Financial Websites

Hi. I have a problem that BT seem unable to fix. I can't connect to "Verified by Visa" or my Internet Banking website sometimes without rebooting the router. Rang BT would guided me through disabling the firewall. Slightly better but still a problem. Any thoughts?

Just a thought... Have you tried another browser?
I changed from IE9 to Chrome as I found IE9 too intrusive.. possibly oversecure if you can have such a thing!!!
Clutching at straws really but something to try.

  • How do I get 128-bit encryption in Firefox 4.0 for a financial website?

I need 128-bit encryption capability on my web browser in order to use a specific financial website for bill paying, The site's encryption test shows that Firefox 4.0 (newly installed) does not provide that level of security. Help?

I think the www.opm.gov site may be looking for the '''U''' that was in the Firefox 3.6 and earlier useragents as it was one of the things removed in Firefox 4.0 and newer useagents. The site says it recognizes the browser but does not detect that your web browser supports 128-bit high encryption which contradicts.
The "U" stands for "USA" (for the version with 128-bit encryption) (since 1996).

  • Financial website doesn't recognize my computer and asks security questions each time I log in

When I sign into a financial website it doesn't remember my mac and requires me to answer security questions each time.  I called the website and they said the problem is with my mac's settings.  Anyone else have this problem?

They do it for YOUR protectoin and security and to avoid someone else pretending to be you.
They may or may not use cookies and other things.
it is possible it was designed to work with a differenent browser or even platform though I would say that has gotten rarer.
    Assuming you use Apple Safari
    Safari
    http://www.apple.com/support/safari
you are asking us to make assumptions and jump to conclusions also.
    Enable the Developer menu in Safari and User Agent setting to 'tell' a site you are using something else;
    try using Firefox 3.6.17 also.

  • Version 4.0.1 won't remember login information for my financial websites?

Each new day I have to reenter my login information for my financial websites, e.g. Chase, Citibank, etc. After I power down and turn the computer back on the information is lost. Does not happen with non-financial websites. I think, somehow, the cookies are being erased after powering down.

What was the exact wording of the error message?  If it said network timeout, try disabling the antivirus and firewall on the computer during the download and update.  Kaspersky is especially bad.

  • Financial Websites Access

I am getting so frustrated with my Blackberry Curve R8520. I have a Vodafone contract and the phone was supplied by Phones4U. I deal on the stock market and I need to be able to load Interactive Investor. The site is www.iii.co.uk No-one at Vodafone of Phones4U has any idea why this site won’t load. I keep getting error message: HTTP Error 403: Forbidden. We have tried everything including re-installing the Blackberry software, deleting the Cache, but no luck yet. Can you help me please. Otherwise I’m stuck with a 2 year contract on a phone that can’t do what I want it to do. I tried it on an i phone and no problem at all. I need to be able to access the financial web sites.
    Thank you
    Peter

That is a question for those websites to answer. Firefox 4.0 was released almost 4 months ago, IMO more than enough time for those 2 websites to verify that Firefox 4 & 5 are compliant with W3C standards.
To be able to access that FAFSA website, my advice is to install the Portable Firefox 3.6.19 version to your hard drive. It won't affect your other Firefox installation. <br />

  • New problem printing from financial websites - print button sends file to a "cgi" extension and adobe cannot open and print.

I used to be able to print my bank statements directly from the website to my printer. Now the print program sends the file to a file with a "cgi" extension and saves it on my desktop but as an Adobe file. When i open it to print, Adobe says it is not supported or corrupt. running windows 7 on PC.

    mmsteer,
I think I may be able to help you with this problem, which I was having with CS4 when I first upgraded to Lion, and others were having with CS3. This fix is courtesy of Aisolve on these discussion boards:
Remove the Adobe PDF PPDs from the following folders:
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
Be sure to go to your system Library, not your user Library.
Also, regarding my current problem, I spoke with an Apple tech person and found that the 10.7.2 upgrade apparently is the culprit, and is incompatible with wireless printing to my Lanier printer. I CAN print connected through USB. That's a work-around for now, but I'll need to contact Lanier about upgrading their driver for OS X 10.7.2.
Aisolve was helping me with this issue, too, and assures me that if I'm able to generate a postscript file (which I was), and able to generate a PDF by distlling it through Adobe Distiller (which I am), then I can safely assume that the problem lies with the hardware, in this case the printer driver. This lines up with what Apple told me.

  • Invisible Text in Flash Player on Financial Website

Just spent an hour on the phone with one of my financial sites on which I can no longer see some important text. They tried everything, none of which worked, and concluded it must be incompatibility of the adobe flash and Snow Leopard. It started right after installation of Snow Leopard. I've since learned that others have this problem too. Any suggestions on how to get this fixed? What can I do?

