Find and delete songs unable to locate
I have a lot of songs in my iTunes that I don't have on my computer anymore. Some are marked with the exclamation point, but others aren't because I haven't tried playing them yet. What is the easiest way to find which songs can't be located and delete them? Thanks!
If it was that simple to do with the hundreds on songs like this littering my library, then I would have done it already instead of posting on here.
Do you have any helpful advice, like the name of program perhaps? I have not been able to find anything through web search. If I had, I wouldn't be turning to this forum to fix a problem I had already solved.

How do I find and delete unauthorized songs from my computer?
How do I find and delete unauthorized songs from my computer?
Terence,
Yes, the duplicates appear in the iPhoto window. I have folders with same name occuring two or even three times sometimes with exactly the same set of photos (ie photos with the same ID) and sometimes with a limited set of photos. Other folders appear only once.
I normally take my MacBook with me if I'm shooting a lot of photos, such as on holiday, and then want to transfer them to my iMac when i get home. Other times I transfer the camera's memory stick directly to my iMac.
I have great difficulty transferring the photos from my MacBook to my iMac. I don't want to store my photos on my iDisk due to the length of time it takes to upload them.
Thanks again.

Is there an easy way to find and delete duplicate songs on an IPhone 4?
A belated hello. On the topic of duplicate songs / tracks showing up in, say, your iPhone Music app but not in your iTunes Library, with these versions installed ....
iTunes 10.5
iPhone 4 running on iOS 5
.... I discovered this too. This is what I did:
1. purchased full album from the iTunes Store
(once download completed, album magically showed up in iPhone Music app, as expected, without having to sync)
2. I then went to my iTunes Music view and edited the album year (Multiple Item Information)
3. Synced
4. All album tracks showed up in duplicate in iPhone Music app (but not in iTunes view)
Solution:
1. in iTunes, I changed back the album year to the one iTunes Store originally downloaded
2. Re-synced
3. Now all album tracks show up but no longer in duplicate in iPhone Music app
Lesson learned: When purchasing music from iTunes Store, leave metadata untouched. -
I've copied my itunes library onto an external hard drive. Is there any way I can do this and delete songs from my PC without also deleting from the external drive? Already lost two songs!!! I just want a back up - using a work PC and don't want others accessing my songs. Hope someone can help. Thanks!
I see. To get a better idea of what is being stored where please download and run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with <Name>. It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

How to find and delete duplicate photos
I have combined photos from various sources, friends, family, etc. and have found that there are many photos that are the same. I have been trying to find a way to find and delete all the duplicates but am unable to do so.
Anyone have any ideas please?
Many thanks
RogerThere is no automated may to find and delete duplicates, but importing using iPhoto will report duplicates if you attempt to import the same photo twice. I'm not sure if you have photos that are exact duplicates or photos taken on the same occasion but, in any case, it may be a matter of viewing the photos in date order and deleting duplicates as you scroll through. These will stay in the iPhoto trash until emptied.
It may be that this would help, though I haven't used it: http://www.ironicsoftware.com/deep/ (With acknowledgements to Terence Devlin).

HELP!! How can I find and delete duplicate mp3 files.
I have a zillion copies of songs and I want to find and delete duplicate mp3 files. I have used MediaRage to find the duplicate files (16 thousand or so) but it can't delete them. It will take a million yrs to delete them manually. Does anyone know a way to do this quickly or a program that will do this for me. I have a 15 in Powerbook with OS 10.5.3
Thanks so much if you can help. This site: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/ has hundreds of scripts (small programs that do stuff) for iTunes.
Bound to be something there for you. -
I opened "Fedex Shipment"malware. How do I find and delete it?
I opened an email labeled "Fedex Shipment Department." I believe it to be a Trojan or some other type of problem. How can I find and delete this?
Thanks in advance for any help.It is impossible to tell where malware (if there is any) might be located. I would probably clear the browser cache and cookies (if I was concerned). If I was really concerned, I would restore my system from the latest backup.
Apple does have code to intercept malware, but I have no clue how it works.

I have an iPhone 5. It says I have 537 songs on it but every song shows the cloud icon. I have gone through every suggested step I've googled and deleted songs but settings still shows them. When it's plugged into my mac itunes shows it only has 42 songs.
Hi ellafromva,
From your description, it sounds like you may have iTunes Match activated; you may find the following article helpful:

Hi All,
Late last year I upgraded from tiger to leopard (very out of date I know) but ever since I have been getting warnings that my startup disk is full. I have deleted loads including pictures and itunes but still get the same mesage. I think when I upgraded the old version was stored somewhere and this might be causing the problem. Does anyone know where I would be able to find and delete - or alternatively have any other suggestions for what the problem may be?
Many thanksWOW
80GB is a very small drive.
Sorry Noondaywitch, but omni disk sweeper isn't going to install in the space remaining, without more problems.
My Suggestions
1. Get a large (400GB+) USB hard drive
2. Copy all the contents of your home directory to the USB drive.
3. Delete all your files from your home directory on your computer after making sure everything transferred ok.
4. Perform a clean (destructive) install of Mac OSX and then the applications you need.
5. Check how much space you have left.
6. If there is less than 50% of the HDD space left (35GB or so), then consider replacing the HDD with a new larger one. If it's a white intel mac book, then this is very easy, and instructions how to do it are included in your 'everything else' wallet with your OSX DVDs etc.
7. If you can't replace the HDD, then it's time to consider a new machine i'm afraid.
Hope this helps

I used time machine to restore on a formatted MAC. Now the HDD space has reduced by 100GB but I cannot see any of the files. How do I find and delete those 100GB data from the HDD?

I created a new user account just to see if it was my user Library or if there was something wrong with my system. And the new user account is doing most of the same things so I will need to do a full restore anyway.
Not necessarily. I'd suggest downloading and installing the "combo" update. That's a combination (thus the clever name) of all the updates to Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards. -
I used Duplicate Annihilator to isolate dups in iPhoto on my iMac. At the end of its search, it told me it had marked the word duplicate in the comments / description field. How do I find and delete the marked photos?
File -> New Smart Album
Description -> contains -> Duplicate
will find them.
Then the keystroke to delete depends on which version of iPhoto you have. All the keyboard shortcuts are under the Help menu. -
when I connect my iphone to my itunes it says loads of space is being taken up by documents , however i have no documents saved on my phone to my knowledge. how do I find and delete these hidden files ?
I restored the phone so had no apps on it at all and there was still this certain amount of space used up by documents ! I've already had it in to the apple store and they didn't seem to have a clue either ! Ugh ! Wouldn't mind so much if the phone was free with a contract but I actually spent 450 quid buying this phone and it's always full of "nothing" so virtually unusable
