Find Capitalized Word, Sort by date

I thought maybe I could find files in a particular directory containing the capitalized acronym FFP, then sort the results by date. Doesn't seem to be a recognizable way to do so in either finder or spotlight. Perhaps I have to get a "for dummies" book. By contrast, this search was a breeze in Windows XP. Am I missing something?

To answer my own question: The freeware called "Easyfind" does what I need. (You have to search for it on the DEVONtechnologies.com site) I find it quite lame that Tiger can't do something so simple. Its like building a car that can go 200 MPH but can't make left turns...

  • IPhoto import finder file structure sort by date taken

Hi! I'm switching from iPhoto11 to Aperture. I've imported my iPhoto Library via the Import menu asking Aperture to Copy the photos.
File structure in the finder in important for me for further usage so I checked the "Aperture Library" package content and discovered that my 10000 photos had been imported in one unique folder with today's date. Even worse each subfolder has a complex name...
Is there an option to specify "Import photos into folders devided by taken date" ?
    Thanks

Messy for you but not for the computer. Both iPhoto and Aperture maintain the files in an order that is appropriate for that application. It may not a format that is understandable to humans. I always use managed and allow Aperture to do what it wants in the way of file storage. If I need anything I ask Aperture to get it for me. It is a DAM, Digital Asset Management, system.
If you have valid reason to have to access the files without using Aperture then maybe referenced is the solution for you. Personally I figure that is what the computer is there to do so I leave it do its thing.

  • HowTo?  find most recent checkins, by userID, sorted by date??

I can't find any reporting capabilities within RON.
    Is there another tool?
Has anyone written these sql scripts and can share?
    Thanks, curt

    Thanks David,
I just gave repcmd a try. How can I print the doc for all cmds and
arguments? BTW, I didn't see any arguments for sorting by various
    criteria like last checkin date?
The help in RON didn't give doc on the repcmds?
From RON, I opened a private work area, launched repcmd, which gives
the DOS look that it's rooted in my PWA. I typed lsci and it hangs.
Opps, while I'm typing this it returned. About 3 minutes for only
    50 files??????
Problem: This has been a very foreign experience so far trying to
setup Jdev using OSCM: Everyone is working on the same project. We
check in files all day long. We need to precisely control what new
files we add to our desktop dev environment.
Under all other SCM's this is easy (even with clearclase). All other
tools make the easy, normal use case of picking and choosing what files
you download to your dev directory easy. Usually with a GUI tool that shows
you latest checkins that you pick from.
So: we need to be able to see a sorted list of latest checkins, sorted by date.
    How?
Then we need to be able to pick and choose which files and which versions are down loaded?
    How?
I'm leading the way on this, in advance of a team of newbies to OSCM and Jdev
so this will be a trying experience getting all the steps well doc'ed so it's
    clear and easy.
I sure could use some help on this. Thanks, well in advance. :)
    Take care, curt

  • The Firefox find function seems to have become CAPS or non-caps specific, so that typing a word in non-caps will not find matching words with one or more capital letter.

The find function seems to have changed in Firefox. Before, when doing a (CTRL + F) find, the search was not CAPS-specific or non-caps-specific. In other words, if I typed in "firefox" (no caps), it would find the words "firefox", Firefox", or "FIREFOX", regardless of capitalization. Now, however, the find function will only match the exact same capitalization. This totally undermines the usefulness of the function, and is a major hassle. Please fix it.

  • How do I sort by date added while maintaining track order?

    Hello,
I'm trying to do what I think is a simple function in ITunes. I'd like to sort by "date added" and have the tracks line up sequentially by track number. In other words, when in Itunes, I'd like to have (from top of the library to bottom) my most recent album with tracks 1-10, listed, and then the next recent album and so forth. Almost like a most recent album. You can of course sort by date added, and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, but then when Ituns plays, you start on the most recent album, it runs through that album, and then is done.
    Any thoughts?

