Definition
Account assignment characteristic that sorts operating expenses according to functions, for example:
Production
Administration
Sales
Research and development
Use
If you want to use cost of sales accounting, you have to use functional areas to sort your operating expenses.
You define your functional areas in Customizing under Financial Accounting ® Financial Accounting Global Settings ® Company code® Cost of Sales Accounting ® Define Functional Area.
Use
You can enter the functional area in the master data of the following objects:
G/L account
Cost element
Cost center
Orders
Order type
Internal orders
Sales order for make-to-order production and requirements class
Maintenance, service, and QM order
Production order, product cost controller, and cost object hierarchy
WBS elements
Project profile and project definition
WBS element
Networks
Network type
Network header
Network activity
During posting, the system derives the functional area from the master data of the assigned objects. For more information, see  Derivation of the Functional Area.
Prerequisites
In order to be able to enter the functional area in the master data of the specified objects, the Functional area field in master data has to be ready for input. For this to be the case, cost of sales accounting for your company codes must either be active for preparation or active.
You make the settings in Customizing under Financial Accounting ® Financial Accounting Global Settings ® Company Code ® Cost of Sales Accounting ® Activate Cost of Sales Accounting for Preparation or Activate Cost of Sales Accounting.
The master data of some objects is not company code dependent, rather it is assigned to higher-level organizational units. In such cases, the functional area field is ready for input in all company codes of a client, provided that cost of sales accounting is active for preparation or active for at least one company code of the client.
In the following cases, the master data of an object is not company code-dependent:
Object

Chart of accounts
Cost element
Chart of accounts
Cost center category
Client
Order type
Client
Features
You have the following options for entry of functional area in the master data of the specified objects:
Entry of functional area
You can enter the functional area provided that no postings exist for this object.
Change functional area
You can change a functional area that has already been entered as long as no postings exist.
Where postings already exist, it is no longer possible to change the functional area.
Postings that have already been made cannot be changed automatically. The functional area is derived only in the case of new postings.
Where it is absolutely necessary to change the functional area for existing postings, you can find instructions on how to perform the change in Note 115840.

    Dear Experts,
    We recently implemented SAP in our company.
    One problem we have is that our Financial statements are just on GL, our Management wants to see the Financial statement break up by departments (Cost centers) & Projects.
    I beleive that this is possible through Functional areas concept, but I don't know completely on how to configure & maintain Functional areas in order to get the Financial statements with Functional area.
    Please guide me a complete configuration step.

    What is the benefit of maintaining Functional area in the Cost center master data then.
    I have seen some slides of Financial statements with Functional are break up by Cost center categories.
    Please give more idea on this.

    I created a financial statement  version with functional area and run it(S_PL0_86000032 ) , most items are correct, however, the item which assigned function area always 0, this means that system can not get any data via function area. would anyone help me?

    If you want to define a financial statement version with functional areas, these functions are limited. You cannot use the following functions:
            Balance-Dependent Display
    You cannot display functional areas dependent on the balance, that is, assign them to a different item dependent on the balance.
    ·        Debit/Credit Shift
    You cannot define items to which you have assigned functional areas as debit/credit shift items.
    ·        Check for Completeness
    You cannot use the check for completeness for financial statement versions with functional areas.
    You also have to carry out the following additional activities:
           1.      When you enter the general data, set the Functional area permitted indicator.
    You then have the option of assigning either accounts or functional areas to an item in your financial statement version.
           2.      Assign the required functional areas or functional area intervals to your P&L items

  • Financial statement by business area

    hi,
    Has anyone encountered implementation of running balance sheet by business area and it only balances at company level but not at business area level?  What are the likely causes and rectifications?
    I noticed we cannot post a reclassifcation entry where we debit from BA1 and credit to BA2 as the balance sheet adjustment posting will balance it.

    Hi,
    The objective of business area is to get the financial statements for internal reporting purpose. So at the business area wise it has to balance the line items, other wise it cant be called as balance sheet.
    The objective of company code is repoting to the external authorities i.e in India as per the comapanies act 1956 all the registered companies must submit the financial statements. The company code level financial statement includes the transactions posted at the business area level also.
    For the internal reporting you can use either business area or profit center.

  • Insert statements using function are slow in 10.2.0.3

    I am migrating our data warehouse server to newer more powerful hardware, both server and disk are far superior. As part of the migration the oracle rdbms version is also changing from 10.1.0.3 to 10.2.0.3 on RHEL4.
    We have some jobs that run and populate some fact tables and when the insert runs on the new server it is at least 6 times slower that on the older hardware. The job that does the inserts uses some funtions to populate some fileds and seems to be the culprit quite possibly?
    I can insert many rows quickly in the same table space with all of the same storage parameters and this goes really fast but when we call the functions it really slows down to a crawl?
    Is is possible this could be a bug in the 10.2.0.3 rdbms version?

