Financial Reporting and substitution variable

Hello,
i have a problem with FR and substitution variable. I create the substitution variable in Essbase for example antYear but i dont'see in dimension layout in FR studio and workspace.

You'll need to restart FR studio, after you have created the substitution variables. As the studio only performs one read of the sub var database on startup.
It also won't show up unless you assign a member to it.

Financial reporting and balance carry forward at Line item level

Hello
We are in the process of implementing a new GL and using it to create Balance Sheet and P&L statements in BW.
We have installed the new datasource for GL line items 0FI_GL_14 and loaded the data to a DSO. Installed the 0FI_GL_10 (totals infosource) as well.
Also we created a custom infocube on the line items DSO and want to use it to report against a Financial Statement Version. In order to do that we created a
virtual cube with the FM and added the necessary Financial Statement Item and other key figures in the virtual infocube.
Now I want to know is it the correct way to create financial reports?
Can we load totals and Line items to the same infocube? Do we have to load totals to a different DSO/Cube or same Cube?
How do we address the Balance Carry Forward on the Line items cube? Since the balance carry forward is done on totals only, and the cube I created is a detailed cube is it possible to carry forward balances at that level?
Also can someone let me know what is the best approach to create financial reports and give drill down capability at the document level?

Yes.. SAP has delivered C10 for Totals and O14 for line items... No point in creating cube for line items i.e. on top of O14.
Balance carry forward can be done on totals only (that is how totals extractor _10 is designed), U can not do that on the Line items. Pls contact functional consultant for clarification
Best approach is RRI (Jump targets) for _10 report to _14 report to give drill down capability at the document level.

Can anyone give me a checklist for installation of Financial reporting and web analysis. The checlist should contain the points/information that the installed FR and WA is proper or not. Please let me know if this this is the correct forum for reporting doubts, if not then plz guide me to the correct oracle forum.

Weblogic preventing financial reporting and RAF from being accessed

Hi all,
11.1.2.1 (linux)
Web logic has financial reporting and RAF in ADMIN mode which is preventing them beign accessed. All other components are fine. The web server config step succeeded and both products were listed as being configured. I logged into the weblogic admin console and saw all products had a status if RUNNING except for FR and RAF. I tried shutting them down by force and starting them but it restarts, after a minute or so, in ADMIN mode. I have checked the startup mode and it is set to RUNNING.
I have checked the weblogic logs and I can't see any indication of the cause.
Has anyone experienced this?

Install Financial Reporting and Analysis

Hi All,
I have a Classic Planning Application on EPM 11.1.1.1.0
I have hyperion installed in a distributed env..(on three boxes..one running windows xp(machine 1), two running windows server 2003(machine 2 and machine 3.)
Machine 2 has ...Essbase Server and Oracle.
Machine 3 has ...Hyperion Planning,Workspace.
Machine 1 has ...EPMA and Calc Mgr.
Now i need to install Financial Reporting and analysis..
Can somebody please guide me as to which box should i go about installing it..?

Financial Reports and Attribute Dims

Hi,
Is it possible to include Attributes in a Financial Report and subtotal by the particular Attribute by employee? For Example:
Column Definition has Account = Insurance Cost with a scenario version etc.....

Where Column 2 'Type' is an attribute assigned to the Employee in Column 1. Also what if column 2 was a 'SmartList' in Accounts dimension instead? Right now outline is a Smart List however getting it to Subtotal is impossible I think as the SmartList is an Account named 'Plan Type' thus it has t be in columns as the report has Account = Insurance Cost in the column definition too.....

In answer to your first question yes it is possibe to report a dimension by its associated attribute. You will need to drag the attribute dimension and the employee dimension onto the rows for the grid. You may want to play around with whether the attribute dimension comes before or after the employee dimension to see whether there is a noticeable performance difference.
If I am reading your post correctly you currently want to have:
Column1 - Employee
Column2 - Attribute / SmartList
Column3 - Account (Insurance) > Jan
Column4 - Account (Insurance) > Feb
Column5 - Account (Insurance) > Mar
Column6 - Account (Insurance) > Q1
This will work fine for an attribute but if you want Column 2 to be a smartlist then you would have to put your account dimension into columns and that would mean that your smartlist would have to appear in only 1 period, i.e. if it changes from Jan to Feb then you would need more than one column to report it. It will also be harder to get a subtotal using a smartlist, with an attribute the subtotal will naturally be available by selecting the top member of the Employee dimension with your attribute (it will dynamically sum all members with the attribute you are calling).

Issue with rule file and Substitution variable

Hi All,
I am using Essbase 9.3.3
I created a rule file with 5 dimensions in which 3 dimensions I defined in columns and two dimensions I gave it as header in data column with comma seperated.
Among those two dimension members, one is an account member with "/" in it within quotes and other is a substitution variable.
The member assigned for that Substitution variable has a space in between and is updated within quotes in variables list.
When I try loading data, I am getting an error saying that two members are not valid.
Eg: "Tax/Unit",&Scenario is not valid.
&Scenario - "Budget Q1"
Can some one please suggest on the issue.
I am not facing any problem in calc scripts or reports scripts using the substition variable.

Modifying the default files is dangerous and ill advised. You could always just add a style sheet (inline or linked) to your application that overrides that one setting while you wait on the permanent fix.

Refresh FR report when Substitution Variable change

Hi All,
Is there any way to refresh FR report which are opened through smart view/ workspace when the Substitution Variable changed. Like if my report opened for the Year = Curryear and now curryear value is FY14 if I changed curryear as FY15 will it reflect on my FR report that already opened.

