Financial Reporting Charts and Legend in horizontal row

Hi all,
In the knowledge browser there is a "how to" enchancement on how to show legend in one horizontal row ([ID 794882.1]).
In a few words, the solution was to edit the resulting XML file (*.des) as follows:
A. Search for the string "OTHERPROPERTIES" with no quotes.
B. Make the following change: OTHERPROPERTIES="LegendLayout=(HORIZONTAL,BOTTOM,,,,)"
However, now our need is to have charts with decimals which requires to open the *.DES file in a text editor and add the following parameter after OBJECT_WIDTH: OTHERPROPERTIES="LeftFormat=(FLOAT, '%8.1f')"
My question is how to have both Otherproperties expressions in one chart. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me how to have both Otherproperties in one chart since I don't have a lot of experience in XML.

I'm using the current JRC (Java Reporting Component) to display a chart on a web page (using CrystalReportViewer).The chart markers are of one shape but many colors. The legend shows MANY DIFFERENT shapes (and many colors).When I display the chart using Crystal designer, but the chart and legend stick to a single shape.Is there a way around this, or is it simply a bug in the current JRC?

Forgot to mention: lag only applies to displaying JPanel containing graphs. Displaying "welcome" JPanel, which contains only a JLabel, is almost instantaneous.

Top 10 chart and legend problem

Hello,
I am using CR for Visual Studio 2005.I create a top 10 chart with a legend. The chart is in the group header 1b section and I'm using the underlay option so that the chart is to the right of the detail records.
The chart and legend have 2 problems:
1. The chart displays entries that are not in the detail records. The top 2 pie slices are for amounts not in the detail records or in the legend
2. The percents in the legend are not correct.The first 3 entries in the legend are:
$5,879.70 18.1%$5,219.55 16.1%$10,886.79 11.2%I would think that the $10K amount would have the largest percent and the $5879 nbr would have the lower percent.I've looked every place that I can think of to find out what is causing this, but I'm not having any luck.I also tried putting the chart in the group footer section, but the results are the same.I've also noticed this in CR XI. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a bug.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

I've still been trying to get this to work or at least figure out what I'm doig wrong, but so far I haven't had any luck, so I'm hoping someone can help me.

Financial Report chart migration

Hello Gurus,
I have migrated Financial reports/charts, etc from one environment to another.
Everything is good but one.
When I try to open this chart in workspace, it does not show anything.
Everything else is working fine.
Is there anything I am missing here.

Financial Reporting Chart Legend

I want to create some chart in Financial Reporting Studio. I was wondering if have any idea of how to present the legend of a chart in Financial Reporting in a line instead of a column that it is the default.

However, my goal is to change the layout of the legend and not the placement of the legend.
In other words, my goal is to place the members of the legend in one line under the chart, the one member should be next to the other and not under the other as it is by default.
Example:
Default legend:
Net Interest Income
Revenue
Expenses
My goal:
Net Interest Income Revenue Expenses

Financial Reporting Chart - Waterfall or Step Chart or 2 Y-Axis chart?

Using Hyperion Financial Reports 9.3.1.2 - How do you create a waterfall or step chart using a stacked bar chart in FR chart?
I have created a waterfall or step chart as a stacked bar chart in Excel which shows the Budget figure on the left and the Actual figure on the right, and between them a series of bar columns which show the variance by component (normally departments or salaries, overheads etc.)
I can do all the calculations in a grid rady for the chart, but I have a snag in how to assign the data ranges to different Y-axes in Hyperion FR chart wizard.(I can do it in Excel, but don't know how in FR and can't find sufficient clues in the documentation, online help or Metalink3)
Does Anyone have any suggestions that I could try .... please!

POV in Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio and Workspace

Hi!
I have the following problem.
I create a report in Hyperion FinReporting Studio, choose required members in POV. Save report.
Then I open it in Workspace and sometimes my chosen POV crushed: sometimes there are no chosen members, sometimes there is a free space.
How can I fix it? (It's not acceptable to choose POV as a prompt all time). Is it a bug?

Hi Natallia,
well first there are two type of POV in Hyperion financial reporting.
1. User POV
2. Grid POV
If you are never getting the USER POV in workspace then it may be that "Preview User Point of View" is off.
Just check it under FIle-->Preferences-->Financial Reporting in workspace.
If you want some default selection in your reports all the time, you should use Grid POV instead of USer POV.

