wheel is situated, but it is covered. The tubes also have an indentation where the hold button is, and an opening at the bottom for the earphones and a wire connection to the computer, but the nano does not fit in the dock with the tubes on.
I was pleseantly surprised about how thin the material really is, and its do soft that I just want to hold my nano all day, really! they have unfortunately picked up SOME lint, not a whole bunch, but enough to scratch the nano if you slide it in and out of the tubes a lot.
A lot of posts have already stated this, but the 5 set of tubes do not come with a screen protector. It is also a very tight fit, took me a while to even fit it throught screen. I beg you to be very careful when squeezing your nano into a tube. It takes a considerable amount of force to squish it in there. Keep your fingers on the sides when applying pressure, don't place your fingers on the screen or body for fear of more unwanted scratches or cracks.
Pictures coming as soon as I recieve my screen protectors from cleartouch crystal. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BT4BPK/002-0005720-9180873?v=glance&n=17228 2&n=507846&s=electronics&v=glance

Good review, Jenna. I've had the Tubes for a few weeks now, but have kept the clear one on since I got it. Its amazing how snug it is. And it does make it easy to hold.
I DO recommend a screen cover also. Its the only part uncovered that could scratch, and my screen has a scratch.
I didn't seem to have as much trouble putting my nano in the Tube, but I suppose with the material I expected it to be a fairly tight squeeze. DO use the sides to put the nano up through the bottom.
The nano DOES look cooler without the protection, but its become a standard recommendation to use something to protect the nano.
The wheel is still easy to use. I would recommend the Tube to anyone, but get something to cover the screen.
    Glad you finally got yours!

  • IPod nano Tubes, in stock Tuesday.

Ive noticed all the craziness about the lack of nano Tubes.
Good news for you in the UK (or the rest of the world, but face a shipping cost).
The nano Tubes are expected in stock on October 4th from http://www.essentialipod.co.uk/product.php?xProd=1869&xSec=35>Essential iPod
Of course i will post a review if i get them next week, but if they are delayed any longer i will most likely get the zCover for iPod nano.

They dont appear to be Official Apple nano Tubes. The company looks to have used the same screen shown on nano pictures on their tubes.
Still, even though they are ''not real'' Apple nano Tubes, they look great and if they do the job then there is no need to compalin.
Emma, what did the box look like that they came in. If it looked to be an Apple branded box, they may be counterfit and not just a similar design.

  • No NANO Tubes for another 4-5 weeks?!?!

When i first looked at Apple.com few days ago, the nano Tubes were on backorder for 2 weeks, now it's 4-5 weeks, anyone knows why it's taking longer and is there a chance that the tubes may be available sooner?

    Marat,
There's a veritable plethora of reasons for the holdup. There's always a chance they will show up earlier, on time, or even later.

  • Nano Tubes - screen protector?

Does anyone happen to know if the Nano tubes will contain a screen protector? I can't tell based on the pictures that Apple has posted.

    I dont think it does, here's why. . .
This is Apple's description of the tube:
Feeling a little blue today? Maybe your mood leans on the pink side. Either way, iPod nano Tubes have you covered. Constructed from smooth, treated silicone that resists dirt and stains, they come in a set of five colors: purple, pink, blue, green and clear.
Just slip iPod nano in from the bottom or through the screen window to add a splash of flavor and deliver instant protection from scratches and bumps. You can still access the Click Wheel and hold switch, and you can even create a flashy fashion statement by wearing it around your neck with the iPod nano Lanyard Headphones.
The fact that you can slip the nano through the screen window makes me think that, no, there's no screen. I would've bought them, ugly colors and all, if it had a screen. For now I left the sticky cover that came w/the nano on and put the pod in my sock, seems to be working ok until something better comes along.

  • The ultimate protection for the nano !!!

I have the ipod shuffle with the sports case . why does apple not design a sports case like the one they make for the shuffle ? it is very cool and a great protector that never has to be opened . i bouth the nano and returned it due to the scratches , luckily i purchased it at best buy so there was no restocking fee . so i ask again why apple , no sports case ?

Yeah I know there expensive but there Apple products if you get the Nano Tubes and the lanyard you kind have a $70 sports case that doesnt protect the screen it looks like. Hey the shuffle is a different product the sports case worked for it but that protective of a case would be a little brutal for the nano and the touch wheel.

  • Nano Tubes will Protect Screen

So do the Nano tubes come with screen protectors on them or are the just a rubber covering around the system and not the screen?

The nano tubes do not protect the screen.