For sure it won't be updated automatically if the report is open. Did you try changing it and then see what happens?
You'll have to refresh the report for the subvar to show up on the report.
P.S remember to stop and start your Essbase application after the subvar change

How to get prompt value in Financial Reporting and use it as header

Hi Oracle Gurus,
I have Hyperion Financial Reporting 11.1.1.3. I created a report.
I have Products dimension on rows. And I also have prompt for Products.
Let's say there is 3 products, Product A, B, and C, with each has its own level 0 item (for example A1, A2, B1, C1)
Currently in my situation, user will be prompted to select a list of Products, and then the report will display only the level 0 of the product chosen by the user. For example, user select Product A, then the report (or the grid) will display A1 and A2 on rows. User select Product B, B1 will be displayed.
My question is, I want to create a dynamic header report, so how can I get this prompt value and use it as a report header? For example: Sales of Product A when user choose Product A, or Sales of Product B when user choose Product B.

Here is the possible way to achieve it:
1. Insert a row (may be as row 1) in the report which has product as "User prompt".
2. mark this row as hidden always
3. User other rows as level0 of product in row 1
4. Use MEMBERALIAS in your header to use product as dimension & row as row1

Child reports and bind variables

I'm working on a user defined parent/child report. What I'm having an issue with is using a parents bind variable value in a child. To simpify my example:
The master query is:
select count(*), document
from download_audit
where activity_date > sysdate-:DAYS
group by document
which returns a count of downloads for each document in the last :DAYS days. I want the child report to then list the person that downloaded a selected document:
select document, user_id, activity_date from download_audit
where activity_date > sysdate - :DAYS
and document=:DOCUMENT
This does not work because the initial :DAYS bind isn't sent to the child.
If I add the :DAYS as a selected column to the master sql it works. e.g.
select count(*), document, :DAYS days
from download_audit
where activity_date > sysdate-:DAYS
group by document
My question is, do child bind variables all have to be selected columns in the master query or is there a way to have a "global" bind variable that gets carried from master to child?
I'm using SQL Developer 3.2.20.09 on OS X Lion

Financial Reports and Essbase Dimenisons

Hi,
I am new to Hyperion. We are working on static reports using Financial Reports. Currently we have 122 static reports.
But now the application requires adding new dimension to the Essbase schema. Will adding new dimensions affect all the existing reports? I mean will it require to redevelop all the reports? It will be a great amount of work and downtime will affect our production.

affect all the existing reports?I don't use the Hyperion Reports product but have used Essbase for about 12 years. Anytime you add a dimension to an Essbase database, you will have work to do on the reporting side as Essbase essentially stores data at the 'intersection' of a member from each dimension in the database. At the least, you will have to add the dimension member to the report.
There is, however, one exception to the rule and that is if the dimension you add is an 'attribute' dimension. Attribute dimensions are treated as 'optional' dimensions for reporting and thus, if the dimension you added is an attribute dimension, you should not have to modify your reports.

Financial Reporting and Microsoft OLAP - issues with MDX

We have installed Oracle/Hyperion Financial Reporting 11 for a client. They are using a Microsoft Analysis Services 2000 'cube' as the data source. The cube has an Account Dimension with 9 levels in its hierarchy. We have found Financial Reporting truncates the MDX when querying Accounts at the lowest level (around 100 characters in the length of the MDX string) or when querying multiple account groups at a higher level (and displaying descendants). Does anyone have any workarounds or solutions? Is there a better way of doing things? Is there any documentaion on the limitations of using FR over MSOLAP? We have have built the cube with an Account No as the Short Name (Key) and the Account Description as the Name but FR insists on only displaying (and using in the MDX) the long Account Descriiption - whereas using Essabase you can drill down on the Member Names [Account No] but display the Alias [Account Name]

Financial Reports and Transaction Code Selection Criteria

When running a financial report, e.g. Trial Balance, it is possible to filter the results by Transaction Code. by clicking on the Expanded button
So, when the Expanded button is selected, and values are selected in the Trans Code drop-down boxes, the report is run for a specific (range of) Transaction Codes.
When the Expanded button is selected, but no values are selected in the Trans Code drop-down boxes, the report is run for ALL transaction codes
This is exactly the same result as not selecting the Expanded button and seems totally pointless !
The reports should work such that if the Expanded button is selected and no values are selected in the Trans Code drop-down boxes, the report is run for Journals which have no Transaction Code.
At present, there is NO option to run a financial report for journals which have no Transaction Code, yet there are TWO options to run a report for all Transaction Codes

Thanks, Andy. My problem was that I was thinking that if a dimension was placed in a Column (which is what I needed), it couldn't also be in the POV. Well, I guess that is true, but if you put it in the Column (in this case Month) the user will still be able to change it using the POV.
So, I put Month in the column and for subsequent columns I used the "Relative Member" selection type to navigate up or down the hierarchy to select the appropriate member I needed.

Are both of these internally treated in the same way by the Oracle database?
for example a defined variable
DEFINE p_grade = a
and if I use a substitution variable p_grade

What you're calling a "defined variable" is nothing but a substitution variable.
DEFINE p_grade = ais just one way of setting the value of the substitution variable p_grade.
When you later use that variable, for example
WHERE job_id = &p_gradethere is no way of telling how p_grade got its value (if it has one).
Avoid using the same name for two different types of variables.
For example:
DECLARE
    p_grade VARCHAR2(10);   -- Local variable declared
    v_name VARCHAR2(10);
BEGIN
    SELECT last_name
    INTO    v_name
    FROM    employees
    WHERE   job_id = &p_grade;    -- Substitution variable used
END;In the second line, you are creating a local VARCHAR2 variable called p_grade that is never used. It has nothing to do with the substitution variable p_grade (unless the value of that substitution variable happens to be p_grade,
DEFINE p_grade = p_grade)
If you do use the same name for differnt types of variables, SQL*Plus may keep them straight, but no one else (including you) will.
