Finally left BT... now what happens??

Today I managed to get my Virginmedia services installed at my home. I now have an ultra speedy 50meg connection and am now more than happy. I have had my number ported to VM and now the BT phone line will not make calls (although i have a dial tone) so i am assuming my line had now been cancelled.
What i would like to know is when will the Broadband on the BT line go off as at the moment it is still up and running. I was told that i did not need to give BT any notice of cancellation as it would all go dead as soon as my number was ported to Virgin.
Is this something that will just happen in due course or will i have to deal with the wonderful BT helpline to make sure i will no longer be billed for the service??

  • Lack of options in iCloud control panel compared to MobileMe Control panel, so now what happens if there is a conflict of data (Cloud vs  Computer)?

    Back then when we were syncing with MobileME, the control panel allows us to decide what to do when there is a conflit of data in the cloud vs the information on our computer.  We were given the option of Replacing information in Me with information on the computer or vice versa, but now we do not have any of these options.  And currently when i sync my computer with icloud, i dont know if the information (Contacts, Bookmarks) will be replaced with the current informaiton on the iCloud (transfered from MobileMe) or they will merge (if they merge then i would have double of contacts,bookmarks??) or the information in the iCloud would be replaced?
    If we had more options in the control panel of iCloud, then things can be simplier.  However, with the current iCloud control panel, we have no way of knowing what happens when there is a conflict and we won't know what action the iCloud would take for the conflict of information.
    So currently i still dont know if my Favourites (Bookmarks) will be replaced or not.
    Does anyone know if we can wipe out the info on iCloud and replace it with the data (Contacts, bookmark, calendars etc) on our computer?

    This is what I did...not ideal but seems to work for right now till iCloud actually syncs contacts into Outlook 2010 (PC/Win 7) like Mobile Me used to.  I opened the contacts in the iCloud contact address boxes in Outlook.  I selected all contacts by selecting one and then Ctrl-A (selects all), then Ctrl-C (copies all).  Then I went into the Outlook Contact folder which is blank from iCloud "stealing" all my contacts and in that empty box I hit Ctrl-V to past all contacts in.  I am now able to use my contacts when emailing in Outlook.
    Of course, any changes I make to my iPhone contact list or via iCloud will only sync back to the iCloud contacts lists in Outlook (and not Outlook's main calendar) so occassionally I'm thinking I'll need to go back and do this all again either figuring out a way to only copy new contacts over, or going into Outlook Contacts and deleting all of those, going back to Outlook iCloud contacts (which are syncing but not communicating with other aspects of Outlook like mail) and then do the process all over (select all, copy, paste).
    Seems silly that contacts can't work the same as they did with Mobile Me but it seems like Apple has a tendancy with everything but their actual iDevices to be screwy when things are working and make things more complicated.  I was not looking towards this day as I knew there would be some stupid issue as it seems like it always is that way with their new software rollouts.  In fact, I use Outlook 2010 through Parrells still cause their Mac version still won't sync even calendars...at least iCloud is still doing that with Outlook 2010 Windows...though still the same issue as Mobile Me that it doesn't sync with the main calendar...but I can still use it and sync well to the iPhone.

    In computer terms, memory refers to RAM. How much RAM do you have? You have sufficient free/available space on your hard drive.
    Do you have the retail version of Panther (black with silver X CDs)?
    How did you back up your files? Did you use an application? Is OS 9.2.2 installed on the same hard drive as OS X? If you cloned the drive, your OS 9 files/system will also be on your backup. Are OS 9 & OS X on the same hard drive, or separate partitions?
    Some Macs with OS 9 & OS X installed can boot to either system. Also, when you are booted into OS X, if you open an OS 9 application, that's what is known as operation in "classic" mode.
    You shouldn't lose any files if you use the Archive & Install method to install Panther. However, you may find that some Jaguar applications may not open. So you may have to download a newer version or an update to your current version.
    Firefox shouldn't be affected. Don't know about AOL.
    After you install the basic 10.3 Panther, you'll need to update to 10.3.9 using Apple's free update at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2464

  • I think my mifi jetpack was stolen from my doorstep. now what happens?

    The fed ex tracking page says that it was left on the front door step at 11am today. But no one has seen it. No authorization or signature was required and I don't remember being given that option. I'm on the $7/m protection plan and I was being shipped an upgrade device because my old device broke, so I'm covered under the plan. I was told in the store that I have to return my old mifi jetpack very soon or else I'm charged ~$200. So what do I do? It's not business hours currently so I can't call anyone.

  • Finally got order now what???

    Ok, I was finally able to get more order in for the iPhone 3Gs, (had to pay $499). But am now wondering how the process will work? When it arrives, do I need to just swap out the sim card and plug it into iTunes, or do I need to take it into an ATT store? Also, on my invoice it claims "special order" and it lists "no voice plan". I am hoping that this isn't so, and that it will just take over my other plan.

    I have the same thing - the "no voice plan" just means that you didn't purchase a new line or plan, and that the phone is an upgrade of an existing phone under contract. You don't swap the SIMs - they are tied to the IMIE of the phone. I've never done it, but activating the new phone in iTunes should replace it in your plan with AT&T. I would contact AT&T first to be sure.