If you ever find the answer, I'd love to know as well. How odd is it that you can do this. I tried several searches for this in software hacks, and applications that let you alter icon views and the like. Can't believe the limited interest in correcting it either.
I was looking for a way to display screen shots of various jpeg elements with files names that double as instructions in a tutorial. Icon view allowed me to see pictures in a large enough size to use as instructions with the corresponding file names. All I would have had to do was screen shots assembled into a PDF and I would have been done. Having to retype every instruction along with copy, and pasting into a new document and so forth is more than double the work for any set of pictorial instructions.
Maybe Garage Band or some other application is the workaround until then. I'll let you know if I ever find a better workaround, or the solution.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of numbers on my mac. Everytime I save and then try to reopen that document, I receive a message telling me that I need a new version of numbers. Also, when I try to sort the date column, it sorts out of order. The last version sorted fine.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you install the new iWork version, the old iWork version is kept, so it looks like you are opening your old version.
To fix this, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly. Open all documents from this version. I don't recommend you to delete the old Numbers version in case you need it.
Respecting to the second question, you will get better answers in the Numbers for OS X forum

  • Finder hangs when sorting in list view on external USB3 portable Seagate

This seems to be a specific Mavericks Finder issue as I have a Mountain Lion backup that does not have this problem. Finder hangs on the Seagate when selecting the Music folder that holds all of my music files (over 300 GB) organized by iTunes in artist and album folders.
I keep two backups, one on an external 1 TB portable USB 3 Seagate drive (5400rpm) and one on an external 2 TB portable USB 3 Toshiba (5400rpm) drive. Sorting thru the iTunes Media/Music folder in any way on my internal HD and on the Toshiba is almost instant and navigation/scrolling is fast. On the Seagate, using Column and grid view works well, even setting the column view to sort (I use Modification Date) causes no hangs and I can easily scroll and select any artist, album or song. But as soon as I select List View for the Music Folder, it starts counting the files and hangs with a spinning beach ball FOREVER. I have to relaunch the Finder and instantly click off the window as it will otherwise hang immediately.
This only happens on the external Seagate, I can easily navigate and scroll the Music folders - which are identical - on my main and external Toshiba drive.
Here's what I did to troubleshoot this issue:
Deleted Finder pref. files (com.apple.finder.plist including lock file inside my Library folder, there were 4 who had some random numbers at the end.
Set all and specific folder views and list views to not sort
Ran Disk Utility from both internal and Rescue partition (no errors found)
Ran Onyx scripts to clean up and do maintenance (no issues popped up)
Booted up in Safe Mode and deleted pref files (as suggested on another forum)
    Reset PRAM
Confirmed this issue with other Mavericks boot drives and one Mountain Lion full backup.
I use Soundflower (mentioned in another post), Caffeine, and MenuMeters
Any ideas? Any other preference files to delete?

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly!
FYI, it seems specifically to happen when I expand a lot of folders in List View, and especially when I have multiple finder tabs/windows open—but that could just be subjective impression. There are no crash reports or anything in Console—I don't know of any other way to monitor the process.
I deleted the finder plist. I also uninstalled and reinstalled XtraFinder—which I’m quite sure wasn’t the problem, since it happened regardless of whether it was installed. In fact, if anything, it seems to crash less when Xtrafinder is active. I did have an additional (second) finder plist file which I deleted—I believe it was left over from TotalFinder—but that didn’t seem to fix it, although it also seems to be happening less frequently.
It’s definitely some sort of bug, and really only bothers me when trying to sort by Date—which can be done other ways, of course.
Will definitely keep you up to date if it changes, and thanks kindly again for your response.

  • Why is the file browser unable to sort by date added (Safari, Mail, etc)?

When I use the file browser (e.g. when I browse for a file to attach to an email or browse for a file to upload through a form) and try to sort by date added, it doesn't work.
I can see the column for "date added" and it displays the correct date. I can sort by other properties and it works. But when I sort by "date added" it lists files that were added a while ago under "today" and the files recently added are under "no date" (even though they all have a correct date). The list doesn't seem to change day-to-day (e.g. files under "today" remain the same).
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Am I the only one with this issue?

Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

  • Itunes (11.2.1)- ALBUM SORT BY DATE ADDED ?

    Hello,
So before updating to Itunes version 11.2.1 my albums in itunes were visible and were sorted by ''date added''(even though I never chose this option). So the case would be that everytime I added a new song it would appear at the very end of my itunes library under ''Albums''. After updating it however, I have encountered a problem; Now my albums section is sorted in another way (Alphabetical order), So any newly added music will appear somewhere deep within all my other songs and not at the end of my library of albums.
Please help me resolve this problem since I have invested into music for many years, and can't find my music now.