Copy Chart and Legend Together

Hi,
Just tinkering with Numbers. Can anyone advise how to copy a chart and its legend to a new app? I am copying a chart in numbers but when I paste it into Mail the chart-legend is not pasted. I have tried using Cmd to select both objects but no joy.

Question asked and responded several times.
Here is my own response updated :
Select the chart and its legend.
Group the objects.
Copy the group in a Pages document, export this document as RTF.
Control click the .rtfd file which will be created.
Select "Show Package Contents".
You will see the content of the doc. One file is a PDF containing the chart with its legend.
Some times ago, I wrote an AppleScript automating the process.

Financial Reporting Studio and Windows 7

Anyone running Financial Reporting Studio 9.3.1 or a similar version on Windows 7? When I try to open a report I'm receiving an error: "Error connecting to database connection <database name>.

The user (myself) does have access to the database since I can access from an XP and/ or 2003 server machine. I think it's related to Windows 7.

Can you pls. let me know what are the major differences between Hyperion Financial Reports and Hyperion Web Analysis ? For Planning application we generally use Financial Reports right ? Can't we use Hyperion Web Analysis ? What are the advantages & disadvantages of both FR & Web Analysis tools

I'm using FR extensively now and used Web Analysis before. We use FR for Good formatted Reports, where as Web Analysis we use for adhoc Reporting Purpose. users can do slicing/dicing, Drill down/up in Web Analysis Reports, where as this feature is not available completely in FR
We use FR for Planning right ? What is the main advantage of using FR over Planning ? I belive with Web Analysis over Planning may cause performance issues

Financial Reports - chart formatting questions

1) Is it possible to display the legend label names horizontally? The default lists them vertically and I don't see an option to change this.
2) Is it possible to display axis numeric data labels with a decimal place?
3) Is there any way to have axis start at minimum value of data (as in Excel) vs. 0?
4) If data for a given month is 0, the line chart datapoint drops down to the bottom of the chart...is there any way to have it just cut off instead of showing the drop (tried putting a blank space in suppression labels but this did not work...)

We are at version 9.3.1:
We have a solution that involves editing the Report export file (.DES extension, the file is in XML format) – in other words a File > Export of the report and open the file in a text editor. The change essentially hard codes the number of decimal places in the chart legend. Since it looks like we have both Ratios (Gross margin %) and Financial Accounts (Gross margin) that could appear in the Chart, we probably don’t want two decimal places for all charts, the solution I added is for one decimal place only.
To make the edit:
1. open the DES file in a text editor. Search on <CHARTOBJECT , this should take you to the CHARTOBJECT section.
2. then search on OBJECT_WIDTH. There are OBJECT_WIDTH parameters for objects other than charts, that is why we start at the Chart section first.
3. Add the following parameter after OBJECT_WIDTH: OTHERPROPERTIES="LeftFormat=(FLOAT, '%8.1f')"
4. There should be a space before the parameter, separating it from OBJECT_WIDTH, and a space after it separating it from the following parameter.
5. Note: the %8.1f is surrounded by single quotes.
6. Repeat the process for all other charts, search for the next <CHARTOBJECT and so on.
To have 2 fixed decimal places, use the following: OTHERPROPERTIES="LeftFormat=(FLOAT, '%f')"

i'm creating a bar chart, stacking bars. i'm using financial repoting 9.3.0.502.
first data set is fine but for second data set the stacked bar value is not correct. its sum'g the first/below bar value. and if the angle the " show data points" , its not working.
Please let me know, if there is any otherway.

Copying Charts and Legends from Numbers

Is there any way to overlay the legend with the chart when copied from numbers? I am struggling with this. I always do it in office, but have decided to give iWork a try because office is so slow.

Financial Reporting - HFM and Parent/Child formatting

I have a report that has many rows, each with the same logic: Children of Account(Inclusive).
I would like to have the parent formatted differently than the children (ie lines to show that it is a subtotal). Is this possible?
I can remove the inclusive part and then add an Auto Calculation Total to each row and then hardcode the Auto Calculation Heading, but am looking for a more dynamic approach.

I use 2 rows to accomplish this.
Children[Account] - this is not inclusive
Sum([1])
I use a Custom Heading for the summary row. This method allows you to put the sub total at the bottom and format as needed.