    Ok I admit, I did not look too much into the whys and wherefors of itunes match before I signed up for it. I did not give it a great deal of thought, so I have everything that is coming to me.
    I have successfully matched my 3000 or so songs and they are all in the cloud.
    Now I am resident in the UK and I am about to go on holiday, to Italy skiing next week. Now that all my library is in the cloud I take it that I will not be able to listen to music whilst on the plane (as I will have the AIRPLANE MODE selected) or also whilst abroad unless I wish to pay through the nose for ridiculous data charges? is this correct?
    Does this mean that I cant actually listen to my music when on holiday unless I want to pay some Italian telco an horrendous amount of money to down load the data from the cloud to allow me to enjoy my music which I have already bought and paid for in the first instance?
    I guess they are at least all successfully backed up, but they were anyway as they were on my mac at home and backed up via my Time Machine...
    Guess I wont be renewing the sub when it is due next year. Hmmm.....I didnt think it through did I?
    OR... do I have it wrong all this cloud stuff?
    Perhaps its not just me that didn't actually think it through...begs the question if Apple actually did?

    Thanks All, yes I think I will have to do something like the above to listen to my music. I think match is not for me, in the UK when we travel abroad the data charges are eyewateringly expensive. No way am I going to pay to listen to my own music. Hopefully most people will actually do some research into iTunes match before they decide if its for them or not. It most certainly is not for me as far as I can see, there actually seems practically no tangible benefit to having it other than I guess my music is available in all my ios devices...but...it was already anyway....hmmmm....oh well you live and learn. Hopefully Apple Gods will make it more worthwhile for me to keep my sub next year.

    Device Sync Query - IOS Photos & iCloud Photo Library fills ipad iphone storage - what happens next?
    Quick question, when you select IOS Photo / IiCloud storage (photos are optimised etc) what happens when ipad / iphone storage is full and you now need to add new apps, photos etc?  In my case I have  3 * 64gb ipads & 2 * 128 gb iphone but these are all filling up with photos since enabling IOS Photo &  iCloud Photo Library (as all of my photos on each device are now copbined on every device as well as the cloud).  This has become a problem as when I try to sync my idevice I get the device full warning (and I am assuming I now need to delete apps / videos if I want to sync or make more space for new photos etc). As far as I can tell once you enable IOS Photos and iCloud all photos will upload at original resolution and download at idevice resolution and there is no way to select / control the photos you want to keep on phone  (eg if you delete photo on phone it will now delete the original on cloud).
    Couple of questions / Suggestions:
    - Will IOS Photos on IOS device  automatically lower resolution of pics or use thumbnails for old photos that are already in icloud to ensure that there is space on device for new photos,  apps videos music etc. Eg will old photos that have already been uploaded in icloud be replaced by new apps videos music etc (not sure that the IOS Sync or iCloud currently does this)
    - Is there away to limit control or limit the number of IOS photos that sync to each idevice (eg by starring photos)? I had a look and can not see away to select photos you want to keep or remove (without deleting them on cloud).  As per above I am hoping that the IOS sync and icloud systems are smart enough to replace Photos that have already upgraded to cloud with a lower quality / thumbnail to make more more room for new photos and apps (but not clear if this occurs)
    - If this is a problem now what happens once the new PHOTOS launches for OS Desktop eg will it add in all our photos from iphoto to the icloud then to the idevice as part of the OS PHOTOS UPGRADE. I have 15-30 gb of photos in IPHOTO that are now backing up to icloud, there needs to be away to only select starred photos or albums or every photo try to download to my iphone (which will kill my storage). There also needs to be away to keep photos on idevice (for those times when you do not have internet and can not download from iCloud to iDevice
    Apologies if I have missed something obvious and welcome any thoughts & answers.
    If there is no solution then Apple needs to look at this and highlight it as a risk to customers who switch as this is being sold as a way to minimise your device storage but can lead to to customers using up more  storage for photos on ipad iphone as a result of switch to IOS PHOTOS &
    iCloud Photo Library

    Things are not as dire as they might seem at first glance. My 66GB iPhoto Library became a 40GB iCloud Photo Library (~11K photos, ~300 videos) and only uses 2.2GB on my iPad and 2.4GB on my iPhone. Scaling that experience, a 64GB/128GB iOS device should be able to easily handle a 300GB iPhoto library. My iPad and iPhone are 32GB devices and I expect them to be livable through at least 30-40K of photos.
    16GB devices have always been problematic for space even before iCloud Photo Library so I'd expect anybody with a 16GB device and more than a few thousand photos is not going to be able to use iCloud Photo Library with it. They will have to use iCloud Photo Streaming to get photos to iCloud Photo Library and iCloud Photo Sharing or iTunes syncing to get a subset of photos back to the device. Not a great solution but workable. However, it wrecks one of the best features for me which is using my iPad to edit the photos I take on my iPhone.
    The part that worries me is the automatic space management routine. The problem it creates is that I might want to add a movie, but there won't be enough space, and my only option will be to reset iCloud Photo Library on the device to get back to all thumbnails on it to see if that gets me the space I need. I've already had to do it a couple of times with iTunes Match and it's not fun. It all depends on how aggressive Photo Library will be in trimming off full-size photos/videos and Apple appears to be leaving it a black box at this point. It would at least be nice to know an estimate of the minimum size so I know how much space I can recapture.

    What Happened?
    No way for us to know.  But if your system was crashing, there definitely was a problem.  The FCE error message you got normally indicates the FCE project file has been corrupted.  This probably happened due to whatever caused your system to crash & shutting down the system.
    First, make sure your system is running correctly.  Then, use the Finder to navigate to /users/yourusername/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Autosave Vault and find the most recent backup copy of your FCE project file.  Copy the file to your Final Cut Express Documents folder (copy the file, don't just move it).  Then double-click the copy to open it in FCE.  It should open ok, but will probably not have your most recent edits (transitions).  You may have to rebuild the transitions, but at least you will be back in action.

    For video, the codec is MPEG-4 Video (XVID) and for audio it says MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga).
    There are two issues with that file:
    The first is the Xvid CODEC (not meant for editing), and then the MPEG Audio/MPGA. I would convert that file, to something that is more editable.