I use an older iTunes so I don't know exactly how they have hte new one set up.  Presumably there is still a list view mode.  Use view options to display the date added column then sort by that.

  • ALL PHOTOS album not sorting by date???

For some reason the ALL PHOTOS album is not sorting itself by date and time of when the photo was taken. They appear very random!
I don't know why this is happening. The VIDEOS album is sorting properly by date and time of when it was taken. The BURSTS album is sorting fine too.
It would be nice if there was an option to sort the ALL PHOTOS album by date. I know you can select the PHOTOS tab at the top and see photos sorted by date and time and place but I primarily use the ALL PHOTOS album and it just looks messy when it's not sorted properly. This was my go to in iPhoto and it was always sorted and images were easy to find.
Anyone know of any work arounds?
    Thanks in advance
    j

The FAVOURITES and PANOS albums also sort by date and time too. So all the albums sort by time and day except the ALL PHOTOS album! Seems very strange! What's even odder is that the date range listed at the top of the ALL PHOTOS album would suggest that they are sorted by date!
Apple I hope you SORT this out soon

  • How do I sort the data in the spreadsheet?

This is a fairly basic question and something I do all the time.  I need to sort the data on a particular column or set of columns and am frustrated that it is this difficult to find.  In trying to figure this out I know also have a chart on my spreadsheet that I can't seem to delete.

If you don't see a gray bar above the table, then tap a cell to show the gray bar.
Select a column by tapping the gray bar directly above the column. After the column is selected, tap the exact same spot again to show a menu.
In the menu, tap on Sort... etc...
Sort will sort the selected column, but will also update the entire table accordingly. If you don't want the rest of the table to update, then you have to copy that column (with the columns that you do want to update) and paste them onto the canvas so they appear in their own table. Sort the column then and paste it back into the original table.
Delete the chart from a menu that appears similarly as Sort. Tap on the chart one time to select it. Tap it again to show the menu with Delete. If you are doing this and choosing Delete, but the chart is not disappearing, then there might be a problem with the file.

  • How to "list folder" sorted by date

I can get the list of items in a folder but it always is organized alphabetically by name even if the folder is in list form and sorted by date. Is there any easy way to get the list of items sorted by date (or some other property)?
Of course, I can go back and write a sorting algorithm based on these other properties, but I don't want to have to write more...
    Thanks
    Kraig

Yes, the looping would be necessary in this case. As an alternative you could use a shell command:
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "Finder"
set x to POSIX path of (desktop as alias) -- in my case "/Users/michaelhenley/Desktop/"
set y to paragraphs of (do shell script "ls -t " & quoted form of x) -- "-t" sorts by modification date. type "man ls" in Terminal.app for more info
    end tell</pre>

  • IPhone pictures not sorted by date in Albums

I installed the new OS update in my MackBook Air and now I am using the new Photos app. I enabled the iCloud Photo Library function. So far so good, after a while now all of my Albums show on my iPhone, but the pics are all over the place, they are not sorted by date (oldest one first, newest picture last). When I go into any of the albums all of my pictures are disorganized; however, when I go into the same album on the Photos app in my Mac; there are just fine, sorted by date.
I wonder if there is a fix for this problem.

I have a similar problem. All of the photos in my All Photos album are out of sync the same way on both my Mac and iPhone. The Photos tab that shows photos by moments appears correct. When I go to iCloud.com and look at the All Photos album all of my pictures are shown in the correct order.
I looks like part of the resorting my be a bug related to translating images that have now been tagged with the key word 'Photo Stream', but I'm just speculating.

  • Finder dosn't sort by time correctly

I decided after a long time to upgrade to mavericks from snow leopard. Apart from some issues it works pretty well. However one issue is really annoying. When I choose to sort by "date" it only groups the files in "today" "yestarday" and so on. Finder does not take the individual time into consideration. So for example, a file from 18:33 can be shown as before a file from 13:37. Why can't finder sort the files completly?!
    Sincerely Henrik

    Hi HenrikNord,
You may be able to arrange the files more to your liking by adjusting the settings in Item Arrangement button (Mavericks has both a Sort and Arrange option). You may find the following articles helpful:
