Finally IOS7 on my iPhone... now recovery mode?
Seriously.... I backed up on the 19th of September... attempted to do it a couple times today, but kept getting errors.... So, just took the plunge to update to IOS7. After a few attempts and after a long time of having the gears turn, it finally went through. when it came back on it instructed me to connect via USB to iTunes and is instructing me my phone is in recovery mode... I have to put it back to factory settings...
What in the world? Okay... so I am assuming if I restore (to factory settings), then restore with my backup from the 19th, I will lose anything from September 19 to now... but will I have to once again install IOS7. It took me like 3-4 tries and each time it took about an hour to come up with it not being able to install.
Is there a way around this? I have never had any problems with an IOS upgrade.

Restoring the phone automatically installs the latest iOS. Even if you restore from backup, it won't restore the older iOS, just your data

After I downloaded iOS7 and my iPhone turned off I keep getting this message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." I dont wanna lose some stuff from my iPhone.
During a normal install of iOS 7.0.6 this does not happen but something clearly went wrong in your installation.
To fix this, connect to iTunes and restore to Factory. Hopefully your iPad will be working again and you can restore your iCloud backup during Setup. -
During recovery on iPhone 4 I got : The iPhone could not be restored. Un unknown error occurred ( 3004 ). Then - iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.Then I get error 3004 again. Latest iTunes and OS updates. I cant use the phone now. I did restart the destop,unplug the usb,...etc. Same iTune logo ,arrow and USB on the screen.THANK YOU SO MUCH,...!

Iphone 3G recovery mode; the iPhone cannot be recovered: unknow error 1604

I was recovering my iPhone 3G at iTunes after creating a back-up.
When I wanted to recover (and update to OS 3.1.3. from 3.1.2) iTunes is turning the iPhone into recovery mode, but after a few minutes the phone is keeping getting the message
the iPhone cannot be recovered: unknow error 1604
There is no futher information about this error. So now I have a non working iPhone
Please help me, what to do

TS2776 Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode
When i updated Itunes and then updated to the latest Iphone update, I get the message that Itunes has detected an Iphone in recovery mode.You must restore to connect to Apple's Itunes. I have uninstalled Itunes and all other recommended software in a the recommended order and reinstalled and I am still getting the same error message. Not sure what else to do.
OK, so I have now plugged the phone into the laptop, and opened I-Tunes. I tunes on my lap top says it has "detected a phone in restore mode" and the only option is to go back to original factory settings.
Nothing I press on the I-phone (a 4G) will move the icon, and I don't want to go back to original factory settins (do I?). Seems as if that will remove all the apps. -

You should have made sure that everything was on your computer bef ore updating anyway. Did you fail to do that?
All pics taken with iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update/restore/etc. Did you fail to do that? -

Update Sent iPhone into Recovery Mode
A friend told me about the update so I connected my iPhone to my computer and chose "Update." I got an error that ended with my phone in "Recovery Mode." iTunes recognizes it as an iPhone in recovery mode and I choose "Restore" but what seems to be most of the way through the restore I get an error saying (direct quote) "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. I also experienced the "recovery mode" issue. After distilling some of the recent posts here and related topics, here's what I found worked for me. (1) Delete iTunes 7.6 update, download and install iTunes 7.6 from Apple's website. (Good idea to back up your iTunes library just in case). (2) If you have tried several restores of the iPhone without success, navigate to //user/library and delete the several backup files there. (3) Reset your iPhone (simultaneously press home and power key until Apple logo appears). Turn iPhone off (press power key until screen blanks). (4) Plug in your iPhone and you'll hopefully see that the software and firmware is being restored. (This takes a while). After that, you'll see the message that your iPhone files are being restored, however you have them set in iTunes. One note -- though I'm not sure why, having your iPhone plugged directly into your machine's USB port rather than through a hub may prevent device polling from corrupting the iPhone restore process. This worked for me -- not sure if similar process would work on Windows boxes or not. After about an hour of messing with it, now have updated iPhone fully functional (again) with new features.

Iphone in recovery mode after software update
Hello, I have just downloaded and upgraded my software on iphone 4.
It seemed to have taken about 2-3 hours.
There was an error (which I missed) and now I have on my phone the white apple sign, on my itunes it says - "Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes.
My only option on itunes is to restore to original settings, which Im guessing I will lose all my data etc?
Does anyone know of an alternative solution?
I have held down the home and power button but no luck.

Connect your USB cable to your computer but not to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until step 3.

Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. In order to put iPhone in recovery mode, firstly leave USB cable connected to computer, but disconnect cable from the iPhone. Then turn the iPhone OFF. Next press and hold the Home button on phone.
While continuing to hold the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the iPhone. Continue to HOLD until you see the "Connect to iTunes" message on the phone's screen. iTunes should message it "has detected a device in recovery mode" -

My phone was put into recovery mode and I know that not all data is deleted it just puts the phone into a sort of hibernation in order for the files to stay uncorrupted. Check the date and time of the last backup. If it is recent you can restore it. However, if you mean you have the photos back in your Camera Roll then the backup was already restored. To get your music and apps back it should just be necessary to click "Sync".

4.2.1 update downloaded to my imac,but has put my iphone in recovery mode!!
Hi,as the title suggests yesterday I downloaded update 4.2 to my imac and when it finished downloading I got the message,"itunes detects an iphone in recovery mode.You must restore the iphone to be compatible with itunes." So I clicked on the restore icon and after a couple of minutes I get the same message about being in recovery mode.
I've been on the support site but nothing,checked out a couple other sites aswell,downloaded Recboot,iRecovery,tried on another computer to restore,but nothing is happening.
Love my apple products,but so p#####d off that when something goes wrong it's a nightmare.

I had a similar problem. Went to update from 4.1 to 4.2(.1) and every time it failed and left my iPhone stuck in recovery mode. Usually it failed with the error 1013 or 1004 - which according to Apple are hardware issues. THEY ARE NOT.
There is a simple fix for this: If you are on a windows PC:
goto:
C:\windows\system32\drivers\ect\
and if there is a file called: hosts.umbrella (or something very similar) then delete it.
There should also be a file called: hosts (or something very similar) - Open that with your favorite text editor and remove any line which has: apple.com
Then save the file, restart your PC and begin the update again, all should work fine.