  • Financial Statement translation

    Hi Guru,
    I have to translate the Financial Statement (transaction OB58).
    I have followed the sap note 1803913 "Changing language in financial statement structure", but when I run the transaction code SE63 for the steps "Translation-->Abap Object-->Other long text-->FI Balance Sheet/P&L Statement", the system returned to me this message "Object not found".
    The Object exists in the system.
    Do you have any suggestion?

    Once you double-click on FIBS, system will return you to a selection screen.  On the Object Name field, when you do a drop down (F4), system is probably saying that no objects are found.  One reason that I can think of is that system is looking for OB58 FSVs in the Source language that is defaulted in the bottom of that selection screen.  Let's say your FSV is originally created in source language ES.  In that case, first please change the source language to ES (the field is greyed-out, but you can still select the source language from the drop down (F4)), and then try the drop down on the Object Name field.  Once you select the Object Name (which will be a node within your FSV), choose the target language before you click on Edit, and then maintain the translation.  Repeat for every node your in FSV.
    Transporting this translation is a manual push (just an additional info. that I thought may be helpful).

    FSI4 for creating forms and FSI1 for creating assocaited reports.
    Standard report 0SAPPRALO-01 Annual Profit and Loss Statement by functional area, can be checked, under FSI3 Type 005.

  • Financial Statement Version

    Guru's
    Everytime when we want to change the Financial Statement Version we are getting an erro " client 900 has status 'not modifiable'.
    At the same time we are not interested in client(900) to be opened for one such transaction.
    Is there any other way to solve this issue.

             It is standard to Transport FSV, the only complication in transporting is if it has been translated into additional Languages.

    we use F.01 (RFBILA00) to show the Financial statement.
    Question: Is there any Program / tcode etc. to show only the
    financial statement version without any data, only the structure?

    Press F1 button on the financial statement structure field. On the popup, press button Customizing. This will guide you to the structure.

    In OB58, we can define financial statement structure for balance sheet and Profit loss report. Is there any way to import FSV from external file in to SAP ? as well as export from SAP to  external file ?

  • PLANT WISE FINANCIAL STATEMENT REQUIRED

    Can any one tell me whether any standard report is available in SAP to get the plant wise Financial Statement ( No Business area wise ) as it is having in FBL3N ( thro dyanamic selection ) for GL balances.

    As standard you cant get this.
    A Plant would need to be linked to a Profit Center.
    Do you use ERP 6.0
    Perhaps you could add it as a field for document splitting. However you would then have to maintain you business splitting rules as well.
    What is a plant used where you are.

  • Datasource for financial reporting structure

    Hello,
    I am extracting data from several finance datasources (FINGLAU*) to an external BW system. For several reporting requirements I need an extract of the so-called Financial Reporting Structures, which are effectively hierarchies of GL-accounts.
    I have found a way to manually save these structures to an Excel-file through the Business Configuration work center. However I would like to automate this process by extracting these from a data source but I as of yet I have not been able to find one.
    Does anyone know of a datasource to extract these structures?

    I have created Financial Statement version with functional areau2019s and i have assigned all function areas in FSV. But when I run F.01, I am unable to get functional area wise report.

        I am also confuse, as my requirement I need to prepare financial statement version as below example.
                            GL:Salary - 660000
                            Functional Area:200-Production/100-Marketing
                            All the posting will happen to GL 660000 with FA 100 & 200
    I need to prepare FI statement as follows
    Salary:
          - Production Salary
          - Marketing Salary
        OR
    Production Expense:
            -Salary
    Marketing Expense:
            -Salary
    So I created FI statement version using OB58 with functional area permitted but I cannot link functional area & GL to cater my requirement.I don't understand if we cannot cater this type of requirement why they introduce thin functional area feature? Appreciate some one can give me a better explanation.

    Definitely it will possible.
    Activate cost of sales accounting to your company code(check in OBY6).
    Now functional area field is visible in GL master. Otherwise you can assign functional areas to Cost cnters and Internal orders.
    There are so many drill down reports available to see the figures functional area wise.

  • Functional Areas in Financial Statement Version in 4.70

    I have configured functional areas, assigned them to GL accounts and cost centers. I created a new financial statement version that allows Functional Areas and assigned functional areas to the specific areas of the report (Sales, cost of sales, g&a, etc.) When I run this financial statement version, nothing shows up under functional areas even though there are postings to accounts with functional areas. All accounts show up under not assigned.
    I have found a note that references this for 5.0 and 6.0. Is there something out there for 4.7 or am I missing something in my configuration?

    i have a requirement, where out of 6 sub items i have to do summation of only 4 sub items and later we may require to do summation of all the 6 sun items.., so i dont want to create seperate two items..,
    so, can we achieve the this?
