Yes, yes, yes... I've gone through all the common sense trouble shoots. Would't be here asking questions if that answers existed on the net. Tried updating to the new IOS and now the phone won't work, suggestions?

I tried to update the newer version of IOS on my Iphone 4S. After the update an Itunes icon and the adapter appeared on my screen.
I tried restoring the phone but it erased all of my data and now I can only take calls. I can no longer make calls and or send or receive text.
Any suggestions, or should I just take it to an Apple Store?
Any and all suggestions are welcome.

That picture is trying to tell you that there is a problem and you must connect it to your computer and restore with iTunes to fix it.

Sorry. There's nothing anyone can do. The current version of the facebook app will not run on 4.2.1. The iPhone 3G won't run anything higher than 4.2.1. You're stuck.
Maybe it's time to buy yourself a new iPod Touch.

You have to download the individual youtube app now. It is no longer a nataive ios app from apple in ios6

This may sound crazy, but download any free app. This often "shocks" the other apps into working.

After restoring my iphone 5 though itunes after updating to the new ios and setting it up as an existing iphone, i unlock my iphone and it tells me i have to connect it to itunes and set it up again but it just stays stuck saying connected to itunes

i just updated to the new ios version, and now i cant set my phone up as an existing one. i have put it in recovery mode and tried to restore it but it wont work. Itunes will let me set it up as an existing phone and back up all my data but once i unlock my phone it goes through the setting up options and then asks me to either set up as a new or existing phone and when i choose existing it just says connect to itunes and does nothing. can anyody help?

Seems like you are restoring from a blank back up if it is still asking you those 3 options of set up as new, restore from itunes or icloud back up. Set the iPhone up as new then manually restore from a back up. Follow the steps foriTunes 10.7 or earlier in the article below as it is the same process for iTunes 11:

When you do this you will be able to check for backs showing date and time. Be sure to choose a back up made before you restored to factory settings.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...