It's great that you've isolated the problem to the User account.
You can usually just drag a plist or sub-folder of preferences to your desktop and an application will replace the missing preference file automatically as needed. You can delete the files when the problem is fixed.
In your User folder which is often represented in a path as a ~ character there are several Flash related locations.
    ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash Player
You can dump the cache to see if it's causing a problem.
    ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player
Here, there are several folders like #Security, #Shared Objects, etc. You can move these folders to the desktop and see if the problem goes away.
    ~/Library/Preferences/Flash 10 MRU
Move the file to the desktop.
If you move the folders to your desktop, you could put them back if desired.
If you remove all of these references from your machine and have to reinstall flash, that's a good thing, but not a usual occurrence for programs like this.
You might have other preference files that I don't have on my system, and I might have older files laying around in mine because they haven't been noticed as a problem. Typically these files are so small, that they don't matter to anyone.
Hope this helps. Preference files can be challenging to isolate.

  • Blocked from financial websites

Today is my regular day to pay all of my bills, do online banking of various sorts, and make adjustments to my stocks. This is the first time I've used Leopard and Safari 3.0.4 to do this. Before this "upgrade" I NEVER had problems. This morning, at least 4 websites blocked me from doing my business, because of several reasons including, "not secure enough".
I don't mean to sound like a troll, and if you look at my profile, I am not. But does Apple ever test these products?
I don't like using other browsers because I cannot sync my passwords and bookmarks between my four different Macs. But I gave up this morning, and just used Firefox, looking up each password I needed.
If someone has an idea (and I looked a few of them like clearing my cache, cookies, and repairing the Keychain, but nothing worked), please post. I'm just so frustrated with Safari.

    Hi,
From the 'not secure enough' message, I have a feeling it's the websites in question rather than Safari that are broken. It sounds like the websites are checking the user agent sent in by the browser to determine what capabilities it has. Since the newer Safari has a new agent string, the websites probably aren't recognising it.
One way to test this is to enable the Debug menu in Safari and change the user agent there to something else, like Internet Explorer. The only difference now is that when Safari sends in the exact same request to the website, the website thinks it originated from Internet Explorer. To enable the Debug menu, type this into a Terminal window:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
If that does make a difference, notify the banks in question that their code needs updating. If not, please post some example sites where you experience the problem.

  • Firefox will not open PDF files from my financial website, but IE will.

When I try to open reports in Fidelity, UBS, etc, the file downloads, but removes the extension so it won't open and I get the message "Unknown file type". I tried the same procedure in IE, and the files open without problem. I do not want to use IE. How do I get the files to open. This is a recent (~5 days) problem.
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • I cannot download files from some websites

Since upgrading to ver 5.0, I cannot download statements from many of my financial websites. I am forced to start IE or Opera to download. Sometimes I am able to right click the link, and do 'Save Link as' and it will download, but not all. My Verizon bill is the latest failure today. When I clock on the link, I get a new tab opening that shows 'about:blank' in the web link, and says 'done' in the status bar. It does nothing after that.

When reading about the antivirus, I didn't equate that to the iPhone. Since antivirus software cannot run in the background on an iPhone, that isn't it and if pop-up blockers was enabled before I doubt that has anything to do with it either.
Is the statement in PDF format?

  • PDF iFilter 9 Not Working In Windows 7 x64

When I first started playing around with pdf ifilters over a month ago, I had Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard version 8.2.4 installed.  It is what shipped with my ScanSnap S510 that I bought about 1-1/2 years ago.  At some point, I read that for Win7 x64, I needed Adobe Reader 9, so I installed version 9.3.4.  Then I read, NO, don't install different versions at the same time.  AARRGGHH!
So, on Sept 10, I uninstalled both versions and only put back Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard version 8.2.4.  That is how I am set up now.  Here are the steps I took today.  Maybe someone can see either something I did wrong or find a step I missed.
    1. Installed the Adobe ifilter - PDFFilter64installer.msi
    2. Opened Indexing Options-->Advanced-->File Types and checked the pdf and pdfxml boxes (next to the pdf file type, it does say "PDF Filter")
    3. Under, "How should this file be indexed?" I made sure "Index Properties and File Contents" was selected.
    4. Opened System Properties-->Environment Variables and edited the Path Variable so it now contains - %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Windo wsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Bluetooth Software\;C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Bluetooth Software\syswow64;C:\Program Files\Intel\WiFi\bin\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\WirelessCommon\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Lenovo;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG;C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Access Connections\;C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PDF iFilter 9 for 64-bit platforms\bin
    5. Rebooted
    6. Opened Indexing Options-->Advanced and clicked on the "Rebuild" button at which point it started indexing.
It indexed 39,705 files in about 30 minutes - not a good sign, too quick.  Of those, 4,365 are pdf files.  My pdf files are a mix of documents downloaded from company websites (like monthly statements), scanned and OCR'ed with my ScanSnap S510; scanned with an HP AIO and OCR'ed with the HP software; scanned on an HP AIO using Acrobat 8 Standard and OCR'ed with Acrobat 8 Standard.
I tried a test.  There are at least 28 pdf files, downloaded from 2 different financial websites, that contain the very unique last name of my financial advisor.  These are NOT scanned and OCR'ed paper pages.  I opened several of the files individually with Acrobat 8 Standard and made sure I could search & find his name within the documents - his name was found every time.  I closed the documents and Acrobat 8 Standard.  I clicked on the Windows Start button and typed his last name.  It found 9 Word documents, a whole bunch of email messages - and 1 stinking pdf file!?!
    What is wrong?
Any & all ideas, thoughts & suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks!

So, I opened a Customer Support case with Adobe.
Today, I get their response.  The first line says it all.  The rest of it is just standard yada and was a waste of time if they had bothered to read what I sent them.  I've already done what they cut & pasted.
The status of my case has been changed to "Withdrawn."  So much for Adobe customer support.
    Here's their response:
"I regret to inform you that we have not tested it yet on windows 7
platform. However I would like to inform you that Please follow the
    steps mentioned below:
    1. Download and extract the contents of "PDFiFilter64installer.zip" to
your local drive.( FROM THE LINK MENTIONED BELOW):
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4025
    2. Double click "PDFFilter64installer.msi" to launch the installer.
    3. Follow the instructions in the installer wizard to complete the
    installation.
After installing the PDF iFilter, it is recommended that you set your
system PATH environment variable to the "bin" folder of the "Ifilter"
installation. For example, from the "Control
Panel\System\Advanced\Environment Variables" tab, append to PATH
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PDF iFilter 9 for 64-bit platforms\bin\"
    and then restart the computer."

  • Excel Charts import into iweb

Can you import charts created in excel or charts from financial websites (i.e. daily stock market charts) into iweb? If yes, can you please explain? Thanks

If you are, in fact, using iWeb '08, you may find that it doesn't work too good under Mountain Lion. Several users have reported problems with saving changes and there is no fix for this.
You need to upgrade to V 3.0.4 or run iWeb on an external drive under Snow Leopard.

  • Difference between Legal and Managerial consolidation?

    Hi,
Can you guys please share your knowledge for this question
Difference between Legal and Managerial consolidation?
    Thanks,
    Charly

This is quite a general question and should not be answered only in context of BPC.
Paraphrasing your question is not really a help.
In general a Legal Consolidation is one whose purpose is to meet statutory requirements [whereever/whatever they are].
For example generating data for Shareholders on an annual basis in Glossy Annual reports.
A managerial consolidation may be similiar in several ways, but focuses on internal factors and may have a different entity structure than that of the Legal structure. Management reports are typically used at the end of any given reporting cycle (actual/budget/forecast etc) and allow 'management' to guage the performance/review the data of their business.
I suggest looking this up on the various financial websites, where you will get better definitions.
Of course in BPC it is possible to do Legal consolidations without 'legal ownership cubes' and this is what many 4.2 customers have done.
In modern BPC i would check the scope of the consolidaton requirements before choosing any 'bpc consolidation methodology'
Raghu's links are also useful in context of BPC.

  • Keychain: What happened to "passwords not saved"?

I was about to answer this question by directing the user to Keychain Access, where he could find the relevant website and simply delete it.
For as long as I've known, if you tell a website to never save passwords for it, Safari would create a Keychain entry with the website URL along with the note "passwords not saved". From that moment on, Safari would not ask if you'd like to save the password. The Keychain entry was self-explanatory; if you asked Keychain to show the password the field would be blank.
So, I checked my Keychain for the several secure financial websites where I store various amounts of the enormous Galt wealth all over the globe. They're not in Keychain any more - they're gone completely!
I suspect this happened when I updated Safari from 4.0.4 to 4.0.5, since I got the familiar popup "Keychain has been updated" etc.
Something must tell Safari not to ask to store a password for a particular website, and without a Keychain entry, it can't be the Keychain, right? So what is it now? A cookie?

Thanks, BD, this makes sense to me, though I can't seem to find a Login keychain I think I understand what's going on now.
The difficulty seems to be function of how Safari interacts with secure websites, and that's changed with Safari's evolution. At one time Safari would give you the option of saving names and passwords no matter what. They were stored in Safari's Autofill preferences while the actual passwords were stored in the Keychain. Later, it appears that Safari began to honor a secure website's request to not even do that, so I'm never given the choice. Those Keychain entries disappeared.
Firefox behaves differently still. At least one secure website will not allow Safari to autofill, but the same one will autofill with Firefox. It requires a ridiculously secure, non-memorable password, such as U*ng%!+{&.4 - you know, the kind you have to write on a Post-It note stuck to your monitor since it expires every 36 hours. It's a government website and by definition, stupid. For that one I use Firefox.
I would surmise that if the internet standards allow for a choice, Apple is taking the more secure route.
So, some websites, even though their address starts with https:// allow Safari to store names and passwords. I surmise that some do not; for those Safari will not even give you the option. I was looking for those in my Keychain - now they're gone, and I guess that's the way it's going to be!
You deserve a by the way, but I had clicked "Helpful" before I unraveled this mystery. Sorry!

  • Adobe Reader Update Manager will not complete download on Mac

For the past couple of months, I have been trying to update  Adobe Reader for a Critical Security Alert.  I go through the steps but the installation never completes.  It just sits there with the bar at 95% complete for hours and hours.  The file name trying to download is DLMUninst_001_OSX.dmg
I cannot open PDF files because I am not up to date on the newest versions. I get a blank page when I try to open one from some financial websites and others.  My computer is an Apple MAC OSX v.10.5.8 PowerPC G5.  I would really appreciate it if someone could solve this problem.
